However, when my next daughter, FSIL and I started looking at venues...I kept thing about Maravilla, as I knew it was exactly what they were looking for. We talked about the past experience her sister and I had, and so at first did not want to consider the venue. But-I thought-maybe Jenn had a bad day the last time we were there-and we opted to give the venue a chance. I am glad we did. Jenn was very friendly, accommodating and informative. It was as if I was meeting a completely different person. My daughter's wedding here was in October-and it was absolutely wonderful. The venue is just gorgeous, the grounds are meticulously kept-and without a doubt the wedding coordinator Mel that is part of the package at Maravilla was absolutely OUTSTANDING. She made my daughter's day stress free and perfect. She kept everything on schedule and handled every/any issue that came up immediately. The Glam house is fantastic-but I do not like that they boot you out several hours before the event and give you a miniscule trailer for the bridal party. Only a few of our 7 people could fit in the trainer room at one time, there was only 2 seats. And we had to move all of our things there while we were only half ready. The food was very good, however we were forced to use their one caterer (Command Performance)...and while every other caterer offers a free tasting for up to 4 guests- Command Performance told us that since they were our only option, they would not do a 'free tasting' but would 'agree' to one for us @ $300 for the couple and $150 per additional person. The real rub was when my friend's son got married at the Gerry- you can choose your caterer from a list. And Command Performance is on that list-and they got free tastings. When we brought that to his attention, he said-"well they have choices of caters, so in that case, we will give free tastings". Pros: Beautiful setting Excellent parking Secure location Easy access Grounds are meticulously kept Fantastic support staff Coordinator Mel Glam room/house Lots of prop choices from her 'barn' Cons: Limited time in the glam house Extremely small trailer room for the bridal party after glam room Forced to use from their limited vendors/lack of competition allows them to take advantage of you Seems like many standard items have an 'extra' charge

The venue was perfect for wedding vision: my romantic, elegant, garden! The staff are all so nice. One of the biggest things that led me to book Maravilla Gardens, besides the aesthetic, was the glam studio! As the bride I didn't want to get in a car after putting on my dress and being dolled up. The glam studio is on site and available all day until a couple hours before the ceremony! It made the day that much more seamless to already be on site with my wedding party, family, and event staff! The venue also comes with a coordinator, Mel. If I could write a separate review just for Mel I would give her 100 stars. She was made to be a wedding coordinator. She was so thoughtful and attentive throughout the planning process. She handled the rehearsal so seamlessly and made sure everyone knew what to do on the day. When the chaos of the wedding day actually began, Mel was ON TOP OF IT. She made sure everything happened on time and without flaw. I literally had the easiest day/ night for a wedding- I didn't even know that was possible. She made sure my fiancé and I ate and got all the photos we wanted as well. She checked in on me but was never in the way. She was assertive but never rude. She was attentive but never a bother. She was absolutely incredible and I would hire her for every event I have from here on out if she is available. Thank you so much Mel! Love, Rachael and Faraaz

We were checking out their collection of exotic birds at the time. We tried to take our granddaughter somewhat recently and caught them on a day when they were hosting an event, so we didn't stay. Thankfully, the Camarillo Garden Tour featured this charming venue as one of their featured gardens in this year's event. It was fascinating to see how the property has evolved since we last spent time there. They have definitely made their primary space into a wedding venue haven with multiple garden "rooms", and a gathering space with dance floor and refreshments areas for the reception part of the special occasion. There is a small formal rose garden near the entrance for a welcoming space. The parrots and other tropical birds are no longer there, which is a shame from our perspective. I can imagine that they might be distracting for the wedding events, so there is a sense to moving on with retiring that aspect of the gardens. The owners were very gracious to have their lovely place serve as the spot where refreshments were served as part of the tour, plus the opportunity drawing prizes were displayed there, a small boutique, and a live band played to entertain the garden tour guests. We enjoyed lingering for a while. We also explored all of the main areas of the property. Delightful! The gardens have matured beautifully over the years, and the added artistic touches of lighting, stamped pathways with leaf shapes, and other charming elements speak well of the creative vision that brought this space to life.

When looking for a venue, we wanted it to be outdoors and breathtaking since both of us enjoy a special connection to nature. We also were not able to consider a destination wedding because many of our guests live locally and our love story mainly takes place in Southern California. For all of these reasons and more, Hartley Botanica became our venue. The team works incredibly hard to meet rising expectations and they definitely deliver. They are a dream team to work with and I love every step of the planning process. Planning a large event, especially a wedding is complicated and the team does their best to keep it simple and grant your every request. We are so thrilled with how our wedding turned out.

Love that we have a little gem like the Studio Channel Islands art center in old town Camarillo…read more I've walked by this building many a times and always was curious what it was like inside. I came for a gala event over the weekend where they rented this space and was excited to check it out. There is plenty of parking as they have their own lot and we also were fine with parking across the street in the free two hour parking spots. The art center is small but a great way to see local art and pottery. They do have single stalls bathrooms inside the studio which is appreciated. It also looked like in one room they had jewelry for sale but I didn't give it a proper look as I was more focused on the artwork and decor. The reason for the docked star is simply because we wandered in as a part of an event that had rented the space and thus there wasn't a whole lot of art on display. What appeared to be up is their around the year collectibles and some small art work pieces. It's definitely better to plan ahead to come here when they are actually running an art exhibit or have an event specific to the art center. At least we got to check it out and have an idea about the space now. Very cool to have a place like this in Camarillo and eager to check them out again in the future so I can leave an updated review.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Let me explain:…read more Some context: I mainly play Magic: The Gathering (MTG), so I stop by from time to time to pick up singles. Their singles and accessories are fairly priced, but their sealed product is definitely overpriced. As for playing in-store, it's hit or miss. Fridays are especially uncomfortable, but on other days, the environment is a bit more tolerable. Regarding the staff: From my interactions, it's clear some of the staff may be on the autism spectrum. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, I have family members who are autistic or have Asperger's, so I recognize some of the traits. That said, it can make interactions feel a little different. They sometimes miss social cues, which can make conversations feel awkward or even make you feel like you're a "bother," as other reviews have pointed out. Personally, I don't take offense to this. it's just part of who they are. Game selection and store focus: This place is heavily invested in MTG. If you're looking for Magic singles or accessories, you'll likely find what you need. However, don't expect a wide variety of other games. Despite the name "+EV Games," their offerings are very limited outside of Magic. I've seen a small selection of Pokémon and Lorcana, but nothing extensive. You won't find video games, board games, or many other trading card games here. Friday night experience: I've tried playing here a few times on a Friday night, and each time it was way too crowded. With the doors shut, it becomes hot, musty, and stuffy. The seating is also uncomfortable, the tables are lined up side-by-side like a cafeteria, which puts you shoulder-to-shoulder with players from other groups. There's no sense of personal space, and it makes for an unpleasant experience. It seems like they prioritize cramming in as many people as possible over player comfort. This isn't just my opinion; I've heard the same complaint from friends and other players at various LGSs. Even on less crowded days, the air inside can feel stale due to poor ventilation. I get that running the AC constantly can be expensive, but simply keeping a door open could go a long way in improving airflow and player comfort. Other concerns: I've heard from others that the owner becomes upset if you mention or wear branding from other game stores while inside. I haven't personally witnessed this, but it seems odd and unnecessary. In my experience, other stores don't have this issue. It feels like an insecurity or a personal trigger, but it also comes off as unwelcoming and even controlling. Everyone should be able to talk freely about their hobbies and experiences without fear of being kicked out. Final thoughts: If you're a Magic player and need singles or accessories in a pinch, this place is solid for that. They've got a good selection, and prices on those items are reasonable. But as far as playing here, if you don't mind a cramped, stuffy environment, then it might work for you. Personally, I think there's a lot of room for improvement. With some thoughtful changes, like more space between tables and better ventilation, this could be a top-tier LGS. Until then, it's just okay.
