Zankou was a great spot to cater a holiday party. Ordered a week ahead of time for a weekend pick up. They even allowed me to pick up an hour earlier because I was in the area early. This location is crazy packed on weekend during the lunch rush. The order line was at least 10-15 deep. All the seating was full also. They have a separate pick up line for order aheads. Small parking lot in the back, you have to take a back alley to get into it. Very limited street parking in front. The person who packed my order seemed a little unorganized. I had to correct a few items that were missing. Also she forgot my 2 whole chickens. I realized when I was home and they offered me 3 when I came to pick them back up. Mediterranean Feast - $215 - Ton of food. Easily feeds 20-25. Kabob Variety Pack - $85 - Only 10 bucks more then the kabob tray but you get sides, veggies, and pita. Easily feeds 10-15. - Tried all 3 kabobs, the Chicken, Shish, and Lule. All were tender and cooked well. Shish was a little over done though. Whole Chicken was like any grocery store rotisserie chicken. - Shawerma was like shredded chicken, different seasoning then the kabob. - Falafels was dry on its own but with the garlic spread, very good. - Side, Hummus and mutabbal were good and well seasoned. Tahini was a good dressing. Tahini salad was just a normal salad with tahini spread on it. Tabbouleh was ok, not a fan of the flavor. Rice was just plain white rice, not buttery like I was expecting. I hate to leave a one star review because Zankou is a long time favorite. But today I ordered lunch to eat-in and waited, waited and waited. Zankou has never been fast and the Pasadena location seems especially slow. The order takers are pleasant and efficient, and the location is clean (but very dated). After waiting at least 20 minutes I asked about my order and was told that it was coming up. As I waited, I watched the guys preparing the orders casually put orders together, chatting and laughing. Plenty of other staff were behind the counter just ensuring they looked busy and avoiding eye contact with other frustrated customers. After waiting another few minutes I asked for my money back. I was craving chicken, and my usual spot California Chicken Cafe was out of the way. This place was a decent substitute. Very low key spot, and everything here was simple. Not many options, basically just chicken with a few sides. It's Mediterranean, so other options were falafel, kabobs and wraps. Their chicken was good! Super tender. Pretty much on par with California Chicken Cafe. Their portions are huge, and worth the price. I ordered a 1/2 chicken meal to share, and it was more than enough and only costs $11! (Doesn't include a drink, though). They also gave two huge slabs of pita bread and enough garlic paste to put a smile on my face. I'm a garlic lover... If there were more options, I'd be a happier camper. I chose tahini salad and rice, and it just wasn't great. I'm picky about my rice and it wasn't to my Asian liking. It's been a while and on the way home I made a detour and made sure I stopped in and reacquainted myself with this awesome food. I got lucky enough where it was somewhat late that I could park on Colorado and then walk right on in. I did get my food to go this visit. The wait was about 5 minutes or so to get my food. One of my favorite sauces is the garlic sauce that they have. It makes everything taste so awesome. The price wasn't "cheap" per se, but it's a good treat once in a while. There was a poster on the wall that said that they're open until 11PM now so that either be a seasonal thing or a new change that they made. Yelp 100 Challenge 2017 5/100 If I am in this part of Pasadena and looking for lunch. Zankou chicken is usually my go to. It's fast, healthy, and delicious. I've been to other Zankou chicken locations, the quality and taste is pretty much the same across the board. It is usually a good idea to call your order ahead, otherwise the wait could sometimes be a bit long. Their pita always tastes fresh and fluffy. The meat always well seasoned and cooked perfectly. I am hooked on the beef Shwarma wrap. It's a great size for lunch, super delicious and always hits the spot. Add some of their garlic paste and bam!.. best ever! Everyone here is friendly, and the restaurant it always full but well kept and clean. My biggest complaint... parking. They do have their own parking lot, as small as it is. I order food from here so often that Uber Eats and doordash crowned me VIP of Zankou Chicken Today I ordered my plate without grilled tomato but they took out the grilled onion and kept the tomato because it's my usual order HAHA. Anyways I always get the chicken kabob plate with salad and hummus. And a chicken wrap with tahini sauce inside. Can I just say, they have the best garlic sauce and hummus in Pasadena. But especially garlic sauce. When you dip the pita bread that comes with Chicken plate in the garlic sauce...mmmmm it is fantastic. Yes the food here can be pretty pricey but I think it's worth it. I like the bastami rice and chicken kabob. I've tried the shish kabob but wasn't a fan of that. They sell tubs of their garlic sauce so I need to get that next time. All of the pics I posted are from different days even though it's the same dish (chicken kabob plate, 1 or 2 skewers ($3 for extra skewer) depending on how bougie I'm feeling.) First time eating here! We ordered the chicken tarna plate, extra garlic sauce and the falafel special for lunch. Unfortunately we never received our falafel :( Either way, the chicken and garlic sauce/ toum were excellent and worth the collective high praise. Their hummus is pretty good. Not Dune good (another mediterranean place in DTLA & Atwater Village) but definitely scratch-made, none of that store-bought stuff that tastes flat. I steered away from getting the wraps as it seemed like a lot of people complained they were dry or stale. I warmed our pita for a bit in the oven to get around this.
