As I sit here and take a moment to write my review I'm saddened by the fact that one of my favorite coffee shops is not nearly as good as it used to be. And to add insult to injury the barista was rude. The flavor of the coffee itself is not well balanced. And though my coffee was good, my friend ordered a dry Capp and it wasn't dry when she received it. She asked to have it remade and the barista said "no, it's dry". How rude. We will not be back. Umbria is across the street and Trabant is two blocks up. We will go there instead. One star. Smdh. I think it's the new girls. read more

Okay, 3.5 stars but only because I'm a Scrooge about baked goods sometimes. I came in late afternoon, and the doughnuts were a bit smushed and melting. Cookies were giant and semi-soft though. I had a ginger cookie, which was a lovely intro to fall given the misty weather outside. Having a cap here and just chilling in this charming high-ceilinged/windowed, spacious cafe were pretty relaxing. It would be a good spot to meet someone in Pioneer Square as it's convenient but none too close to the busier, touristy streets. They have good coffee and friendly service, though I find their food slightly overpriced and underwhelming. The space is large and beautiful, it's a nice place to read and get work done. Raising my rating from 3 to 4 because of their excellent cookies! read more

This is my favorite neighborhood coffee shop. My boyfriend and I are obsessed with their grilled tuna sandwich, and all the other sandwiches are really awesome too. Don't forget to get some lavender shortbread for dessert! read more

The only reason I didn't give this place a 5 is because I only got an Americano. Great atmosphere, chill spot, with great staff and service. I just came in for a quick cup and didn't truly get to explore the menu. So perhaps an update for next time? Overall, one of the more spacious cafes in Seattle and particularly this part of town. With the space, it is a great venue to meet up and get some work done for those of you with the laptop lifestyle. Spend the weekend in Seattle and tagged a bunch of coffee shops in the downtown area to check out, and Zeitgeist was one of them. Place is cute and has a vintage industrial vibe to it. Unfortunately the morning we went the staff seemed very very overwhelmed. There were probably around 4-5 people in line when the cashier yelled at the top of his lungs for the line to move towards the side wall instead down the center of the store. Whoa. Okay. The line shifted as we were all a little taken aback. We arrived to the cafe around 11 on a Sunday and 75% of the sandwich menu was sold old. Hum, that's odd, but okay. We placed our order and sat down to enjoy our coffees. As we sat, a large group of showed up, likely from some tour group nearby. The same gentleman that screamed at us to move the line seemed VERY upset that such a large group arrived. Saying how overwhelmed they are and how this "cruise ship" just arrived, as the tour group was mostly senior citizens. I just thought it was kinda tacky. I mean, yeah I get it, large crowds are tough on small coffee shops but hey, you're a cashier, buck up. So about 30 mins passed without any sandwiches and given how "overwhelmed" the staff seemed to be, we waited another 10 minutes before approaching the bar reluctantly to check on the food. The same man was still at the cash register. I nicely said, I know it's pretty crazy in here but we ordered a couple of egg sandwiches about 30 mins ago, so wanted to check in. He looked at me like he wanted to burn holes in my head, and informed me that they're coming. I asked if he wanted to know what I ordered so he can check, and he firmly insisted that they're being worked on. Sigh. Eventually our sandwiches showed up. A nice lady brought them out and apologized for the wait and asked if there was anything else she should get for us. I mean, I sorta felt like I was offending this guy by showing up that morning. I probably won't go back since there are tons of small cafes around, and who wants to be yelled at before you've even had your coffee on a Sunday. read more

On my trip to Seattle, I probably had a dozen or so coffees, espressos, and lattes. Only one stands out, and that's Zeitgeist. The latte here was prepared to perfection, trouncing any competitor with one sip. I was shocked, then saddened that I'd soon be leaving Seattle for a place that doesn't do coffee quite as well. Hey Zeitgeist - if you open a shop in San Diego, let me know. I'll be the one at the front of the line on opening day. read more

I have a severe appreciation for places that are able to obtain a Seattle-esque aura about it, and ZEITGEIST is hands down the place. The interior is so artsy-fartsy, meets modern simplicity that it tickles my insides. My friend and I visited the place around 6pm on the Thursday, when a local band was strutting and playing their stuff in the lounge while fresh cherry blossom branches adorned the counter. I ordered a Mocha, free poured and pretty frothy with a touch of hazelnut, and although the person at the counter seemed a little too uppity for my taste, I have to admit the Barista that made my drink gets MORE than just a 5 star. I have never had a more amazing mocha in my life, and on top of that he adorned my drink latte art and gave me a little wink. What an adorable atmosphere they got going on here. Positively a great place to relax and hang out, next time I'm in Pioneer Square I'm definitely visiting again and relaxing a bit. read more

I was on vacay in the coffee capital of the world and it didn't seem like it would be too difficult to find a coffee shop so I thought I'd use my trusty Yelp app to find the best of the best. As far as looks go, the space was kinda regentrified with exposed brick and super high ceilings which I thought was nice. Other than that, nothing struck me as being overly special about this place. I mean, it's not a chain, so I guess that's special. My latte and my beau's red-eye where just about average. Not too acidic like Starbuck's but, again, nothing too special. read more

While waiting to check in for the train to Portland my bf ran over to Zeitgeist for a snack and some coffee. He came back with a delicious latte and turkey and havarti sandwich. He said it was packed but he still came back very quickly so service is quick. Great place for a quick bite. read more

I was wandering around Pioneer Square on vacation from Virginia, and I wanted to grab some coffee and explore the city. The atmosphere of the place drew me in, but the employees killed my exciting, take-it-all-in vibe I had been experiencing. The people that work at this coffee place were so rude to me, just because I didn't live in Seattle, and that does no help to boost the popularity of this establishment. Of all the small town, local places I visited here, I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone, unless they wanted sub-par coffee and snobbishness thrust into them like you are not worth their time or attention. And honestly, who has time for that. Would not recommend to even my enemies. read more

FAB! I love Zeitgeist... its the real deal. I come here often, set up my laptop on their fast wifi and work at the bar. Really nice open floorplan. Good corner location w/ alot of windows and a warm brick interior. They have baked goods, salads and sandwiches, all good. The coffee is very good and inexpensive (compared to other cafes). Bonus - no extra cost for a "white" or "dark" mocha; a 12 oz is less than $3. Another bonus - Top Pot doughnuts. HOWEVER, I have never encountered a friendly or welcoming barista; each one I have had the displeasure of interacting with has been cold, did not make eye contact, and strictly task-oriented (and it has not been busy when I have been there). That is where a chain like Starbucks has an advantage over Zeitgeist. I never tip at Zeitgeist because I don't feel it's been earned, but I always tip at Starbucks-even though it's pricier and lower quality coffee-because of their excellent customer service. I firmly believe that a warm attitude makes a world of a difference in a customer experience. read more

We had the doppio macchiato, 12 oz classic cappuccino and 12 Carmel latte. Top notch coffee! Really amazing coffee here and while the pasty in the case are arranged beautifully, be careful that your not handed something that should have been discarded days ago. This is a great little coffee place in Pioneer Square. It's very spacious, with lots of tables and chairs and even has free wifi. They have a good selection of loose leaf teas as well different coffee options and can be served in different for here sized mugs instead of one size mug. They also have sandwiches and pastries and some granola/yogurt around the counter. This is a great place to meet friends, have a meeting or just grab a quick coffee that isn't starbucks. read more

My husband and I go here when we're staying in Seattle. One of our favs for lattes. Awesomeness in a big cup. Great pastries. They sell one type of either ground or bean (not too oily) Wonderful old brick building...Seattle's heritage. Lots of space inside to put your feet up and stay awhile. Street parking-meters. Seattle's Underground Tour is around the corner. Make a day of it with visitors. read more

I miss this place dearly. When I lived in Seattle it was by far my favorite place for coffee. I would go out of my way to drive down here, circle around for ten mintues for parking, and sip on the most AMAZING coffee I've ever had. No joke. Good coffee, great place to stop while waiting for Amtrak.

Iced americano is really smooth and has a great finish. If you are stuck at the Amtrak station, it is a good place to hang out.

I stopped by really quickly to just get a macchiato. The color of the crema was a great deep brown color and it was very sweet. Definitely a solid macchiato. read more

I usually get to work an hour early and today I decided to try a new cafe, Zeitgeist. I ordered a vanilla latte and it probably was the best I ever had in town. No kidding. However, I am giving this place 4 stars because I don't see any complimentary parking around which I believe should be a must for every cafe and also the wifi is a little slow and lagging. read more

I tried the cafe latte and the lavender lemon shortbread. I'm not sure if I've ever had this pastry before but really enjoyed the sandy texture and the tint of lemon zest and subtle taste of lavender. It was pretty empty around 5/6pm; it's a pretty spacious space. Good vibe for coffee and hipster activity. read more
