ZenFish doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's a gem for good poke bowls. You can take your bowl to the taproom next door. They use sustainable takeout materials, so no concern there. My neighbor and I each got a bowl and sat on an outdoor two-top table. The kitchen staff are friendly and ready to help you craft your bowl. I recommend saving half if you can. I had a sudden crave for poke bowl and decided to check out ZenFish, seen it a few times but never got a chance to visit. This location is right by Southpoint Mall, lots of food options minutes away from this place, but it's worth checking out! I ordered online for takeout and was in an out in less than 30 seconds, seamless experience. Got a regular poke bowl with ahi tuna, salmon and crawfish with miso ginger and house dressing. Miso ginger is my all time fave and it goes really well with almost anything, and if this is your first time trying poke I recommend trying it first. Overall I enjoyed my bowl! I just wish protein scoops were a bit bigger, if you're hungry definitely go for large bowl as opposed to a regular one. Second time at this location of Zenfish. Great choice of French proteins, greens, rice, or noodles for the base, and solid choices for extras. I don't think I've ever made the same choices twice. The customer service is very patient, explaining each ingredient if the patron doesn't know an item. I'm a sucker for salmon and tuna, and their pickled onions were so very tasty. But most of the flavors blended nicely into an explosion of fresh sea wind in your mouth. Very satisfying! They also do a great job of helping you separate your trash, as good stewards of the earth. They're located right next to Milk Lab in the Sprouts shopping center on 54. They don't have a sign yet but you'll be able see their rainbow fish through the windows! If you've been to their Morrisville and Durham locations, you know they serve the best poké in the Triangle! My personal favorite is build your own bowl with house tuna and ahi tuna with brown rice. They offer quinoa, zucchini noodles, organic salads l, and more for their base. Their house made sauces are phenomenal. My favorites are honey wasabi aioli and sriracha aioli! Honestly, everything you can get your hands on at ZenFish is amazing. ZenFish is one of the small businesses that warms my heart! As with their other two locations, I only have good things to say about ZenFish 3! They have the best poke in the area, hands down, and their food has been consistently good every time I visit, and this location was no exception. I love Zenfish because they go the extra mile and really feel like a part of our local community. From friendliest employees to compostable bowls and utensils to collaboration with other small businesses, what's not to love?! This South Durham location is right across from Southpoint Mall and between The Mad Popper (delicious gourmet popcorn) and Milk Lab (for all your boba and rolled ice cream needs) so you can really be in a foodie heaven here! They also have several tables outside! If you've never been to Zenfish or had poke (and eat seafood), I highly suggest getting spicy tuna (my other recommendations are house tuna, salmon, and ahi tuna). The food was alright but the service was really bad. The cashier was very inpatient and very rude to me. I asked her if the spicy sauce goes well with the eel sauce. It's either she didn't understood me or she purposely ignored me. She seemed very annoyed after hearing my question and shook her head after when she was preparing the meal. Let me start by saying I really wanted to give this a try! We didn't realize there are 3 locations, and I still like to try one of the others. I LOVE Zenfish! It is my favorite Poke in the triangle. I am so happy a third location is open. This one is way more convenient to things I do than the other 2 locations. I have become a HUGE fan of Poke Bowls and have been checking out as many options in the area as possible. If you don't know what Poke is, think of it as sushi in a bowl. You can customize the ingredients, the sauces, the vegetables and more. ZenFish Poke Bar is my FAVORITE Poke restaurant. There are a number of signatures options (preselected combinations of goodness) or you can build your own (which is my preference). First step is picking a size Regular (3 scoops) or Large (5 scoops) for your protein. Next step is selecting your base (white rice, brown rice, quinoa, organic salad, zucchini noodles or half-half). Then, you select your proteins (house tuna, ahi tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, yellowtail, scallop, shrimp, Krab, octopus, crawfish, sweet potato or tofu). Then, you select your mix-ins (green onions, sweet onions, cucumber, jalapeños or mangos). Next, you select your sauce(s) (house sauce, spicy house sauce, truffle ponzu, miso ginger, sriracha aioli, honey wasabi aioli, or eel sauce). Finally, you pick your toppings (edamame, seaweed salad, local micro greens, pickled onions, watermelon radish, massage, kimchee, pickled ginger, carrots, turmeric-pickled daikon, or avocado). So many great combinations that you can pick from. If you don't like it, who is to blame? J/K I LOVE this place. Wow!!! Zen3's grand opening was a surprise to me and is surely one of the greatest things to happen to this world (especially Durham!) in 2020! Newly opened and completely equipped for serving the community during these uncertain times- they have a huge plexiglass wall protecting both staff and consumers when ordering your bowls, contactless payment, social distancing enforced in lines, and safe dining options. Right off exit 276, near Southpoint, the new Zenfish is nestled next to Milklab in a shopping center with plenty of parking and space to sit outside. If you've ever been to the other Zenfish locations, you already know what to expect here: amazingly fresh poke, the friendliest staff around, and an excellent experience overall. Zenfish is and has remained my #1 favorite poke bar in the area. Not only do they always support local farmers and businesses, but during these times, Zenfish has also gone above and beyond to lead the way in supporting their local community, by working with other small business owners, as well as through their monthly NPO donation efforts through #CookieForaCause. They and their employees choose a new nonprofit to support every month! Normally, I'm a build-your-own poke bowl kinda girl but this time I decided to try something different. As recommended, I tried their Courageous bowl for the first time and it was SO good. If you like tuna and you like spicy then you have to try it. I also ordered a chocolate chip miso cookie to support their monthly non-profit, which I believe is to benefit Alaska SeaLife Center. I also saw they have Ube cakes in jars made by another small business owner, Ube by Cha. You already know I bought one of those too (but I should have bought more because they're so good). It's always great seeing new businesses pop up in the Triangle and it's even better when it's an already established and beloved restaurant in the area. I can't imagine how difficult it is to open a new location during the current state of the world. With everything Zenfish stands for and the quality of their products, I can't find a reason to NOT keep coming back! Wow. I've had a lot of Poké in my life... but I can confidently say that ZenFish is arguably the best Poké that I've ever had. Food (5/5): ZenFish has both bowls, and burritos. I personally got the "Courageous" bowl, one of their signatures. This one is spicy, but if you can handle the heat, I'd highly recommend it. My girlfriend got the "create your own" option, and loved how customizable everything was. I definitely appreciated how you weren't limited to how many "mix-ins" or toppings you could choose from - this is usually a dealbreaker for me at other Poké places. The sauces were also incredible - they make these in-house. Service (5/5): The staff was incredibly friendly. Huge shoutout to Chase for being such a great server. Also, if you order online, it's really convenient - their menu is easy to follow. Bang/Buck (5/5): Given the very reasonable prices (11.45/reg, 13.95/lg), and the amount of food you actually get, I'd consider this place to be several dollars more affordable than some other well known Poké restaurants. They also have a ton of different options for those of you with different diet types! At the time of this review being written, they've grown to three locations. So if you live in the Triangle, there's probably one near you if this one's far out. We stopped by on their grand opening day (I might have even been the first official customer) and got a veggie bowl and a customized bowl to go. Staff was very nice and the food was delicious as expected. I also got a miso chocolate chip cookie since sales benefits a wildlife fund. You can also get a discount if you have a Shop Durham card, although we didn't use it since the food was already discounted on opening day. I've been living in the area for about a month now and had my third visit to ZenFish and they were all fairly consistent visits each time, which meant good food, bad service. I'm from Hawai'i so Poke bowls are sacred to me. This is my disclaimer: THESE ARE NOT HAWAII-STYLE POKE BOWLS. These are mainland-gentrified poke bowls but still of good quality. They have a wide variety of seafood options but the standouts are the house ahi tuna, and salmon. The house ahi tuna is pre-seasoned with their house sauce and onions. I would eat their house ahi alone. The salmon is also delicious: soft and fresh. The toppings are also great, I like that they have diced mangoes because it adds an element of tang and sweetness. Now the down side of this location: poor service. Each time I went in, the workers behind the counter seemed too busy for the patients or they were annoyed that we came in because the interaction was short and curt. Either way, the food still came out tasty and I don't think that they shorted me on portion sizes -- so that's a silver lining! read more

This place was recommended to me on Yelp and I'd never heard of it before. I was surprised to see there's a couple around here. The name is fun and the pictures looked yummy. There's quite a few Poke bowl places in the Triangle and I tend to stick to the one I know. But since I was already in the area to visit MilkLab I decided to try something new! Poke bowls can be overwhelming because there are so many choices. While I like sushi and poke bowls I am a little bit of picky eater so I really need to examine everything. Lucky for me and the slow orderers of the world who need to contemplate life before they choose a topping, Zenfish has only be ordering. It's on their website, powered by Chowhound. The interface is very easy and mobile friendly. Sign up in two seconds and pay via Apple Pay. So I was able to look over their menu at my leisure. You can choose from a poke bowl of sushi burrito. They didn't have as many toppings as I've seen at other places but they did seem to have more protein options for vegetarians and people who prefer their seafood cooked. I liked that. I opted to go with the sushi burrito. I thought the price was pretty fair. Especially for their recipients, you get a lot for 11.45 and it seems to include the premium ingredients. I decided to put together my own sushi burrito. I only had to pay a buck for the avocado. They had some other options like cookies and drinks and a few appetizers. I decided to get the mango spearmint punch because with a combination like that, how could I resist? It was a quiet Sunday afternoon when I arrived too early. The staff member was still making my burrito but I didn't mind waiting. I appreciated how she took her time and brought it over to me personally. She even confirmed my special instructions. They write messages on the take out bags too! Very cute. The inside was spacious for a small establishment. It looks like a good lunch spot to hang for a 30 min lunch break. Once COVID is over! The sushi burrito was double wrapped, which kept it fresh because I didn't get around to eating it until like 20 minutes later. But it was still cold and ready. She sliced it into two neat halves. Generous helping of proteins and toppings. Burrito was perfectly wrapped. All the toppings I chose tasted really good together. But the best part was the miso ginger sauce! I had no idea I was going to like it so much. But it was REALLY good and added just the right amount of zing to the burrito. I feel like I could eat it on tortilla chips. I wish I ordered more. I wish I could give this place more stars but unfortunately every time I come in here the portion sizes seem to get smaller and I am met with the most unpleasant employees. Today 1/7/25 I came in with my boyfriend for two sushi burritos. After waiting a few moments at the counter, a girl walks up to us. I greet her but instead of her greeting me back, she responds with "what can I get you" in the most quiet and apathetic tone. I proceed to tell her what I'd like in my sushi burrito while speaking with my voice slightly raised so she can hear me behind the glass but she keeps repeating "what??" to everything that comes out of my mouth. After the grueling ordering process is finally finished, she doesn't say another word to us while she charges us on the iPad, wraps our burritos, and sends us off with them. She also forgot to label them so we didn't know which one was which. Our total came out to $31.07 for two measly burritos with a heaping side of attitude. I am so excited that I now have a location of Zenfish close to where I live! I am gonna find myself visiting them quite often just because of the convenience of ordering (both in-person and online), parking space, and delicious food. I love their veggie bowls and am a regular at their Morrisville location. The food is so hearty and comforting, which is what makes me go back often. This time around, I wanted to try something different and got the veggie poke burrito and it was amazing. The staff at the counter was so courteous and gave great suggestions about what toppings would go well with the burrito. The added pull for me was the desserts from Ube by Cha (an amazing local baker). The ube jar cakes are now sold at all their locations. Do not miss it! It is great to note that this business always makes it a point to contribute to non-profits (selected by the customers) every month and also collaborate with other local businesses in the area. Their poke is also sustainable and they use biodegradable bowls and cutlery. They also have very clear markings for physical distancing and plexi glass for the counters.
