I've been going to Zany's since I was a kid. It was always known as a reliable place for great food with fun decor and a menu suitable for any adult or child. Coming back with my husband after almost 10 years away, we were blown away by the consistency of this place over the years. He opted for something incredibly simple- the chicken strips with jojo's- and said they did it so well it was the best he's ever had. I ordered the stir fry with chicken & tried their sushi as well. Both were delicious. This place isn't just about American pub food! To round off a perfect experience, the staff was genuine, friendly and perfectly attentive even though the place was packed for the lunch rush. We had a very pleasant lunch on a busy Saturday. The staff is obviously well trained and incredibly polite. It was very refreshing compared to the average American eatery. The chicken strips are made in house and are probably THE best I've had. My wife ordered a sushi roll for us to share, which was delicious. (and we're picky about sushi) She also had the chicken stir fry and was very pleased with it. Given the size of the menu, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. Granted, chicken strips and JoJos should be easy, but the quality of the stir fry and sushi speaks volumes. I would feel good trying anything on the menu. It's obvious this is the place to go as they are very busy. However, we didn't notice any of the negative aspects of a busy restaurant. We had dined many times and loved it. Then we dined with all the family,9 of us. It was not busy by any means,it took us forever to get beers, our server was terrible, we swore that we'd never go back and complained.The management contacted me to try and understand what happened. Long story short he enticed us back our server was Maria we could not have asked for a better person to wait on us. She was on the ball and very prompt with a great personality. Craft beer always always makes it hard for me to ignore patronizing a restaurant. Sushi, in my mind, competes with Mexican food and hamburgers as food that I would choose for my last supper. So, I'm in Lewiston Idaho, assuming that my food choices would be fairly limited, but I open the Yelp app with hope in my heart. I travel all the time and I rely on Yelp for finding exceptional food like I rely on my refrigerator to keep my food cold, so I start to look over my choices. I see Mexican food and I see burgers and I see typical chain joints and I'm not terribly impressed. But, I do what I can to try to maintain some enthusiasm. However, I really didn't see anything that was that exciting. As a matter of fact I looked at Zany's and saw that they featured burgers, Tex Mex and sushi. I immediately thought this sounded like an amateur hour, try-to-please-everybody, train wreck of a restaurant. So the first night I'm in Lewiston I skip Zany's. The next day I'm wrapping up my day with my clients and I asked if they could suggest a decent place to get some food in Lewiston. They all immediately chime in "Zany's!" They say, "do you like sushi?" I reply, of course, but..." "Do you like beer?" "Of course, but..." "Do you like Mexican?" "Sure!" I say. "Well," they announce in unison, "You gotta try Zany's!" They weren't wrong. I walk up and see that there is a Boise Brewing tap takeover going on. There are huge TVs everywhere and the place has a energetic vibe. I grab a seat at the bar and I see folks are sitting around with raffle tickets in front of them like cards in a canasta game. So I asked the lovely, friendly face behind the bar what the raffle tickets are for. She announces that with every beer purchased you get a raffle ticket and a chance to win some of the Boise Brewing swag (t-shirts, growlers, hoodies, etc.). The beer was exceptional, the sushi was much better than I expected, and the staff were all sincerely friendly, talkative, and fun. I didn't try the burgers, but they looked interesting and tasty, and the Tex Mex looked good as well. A few weeks ago my family experienced some really bad customer service by one of the waitstaff at Zanys. Our food took forever, my beer was forgotten about and came out warm half way through our meal (which arrived cold) the waitress ignored us half the time, we asked for a refill that never came and waited forever for our check and togo boxes. She was great with everyone around us but with us, it was just bad, she wouldnt even make eye contact as she walked past us. I have no idea what her deal was, we were friendly enough. Anyway, I came home and wrote a message to Zanys about the experience. I was told they would look into it and get back to me. 2 weeks later and I have been dismissed. No more contact, no nothing. A few years ago I had a complaint about the quality of the sushi we had ordered. It was warm and looked like it had been dragged through a meat grinder. I thought they might want to know what was being given to customers so I contacted happy days to let them know. They got in touch with the manager of Zanys and said he would contact me shortly. A week later, no contact so I let Zanys know, they contacted him again...again no response. Im a pretty reasonable person, if you show me you care, apologize and try to make it right you will always have my patronage. The management at Zanys obviously couldnt care less about the service they offer, the quality of their food or their customers. I know we are just 7 people in a big pond but they have officially lost our business. At this point its debatable if any Happy Days restaurant will have our business. Sandwiches were good but small, and in my opinion, pretty expensive. $13 for a SMALL sandwich and 4-5 French fries. The decor was lovely and the atmosphere was spot on. The waitresses will walk around your table multiple times without asking any questions, so the repetition gets a bit much. Friendly staff and a nice place to have lunch. read more

This was the second time I have been there, totally underwhelmed both times. Today our food took forever and 3 of the dishes were either wrong, chintzy on add ons, or came 15 minutes after the others. We finally had to ask for it. Zany's is a decent place for a drink, but nothing much beyond that. They have a menu that contains a whole bunch or different cuisines, but the issue is that they don't do them very well. Zany's is an excellent restaurant for the family or even a date with the ladies and the environment compliments with this. The restaurant's theme which includes photography of celebrities and old movie stars, as well as many "antiques" hanging all around you. The booths are comfortable as well. Wonderful food that range from burgers to pastas, sandwiches to wraps, and even an excellent hispanic menu section. However, the it is a bit over-priced for what it truely has to offer. As a part of the Happy Day corporation (which also owns fast food places such as Arby's and Taco Time) it makes you wonder what really sets them apart from actual family restaurants. I have eaten at Zany's many, many times since it opened and have never been disappointed. They even served us efficiently during the last remodel. The new bar is comfortable and spacious with huge TV screens. My favorites are the chicken and beef fajitas. I really like the tortilla soup, also. All so tasty. I might like the decor more than others do as I can remember many of the movie stars whose pictures line the walls. It is fun to see how many I can name. I would like the restaurant to make a master list of the names (I remember seeing the list there a long time ago ) and perhaps have it laminated and placed at each table. That would be fun. Casual family restaurant with a fun, eclectic atmosphere. ..Toy train around the restaurant, lots of Hollywood pics, old Pepsi signs and stuff hanging from the ceiling. A fun party like atmosphere for families or groups. The food was acceptable...not outstanding (the pulled pork was more like chunky pork roast but the hula burger was very good). Zany's has a huge menu and is a decent place to take kids because of this variety. Unfortunalty, they lack in quality probably due to this large variety. Ok so it's really hard to find non-chain restaurants in Lewiston, Idaho. That being said, Zany's is a local restaurant that is pretty decent. I've ate here quite a few times and I'd recommend eating the food that goes with the 1950's theme (as it is usually the best). The homemade burgers are wonderful and juicy, and the bottomless fries totally makes it worth the price. However, if you want an ascetically pleasing place you may want to check that expectation at the door; the dated 1950's theme (popular in the 1980's) needs an upgrade in the worst way possible (don't worry it's super clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful).
