And I'm glad we did. There was plenty for us to split and it came with a bag of chips. So yes, plenty. The Dip was hot and roast beef very tender. Good ajau sauce. Great light lunch. We didn't know their hours but they quit taking orders at 3:00. We walked in at 2:45. Got great service and food fast. Next time I'm gonna get ice cream too.

You get to see the machinery and engineering involved in filling and packaging those familiar Blue Bell gallons and larger containers, and WOW. What a system! I've bought Blue Bell for years without giving much thought to what happens between "let's make some ice cream" and that container appearing in my freezer. There's a whole lot happening back there! Afterward, we headed into the Country Store and picked up a few things for loved ones. And here's a little detail I absolutely loved: if you buy an ornament featuring one of the ice cream flavors, they package it inside a container for that particular flavor. SUCH a cute touch, and it makes an already-fun little gift even better. Of course, you can't come all the way to Blue Bell and then leave without eating ice cream. That would just be poor road-trip management. We wandered over to the Ice Cream Parlor and deliberately chose flavors we'd never tried before, including some we don't see available in stores. Because if you're standing at the home of Blue Bell choosing the same carton that's already sitting in your H-E-B freezer, I feel like we've missed an opportunity. And don't leave without checkin out the Texas High School Coaches Museum downstairs! That was an unexpected addition to the visit and really interesting to walk through. All in all, this is one of those stops that's easy to add to a road trip but offers enough to make it feel like an actual destination. There's something wonderfully Texas about the whole experience -- family, history, engineering, souvenirs and, naturally, ice cream. If you're anywhere near Brenham, stop. It's absolutely worth the detour.

If you're looking for unique sandwiches, pizzas or something sweet, this is a great place to stop while in Downtown Brenham. Quick service and abundant seating make it an excellent choice for lunch; but, it can get busy, so arrive earlier. Or, check out their extensive selection of candies and ice cream in the adjacent parlor while you wait for a table to open. Even the ranch was served in a condiment cup lid rather than a sauce cup. The highlights of the meal were the onion rings, fries, and the bread used on the melt. Unfortunately, those sides couldn't make up for the quality of the burger itself, which was the reason we came. At first, I thought she was the only server working, so I was patient. However, I soon noticed there were other servers on the floor. It still took over 20 minutes before she came to take our order. We ordered the Farmhouse breakfast with biscuits and sausage, a kids' Farmhouse with pancakes, and breakfast tacos. Nearly 45 minutes passed before our food arrived. During that time, my coffee never came, and no one checked on our table. When the food finally arrived, my order was wrong. I received toast instead of biscuits and bacon instead of sausage. Lauren apologized and said she would bring the correct items, but they didn't arrive until we had already finished eating. To make matters worse, when I asked to speak with the manager, no manager could be found. I understand that restaurants can get busy, and I'm usually very patient. What was most frustrating wasn't just the wait, but the lack of communication, urgency, and basic customer service throughout the meal. It's unfortunate because The Gathery is a small business that I'd like to support, but experiences like this make it difficult to return. Based on this visit, I won't be coming back, and I can't recommend it to others. I hope management addresses these issues because the food has potential, but the service fell far short.
