I knew by the aroma permeating through my car's interior that I was in for a treat when I got my pizza home. I had called in and ordered Zaccary's Salty and Spicy Pizza which contains smoked salmon, anchovies, prawns, pesto, chilies and real mozzarella cheese. I was told it would take 35 minutes, and when I arrived on time, it was just coming out of the oven. Upon my first bite, I knew I had found my favorite pizza EVER. The chilies provided the heat and the anchovies brought the salt. Together with the amazing crust, I was in pizza heaven. I have rarely encountered such an amazing crust. Very crispy, but not at all doughy nor dense. It reminded me of the Chinese doughnuts served with congee, it was so light, crispy and fluffy. The smoked salmon and shrimps also shined through, despite the heat and the brine. Everything worked in concert to make an amazing pizza. Anchovies are an acquired taste, but even my wife who usually doesn't like them found this pizza amazing. If you`re like me and you typically indulge in the cheap $1.50 a slice pizzas, you may find Zaccary`s a bit pricey at $16 for a 10 inch and $24 for a 14 inch. But, after having eaten here, I may never be able to eat pizza anywhere else! read more

Thoroughly average pizza with unfriendly service. People who claim this is "the best pizza in Vancouver" clearly have low standards and haven't eaten much pizza. The crust is decent, but everything else is mediocre, plus he puts the pepperoni under the cheese so it doesn't get the nice crispy edges. If I was desperate for pizza I'd order from here, if I had cash, because it's cash only, but I'd just as soon eat Domino's or Pizza Hut. read more

Phenomenal pizza. The owner, Leo, makes all his pizzas to order, so be prepared to wait. If you decide to pick up the pizza, give it a good 30 minutes (40 minutes on Friday nights). It will be worth it. This isn't Little Caesar's or some 99c/a slice joint. It is a small, cozy, hole-in-wall with only about 4 chairs but this place is all about the pizza. As the other review stated, this is NOT thin crust pizza. Nowhere on Zac's menu/site will it even say that. This is labeled as "Heavenly Light Crust" and rightly so. The crust is airy and flavourful like a croissant, with crisp edges. I always get the Italiano Originale - an addictive blend of anchovies, tomatoes, basil and real mozarella cheese. My partner is faithful to his half-half combo of Zac's Special (spicy roasted chicken) and Salty-Spicy (smoked salmon and anchovies). The pizza is never smothered in tomato sauce, instead, it is just kissed with enough sauce to ensure that the flavors of basil and cheese aren't overwhelmed. We literally spend a couple of hundred bucks a month here and cannot stop eating this glorious pizza. I live in Richmond and will drive to Vancouver for this every time. My suggestion is that you try more than one type as it took me a couple of tries to find 'my pizza'. Now I'm hooked. Approx $25 for a large may not seem expensive...but when you eat one pie per person in one sitting it can add up. I'm 5'7 and 115 lbs and I eat an entire pizza to myself once or twice a week. It's that good. Try this if you want to get a real taste of Mediterranean-style pizza (the owner is Greek). NOT if you're looking for big-city/NorthAmerican style pie. I love NYC thin crust pizzas too, but we're talking apples and oranges here. If you like, you can come in to Zac's and watch your pie being made and chat with Leo! Our family of 5 walked here from our hotel (0.5 miles away) at 8:45pmish. They only have a 10" (personal size) and 14" (medium size) pizzas. My son ordered a 10" spicy shrimp and green onion pizza (weird, I know). The rest of us shared a 14" pepperoni and mushroom and another 14" ham and mushroom. The half mile walk back to the hotel was agonizing...the pizzas smelled so good. WOW...this pizza is GOOD! The crust is crazy good. Even my son's weird topping pizza was GOOD! His pizza reminds me of a shrimp fra diavolo. Even my picky 6-year old who only likes cheese pizza says the ham and mushroom pizza is GOOD. This pizza is pretty decent! Very light crust and not too greasy. I make my own combo with artichoke, green onion, and feta. They have very interesting flavour combinations to choose from too. It is cash only and last time I went they gave me improper Change so I guess they ended up with a $10 tip so watch for this. Hands down, the best pizza in Vancouver. And yeah, I've lived in NYC and honestly that town's pizza is over-rated. Ray's thin-crust is good on a budget, but it has nothing on Zaccary's. I used to live on Granville @ 16th and made frequent trips to Zaccary's, back in the day. It's a real gem in that neighbourhood. Leo, the proprietor, is delightful and you can tell he loves what he does - the food is reliably delicious and well-above average. Like him, it's got personality and isn't cookie-cutter. The crust is light and chewy, between thin (which can get a bit dull and cardboard-boring, IMO, after a while) and thick (not too thick, but chewy and light; yeasty, fresh, delicious). I love tasting the olive oil and the feeling of "squidge" that happens when the crunchy cheesey-bits on the crust sing in harmony with the olive-oil globules in the airy parts of the crust. Squidge: look it up. My personal favourite is the New York style, with tomatoes and mushrooms and pepperoni. I add the fresh roasted garlic to it and am a happy camper. If Leo could find it in him to add a white pizza to the menu - so hard to find in these parts - I'd be in heaven. I can easily devour a small by myself and no, I will not share it. This is the first time I've ever made a review. I cannot believe the rudeness of this guy. I've ordered from him a couple times before and the pizza is okay - but man, this guy seems to think he shits pepperoni out of his ass. I politely and gently asked for a veggie pizza with marinara sauce and he became a total ass saying "are you sure you have the right restaurant? You seem to think this is some kind of fancy restaurant, I'm not sure what a marinara sauce was (though he had an Italian accent) and then continued to berate me until I said forget it. Gads, are you having a bad day or do you just treat everyone like this? I suspect from the reviews it's the later. I will never order from you again and I will make sure no one else in this city I know does either. Seriously dude, I was just making sure it was a red sauce and not a white sauce. For Seinfeld fans, this is the Soup Nazi for pizza in Vancouver. This is a no no-sense kind of place, offering a great pizza and almost nothing else. The menu says they have pop, but I've never seen any there. It's a very basic storefront, most of it taken up by the prep area where the owner alone makes the pizzas and answers the phone. There are two tables if you'd like to eat there, but they're mostly for waiting to pick-up. There's a TV in there, but given it's location in the prep area, I'd say it's only for the owner to watch during downtime, not for customers pleasure. The owner is not quite as scary as the Soup Nazi but it's apparent that he is very serious about his work and takes great pride in it. You want delivery? "That'll be an hour." That's too long? Fine. "Next!!" So it's best to pick up. The pizza itself is quite unique. It's not the thick American style, nor is it the thin authentic Italian variety. It's kind of, in between. The crust is light and airy, maybe because of all the olive oil they apparently use. It's the sort of crust you'll actually want to eat even on its own. The toppings are varied but all fresh and quality ingredients. Maybe calling it healthy is a stretch, but when I have pizzas from here I hardly feel like I'm straying from my otherwise healthy diet. read more

Given the quality of pizza in Vancouver, I should probably give this place 4 stars, but I just can't bring myself to. The ingredients were indeed quality, and the sauce wasn't objectionable, which is verging on high praise in the Vancouver pizza scene. The crust was too fluffy for me, though, and with the quantity of toppings piled on, that meant it was approaching soggy and floppy by the time we got it home to my friends' place (only a few blocks away). So, it is certainly better than most pizza in town, but I can't call it great. It's fine. If you're in the neighbourhood, and don't mind shelling out a bit, you could certainly do worse. Like a lot of other reviews here i have been a fan of Zaccary's for years. My favourites are: Zaccary Special; chicken and lots of whole roasted garlic Thai Shrimp: pesto sauce and spicy shrimp. The crust is different than other places, more of a bread than a crust but delicious to the last bite. Usually round out the order with a greek salad. More expensive than some other places but always worth it. If you oder delivery plan ahead as it takes longer than the corporate joints. I have been a customer at Zaccary's for years. Every time I come back to town, I have to grab a pizza here, my favorite in town. Why? I love their crust, and not too filling so I can eat a whole large myself! There are other good styles of pizza in town too like Marcello's on commercial but although this place is not a sit down place, I usually try to eat here. I walked into the restaurant at 5:20 and ordered two small pizzas to be delivered to my place 2 blocks away... at 6:55 the guy shows up at my place and $35.50 plus tip for $40, i had two small pizzas. Are they good? Yeah they are okay. Not mind blowing. I get their "light" angle -- their crust is like pan pizza but only it is lighter. Tasted good. Would I order again, probably not. Was recommended by few friends and have been meaning to try it for some time but never got the chance until last weekend. We ordered over the phone 2 pizzas: Vegetarian Executive and Salty and Spicy. Since we were told to expect the pizza at Zaccary's to take little longer to prepare than usual, we allowed a good 1 hr from the time we order before going to pick it up. To our surprise, the pizza wasn't ready, and it was literally about 2 hrs from the time we order before the two 14" pizzas were ready. The pizza tastes great: the sauce was delicious, the toppings combinations, and the crust was fluffy but great. All in all, great tasting pizza, but given how extremely slow the service is and the fact that the pizza is not exactly cheap, this place gets 3 stars. read more

Our new favourite pizza in town -- so good that it makes it hard to think of other pizza joints as alternatives. The crust is phenomenal, though a bit different from your usual crust so I imagine it won't be for everyone. It's a bit chewy, not too thick (but not a typical "thin crust" style) with a very puffy rim that has the delicious pockets of olive oil others have noted. These aren't pools of oil - -more like a very light dusting, but sooo good! The toppings themselves have ranged from delicious to unexceptional. Our favourite is the Italiano Originale -- it doesn't sound especially interesting, but it has truly excellent flavour. This isn't what you'd consider a kid-style pizza, but our children are happy to eat the plain cheese pizza and they don't eat just any pizza you hand to them. The only thing that keeps Zaccary's from being a regular order is that delivery to our place (in Kits) is very slow -- a bit more than an hour. But if we lived closer (so that delivery was faster or so we could pick up) I doubt that we'd order from anyone else. read more

Happened to be on yelp and saw the reviews for Zaccary's Pizza. Just had one of the best pizza's. Crust is light but the pizza is filling and very flavourful. Some of the best pizza I've had the pleasure of stuffing into my pie-hole. The ingredients are always super-fresh and the crust is simply AMAZING! It does take awhile for an order to be completed, but it is completely worth the extra time. And whoever has mentioned this as being the "Seinfeld Soup Nazi" of Vancouver pizza, I disagree! Nice pizza although a little soft. They charge an extra $3 to do half and half. Then when they delivered the pizza - a 5 min drive - they slapped on another $3 delivery charge (cheeky). The prices are already steep so the additional gouges were just taking the p@%s. For that reason we won't be back. read more

The pizza is, as they say, the bees knees. Oak St special is the way to go. Greek style base is more 'bready' than the Italian but that's what makes it great. This is probably the best pizza I have ever had. They have a pre-set menu with combinations that will make you drool. It is neither cheap or a ton of food, but I would be willing to venture saying that it is the best pizza I have ever had. I got the Mediterranean and my boyfriend got the Thai Shrimp. Who knew shrimp on pizza could be so delectable. If I am ever back in Vancouver, I will certainly make a point to come back here. read more
