Staff was friendly and service was quick. I ordered the limited time Lamb & Beef Gyro Platter ($15.95). Portion size was solid -- about half salad/lettuce and half rice with meat. The meat itself was actually really good and flavorful. Big plus that it's halal too. I added spicy pita bread for an extra $0.60, but honestly it just looked like they sprinkled spicy seasoning on top of the pita. Overall, the plate felt a little pricey compared to similar spots. Kind of basic and not super memorable, but still tasty enough that I finished everything. To be fair though, I was hungry. I never thought I'd be writing a negative review, especially after raving about this location for years. To preface, I still love Halal Guys and think the food tastes great--this review is really just about this specific location. As someone who has been going to halal guys in New York long before they expanded locations outside of the state, unfortunately I feel this place went from super generous and customer-focused to overly stingy and corporate. When I asked for extra onions, one of the workers told me he could only do a maximum of two scoops. Fine--I had no issue with that. What threw me off was that he then started explaining (more like lecture) on how they have to account for the extra cost of onions because it's additional supply they have to purchase... which just felt unnecessary. I would've been totally okay without the explanation, but after years of steadily increasing prices and smaller portions, hearing that just didn't sit right. Then when I asked for "less lettuce," the same worker made a point to tell me that doesn't mean I'd get extra rice. Again, I understand the logic from a business standpoint, but the constant (unnecessary) micromanaging and disclaimers really took away from the experience and made it clear that customer experience is no longer a priority. The first location I drove to it was closed, this was the second stop. The establishment was really empty and slow. Highly air conditioned so it was cold. Already they did not have tomato toppings and the scoop of meats was a bit skimpy. The servers in the assembly line would scoop the meat and then shake it off, like wtf. They limited the white sauce to two per plate and the packaging isn't the original yellow red design and it had more sauce in that one, The new one is just clear plastic and half the size. Hot pepper sauce isn't as spicy as before. Halal Guys just ain't the same as they use to be. Maybe too many Mediterranean joints out here in competition now. read more

Second time giving this place a try, hoping my first experience was just a fluke... it wasn't. The photo speaks for itself. I basically paid $18 for a plate that was 50% lettuce, 40% rice, and maybe 10% actual food -- a few tiny falafel balls, a super small pita, and a couple pieces of tomato. That portion vs. price is completely unacceptable. To make it worse, everything was cold and tasted like it had been sitting out -- definitely not fresh. When I get the itch and I'm at my place in Los Angeles I drive out the way to Glendale to get my chicken and rice plate. I get there today and I see this kid visibly stressed out.. (there's only one client in the store) ‍ I asked him if he was ok and he said he's doing his best but business is slow and shifts were cut So he's alone. Doing prep and sales. Understandable. This kid was extremely polite. He was so worried that the establishment couldn't afford to stay in business and his hands were shaking as he set my plate up (messed it up twice). I payed my 17-18 bucks for my ride down memory lane.. as I'm sitting in the car eating, I'm thinking look how many people are walking by. This establishment is supposed to be local fast quality street food. From one business owner to another. Hope things get better for yall. Set up outside, have a staffer handing out samples of some rice and chicken in a little cup with some white sauce and hot sauce. Offer the lamb variation. I guess this is a review for Halal Guys in general, not this particular location. The food itself is not bad, I think a lot of people have had Halal Guys and know what it is. They are known for their shawarma or "gyro" platters and their sauces. Under normal circumstances I would maybe give it 4 stars. However, they had been creeping the prices up to the point that it is now nearly $18 after tax for a regular platter by itself which I don't think is nearly worth it. Especially in this area where there are tons of shawarma spots on every corner that are cheaper, and in most cases better. This Halal Guys location has been good to us. Parking can be tricky with street parking and a small lot in the back, but if you're in Glendale and are craving it, it's a yes. We usually take our food to go, and the quality and portions have been good. They've been friendly and sometimes it takes a longer time to get our order, but it's worth it. This place has really declined over the years. I supported this business during COVID pandemic and spent a lot of money here.They used to give generous portions of protein. Now they cut the meat in small pieces and spread it over a large amount of rice. The store follows all social distancing measures and offers custom sauce levels for the white or hot sauce depending on your choosing. I've tried everything on the menu and it's a great meal to have on the go as it packs vegetables, carbs protein all in a balanced portion. The pita sandwich packs nicely to go and does not spill even when transporting to go. The platters come in regular or large. Definitely recommend the large as it is a big jump up.
