Believe it or not, you can spend days trolling the Seattle streets in search of authentic coffee roasters. The birth city of Starbucks has tons of mini coffee chains scattered around town. But it is quite difficult to find the independent purveyors and/or roasters in town. We happened on this one from our fellow Yelp reviewers. The atmosphere is kind of cool and the location off Pioneer square lends itself to more regulars vs tourists. I ordered a skim au lait with foam. They had only one dark roast brewed so that is what I had. I loved that they had a wonderfully attractive and environmentally conscious fix-in bar for coffee beverages. And the foam on my au lait was a gorgeous, creamy consistency. The girls behind the counter are surely a bit cranky and the roast definitely was not the flavorful dark roast I was expecting. But it is still worth the visit. They serve locally procured pastries and it definitely has a nice local vibe to it. Warning though: service is a bit dicey and it won't be the best coffee you've ever tasted. read more

Zeitgeist was the next stop along my co-working cafe journey with East Seattle Yelp CM, Lauren P! Overall, I feel like Zeitgeist is an A-OK cafe in the grand picture of Seattle cafes. Atmosphere-wise, I loved the open, spacey feel. The windows let the natural light flow enough that I didn't even notice any artificial light. However, it was pretty busy on a Wednesday afternoon around 1:30ish. I hoped in a long line to order my chai latte and it really did feel like it took quite a while to get service. Once I did get service I was really pleased with the service I got AND the music choice for the cafe that day. A barista totally agreed with me and I felt instantly more welcome. Haha. I got my drink really quickly and I have to admit, although they use the same chai mix pretty much all cafes in Seattle use, I wasn't really feeling it. I think they may have over-steamed the almond milk, because it didn't taste creamy or smooth at all. There just wasn't much flavor happening. I also noticed there weren't many outlets around, so make sure you're charged up before you come in if you're looking to work. read more

Zeitgeist is a coffee house located in Pioneer Square. It is in close proximity to CenturyLink Field and King Street Station. I have been on a search for new coffee shops in the vicinity of downtown Seattle that are good spaces to work out of. And I believe that I have found a new option with Zeitgeist. This space is terrific. It is large and the interior has high ceilings. There is local art on the walls and they have the prerequisite free Wi-Fi. No password required, FYI. Outside the shop, they have a couple tables if you prefer al fresco dining. And if you pay for your purchase with cash, they give you a 5% discount. When it comes to the working out of coffee shop thing, the coffee itself is not as important as the space. But fortunately the coffee here is great. I like the lattes here which are bold tasting. The reason why I can't give five stars is that I am not sure about the reliability of the Wi-Fi. On my last visit, I was working here for a half hour when I suddenly lost connection to the Wi-Fi and wasn't able to get back on. I will have to give them another try to see if that was an one-time thing or a recurring issue. Aside from the Wi-Fi issue, I have to say that I like Zeitgeist. There is a lot of room here, prices are reasonable and the coffee is good. Assuming the Wi-Fi runs fine, I would recommend this spot as a coffee shop to work out of from. Great atmosphere, spent an hour or two here on our last day in the city. The music is pretty chill and it's overall a calm atmosphere. Wanted a muffuletta and was said to find out they were out, so I opted for the chicken pesto sandwich and I am glad I did cause it was absolutely delicious. The coffee on the other hand was mediocre at best, was fairly disappointed in that, the milk foam for my latte was burned and overall the entire coffee experience wasn't great. read more

My first visit here in years and since I started Yelping. The staff were wonderful and coached me through my order as requested. I had an Americano and their ham breakfast sandwich. The coffee was excellent. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to ask about the beans or the roast. But, they obviously select and prepare their coffee carefully. The sandwich was perfectly cooked unlike the unfortunate photo that leads their Yelp page today. The ham was underwhelming in contrast with every other aspect of my visit. Thinly sliced and cooked to perfection, it was unfortunately unflavorful. Still it was a very good sandwich. The place has high ceilings and great daylight. So, it was the perfect place to catch up with an old friend. The visit made me long for the days I worked in downtown Seattle. I hope to get back soon. read more

I stopped by on a Tuesday evening around 5PM and found the coffee shop to be fairly empty (which was great, because I needed a table haha) I loved the high ceilings, brick walls and the warmth of the wooden furniture. Try to grab a seat by the windows on a nice day! They serve a pretty solid cup of coffee as well - I went with my typical latte. :0 I don't venture down to Pioneer Square that often, but Zeitgeist is a good go-to when you're looking for a break from the typical Starbucks drip. read more

Nice cafe right across the street from the Klondike museum. I went in to have a quick breakfast while waiting for the museum to open. The architecture and decor are beautiful. They have ample seating and free WiFi, so I could actually see myself sitting here getting some work done or reading. The neighboring streets are a little intimidating due to the amount of homeless people sleeping on the street, but the business itself is a nice place where to sit and relax. I had the egg breakfast sandwich, which is super flavorful with the chipotle mayo and just the right amount of food to get you going for the day. Unfortunately, I get terrible heart burn from butter and the sandwich is toasted with lots of butter, so you may want to stick with the baked goods or ask if they could skip the butter on the panini grill if you have stomach issues like me read more

I went to have an interview nearby and so decided to come for a coffee break afterward. Environment & Internet: The place is big and open, many seats available and pretty classy looking. There are art paintings/ drawings on the wall by local artists which is awesome. They have plug-ins with seats next to walls, also free wi-fi without password which is great. So easy to get connected and yet the internet speed is not bad at all! I am actually here now and I see at least 5 people is on their laptops but the speed for mine is still fast and stable. Coffee & Donut: I had a 12oz latte for about $3.00 and a apple fritter donut for about $2.75? (not sure). Total is $6.50 which is not a bad price! Okay so the latte foam is thick and milky but not too much of it. Just a perfect layer for the latte. And the coffee itself is amazing! I only ordered 1 shot and it's very strong already. Not too bitter and still with a good strong decent flavor. I give it a 5! Apple fritter is a meh... Maybe I like the TopPot one so much I think this one is just ok. I can't tell if there's even apple chunks and even apple flavor in it! Only a strong cinnamon taste with a tiny bit of apple. Overall: I give a 4 stars. Good place to work and just chill for a whole afternoon. Since the place is big and wide open, even some people talk louder than they should it doesn't bother me. While strolling through Seattle, I came across Zeitgeist and was immediately intrigued by the layout of the shop. The interior was incredibly spacious and a perfect place to relax or get some reading done. The art and decoration inside also added more to my experience and comfort there as well. The latte I ordered was quite delicious and one of the better ones that I've tried in Seattle. I wish I had time to try more items along with the pastries since everything just looked on point. Would rate this higher if I could. Best cup of drip coffee (I like it strong and dark) I've found in Seattle thus far and have been to a dozen shops. Will be going back before I leave to get another filling. Had one of their veggie breakfast sandwiches as well and it was delicious. The building is large, great seating options to stay for a while or grab a quick drink and head out. I only wish they were located closer to where I'm staying and I'd go back multiple times. Not going to lie, I was originally planning to visit a different coffee shop near by, but this was the only café open on Sundays. But, oh boy, I'm glad I came upon this place! Such a cute café! By when I arrived which was around 3pm, most of the pasteries were already sold out! So tip for ya, come by early in the mornings if you want to grab a snack with your coffee! I ordered the iced cold brew and the chicken and pesto sandwich, which was recommended by a worker. My cold brew had the perfect balance between being acidic and smooth, yet somewhat chocolaty. My friend loved his sandwich and it came in general portion size. Worth every penny in my book! The workers were very patient with me when I couldn't decide what to order and still kept a smile on their faces. I really appreciate the difference that makes to the customers. This is my kind of coffee shop. The space is very warm like a bookstore. Ordered a doppio macchiato and a doppio con panna. These did not come with soda water on the side like an Italian serving. The quality of the bean and the shot were very nice. The whipped cream on the con panna is espresso flavored and was whipped stiff. It was a great version of a con panna. Probably my favorite coffee shop I visited in the the Pioneer Square area. read more

Walked in around noon, no line. Friendly service fast coffee, great steamed milk and artwork looked really good but sadly a great steam was wrecked by a bitter shot, I was pretty desperate. I stopped by this place before getting on the train. It's a very cozy and convenient location. Coffee was great! I ordered a chocolate mocha without the whipped cream but heard it's made in house and probably the best whipped cream you could have! So next time I'll find out, this week I'm watching my calories (hehe). It's such a huge space too which is a huge bonus! You can bring someone here for a coffee date, come have a meeting with business partners, or just hang out there and kill time if you're waiting for the train. They have a lot of really cool and yummy looking pastries, salads, and nifty sandwiches that look like they deserve a bite of! My favorite coffee shop in Seattle. I've not visited them all (is that even possible in Seattle?) but I was in town for a week and made it a point to go to at least two different coffee shops a day that I'd not been to before only local places, if I can get it at home I didn't go there). By the end of my trip I was going to Zeitgeist for my evening cup and to relax each day. It's a great space that's accessible from a bunch of neighboring activities and the train station. It's roomy with space to meet with friends or just hang out without feeling crowded. It has power for your stuff and doesn't mind you working there for a while. There is in and outdoor seating. The staff were relaxed and really friendly, the coffee drinks and hot chocolate are very good. My usual test of a cappuccino came with a good head and flavor and while the selection of pastries seemed a bit limited the things I tried were good. Yes, I'm adding this to my list of favorite coffee shops. read more

We were visiting Seattle for a fun getaway after Christmas. Of course, you're not going to go to Seattle and not try out a few coffee shops since it's essentially ground-zero for the coffee culture. We went into Zeitgeist for morning coffee and sustenance. The doppio espresso was delicious - a really nice espresso bean with rich flavors and, for me, just a little hit of steamed milk and a touch of sweetener. The bakery/breakfast offerings were great. Everything was fresh and, where applicable, hot/warm to offset the chilly morning. We brought back some to-go items for the others not brave enough to leave the hotel room and they gave a similar review. We'd definitely head back to Zeitgeist if in Seattle again. read more

Featuring massive amounts of brick and giant retro cabinetry, if you like a coffee shop with character, this is your place. Zeitgeist is the perfect spot to wait for the Amtrak train; I've been here many times. Their breakfast sandwich is always a treat: scambled egg, ham, and cheese, nestled inside griddled bread.
