My family and I had dinner with a friend here. The Calamari and Satay were cooked perfectly. I really liked how the Satay was plated. The Pad Thai was amazing. The tofu was firm on the outside and soft on the inside, and the chicken had a great texture too. I asked for an extra side of lime and peanut sauce. The recommended spice level to start with on a scale of 1-3 is 1. You can always add some heat with the side container of spice. My husband said that his Yellow curry w/chicken was one of the best that he has had, and we have consumed a lot of Thai food over the years. The four of us had an amazing dinner along with great customer service, and the owner is a SUPER KIND lady whom we will be visiting again for another outstanding dinner. read more

Try the spicy garlic chicken with broccoli! It's a super flavorful dish. Love the soups as well. Don't order medium spicy though unless you want your mouth to literally set fire. They know what they're doing in that kitchen with the heat. BYOB is a plus. Great date night spot and it is always very quiet and peaceful in there. read more

So freaking delicious I say is this little hide and seek thai restaurant in Irving. I ordered take out chicken pan curry and their winter rolls...MMM!! The flavorful curry so so good I didn't leave any for later. Perfect balance of spicy with sweet. The winter rolls were paired with this peanut sauce and normally I don't enjoy the sauce, but this was infused with pineapple! It was sooooo good I should have asked for two side orders of it. :) The restaurant looks very clean and trendy (think Asian Mint in Dallas) and the staff super helpful. After reading several reviews, I decided to try this place since it is in my new hood. I've been searching for good Thai in DFW and I am still searching for the perfect fit for me after all of these years. Thai is my favorite food and I take it very seriously! Note that this place closes at 3 and opens back up later for dinner. I ordered the Tom Yum soup, level 3 spicy (their levels are 1-3). Tom Yum is my fave soup ever. Their's was just ok. They did a great job on the level of spiciness, but the other flavors felt like something was missing. I ordered the drunken noodles as my entrée. (Pad kee mow). The fried egg that came in this dish felt more like a poached egg and it really turned me off. The egg was almost the same texture as the moist noodles. The flavor of the noodles was good and the spiciness was perfect, but my experience was ruined with the wet, poached like egg that is advertised as fried egg on the menu. I plan to give them one more chance because I did show up minutes before they shut down at 3...because I wasn't aware of the hours. Maybe next time they won't rush the meal prep. read more

Tonight I tried their pad Thai with chicken (spice level medium). I was up charged $2 for asking for extra scallions and bean sprouts. As an Asian I will say the spice level is definitely up there so if you're sensitive don't go past mild or just omit spice in total. The flavor is good and I'll probably order takeout again. However, for $16 I feel the portion size was a bit small and I will not be paying the upcharge for vegetables again. read more

This place really surprised me. The restaurant is in a shopping center with a lot of Indian food and Indian shops. I thought it would be an Indian fusion restaurant but it ended up being very delicious and authentic Thai. The server ( I didn't get her name) was lovely. She was polite and courteous even though I came in to eat 30 min before their siesta time (3-5pm). They took their time, I didn't feel rushed, the food came out delectable (just like my friend who is thai's cooking) and the atmosphere was relaxing. The decor is very simple. The establishment was clean and the staff was friendly. The menus could use updating (the actual menus, not the food on the menu) since they're torn and tattered around the edges. Makes me think lots of hands have touched it and being a germ-o-phobic person, this grossed me out before I even ordered my food. I went to ZENse with a couple of my friends to try it out. I had heard some good things about this place and wanted to try it out myself. After reading a couple of the reviews we ordered a bowl of tom yum soup and fried sweet potatoes 'n tofu with sweet chili sauce to start off. The tom yum soup is amazing. Maybe a little on the salty side, but it's still one of the best I've had. The tofu and sweet potatoes were pretty good as well. The tofu was cooked perfectly and the dipping sauce went well with the food. I would recommend getting both. For our entrees we ordered the crabby fried rice, pad see iew with tofu and yellow curry with chicken. The curry was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. I will probably try out the other curries next time. One thing about the curry dish is that it comes with a small amount of rice. You'll most likely have curry left over unless you want to drench your rice with it. The pad see iew was good as well, but it was a little on the greasy side. It would have been better if they didn't use as much oil. Taste-wise it was pretty steller. My favorite had to be the crabby fried rice. They put in large chunks of crab meat intead of the shreaded stuff you would expect. It would be even better if there were more chunks of it in the dish, but at $11 I couldn't complain. Everyone had a good time and agreed that the food was pretty good. I would honestly give this place a 3.5, but I couldn't justify downgrading them to a 3. What a gem. ZENse is located in a strip mall at the bottom of a hill in Valley Ranch. I've worked in the area for the last 5 years, but never gave this place much attention. I first heard good things about ZENse when reading an article about Top Chef contestant Tiffany Derry's favorite places to eat in DFW and realized it was close to my office. Apparently she used to work here when getting her start as a chef. Anyways, on to the good stuff. A foodie colleague and I decided to finally go check it out this afternoon for lunch. He had the pad thai, and I the pad kee mow (aka drunken noodles). Both were lightly sauced for Thai dishes, which was awesome, and both were fantastic. The pad thai was more of a natural color, not the orange-ish mess you get at your run of the mill Thai restaurant. The pad kee mow you can see below. I'm going to go out on a limb here and give ZENse Thai a fiver. Sure the place is small, the staff is limited (which is okay since it's not usually very busy ... in fact, the last time we went the owners quickly turned off the talk radio and ran back into the kitchen to look busy) and the location isn't the best (right next to a gas station), but you shouldn't spend too much time on that. Focus on the food man! After we got back from our trip to China / Thailand we were looking for a very authentic Thai food place, which actually proved to be pretty difficult. Most Americans are wussies when it comes to spice so a lot of Thai restaurants dull down the taste until there's virtually no flavor at all or put some Asian fusion twist on it. Dumb. Fortunately ZENse was just the thing we were looking for ... hotter than Michael Jackson at a boy scout meeting. I knew it was going to be good as soon as our waiter came to the table. He barely spoke any english and his only question when we ordered our food was "Little spicy or spicy?" We have been back several times and have ordered about a third of the items on their menu. Everything there is fantastic, fresh, and deliciously spicy. I particularly like the fresh basil that can be found in many of their dishes. The presentation and portion size is perfect too, albeit a little on the pricey side for what you get. We have actually introduced several of our friends to this place, including Daniel W. and one of my buddies who spent 2 years in Thailand. This is in my top 5 favorite places to eat in DFW. You can get a $100 bottle of wine and a steak anywhere....wth can you get fresh pressed coconut milk in curry topped with potatoes and a side of black and white jasmine rice accompanied by ginger tea while listening to jazz...that is right it is a run on thought and sentence bc it is a run on experience...always. The laab gai is my least favorite thing here...that is one of my favorite dishes at most thai places. This is legit. Minimalistic decor...which I enjoy. The fruu fruu does not do it for me. Focus on my consumption. Proper portions and quality. Papaya Salad is made to order like everything else. Do not expect fast anything....you are an idiot if you complain about time. Don't let the plain, sparse interior fool ya when you first walk in. Stick around and enjoy the food...it's pretty spectacular. The menu is full of exactly what you're looking for in this type of place......sprinkled with creative additions and great specials. I got their lunch special that day....which was one of the curry's, along with rice, a spring roll, a little salad....all for I think $8. How do you say no that THAT? huh? I ask you. TELL ME. I'm a wuss...there I said it...so I ordered my red curry extra MILD, hehehe. And you know what...even though it still had spice to it..it was perfect. Now, other people at the table were sweating and blowing their noses...so I know that these people can deliver the heat....but...with my delicate Tennessee tongue, their mild was perfection. Flavor? The food at ZENse isn't bad, but for me it wasn't memorable, either. The first time I called them, I was looking for a place that delivers. They said they only deliver within 5 miles of the restaurant, but I really wanted some curry, so I ordered takeout, and drove myself over there. According to my GPS and my car's odometer, I was only 3.9 miles from them. Hm. Fast forward about 5 weeks, again I am really wanting some panang curry, so I figure, hey I'll call them and let them know that I'm only 3.9 miles after all. I call to make my order and they now tell me they only deliver within a 2-mile radius. Phooey! The one time I did have some green curry (that I drove and picked up myself from ZENse), it was pretty good, but the customer service definitely needs some work. I would also recommend a notation somewhere on their website that they deliver, but only 2 miles from the restaurant. read more

Bland. I've never sent Thai food back. But there's a first time for everything. I had the Pad Thai. If you're coming for Pad Thai, one word: DON'T. I was told the reason I wasn't satisfied with the dish was because I was an American accustomed to food customized to the country's palate. Bullshit. First, don't insult your customers. If they aren't happy with something, suck it up. Second, I love Thai food. It's the type of food I most frequently eat when I go out, and I stay away from chains like Pei Wei that abuse salt and sugar like it's going out of style. I also cook my own Thai food. The Pad Thai I had was spicy. That's the only redeeming quality. It wasn't sweet. It wasn't tangy. It wasn't salty (in a good way). It was bland. It was not pad Thai. There was no cilantro in it. No lime. Hardly any peanut. Just overcooked noodles, a bit of sauce, a bit of peanut, and spice. The portion was ridiculously small compared to other Thai restaurants in the area. Disappointing. I could make better Pad Thai in my sleep. I next had the pad kee mow after sending back my first Thai dish ever. One thing I noticed was that the vegetables were barely cooked. They had no flavor to them. They were cooler than the rest of the food. It was half-assed, in my opinion. Again, the noodles were overcooked, but in this dish, that's a bit more common of a texture. With the Pad Thai, it was unexpected and sloppy. I also had the Tom Kha soup. Bits of lemongrass and galangal that are normally strained remained in the soup, making for a few very harsh bites. The soup was overly full of lemon flavor, and I normally am the guy asking for extra lemon with my entreés. Lastly, the "cup" of soup was grossly overpriced. The decor of this place is also odd. The uneven lights on one wall with a long counter are interesting. The oddly low tables were weird. I found myself leaning over to feel comfortable in the hard booths, and I'm only 5' 8". The atmosphere of the place is strange, too. They go from Asian-sounding music to overwhelming techno and other strange/ambient beats. A lot of people seem to like this place, but I'm not sure why. Yelp Thai restaurants in the area and you'll find 10 other options that'll satisfy you much more, and generally with more food like a free spring roll + salad (don't let the menu mislead you; it's ONLY with the chef's selection, which isn't even told to you when you go). read more

Service is SLOW! I called in my order and the man told me about 20 minutes, and he also gave some lame excuse that he did not know the total for my order. I ordered spring rolls and spicy basil fried rice. I arrived 30 minutes later and he tells me that it's going to be a few more minutes. I ended up waiting another 25 minutes and was late to my conference call!!! That's why I placed my order early at 11:30am. And my order was messed up. I got spicy chicken fried rice, NO basil. And it's not spicy at all. Ok maybe I have a high tolerance for spice but when I ask for spicy I expect some fire. Spicy here is like medium spicy. Don't expect too much at this place. I went here several months ago with one of my girl friends. We tried this place due to the decent reviews. Sadly to say, I will not be back. The food was okay, but I will admit that I am very biased towards Thai food. I am a HUGE fan of Madam Ma'ams in Austin, TX and I haven't found another Thai place that even comes remotely close. I tried the calamari which was not very good. It was extremely chewy and bland. No flavor at all. I also tried the Pad-See-Ew. My girl friend had the same thing. We were not very impressed. It was very oily had a lot of eggs in it. I barely at 1/3 of it and I had to call it quits due to the amount of oil. The oil overpowered any flavoring the Pad-See-Ew had. read more

It was my first check in yesterday, it was late 9:30pm, got a take out. immediately I regretted why I waited for over a year to check out this place. This Thai restaurant is surrounded by 3 Indian restaurants. May be thats why it is hidden from my sight this long. out of this 4 restaurants in this shopping complex. this restaurant hands down will take 1st place for Service and food taste and decor. I ordered my usual Thai cuisine favorite yellow curry with veggies and sticky rice and mangoes for dessert. If this was only based on the food I would give it a 5. However, the reviews are correct, they are very slow, I have never dared to come during peak times. We have come during down times, or with only a couple other tables occupied and it's still slow. The service is friendly, but spotty. Don't come if you are starving, you will become extremely aggravated. Do come with a bottle of wine and enjoy your company, it's going to be a minute. For the reasons above we have tried to quit ZENse, well it's still our favorite Thai place in the metroplex. If a reviewer mentions Blue Ginger in the same breath, no offense but they lost all credibility, there is no comparison. The food here is delicious and for the spice lovers a 3 will bring tears to your eyes and a sniffle here and there, just how I like it. The flavors are great though, still enjoy when I am sharing with the non-heatseekers and we get a 1 or 2. The Pad Kee Mao and Spicy Basil fried rice are amazing. The portion sizes are smaller, but the vegetables are nice and fresh and I think their beef is so much better than other Thai restaurants I have tried, big pieces of shrimp and thank goodness they don't mince the chicken. I will say I have not enjoyed their takeout at all. I don't know what goes wrong when I get takeout, the pad kee mao is always kinda dry and stuck together and the portion size seem even smaller I don't have time to eat there on my lunch break, but I will give an update on this takeout issue as I will try it again. read more

We were invited to Zense recently for my friend's birthday dinner. They told us it was BYOB so I happily packed up a bottle in my purse and we headed out. I have to admit, I think this is the first time I actually brought wine to a BYOB restaurant and I felt ever so slightly shady walking in with a bottle in my purse! The food was great. It had been a while since I had been to an authentic Thai restaurant so I was glad I ordered "mild" for my pad thai - whew - spicy! Service was almost great, the only thing I didn't like was the long time it took for them to serve our entire table. I would guess at least 10 minutes elapsed from the time they brought the first entree to the last. I know it's a small restaurant and small kitchen but I'm not into starting my meal before everyone else receives theirs...nor am I into eating cold food. read more

My hubs and I are always in search for a great Thai place, and since this place got good reviews we decided to check it out. We know good Thai food when we have it, we've been to Thai places all over DFW, but this place...FAIL!!!! I only give it 2 stars cause the Tom Yum was good. We decided to go early since I read that the food takes a long time to come out. We were the only guests there on a Saturday early afternoon. We started with Tom Yum, and Tom Kha. I thought my tom yum was pretty good, better then most of the other Thai places I've been too, but it wasn't the best (the best is at Baan Thai in Lewisville) anyways, hubs thought his Tom Gha was pretty good too... then we ordered their "summer rolls" with chicken..I was like, "where's the chicken?" for $4.95 they could have put in a little bit more chicken and less noodles...they were literally the size of a toothpick! I chose their pad thai for my main entree. I should have known something wasn't right when it came out dirty brown...I've never had brown pad thai before...it tasted like sweet soy sauce noodles with a hint of spice. On top of that, there were lots of tiny little black specks all over my noodles. When I asked about it, the waiter said it was from their roasted peanuts...but I wasn't convinced..it looked more like burnt junk from whatever wok/pan/skillet they used. It was by far the nastiest pad thai I've had...and I've had a lot! My hubs got the Tom Yum Noodles...he thought it was "ok" .... What grossed me out the most was that the waiter decided to blow his nose really loud and long...naturally, I looked to see if he was going to wash his hands since my hubs hadn't got his food yet...to my horror he just looks at the napkin he blew his nose with (what was he looking for? to see how much came out of his nose? gross!) of course he didn't wash his hands and brought out my hubs food. I told my hubs, but he didn't care...he even asked the waiter for a pair of chopsticks...which he brought out...with his nasty dirty hands...he gave me a pair too, but of course I didn't use it. Their prices are also a little bit higher then average...my chicken pad thai was $10.99...really??? at that price, the pad thai should have been worth it! our total bill came out to just under $40...we could have gone to our favorite places and ate a lot better for that! Again, we love to try out new Thai places in our search for the best Thai place in town, but this place was just a miss...we def will not be going back. At least the tom yum was good... read more

Last night I took part of my band out to this place to eat. Many reviewers are right, it's a weird lookin' place, but I didn't visit for the decor...I went to grub, and grub well. I haven't had much luck with Thai food in Las Colinas/Valley Ranch, but last night was different. All of us had something different; one went with beef, one with chicken, one took the noodle route, and I had their pan seared salmon. Every single one of us remarked how delicious our meals were, and I was no different. Everything was plated beautifully and the taste matched the first impression.
