I'm currently standing in line for return and there are at least 20 customers in line. There is one young man checking all of us out. The inefficiency should be criminal. ‍ it makes me not want to shop here. I will say they have a very unique self check out that is efficient, but they are not directing anyone to that. In fact, they have a separate line for people that are only purchasing and the cashier prioritize those customers while the return line moves at a painfully slow pace. I ordered several items online to be delivered to the Glendale Galleria store, which was the only pickup option offered in the app. I expected a smooth wardrobe refresh. Instead, it turned into a month-long headache. My order was split into three shipments: - one arrived the next day - the second arrived two weeks later - the third never arrived, even after almost a month. Already a bad experience. Since I don't live nearby, after a month I decided to at least pick up the items that had arrived. I picked up one package without issue, but when I asked about the second -- which the app clearly showed as available -- a staff member told me it had been sent back because they "called me and I didn't answer." I never received a call from Zara. Why say that? I asked to cancel the missing order in person since I was standing right there. I was told they can't cancel orders in store and that I had to call a customer service number. Why would I need to call a number in New York when there's a staff member right in front of me? I called anyway. No one answered. When I went back to the store, the manager offered poor excuses -- explaining East Coast hours -- even though Zara customer service is supposed to operate until 7:30 PM EST. I needed help, not a lecture about time zones. No resolution was offered. The experience got worse when I tried to check out in the men's department. Two customers ahead of me had already been waiting over 20 minutes, with no team member present in the department. When the manager finally appeared, instead of helping, she asked, "Why are you standing here?" The customer replied that they were trying to check out. The manager said, "Don't you see nobody's here? You should check out in the women's department." When the customer pointed out there was no sign indicating that, the manager responded, "We're not allowed to put up signs." That's unacceptable. The assistant manager who wouldn't give her name, she was Armenian with long hair, was extremely rude like her Asian coworker. "You wouldn't buy these pants Lin this condition would you?" I really don't understand why this store is so popular. For selection, they have a variety of clothing lines such as formal, casual and accessories. For value, I would say the prices are kind of on higher end compared to other stores. My main issue is the customer service in this store. Most of the employees have a nasty and not friendly attitude. They don't greet the customers and they give weird looks or follow around the customers for no reason. Also, recently, they don't give receipts anymore. They ask for phone number and they text the receipt. Maybe some customers don't want to give their phone numbers and prefer paper receipts. Several items were placed on the sales floor, and when scanned, they showed $0, which was confusing. I asked for clarification, and the manager explained that these items are usually not sold, but she said in this case they would be sold as final sale, which I agreed to. Based on her explanation and approval, I spent a significant amount of time trying on the clothing and making decisions. When I went to check out, I was then told the items could not be sold at all. This directly contradicted what the manager had already told me. The situation was not my fault--I relied on the information given by management. I was discriminated against and was not allowed to return a defective item even though it was within the 30 day window. I bought a pair of defective heels and management refused to return it and made it seem as if I was the cause for defect. I only wore the heels one night then noticed they were defective. I work full time and I am a full time grad student, at the time when I bought the heels I was in an accelerated summer session so I literally had no time to go to the store. When my semester was slowing down, I was lucky that there was two days left before the end of the 30 day mark. Management initially gave me customer service number but because I work 9-5, I wasn't able to get ahold of them due to their hours of operation. When I contacted customer service next day, they ask if it was online or in store purchase, to which I told them in store. Without asking for any additional information they said we only handle online orders and told me to go back in store and talk to a manager. I returned to the store where they continued to tell me they don't handle products that are defective. Then one manager told me I defected it because I wore them once. Which is against their policy (I will attach a picture of their policy that states that if you wear a product and notice a defect to take it into the store). There's no way one night of walking in these heels would cause for the heel cap to come off. There was no adhesive on the heel cap. So my first experience with Zara was in Europe. My daughter feel in love with this store. They had a wide selection of different styles and the prices were pretty decent. Now that Zara is here in the US not sure how I feel about them. I have gotten some work pants and a couple of shirts but I find them to be a little overpriced. Especially when I can go to Nordstrom's Rack and pick up slacks for about $20 cheaper. As far as the service goes it's your basic sales clerk. No one went our of their way to help. The male cashiers are a lot friendlier than the female ones I discovered. The female ones I've encountered in the past in this store just glare at you when they're done with your transaction. No "You're all set!" and no "Thank you!" Today was a good day as the manager was present so the lines are more controlled, especially the credit card self check out kiosks. No "pissed off" yelling needed by any female staffer to the confused customers. This Zara store really needs to work on their signages especially for those darn self check out stations to the right. Fitting rooms are always crowded but probably expected due to location and brand affinity. There are so many designs on the Zara website that you cannot find here. We drove almost two hours to celebrate my birthday with dinner at Din Tai Fung. After that, we decided to browse the mall and wandered into Zara. We had no issues with the retail staff or other shoppers--our problem was with the loss prevention guy. As we were leaving, two men darted out of the store right as we did, and of course, they set off the alarm. We figured the security would stop them, but instead, they zeroed in on us. The loss prevention guy approached us in a demanding, rude manner, completely ignoring the two men who had just bolted. He didn't even introduce himself or explain anything--he just insisted we show him what was in our bags, despite the fact that we had already been shopping at two other stores. When one of us asked why he was targeting us instead of the men who actually triggered the alarm, he got uncomfortably close and tried to rummage through our belongings. We reiterated that we hadn't taken anything, but he dismissed us and continued to insinuate that we had stolen something. After we showed him our bags--revealing nothing but our purchases--he simply walked away without acknowledging his mistake or apologizing. So, just a heads up: you might get profiled by loss prevention here, as we did. Not exactly the birthday celebration I had in mind. What happened to this store? At one point this used to be my favorite Zara I went to get clothes and ring them up at the men's section. The workers were busy chatting and laughing and said that I need to go checkout at the women's side. I went to the self checkout and the new system they had was super confusing as all my items were miscounted as I was leaving they hired a non English speaking security lady who told me they had to check my bags when I mentioned the self checkout system is confusing the manager was very rude and condescending told me " I had to pay attention to the screen" when checking out. I bought a pair of men's loafers and I realized it doesn't go with any of the clothes I wear so I brought it back a couple days later to return but the lady said she can't accept it cause the bottoms were dirty like it was worn. I wouldn't be mad if I did wear them but the only time I wore them was at the store when I tried it on and in my room ONCE. It looked brand new and the bottoms were still white.
