I've been ordering from Zankou Chicken for over 20 years, so it's disappointing to have to say that I won't be ordering in the future. Success breaks almost every restaurant, they raise the price, quality suffers, and what was once great becomes mediocre. Last night I received a tarna plate with dry tasteless chicken, that resembled cardboard, in fact cardboard might have been better. I also received falafel that were as hard as baseballs and again flavorless. I ordered a whole chicken to go. I asked the person taking orders if I could have a less well-done chicken. In the past I'd received overcooked chicken, and that request helped to get a properly cooked one. He said that wouldn't be an issue- that I'd only get an overdone chicken if I asked for one. WRONG. You can see from the pictures how dry the breast meat is. It turns to paste in the mouth when chewed. There were a few decent bites on the leg where it lay next to the body but that was it. Very disappointing. This is why I hadn't come here in ages. Garlic paste was great. Skin flavor - delicious. But I can get a bigger, juicy chicken at Costco for a third of the price. read more

Meh is how I would sum up my experience. I got the half chicken and a skewer of lule kebab. The plate came with hummus, two pitas that looked and tasted like they had been bought from a grocery store, and a small salad of pickled vegetables. The chicken was more on the dry side and didn't have much flavor. The kebab was good. The total came to about $45. Overall, i would probably not order the rotisserie chicken next time. Yelp does charge an extra $12 difference for ordering through them as it GrubHub. But other than that, the Glendale location seems to always have friendly staff and the chicken is juicy and fresh. What I do like that they're not stingy with any of their sides and utensils are available for grab.. The guy that took my order I believe his name was Michael or Miguel, and he was super friendly and answered all my questions and even suggested popular items. Long wait in the line and after order they said 10 minutes but after 15 minutes I ask if it's ready they said wait 3 minutes ok after 5 minutes it's not ready but customers ordered after me already receiving their orders. I have been patronizing Zankou in various locations for many decades. Up until recently, their rotisserie chicken was a favorite comfort food for me. But after several orders in a row of the rotisserie chicken were either grossly undercooked or just tasted bad, I've given up on that. Tonight I tried the chicken kabobs and they were awful. They were overly herb-y and actually a bit hot spicy -- nothing like I expect chicken kabobs to taste, in fact, they didn't taste much like chicken at all. The reason why I'm giving Zankou 3 stars? Went there twice this week because their new bowl items are amazing! Tried the chicken and falafel bowl with hummus and cucumber salad and it's always a hit. Food is fresh and it makes more sense to make your own pita with the bowl instead of buying a wrap. Highly recommend, plus the service is really quick and it only gets busy for the lunch rush. I have been coming here since i was very small. It has been several years since i had been in. I was greeted warmly by Angelica, she was patient and attentive to my requests. I was torn between the tarna wrap and a plate but she guided me to the wrap. I definitely was not disappointed. She was patient with my indecision and suggested i tried the harissa and it was delicious. The establishment was well kept. Overall good experience. But this location, i came to at 10:05 i had to clue that closed at 10. My brother and i walked in and a nice guy welcomed us and said, one second she will be right with you. He went and told her to come speak to us. After 15m at 10:20 still no one while i am standing, i. An see the girl on the phone but i am like what ever, she came. Finally after i asked the guys for the second time, is anyone going to help us Or what. She said while her phone on her ear, we closed at 10 what u doing here. I said we been for ur majesty to leave the phone and come speak to us, we had no clue when u close. This store is something else, in the best way possible. First the food is always on point. That's what you're coming here for right? Everything is exactly how you'd want it to be. I've tried pretty much everything and have never had an issue. Proteins, veggies, carbs , sauces all as fresh as can be. The prices are fair with today's current market. The store itself has plenty of seating with I feel like lots of space given the overall small size of the building. Very little parking with narrow spots. But there's a parking lot across the street that's always available. But it's the staff that has me in awe. In general customer service in most businesses has gone down the drain. But here from cashier to management the whole team is A+. I live nearby and go here often and the staff is always kind, courteous and helpful. I came in here a couple of nights ago and I couldn't say better things about the crew. In particular I was helped by Tigran, Max, Logan, and a lady I didn't get the name of. A customer came over to Logan and the lady and being a real person who witnessed it. They were being a jackass for no good reason and being overly demanding and rude and then basically kept asking for more and more and more garlic sauce to a comical level. And the crew handled it like angels. I told Logan afterward that he had the patience of a saint to deal with it the way he did. I am not quite sure what the issue seems to be, but either the employees do not read labels before making food, or do not know the difference between white meat and dark meat. I do not eat dark meat and on multiple occasions, even though I specifically request and PAY for all white only meat, have received mixed meat kabobs. Today I specifically called ahead after placing my order and said to please please please make sure it is white only. The woman assured me she'd speak to the cooks but when I received my order it was still half dark. When I called, she claimed that I was lying and that it was definitely all white (it was not) and while they did give me a refund, she had an attitude and didn't apologize at all. This is the third or fourth time this has occurred. I am not sure what the issue here is especially since I pay extra for white and have no reason to make a bigger deal about this than necessary, but I don't recommend this location in particular. Food is great. Fresh and consistent. I paid cash, and got no receipt. I was later counting my cash, and it was a dollar short. Last time they added extra $1 on the advertised price, calling it "All white." When I asked for explanation, the cashier didn't have an answer. The other cashier said bc the combo I was getting was two chicken skewers, instead of chicken and steak. I don't mind, if the price was correctly advertised. I originally ordered a few wraps and some rice the night before, unfortunately when I got home the order was not correct and was a bit disappointed obviously. The kicker was I threw my receipt away and paid with cash. I came back the next day to try and get things corrected and the manager Melissa was EXTREMELY helpful. She not only made sure to refund us for the previous error, but made sure to assist us with another order and complimented part of the meal. This type of service is in rare form nowadays, and working with Melissa was a breath of fresh air regarding caring customer service. Zankou Chicken is my favorite spot for rotisserie chicken - it's not always perfect: sometimes dry, too salty or other times mushy, but when it's done right it's omg it's great! Their garlic paste (TOUM) is the best around;request extras because they never give enough. I also love their hummus! The family meals are the best value and they offer a variety. Zankou is a family owned chain and some of their locations are better than others. My preference : Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, and Van Nuys location are my go to spots.
