Chicken & Dumpling Soup and 1/2 Smoked Turkey | Swiss Cheese Sandwich - Good!
    Kathy T.

Both our lunches were from the "Take 2", which means 2 items for $8 and some change, which is a very reasonable deal. But for some unexplained reason, an extra $1.25 was added to my French Dip. Also unexplainable was the price difference from our first visit. Because last time, I remember thinking this was a decent place to come that will allow two people to have a simple meal for under $20. No explanation why my total this time was $6 more, and both meals, both times, were from the "Take 2" selections. I took off a star for this, because I really dislike having my (anticipated) total ready, and then have to go digging in my purse to get my wallet out again for even more money when the total is announced higher than expected. I wouldn't have minded had the food been worth the extra cost. It wasn't. My Chicken n Dumplings Soup tasted old. No huge, lean chunks of chicken this time. The noodles were all stuck tightly together on top of one another, which made eating difficult, since the noodles are both wide and thick. They were gummy as well as being stuck together. I did not get any dumplings in this cup, which was disappointing, since that was the best part of the soup the first time I had it. Perhaps the soup was made the day before. It was rather flavorless. My French Dip, which I asked for "grilled" was not as crispy as I'd have liked it to be but it was passable. When I asked for it grilled, the girl said, "We no longer grill our sandwiches", which I wouldn't have known, since I am new to Chattanooga. But you would think if a customer mentions "grilled crisp", and since there were at least seven cooks in the kitchen, probably more, there could have been some effort to crisp it up to resemble something close to what the customer is asking for. I say this with the knowledge there were only three other customers eating in McAllisters, so the ratio of cooks to customers was 2 to 1! The taste of the sandwich itself was rather good, but for the use of a hoagie roll, I would expect their meat weight for that sandwich to not be so light on meat. It needed more meat if you're going to use that much bread. I took off another star for this. I doubt we'll be back.

We decided to stop here for lunch in the middle of a road trip for lunch, and we are so glad we did! The food was so good, amazing quality for the price. The employees could not have been nicer. The customer service was outstanding. The interior was so clean! They were so fast at clearing tables and keeping the place spotless. If we weren't from out of town, I'd make this a regular spot.

I ordered delivery from this restaurant and when I went to take a bite of my sandwich it didn't taste right. That's because there was a piece of paper cooked into my sandwich. I ate some of the paper so I am sick to my stomach at the thought. On top of that I called the restaurant to ask them to please not burn my sandwich bread, because they usually burn it. When I open up my sandwich all I see is burnt sandwich bread.

My wife and I love McAlisters, we've been to this location several times and had good experiences however, my wife was very surprised to bite into a toothpick that was inside her sandwich this last time we picked up lunch. The toothpick wasn't stuck through the top of the sandwich to hold it all together but instead was laying in between the cheese and meat inside the sandwich. I'm sure this was a mistake but nevertheless a rather dangerous one that could've ended very badly. My food was perfect and our order was ready right on time so I hate to complain but with something that could cause harm to a customer I felt I needed to share.

I arrived just as the owner was getting ready to close. Even so, he kindly welcomed me in and made me a sandwich, which immediately left a great impression. I ordered the daily special with a side of pasta salad, and both were excellent. The sandwich was generously filled, the ingredients tasted fresh, and the prices were very reasonable. While waiting, I learned the owner has been running Figgy's for about 30 years. The restaurant has that classic local lunch spot feel, with regulars stopping in and a friendly, community atmosphere. The restaurant was clean, had plenty of seating, and the service was genuinely welcoming. If you're looking for a local Chattanooga sandwich shop with great food, fair prices, and an owner who truly cares about his customers, Figgy's is absolutely worth a visit.

Since it was our first visit and everything on the menu spoke to us, she helped steer us in the right direction. I ended up ordering the pistachio croissant, and honestly... I'd go back for that alone. It was warm, huge by croissant standards, and absolutely heavenly. I even grabbed another one to take home because Future Me deserved a little happiness too. We also tried the raspberry lemon danish, which was a delicious combo, but the pistachio croissant stole the show without breaking a sweat. We started with the poutine, and while it wasn't the traditional version I've had before, it was incredible. Instead of cheese curds blocks, it came with pulled pork and melted cheese, and somehow it just worked. Comfort food with a little Southern flair. For breakfast, we had the ham and cheese omelet with breakfast potatoes. It was exactly what you want it to be--classic, satisfying, and impossible to regret if that's your usual order. I also tried the Liquid Gold juice. Their juice selection is impressive, but I may have accidentally found my forever order on the first try. It was so refreshing, with just a hint of ginger. For a hot drink, I highly recommend the London fog. I'm not usually a tea fan but if you don't want coffee, this is an excellent option. Before we left, we picked up some of their salted caramels to go, and they make the perfect little gift... assuming you have enough self-control not to eat them all in the car. The vibe here is upscale southern diner. One of the signs on the wall said, "All are welcome, but you need to act right," and honestly, that's the kind of life advice we could all use. I also really appreciated that parking was free. In Chattanooga these days it's hard finding a place where you don't have to scan a QR code, download an app, and pay to park just to eat. Great food, great atmosphere, great service. Milk & Honey is absolutely worth a visit...and if you're debating the pistachio croissant, stop debating and just order it. Your only regret will be not getting a second one.

We spent some time outside before being seated, but the food and service made it worth it. I stayed in my carrier throughout the meal and was able to join my humans indoors. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and never made us feel out of place. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was lively, and the service was attentive even though the restaurant was busy. Now for the most important part of this review. While enjoying brunch, I witnessed something I never expected to see: a baby goat riding around the restaurant in a pet stroller. At that moment, I realized Chattanooga may be one of the most pet-friendly places I've ever visited. Between the great food, kind staff, and unforgettable people-watching opportunities, Milk & Honey ended up being one of our favorite brunch stops of the trip. Dogba's verdict: Excellent brunch, friendly service, comfortable carrier dining, and unexpected goat encounters. Five paws !

While I don't live on the north shore, my daughter at one time did and today we visited one of her favorite spots, Vine Street Market, which has quite a positive reputation for catering size food portions, to the local community. Today for me it was pretty straight forward, one of soup and sandwich specials of the day, while my daughter ordered a soup and sandwich off their regular menu. Service was quick and friendly as we were a little ahead of the lunch hour crowd. Since it was too cool for us to pick one of the outdoor spots for our meal, we settled into a four-top in the back corner. Total seating whether inside or out is limited, so it's easy to understand why they do a significant carry-out piece of business. The soup was piping hot, and delicious. We didn't know and went straight to outdoor seating, which worked out because we got a table and about a minute later we figured out the ordering process. I ordered the chicken salad croissant for my wife, then the California club for myself and then I had to order quiche Lorraine for the table. I had filtered tap water for my drink and my wife had a can of Diet Coke with a slice of lemon and ice in a cup, provided. Service was pretty quick, between our order placement and table delivery it was 7 minutes. The quiche was custardy inside with a delicious hint of caramelized shallots to go with the bacon and cheese/egg filling. The bacon did not overwhelm. The crust was perfectly baked and a nice flakey crust. The accompanying arugula and onion salad dresses with oil and vinegar and seasonings was an excellent pairing of freshness with the richer quiche. This is a big hit, as expected when advertised on the menu as "available until sold out." The California Club was on 6 grain toasted bread with an avocado spread and aioli, bacon, turkey, tomato and lettuce. I really liked the balance of each component in this sandwich, such that nothing dominated the flavors and each distinctive was individually identifiable in the contribution to the whole sandwich. The portion was just right. The chicken salad was also good, but was the bronze medal winner compared to the other two. The croissant was flaky, but not too much. The chicken salad had just a hint of lemon and was not overwhelmed with aioli, just the right balance. This was a fantastic meal. We liked this so much, we chose to buy two loaves of bread to go, a Chattanooga Sourdough and a garlic Parmesan and also a 5 lb bag of in house ground bread flour. I need one of these in Greenville, SC, my hometown. Last thing to note, you bus your own table and there is a dish basin nearby the outside dining area in which to place your dishes. This was an excellent lunch spot. The staff were also friendly and patiently helpful. This is a must visit spot when visiting or living in Chattanooga!
