If this is the best Mexican lewiston has to offer I would go somewhere else. The food was hot, the place was clean but the flavor of ever dish was about as white washed as it could be. All of the dishes we had were devoid of much flavor or spices you would expect from Mexican cuisine. The quseo was band with no kick. The enchiladas were wet with very little flavor from the meat or from the sauce. I'm you love your food mild without flavor this is the spot for you else I would look for another venue read more

About a week and a half ago, on our journey eastward, we stopped into Lewiston for gas. It just so happened we spotted this restaurant across the street, and so we decided it was a good time to stop for dinner. We -- two adults, three kids, and a baby -- walked inside, and were immediately greeted with a welcoming smile. We were seated right away, at which point the server in our section (didn't catch her name, but she wore a Pittsburgh Steelers shirt) was there in no time at all to hand us menus and offer us drinks. It took us a bit to get ready to order, but she was more than patient with us, especially given how late we'd arrived. She took our orders, brought them out to us, and looked after us as though we were the only ones in the restaurant. Not too long after that, we were the only customers left there...and while we didn't want to keep them too late, there was no sense of rushing us out from any of the staff whatsoever. The service was stellar, and the food was fantastic! The restaurant is clean, cozy, and colorful! Neither our amazing server nor the hostess ever had less than a genuine smile on their faces, which was really nice. I also offer my compliments to the cook. We've been coming to this place for literally yeeaaars. Let me preface first, that in the valley there are limited "decent" places to dine out and therefore, we usually only eat out every 6 months or so and are not people who complain when our dining expectations aren't met. However, after this visit tonight we will NOT be going back. We ate here probably 5 months or so ago and my husband "usually" loves their chile relleno combo dish. However, last visit, he saw it was on *special* so he ordered it only to be disappointed that it was not made the normal way he was used to getting it when he ordered it. The waitress, at that time, told us that the *special* was made differently and if he wanted it made the regular way with the full pepper to order it in the main menu. Well, we remembered her advice this visit and ordered it in the menu like we were told. However, when he got his food there was little to ZERO pepper in the "chile relleno" literally we were able to find maybe 2 thumbnail chunks among the massive amount cheese and little egg. Again, my husband never complains but decided to bring this to the waitresses attention who just blankly stared at us as he combed his dish asking if she could see the relleno chile in it. She didn't say anything much and just left our table only to return a short while later with a plate and another "chile relleno". Again, he cut into the chile rellano and we only found maybe two tiny, tiny chunks of pepper in it. He wasn't wanting to fill himself up on a lump of cheese and little bit of egg so didn't eat either "chile rellenos" that were brought out. We asked if we could not be charged for the relleno because it wasn't made properly but were sternly told that he should have ordered the *special* instead because that one is made with the whole pepper. WTH?!?! Complete dissatisfaction with first of all their customer service and secondly their communication as to what is the right menu option to order. Just appalled at this level of business and customer service and quality control for a restaurant. Won't be going back. read more

I just ordered an order to go for lunch. I was told 15 minutes, as I live literally 3 minutes away, I got there early. My food was already done and sitting. I asked to purchase a 12oz cup of salsa in addition and was told she would have to take out the free cup out of my bag. I declined and she threw the receipt at me to sign and turned and walked away. Although it is known that Idaho isn't taking COVID particularly seriously, I came here to treat my dad to a Father's Day dinner. I was shocked to see that there was no effort in social distancing between tables (ok, whatver, it's Idaho), but what really got me was that our waitress was not wearing a mask, even when her face was directly over our food. She also was handling money and food at the same time (and no gloves, whatever, it's Idaho), the hot sauce on the table didn't seem like it had been washed since the previously customers, there were no discardable paper menus. They were not following a single recommendation besides a handful of a employees wearing a mask. Even keeping in mind that Idaho isn't taking covid seriously, there should be SOME minimal effort by the restaurant. If you are slightly worried about catching COVID, don't bother coming here. read more

I came to El Sombrero to celebrate my birthday. First thing I noticed? The cleanliness of the place! I always appreciate seeing employees walking around cleaning up floors and wiping off tables. It's a good sign. Our waiter was attentive and willing to offer suggestions. I ordered the veggie enchiladas, and I got a TON of food. I was really happy with my portion size! Food was way too sweet. Restaurant was clean and vibrant. I had pollo en mole, which tasted like Chinese sweet and sour sauce. Very disappointed. I had an 1800 silver margarita, which was definitely full of sugar. I wouldn't be able to drink a second one if I tried. The positives are the place looks awesome inside, and the service (from the wait staff, not the hosts) was great. The cut of the meat was good, I didn't have any gristle or fat. My First time coming here on a referral from a gal that works at the Casino in town. I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas my wife ordered the Green Chile Pork Burrito my friend who is Mexican ordered the Chile Colorado. All 3 of us said it was the best we ever had. My enchiladas the chicken was piping hot inside and the flavor was so good that I wanted to cry in tears of joy. Now I only wish this Sombrero place would open in Boise so I could eat here everyday. My wife still won't shut up about the Chile Verde in fact we have had Mexican 4 times in a week in Boise searching for anything even close to the quality and the taste as here. Making good authentic Chile Verde and Chile Colorado requires many steps and you can taste the difference when a place substitutes quality for speed. Horrible service will not go to again. I watch a group of people arrive after us receive their drinks and food, before we were even helped. We sat in our booth for about 25mins and only received chips and salsa. At which we had several employees walk past and or look at us, but not once did someone help us. This used to be our favorite restaurant. The food is excellent, but it is not safe to eat there now. The last time we were there: Waiter wore a mask, but the nose was not covered. Customers are not required to wear a mask and walked by our table (unsafe). Until masks are required we will not be back - it's not worth risking our health. Please require masks like Home Depot, Winco, and Big 5. Keep us safe. read more

I spend part of my year in Southern California and so I've got a pretty good idea of what constitutes good Mexican food, and this ain't it. In my opinion it's blah. If there is one main issue it's the food: generic, bland, dry. I had a chimichanga and salad. The salad consisted of what looked like the taco toppings bar shoved onto my plate. Well, OK, it is a bit like a salad. Except that everything was shredded. I used to live in El Paso, TX, so I get good Mexican/TexMex. It's hard to find up here in this region. I accept that.
