I've been to three Happy + Hale locations and while the menu is the same at all of them, the Ninth St location consistently makes the best bowls! Employees seem genuinely happy to interact with you and in many instances, have made awesome suggestions for modifications if an ingredient happens to be out of stock. If the weather is nice, I love eating on the patio to get in a little sunshine and a little people watching. Their rewards program is pretty great--I don't feel that it takes an obnoxiously long time to earn rewards. The app is also super convenient in that you can order ahead and offers curbside pickup (clutch when swinging by during peak times as Ninth St parking can get a little dicey). read more

I also like that they have basmati rice and as bases. Hot honey chicken is good, regular grilled is fine, and don't get the tofu. Happy and hale is a knock off.. but more expensive sweet green. The sizes are absolutely tiny and the employees refuse to fill the bowl with the proper amount of food. It's a copy cat sweet green down to the color of the bags and the business model. The only reason this place is in business is because they have no competition. The employee, Alex informed me that they are limiting the amount of food put in because of corporate standards... the standards need to be changed in order to justify those prices. See photo to see most of the bowl is air at the top. The only thing they give you normal amounts of is lettuce which I could buy a massive box of for under 7$. Happy and Hale literally makes me happy. Such a great go-to spot for some unique combination bowls. I got the Med Bowl (D for dairy). The spicy harissa, a Tunisian hot chili pepper paste, mixed with the herb yogurt dressing, really gives an explosive mixture of flavors intermingled with the other veggies in this bowl. At 565 calories [without the dressing], I'm surprised at how filled up my belly was when it seemed so little to me. Much loved. The other was the Thai chicken crunch (S for soy) (N for nuts) had a really nice crunch to each bite, but I didn't think the sesame vinaigrette really complimented it that well. We were doing a college visit and looked up best places to eat on/around campus. We get there at about 11:30 with a group of 5. We try to order Acai bowl. They stopped serving it. We try to order avocado toast. They stopped serving it. My daughter decided to go over to the bagel place at that point. The rest of struggled to find something, but we managed. One of us didn't feel well later so not sure if that is related but it does leave a negative memory. I was hungry a couple hours later. I have to be honest and say that I'm usually always a little suspicious of these fast-casual "healthy" places. The food is usually almost always overpriced and nothing special. Happy + Hale however, lives up to the hype! After a week of heavy holiday eating, we were looking for something fresh but still tasty. We decided to try this place out for the first time. The inside is bright, super clean and really fun. They have cool artwork on the walls and lots of pretty plants. We went with the beyond bulgogi and tried out both smoothie options that they had. The beyond bulgogi blew our minds! It tasted even better than ordinary bulgogi! The ginger carrots were fantastic and the pickled onions were exactly what we needed to cut through the creamy aioli and rice. I love that you can customize any bowl with any topping you'd like. There are so many combinations I can't wait to try between their veggie, meat and poke options I can't believe I only thought it was a salad spot. The smoothies were pretty good too although not my favorite that I ever had. The pink one was alright, I'm not a huge fan of dragonfruit and I found it just a little bland. Overpriced and overstretched. They're trying to do a little of everything when they should just stick to one niche, like salads and grain bowls. I don't get why they have poke or acai bowls on the menu when the ones they offer are so incredibly mid compared to going to an actual poke or acai spot. Not to mention how expensive their offerings are compared to similar restaurants! I mean $15 for a small acai bowl? I tried their coco curry which was good, but kinda lacking in toppings. All the curry broth soaks into the rice. Not a great execution... once again, just go to an actual thai place and get green curry. My bowl was very filling just because there was a ton of rice. Their marketing and general vibe screams 'healthy' but the actual bowls still taste kind of processed and too sweet for my tastes. (They also put the sauce straight in the bowl even though their website shows it on the side, so if you weren't planning on having a bowl already drenched in dressing, you better ask specifically for it on the side.) I ordered the Thai chicken one and my partner got the vegan bulgogi one. I'll say this, the veggies are all crisp, fresh, and healthy, and the proportions are right. They also cook both real and fake meat correctly (even my chicken breast wasn't dry, and that's almost unheard of for a place where chicken's just another protein topping and not a focus). But the sauce... it just ruins it. Turns a healthy bowl into a bowl of candy. Put it on the side and we'll talk. Be aware that their $7+ smoothies are pretty tiny - I would probably just go across the street to Jamba Juice if Jamba Juice had bee pollen add-ons (which they don't, but Happy + Hale does). read more

The young lady that assist me with the glasses was very passive. I don't know if I did not fit the normal. The portions were pretty small the orders prior to mine were quite handsome in size. This is a great healthy spot to grab a rice or salad bowl down on Ninth Street in the Bull City near Duke University. This place is like a build your own entree spot BUT they do have some set menu items. I tried the Beyond Bulgogi bowl with no changes or anything. It was pretty tasty! The prices were also very reasonable as well. The only thing I didn't like was that the beyond meatballs were kinda cold and not seasoned. The staff was so friendly! What makes this place different, though, is that their menu also includes smoothies and all-day breakfast options. To keep things simple, I ordered the scramble with mushrooms and spinach. Overall, the scramble was pretty yummy. The eggs tasted a little underseasoned, but I really appreciated that they use real eggs (as opposed to egg beaters) in this dish. The bacon was also a nice touch, but given that they use pre-cooked bacon crumbles, I thought the bacon tasted dry. Otherwise, I felt pretty satisfied after eating this meal. I chose Happy + Hale because it was convenient to the stop that I had to drop my sister off too. She wanted something healthy and light but filling and Happy + Hale is the perfect place. When we first arrived I noticed the parking. There is a lot spaces to park but it does cost during the day. The lot is situated next to the restaurant so it's only a short walk. Which is great. They have outdoor seating which is where we decided to sit once we got our dinner. When we walked in the restaurant was really nice clean lines and minimal colors. There was a short line which moved kind of fast. I noticed that there was new workers and there was a girl training some other workers. I like that everyone seemed laid back and they weren't in uniforms this is more of laid back feel because of the nearby college campus I'm sure. My sister ended up ordering the falafel bowl and I had the ensolada bowl. I paid about $22 for both of them. They both were delicious. We ended up sitting outside which was pleasant.
