Visited Pho and Poke House in Durham due to my little sister, who had this as her first job back in 2018-19. Since then, I've been coming here on and off over the years, and it has consistently held up. Even though I don't visit often, every time I do, the food and experience never disappoint. We were in the area, and I wanted some pho. This spot pleasantly surprised us. The pho delivered--a rich, beefy broth with solid depth of flavor, a good variety of meats, and a satisfying portion size. The pork bánh mì leaned different from what we're used to. Instead of the usual lemongrass-forward profile, it had more of a hoisin-based sweetness. Service was average; the person at the register came off a bit disengaged. Cute little poke & pho spot. They have beef pho (you can choose three meats) , chicken pho, seafood, & veggie. It's nothing fancy here. They have a few appetizers and you can get poke bowls! The place was clean, it's an odd space because there's a side of the restaurant that just looks awkward where the soda machine is. Service was friendly and fast. Came here on about 12:45 on a Monday afternoon. We parked in the lot below and behind the building (in a spot marked Erwin Terrace. I don't know if they enforce but I didn't want to find out the hard way!) There were only a handle of people inside when we got there so we were helped right away. I got the Bon Bo Hue (spicy beef noodle soup) and my friend got a poke bowl. We sat out on the (covered) terrace since it was such a beautiful day. Our food came out almost immediately. My bowl was HUGE and so so delicious! As I was eating, I was thinking that it wasn't that spicy but my nose was running so I guess it was spicier than I thought. It was actually the perfect amount. I've never tried this at any other restaurant so I have nothing else to compare it to, but I thought it was very good and I would definitely get again. My friends really enjoyed her poke and was very happy it was available with a salad base. I'm not sure if I would get it as the was made like a chopped salad where all the ingredients were combined and mixed in with the sauce. Solid pho spot. Got the beef pho (you choose 3 meats), fast service and they use real avocado in their smoothies.

Excellent both dining in and for take out. Dining in, the service is great. They are generous with their portions and the broth is quite good. If you order take out, they package the soup separately from the noodles, chicken, and extra toppings; the noodles do need some extra time to soak up some of the soup once you combine it though. read more

I'm glad to know there is a place to get decent Pho nearby our new place. The staff was courteous though not overly friendly. The Pho was really good and so were the appetizers. This is by far the best Pho in Durham. It's also one of the better bowls of Pho in the Triangle. The broth is well-balanced with a beefy and herby taste. The selection of meat is my least favorite part but they do use quality cuts of meat, from the meatballs to the steak. My only complaint is that sometimes there's no tendon. Bun Bo Hue needs some shrimp paste and chili satay; then it's very good. Being it in Durham, this is very good already. Broken rice is ok. If I don't compare to the real Com Tam, then this dish is good. If you ask me if this is a true Com Tam, then answer is "no". Just copy and paste the name to Google. You see what I mean. Never the less, it would eat it again when I want some rice and grilled pork. Atmosphere: (don't let this drive you away) while the out door seating is very pleasant, the indoor seating of this place is very cafeteria-esc. The owners young daughters toys seem to be everywhere, however this place was built for takeout I believe. Food: the food is good, they have lots of options, and they will give you decent portions. I only had one time where the tuna was super fishy, but you can just stay away from that. I go here almost every time I'm in Durham. Service: the cashiers are typically nice, sometimes they seem grumpy but over all I've never had a bad experience. And I'd be grumpy too if I was doing that and Grubhub orders at the same time. Finally, Durham has a pho restaurant. I cannot attest to the 'Poke', aka Hawaiian sushi salad. But, the pho is great. Not the best pho I've ever had, but very solid and definitely a spot that I will likely frequent. The broth is tasty and the quality of the beef in the pho is great. Not too many noodles, but just the right amount, which makes navigating the ingredients easy. It's semi-table service, an odd location, but a decent atmosphere. They bring out the food and bus the table for you, but drinks and anything else are self serve. I also get the spring rolls, with shrimp and pork, and those are pretty good as well, the sweet chili sauce for dipping is the perfect compliment to the roll. Staff are polite and service is reasonably quick, it's all cooked to order. Tl;dr: Authentic flavors, helpful staff, clean restaurant. Visited on a Friday afternoon and there was about half of the house full. Mainly students (foreign students, which is a good hint for me), who all ordered relatively the same thing: pho. I like trying a few things when I go to new restaurants so my gf and I will usually get two different things so we decided to get beef pho, bun bo hue, and summer rolls. The summer rolls were great, its rice wrapper was soft and supple, and the insides were full. Rice noodles, carrots, cucumber, and shrimp. Can't recall now if there were beansprouts, but it was still a full roll. The peanut sauce could have been thinner because it was hard to get good distribution of sauce, and dipping it in the container resulted in rice noodles falling out of the roll. The sauce flavor was good and I like the crushed peanuts in it. The beef pho we got with round steak meatballs. The meatballs were sliced into six pieces, so the individual pieces were smaller than I was used to, but the round steak was approximately what I have encountered at other pho restaurants. The broth was seasoned nicely, deep with aromatics, and clear enough to see the noodles underneath. One thing that was different for me was the addition of cracked black pepper. It wasn't a con, however I'm not used to it. It added to the end aromatics to the dish. The rice noodles were soft but just chewy enough. The bun bo hue was something I was looking forward to. I haven't had it since I moved from Vietnamese food-saturated Portland and Seattle. The flavor was deep and rich, however the oil on top of the soup made it hard to sip on the broth underneath, however when pulling up the noodles and toppings to eat, the oil covers things nicely which makes each bite unctuous and tasty. Personally, I would pull a little more oil off the top before serving, but that's my preference. We will be back! read more

Pho and Poke House is our go-to take-out option, we order pickup here about as often as we do from Chicken Bee (so I guess these two are our Top 2 take-out faves). The place being right across from Duke is so convenient for us. Pho and Poke is a clean, simple restaurant whose quality we trust. We always order Beef Pho and Pad Thai. Servings are huge, and we've always found the broth and sauce perfect for our liking. Our wait is generally about 15-20mins from when we ordered. Though we mostly get takeout from here, the place spacious indoor and outdoor seating. Pricing is decent as well, no complaints on my part at all. PS: we've never had their poke so I can't speak for that. They also have some boba drinks. read more

I think this place is underrated and doesn't get enough credit. It's a simple spot, nothing special, I usually get my food to go. Definitely my go-to place for pho in Durham! Pho is definitely my favorite comfort food, and so when coming to Durham it was important to find a good pho place. I've tried a few places here and this is by far my favorite, which I was a bit surprised about considering its a hybrid pho and poke restaurant. I consistently get my pho from here when I'm craving it. The broth is flavorful, and its pretty authentic based on my experiences at other restaurants/eating it at friend's houses. Chicken pho is my go-to, its super refreshing, comforting, and flavorful. I also consistently order the bun bo hue which is one of my favorites, and the broth is AMAZING. With either soup I devour the entire bowl. Every now and then we also order the spring rolls which are good as well. Of course its better eating in the restaurant, but this is also my go-to takeout restaurant. They do a good job of packing the food and it still tastes amazing. First time here for a quick lunch. I got the chicken fried rice, my companions got the pho and poke bowl. My rice was fresh, not greasy at all, and very flavorful with fresh chunks of chicken breast perfectly cooked. My companions both said their dishes were equally great. I'll definitely come back. Even though I don't like pho or poke I do enjoy many other Vietnamese dishes and this place is very good at other dishes that don't get top billing. The vegetarian summer rolls are divine and it's not unusual for me to get two orders and have four at a time. The peanut sauce is delish and they've been very good about giving me an extra container. I would buy it in a pint size if I could. The Bahn mi is superior with bread you actually want to eat and a nicely sliced tofu and veggie filling. Was seriously craving pho tonight so I hit up Pho and Poke House to get my fix! Great location (especially since it's so close to my apartment) with ample parking in the lot nearby. You order at the counter, take your number, and seat yourself. Not a huge or fancy restaurant by any means, but I think a lot of people get their orders to go. The menu is pretty limited, but what more do you need besides pho or poke? I opted for the beef pho with flank steak for my meat (in other words, pho tai - my usual Viet order). Quite pricey compared to normal...but I guess that's what I get for living in not-so-diverse Durham! The broth of the pho was pleasantly surprising - clear colored (a sure sign of a good cook) with decent flavor. My main complaint was that the meat was too tough and sliced way too thick - some pieces were hard to chew. I'm upping my rating to a four! The wait to get your poke bowl is still pretty long (because there's usually only 1 person going through the bar, so you have to wait even if there isn't a long line), but there are two main things I appreciate that are better than before: (1) my server was sweet and kind - when I asked her for her opinion for sauces, she told me what would go well and even explained why, and she was just smiling and pleasant and (2) she made sure that I got full scoops. Compared to other poke places that I've been to in the triangle area, I think Pho and Poke is the most generous - other places charge extra for avocado and their "scoops" are basically teaspoons (and often the scoops aren't even full). I also like how they have clean sauce stations where you can get sauce on the side if you don't want it in your bowl. I like the tuna better than the salmon just because sometimes the salmon still has some of that grey skin on, but the quality of both are good. I hope they keep up these positive things! read more

Really great to have pho and poke so close to Duke! They are pretty generous with the portions of fish in the poke bowls :) Great service and a lot of personal attention. I also love getting to choose your ingredients in the poke bowls. If you are a Duke student, the portions are maybe triple or quadruple Duke's portions from GInger and soy. "Pho and poke bowls right off Duke's west campus" In the location that used to house "Chai's", this new establishment has taken over, and it's a welcome addition. One orders and pays at the counter and then the food is brought to them (except poke bowls, which are made while-you-wait). Most of the menu is options for make-your-own poke bowls, but they had a few "signature" choices, too. I had a make-your-own poke bowl (mine with tuna & salmon), and my dining partners had the same or had the chicken pho. Positives: + Quality. The pho broth was excellent and accompaniments (cilantro, bean sprouts, peppers, hoisin) were very good. The chicken was a bit oddly dry in the broth but the rest was perfect. The poke bowls came out fantastic-- the fish was high quality and clearly fresh, and the sauces and other ingredients were also great. + Choices. SO many things one can put in their make-your-own poke bowls, even including decent quantities of ikura (fish roe), fresh avocado, dried mango, two kinds of seaweed, etc. And they let you put anything you want (including more than one) + Quantity. The pho bowls and poke bowls were quite large. Definitely a good-sized meal. + Price/ value. The smaller build-your-own poke bowl was $11, and it was plenty big. The pho was around $10 and again plenty big. + Service. The person I presume to be the owner was very friendly, helpful, and patient as we asked many questions. He also came and cleared our table after some of us finished. Negatives: - Really nothing. I could imagine one being choices/ speed for make-your-own poke bowls, though. Intrinsic when you give customers "lots" of choices is that they will be slower in their picks. It's like going to a Subways but when there are 3X as many choices of what add-ons to put on your sandwich, and many of them are completely unfamiliar and/ or in another language. We went on a Saturday night and it was empty, so this wasn't a problem, but I imagine it could be slow on a weekday lunch. My whole family was very happy with their experience here, and we'd be quite happy to come back. I really hope that they maintain the quality & service efforts, and that they don't raise the prices. Broth is clear (good sign), not too salty, noodles were nice and chewy, and portion size is decent for price. The chicken bahn mi was also really good - toasted bread, juicy chicken, and crispy pickled veggies. Unfortunately, the coffee fell short. From the taste, they use a good strong coffee, but mannnnnn please put condensed milk or a thicker cream in it because whatever dairy was in mine ruined the drink for me. This is such a nice location and interior, and a pretty good place to order a bowl of pho. I only ordered a Taro Boba tea. Not a big fan of it because of how bland the taro flavor is and also it barely had any sweetness. Have had their coffee boba before with the same effect.
