Think of it like Chipotle but for poke. Me and my boyfriend went there for the first time and the staff was beyond helpful. When you first walk in it's overwhelming the amount of options you have but the ladies behind the counter explained everything so well and even made recommendations on what they and other customers like. I've had poke in Hawaii and Los Angeles which might be two of the best places to have it in the USA but freaking ZenFish is a hidden gem. I was a bit skeptical of the freshness due to the fact of where it's located (NC) but I was blown away with not only the freshness of the fish but the quality of the veggies and everything in between, the options are endless. ZenFish was awesome! We went last Saturday night and the line was almost out the door, but it went surprisingly fast. Think, Chipotle, but Poke style (and much better). I got a large Kindness with avocado and my husband did the build your own. You do get a lot of quality, healthy, food for the price, more so than going and getting rolls from a sushi restaurant. There are so many options for toppings and sauces, it's almost overwhelming, but you really can't go wrong. The staff was also super friendly and helpful in making decisions! I will agree with others, in that there is not a ton of seating inside, but they do have a couple of tables outside. The night we went, they had the front door open and it was actually almost too warm to eat inside. We got ours to-go though and they were very accommodating with packing any sauces you want to take home. We will definitely be back! read more

We had poke for the first time tonight at Zenfish and really enjoyed the experience and the food. The process of ordering was straightforward, fast, and fun! I can't eat raw fish, but there were several cooked seafood choices (shrimp, crawfish, crab) as well as tofu and sweet potatoes. As we approached the register to pay, I asked if I could get a small empty bowl so that we could share some of our food with our toddler (who really doesn't need her own adult-size meal). The owner heard, and although it wasn't on the menu he made my daughter her own toddler-size portion of rice with some veggie toppings. It was perfect for her. We so appreciated the kindness. As for the food: we loved it. My husband and I each had a rice bowl - the regular size for me, large for my husband. We can both put away a lot of food. I thought my portion was just the right size; my husband was overstuffed after finishing his large bowl and said he'd get regular next time. I had tofu and shrimp as my proteins. The shrimp were large, and the tofu was soft and very tasty in the house sauce. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and appealing. We'll be back! read more

So this is the second Poke style restaurant I have been too... I still think its a very cool concept. I have brought many friends to this place, even those that HATE sushi (which baffles me, and dont be alarmed if you are one them, because you will like this place even though you do not like sushi!!--by the way if you do not like sushi, you need to come out with me, because I will change your mind!! I do think you should try this place out for a quick lunch or a nice 'lets catch up lunch'. Its a very informal place, very affordable... you will probably spend as much as you would at any other lunch restaurant like chipotle. The concept is similar: You pick rice or salad, you pick the kind of seafood you want, and you add your toppings. Can be spicy, can be flavorful, can be whatever you want it to be! It is all about what flavors you like. Kinda like sushi in a bowl if you ask me.. not as great as sushi, but does the job! Definitely try it out, the concept it nice. read more

This place is pretty good. The rice was cold though in my bowl so that did not make for a great experience. Staff was not very nice, they were just there to make a buck it seemed like and did not care about the experience of their guests. First timer to Zen Fish and I'll give it 4/5 stars. The food was good and the options were diverse. HOWEVER: they don't have "spicy mayo" as a topping (which I regularly get on my sushi). That should defiantly be added to their sauce choices. ALSO the beverage selection is sub-par. They had several sparkling water options, 1 passion fruit drink in a can, and a couple of alcoholic drinks as well.. there was regular water available too of course. I personally don't enjoy sparkling water and would have preferred something more common to accompany my meal like a regular soda, lemonade, or juice. I got the least expensive menu item- a white rice Poke bowl that included 3 protein options and my choice of toppings (avocado added at $1 extra) and that passion fruit canned drink. My husband and I stumbled upon ZenFish quite by accident. Honestly, I am not a fan of Poke. It is a favorite of my son. I have only tried Poke twice before I visited ZenFish. The staff was super nice and very helpful in exploring the menu. I got the signature Grateful bowl and it was delicious! Yes, that is right you read delicious! ZenFish was extremely clean, all ingredients were fresh, portion size was good. We will definitely be back! Note: We were there on a Saturday for lunch. It is small so may not be great for a real large party. A lady did struggle with a stroller but as everyone was friendly, it all worked out. There were two if not three young families there with strollers that day. Nice outdoor seating is also available under an overhang so it is shaded. Very pleasant dining atmosphere. read more

I have been waiting anxiously for this place to open. Let me tell you, it was worth the wait. The ingredients are fresh and I love the variety. The portions are just right, house sauce is awesome. Yessss. Poke has finally entered the South!!! FYI, this place is tiny. And when I say tiny, I mean like one community table and few bar seats (but there is a small amount of outside seating as well). I love having options and this place allows for so many combinations of veggies, fish, and starches. There's even quinoa as a starch base and spiral zucchini noodles! Okay, so neither of those are actually part of Asian cuisine but I appreciate the healthy options over white rice. You can pick as many proteins as you like but are limited on the total ounces of meat unless you pay extra. The toppings include everything from kimchi, to fresh chopped veggies, fried onions, seaweed salad, avocado and more...think self-serve fro-yo status as far as toppings variety. They also serve local beer and have kombucha on tap! Two thumbs up, Zenfish! (Plus it's right next to Monuts....healthy poke bowl followed by a sweet treat! #twobirdsonestone). read more

Janet guided my wife and me through the menu expertly, offering advice and personal preferences without getting frustrated with us for not knowing what we wanted. Freshness is a major component of delicious poke. As soon as we walked in, I felt there was a mark against the level of freshness because the place smelled a little funky. Then, looking at the ingredients, they didn't exactly scream "fresh." The spicy tuna was minced and looked a bit overworked. But, the biggest nail in the coffin was when we got our takeout home and my daughter asked to not finish her protein, because it didn't "taste fresh." When a kid doesn't want to finish a protein, that's not a good sign. Overall, the flavors were fine. We had the ponzu sauce and honey wasabi aioli, and each had good flavor. But, I won't be back on account of the lack of freshness. Also, as others have pointed out, the portions are fairly tiny for the price. The bowl with the less-than-fresh protein only had 6 small shrimp. Mind you, some of that went in the trash, as already stated. But, had it been fresh and tasty, it would not have felt like nearly enough protein. read more

I love poke, and ZenFish is the best I've had. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and creative (kimchi octopus? so good!). The space is cozy, and you can tell that so much thought and heart have been poured into every detail there, from the locally sourced ingredients to the chalkboard gratitude wall to the special soaps with a story in the bathroom. My favorite new place! My husband found this place on a best of 2017 list this morning and we decided to hit it up for lunch. You can create your own poke bowl or poke burrito, add every topping you can think of, sauces, for $10!!!!!!! It was fresh, full of vibrant flavors, and so good. Aside from letting you pick the exact ingredients, they're great with suggestions about making sure things complement each other. Alex is awesome!
