Ham and Brie
Melissa E.

River Street Deli is an absolute gem! I stopped in for lunch and was immediately greeted by the super friendly Italian guy at the counter who made me feel right at home. I originally wanted the broccoli and cheese soup, but they were out -- so he recommended the Asian soup instead, and wow, it did not disappoint! The broth was rich and flavorful, packed with veggies, noodles, and tofu -- absolutely delightful. I also asked him to surprise me with a sandwich, and he chose the ham, arugula, and brie sandwich -- it was out of this world! The bread was fresh and soft, the meat was top quality, and the brie with the sauce tied everything together perfectly. This is hands-down the perfect lunch spot -- delicious food, friendly service, and a cozy local vibe. I'll definitely be back!

The sandwiches are honestly not as good as the reviews suggest to be honest. The turkey sandwich is so so so plain, the "sun dried tomatoes" are extremely sweet and the bread is so dry it gets stuck on the roof of your mouth. If they had toasted it or something it would've been different, but it was so so dry and tasteless. The other ones we tried were alright, but nothing special or worth noting.

Elena Ruz - needed more strawberry preserves and a bit more cream cheese spread evenly. But pretty tasty.

Honestly, the sandwiches were not as great as reviews suggest, but I may have hit a bad (very busy!) day. The service was great and they apologized for the wait, which was only 20 mins despite a major event across the street and lots of customers. I got the Elena Ruz (turkey on baguette with cream cheese and strawberry preserves) and the rare roast beef (with boison cheese and mustard). These were pretty good, but could have been better. Both came with barely a swipe of the condiment ingredients and I think with better ratio/more on there, these could both be *fantastic* flavors. I also got the Chef Salad with "the works" Honestly, this isn't great as a salad, BUT it is *amazing* as a cheap way to get delicious sandwiches for the rest of the week! Seriously, I took this giant thing home, got some buns and condiments, and made about 5 good sized turkey/ham/roastbeef/cheddar/swiss sandwiches AND an egg salad sandwich, complete with very good mixed greens for lettuce on all sandwiches. Can't imagine trying to mix this into one mega salad, but as 5-6 good sandwiches, it's pretty economical!

The food we ordered was very good. We ordered the club special and white chicken chili. The chili had a nice spicy kick but not too spicy. The sandwich had plenty of meat and crispy bacon cooked just right. You order at the counter where the nice man had to offer us a menu because the white board showed mostly specials, not the full menu. The food came quickly enough. The dining area was old and dingy. Very friendly staff. The prices were fair. Worth a visit.

My fiancé and I stopped by for a quick lunch on our way to our weekend getaway in Blu Ridge. We strategically planned to stop in Chattanooga because we both love the area. I will give all the credit to him for choosing a wonderful place for lunch. Normally, I'm not big on deli sandwiches. I prefer them loaded with veg But this was a pleasant surprise. We were welcomed by who I assume was the owner/manager and he quickly helped us choose what we wanted to order. My fiancé loves a Cuban and they happened to have on left and their other special was a chopped Italian. We were able to order them cut in half and shared both. And both were equally delicious and definitely fresh! You can tell this is a great local hangout for lunch and folks were in and out the whole time we were there even though it was a later lunch. I'm so glad we stumbled across this place and they have changed my mind about deli sandwiches

A really solid, old-school deli. I like this whole section of Chattanooga by the water. Lots of diverse dining and shopping options and parking so cheap it's almost unheard of. Prices for the deli are fair, expect to pay for quality ingredients but not be gouged. I'd recommend the specials as they seem to know what they're doing there. When we recently stopped in while in town, I particularly enjoyed the turkey cranberry wrap I tried. Wait times can be a few minutes if they're busy, but you can see them actively preparing your order with fresh ingredients.

Daily special

Solid local Deli with great service. We both got the daily special and really enjoyed it!

What an amazing place to enjoy a sensational sandwich and to chat with the locals. We got to enjoy getting to know the owner Bruce and some of his amazing staff, Michelle, Libby,Mel, Dusty and Jeff. We went 3 days in a row for lunch and got the Specials everyday. 1st day was the Chicago Beef done wet and the Stromboli. Both sensational especially dipping in the Aus Jus. 2nd day was the Beef Brooklyn style and the Ham and Brie sandwich. Absolutely delicious. 3rd day was take out and we got the Italian sandwich and tortilla soup which was soooooo good. If I lived in Chattanooga I would be a regular. Great job BRUCE!!

This sandwich. Was the best sandwich. I've ever had. In my life. Staff was so friendly and makes it easy to customize your sandwich. 11/10 reccomend!

The Ruben sandwich I had was good. My husband had the Muffaletta. He said it was good. However, it came with an olive/ artichoke tappenade. My husband didn't know if he would like it and wanted it on the side so he could try it before putting it all over his sandwich. The man at the counter said if he didn't want it, he'd just take it off. I asked about the side so he could try it first. He reiterated that he would just take it off. He seemed a little irritated that we would make changes to a sandwich. The service was okay. The atmosphere was quiet, larger inside than it assists from the street, but very, very, dated.

Philly reuben

I had the philly reuben and thus was a perfect execution of this sandwich. So good. Highly recommend.

One time my parents and I came here after dinner for their gelato, and it was so delicious. We were all very impressed with the consistency and how smooth it was. So I've only had their gelato after all these years. This time I came for brunch with a friend on Sunday morning. It was packed and we got on the waiting list for a table. Wait time wasn't too bad actually. My friend and I both ordered the Hodgepodge Hash and I subbed the sausage for chicken sausage. Everything was absolutely amazing. I wish I had come here sooner. I loved everything about my meal. It was flavorful, dynamic, full of texture. It had that spice from the serrano peppers, crispy and flavorful potatoes, and the sauce tied it all together. I love savory breakfast, and that was it. Now I'm hungry and missing my previous meal just writing about it haha. Afterwards, we got gelato! I was pleasantly surprised that the gelato came with two scoops because I originally just wanted the coffee flavored one. So I had a scoop of Coffee + Cream and Pistachio. Our gelato was so tasty. I love anything coffee so this one was good, and the Pistachio one was nice and light. It had a subtle Pistachio creamy taste. Just as before, the gelato was smooth, creamy, and full of flavor. Service was great, our waiter was very friendly and super helpful with our food preferences. I have no complaints at all about our experience, and I love every single thing we ordered. I can't imagine a better place to spend Sunday brunch. I look forward to the next time I'm back, thank you!

Please take this review with a grain of salt. Today was probably not an exemplary day for Milk &…read moreHoney. Mother's Days are challenging, but I think where they hurt themselves the most is that they do not have a method to take reservations or even call ahead seating. Wait times were often in excess of an hour listening to other people waiting to be seated. That's a horrible experience on its face, and the management of this restaurant needs to do much much better or just close on Mother's Day. Next, we'll get to the food. I doubt it was a shining example of what they are capable of. I got the Shakshuka and it was mediocre. I'm not expecting it to be as good as what I would get in Tel Aviv, and I've had the real thing in Tel Aviv. But to be honest, the eggs came out nearly hard-boiled not poached. And the eggs are one of the stars of the show for this dish. If you don't get them right, the entire dish fails. Next will touch on the chicken and waffles. The observation from my tablemate was that it was dry and he didn't even eat it all. The same thing can be said for my other tablemate who had the chicken biscuit. The biscuit was exemplary, but the chicken was dry and actually overcooked. Then there were the omelettes, I don't believe they were impressive in any way and the people that ordered them agree. For those of us at the table that ordered coffee, it was rather strong. I normally like strong coffee, but this was borderline Turkish coffee, and there wasn't enough cream available to mask the potency. The service was also stretched thin. Our server, Destiny, did her best, but she was waiting too many tables. Having once been a waitermyself I have a special affinity for Service staff who are asked to do too much. We left her a good tip, but I'm sure she is capable of much better service than what she was allowed to deliver. Finally, the overwhelming crowd made the restaurant feel claustrophobic. The noise level was far too high, and we could barely hear one another at our table and we were sitting very close to one another. I don't place the blame on the kitchen, staff, or the wait staff, or even the greeters. This was a fail of management, plain and simple. They made no contingency plans for that many people and should have anticipated a larger crowd on Mother's Day. Management -I challenge you to do better!!! We will come back during a normal Service day to see if you can perform better, but I encourage you, as owners and managers, to stop setting your staff up for failure, which is what you did!

I also know from friends that it hasn't changed and it's been just as good. I don't come through this area often, but my friends wanted to meet up and have dinner here. Also the ambiance is so cozy and home-y! It felt like something out of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, some kind of fantasy tale. They were quick to seat us, because we were a group of 5 we had the bigger booth upstairs in the back corner. Though we were seated quickly and our group trickled in after a few minutes, it took a long time for us to put our orders in. I feel like part of it is the booth placement in the corner. We spent a couple minutes trying to look at a server for eye contact haha. I ordered the Veggie Burger, which I loved as a college student years ago, and a cup of the Butternut Squash Soup. Everything was absolutely delicious. The Veggie Burger was so tasty, it came with a side of chips and a pickle slice. The burger was hearty, flavorful, and had veggies like sprouts and avocado that tasted very fresh. For me, it was a hit back then and it still is a hit now. And I wasn't planning on getting the soup, but I saw on the menu that if it was the soup of the day then the Salmon Chowder would be priced differently. And Salmon Chowder is probably my favorite soup of all time. However when we asked, the soup was Butternut Squash which was a good one too. We got a round of 4 Butternut Squash soups for the table lol. I just got the cup and I loved it. And the bread too! I wish I had another slice because I finished that in a couple bites. Anyways the soup was so delightful, it was so cozy and great. I loved the added nuts sprinkled on top, it gave a nice texture with the soup. I feel like with Butternut Squash, people have their preferences about savory and sweet soups and sometimes Butternut Squash tends to be more sweet. But I feel like Yellow Deli nailed the balance between the two. Also I had a bite of my friend's waffle ... and I have to say that was definitely a Top 5 Waffle I've ever had in my life. It was just one bite but it was extraordinary. I'm not trying to exaggerate, it was just that good. They have great quality food here and nice service. I had to dock off a star because we were waiting for a good 25-30 minutes just to order when we were ready. Other than that, we had a wonderful time.

I also got a Gruyère Bacon Chive Scone and a Orange Pan Suisse to take on the road. Both were outstanding. For my drink, I got one of their Blueberry Basil Matcha. I was a little nervous about the basil, but I can genuinely say it was my favorite drink of my entire trip. Lastly I want to say a special thank you to the staff. We thought we weren't going to be able to find a table, but when we found one at the last second, they actually offered to switch my meal to a skillet since they can't do those to go.
