I was honestly pretty nervous about eating alone, but from the moment I walked in, the environment felt so comfortable and welcoming that it eased my anxiety quite a bit. The staff was incredibly friendly, especially my waitress, Sarah. She was so kind and made me feel completely comfortable, which meant a lot to me as someone eating alone for the first time. She truly made the whole experience that much better! And the food... WOW. Every bite was packed with flavor, and I absolutely chowed down The fries were perfect, and I loved the Cajun seasoning on them. The smash burger was delicious and cooked perfectly -- although it was definitely a little messy, so consider yourself warned haha. The mozzarella sticks had an AMAZING cheese pull, and the sauce was absolutely divine. And then there was dessert. Let's just say it was probably meant to feed two people... but I ate the entire thing by myself because it was THAT good. Overall, I couldn't have picked a better restaurant for my first night and my first solo dining experience. Great food, wonderful staff, and such a comfortable atmosphere. I'll definitely be back!

I know people love Champys around here but we love hot chicken and this place does it best…read more No frills, simple restaurant with 10 or so tables. You walk in and you choose your table and a nice waitress will bring your menus. We like the chicken strip basket which comes with two sides. Of our favorites are the fries, the collard greens, green beans, and mac and cheese. The chicken strips are very crispy, the meat is just a little dry but the flavor is great with even the mild level heat having nice heat. We also got the catfish which has a perfect crust and perfectly cooked inside. The baskets come with sauce and you get two per order. Probably more than you'll need. You get great food for an affordable price. Good Southern service. Just all around one of our faves.

3.75/5 -- The Flaming Rooster | Chattanooga, TN…read more I stopped by The Flaming Rooster while in Chattanooga, and overall, I'd give the experience a 3.75 out of 5. There were definitely some highlights especially the catfish and the service. The ambience has a real throwback feel. It isn't fancy or modern, but that's part of its character. It reminded me of an old-school neighborhood Southern restaurant, and I actually appreciated the nostalgia. Between the decor, the food, and a cup of Kool-Aid, there were moments that genuinely took me back. The service was one of the strongest parts of the experience. Janet was a 10/10--friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout our visit. The kitchen staff was also very efficient, and our food came out hot and fresh. Missy, who rang us up, was hilarious and brought even more personality to the experience. The staff definitely made us feel welcome. Now, the food: Fried Catfish -- 10/10. Hands down the star of the meal. The catfish was fried perfectly, crispy on the outside, tender inside, and seasoned extremely well. This is what I would come back for. If you're visiting for the first time, I recommend starting with the catfish. Fried Chicken -- 7/10. Good, straightforward fried chicken. It was crispy and enjoyable, but nothing that completely separated it from other good fried chicken I've had. Still, I would order it again. Macaroni & Cheese -- 5/10. Not bad, just average for me. It worked as a side, but it didn't stand out compared with the catfish. The potato salad reminded me of Sam's Club potato salad, which actually isn't a bad thing because I like Sam's Club potato salad. It had that familiar, simple flavor. And the Kool-Aid mix deserves a mention. That took me straight back to childhood. Something about Kool-Aid alongside fried catfish and chicken just fit the throwback atmosphere perfectly. Overall, 3.75/5. The sides could be stronger, but the catfish was excellent, the service was outstanding, and the nostalgic atmosphere gave the restaurant its own personality. Janet and Missy helped make the visit memorable as well. If I find myself back in Chattanooga, I'd definitely stop by again. I also recommend giving The Flaming Rooster a try if you're in the area. And seriously-get the catfish. 10/10.

Ah hawl nah - extra spicy!!!! Delicious but not for the faint at heart.

Fast forward to this afternoon, when I noticed that the "charred" chicken came out of a plastic ziplock bag that had been sitting in hot water for who knows how many days. The chicken was hard since it was over cooked or just old. They offer lots of sides, but unfortunately no sweet plantains which is what most ppl ask for, according to the worker. I was hoping for fresh chicken off the grill, but unfortunately all I got was a half stomach full of microplastics since it was hard to eat the hard pieces of chicken. $12 loss for me today vS hundreds of dollars I would have spent every year if they had fresh food. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because the seasoning was still flavorful although the chicken was hard.

Highlight of the drive. For the first time, today was different. The very friendly young women who first greeted us and guided us through the menu years ago are gone. In their place are unfriendly young ladies who would far prefer to chat with each other than provide even acceptable-level service. We were tolerated, not welcomed or even checked on to see if we wanted anything. I waited and waited for her to notice me at about ten feet away as I waved my empty beer can in hopes of getting a second one. Finally I had to interrupt the conversation between the waitresses by raising my voice above their conversation, "excuse me, may I have another?" Again, we were there early today. Just before 5:00 PM. That is how timing works when you are on the road. So the place was nearly empty. They weren't busy with customers. They were busy chatting amongst themselves. As we completed our fried chicken (still very good), she came by and did not ask if we wanted anything else but simply said "ready for the check?" It was a way to make us feel like we needed to leave. To add insult to injury, we passed by the hostess table outside on our way to the car as we left and we happened to pass between two Champy's young female employees chatting at the hostess station and blocking the way out. We had to say "excuse me" and walk between then as they kept talking to each other. Never did they bother to say "thanks for coming, please come back soon." So maybe after all this time...we won't.
