    Don't be fooled--there's no soup!!
    Mary L.

We stopped here for lunch, just passing through. My guy wanted soup, so we were glad to spot this place, with the sign outside advertising, "Pizza Soup Sandwich." We got inside, stood at the front counter to order, but couldn't find any soup on the menu. I asked the sullen-looking woman behind the counter if they had soup, and she looked at me like I was stupid, like I'd asked for something hopelessly exotic. "No, no soup." "Then you might want to change that sign outside that mentions SOUP, several times." Her wordless response...well, I'll just say I doubt there will be any sign changes. We ordered a couple of sandwiches, but I committed the terrible sin of asking that my crispy chicken be served on any type of bread except for brioche, which I dislike. She looked exasperated and whined, "But I already put it in!" (To her computer) By now, I was getting annoyed. I told her, with a touch of sarcasm, "Maybe there's a human in the kitchen, and you could just *tell* them my request...you know, like, *verbally*. Now she really hated me, and told me there would be an extra charge for the swap. By now, I was in full sarcasm mode and said, "Oh my GOD, an extra CHARGE?!!" She didn't add the extra charge, probably because she'd already "put it in." Our sandwiches were good, and my crispy chicken was on Texas Toast, as God intended. The woman who brought our food was very nice, and the shop is interesting, with all sort of doodads to look at. Just don't ask for soup!!!

I desperately wanted to love the food here because this place is just esthetically fun and awesome. Located in the heart of Brehnam and in the quaintest part of Texas.. Such a lovely visit and highly recommend the area. As far as their food goes.. I did not have the best experience. However, I did enjoy their next door dessert which really brighten the experience as far as food goes. Everything closes at around 3 or 4 here on the weekends and then reopens around 5. We were basically here at a weird time so we decided to give this place to try. I ordered a glass of red wine and Ordered their BLT sandwich. I couldn't help but feel that the BLT is something that I could have made in 15 minutes in my own kitchen. Pretty dry and not the greatest. My mom tried their pesto chicken sandwich and the chicken was so dry and rubbery that she couldn't even eat it. Unfortunately even down to the chips that they serve are very peppery and super oily. On a more positive note, we loved the candy/ice cream shop next door. I bought some golden girls inspired mints and a couple of other candies that brought some nostalgia to my day. While I nay have not had the best experience with their food, the desert side of yumm definitely saved the experience! Super fun.

    The daily special

My dad and I were passing through Brenham which is where my grandmother lived when I was a child, so it's a very nostalgic place. Downtown is quaint, charming, and thriving. My dad selected Yumm! because he had been before and had a good memory of it. We both ordered "Kayla's Special" which consisted of a grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough bread with provolone, mozzarella, and homemade pesto, homemade tomato bisque, and a drink. The grilled cheese was the star of the dish. The cheese combination was superb and made for a great cheese pull. With the grilled sourdough, it was light and crispy and the pesto was aromatic and herbaceous. I love pesto and am a fan of their homemade version. My least favorite was the bisque. It was just on the border of being too rich. Even with dipping the sandwich into to it didn't lessen the richness. However, the fresh basil garnish cut through it and added a great depth of flavor. I'm still giving 5 stars because the soup was still delicious, and I ate it.

Only place we tourists could find open after 5 and before 5:30. We just wanted a place to drop, enjoy a refreshing beverage and check messages. Nice people, larger menu than I expected, many choices of beer and wine, cool and quiet. I got my sandwich to go, and it was every bit as good as it looked. We will be back!!

When I say surprised, cheated and floored that we didn't notice the change in restaurants in the year and a half they've been opened! The servers were first off some of the kindest ones. Each of them that came to our table we're awesome. This old lady didn't catch the name to our server, but he deserves extra points for answering all my questions and allowing me to take menus back to the hotel I work at! My hubby and I weren't starving and we decided to share a small plate and one main dish. The Mozzarella Tartine had an excellent taste. N ended to be less charred. A bit difficult to cut into with a butter knife. The Steak Frites my friends was one of our top favorite piece of steak we have had since moving to Texas 26 years ago!! We could cut the meat with our forks. The fries were perfectly seasoned and crisp and that aioli -- I will take a bottle! Restaurant had perfect lighting and truly classy looking decor. This is a place you need to bring your significant other or best friend and enjoy. We were told that their lunch menu basically stays the same, but their dinner and brunch menu change on occasion and last night was obviously their special occasion menu.

However, we felt like our food was just OK. We got the calamari and there wasn't anything unique about it, but it was good. My Caesar salad was a little odd. It did not taste like Cesar at all. The lasagna was just ok. We were quite disappointed in the chicken fried steak. It did not seem like it was seasoned at all, the batter was very bland and unfortunately, adding salt and pepper didn't do much because it would've been better if the batter itself was seasoned. I would return to this location, but maybe not have my hopes up so much to have a good meal. The prices are fair for what you get.

We could hear how he spoke to other customers too. We did actually get our water refilled from one of the other staff. The server didn't offer us any dessert. We felt rushed to leave. I always try to be supportive of small, locally owned businesses everywhere I go. Look at some of my other reviews, it will bear this out. For once, it wasn't a Sunday when we were passing by and we weren't in a hurry, so we thought we'd stop for lunch. It looks like everything you'd expect for a barbecue restaurant. Everything rustic and country. There was a menu painted on the wall with no prices anywhere. They have a nice selection of sides in meats. My wife ordered the 2 Meat Plate with Brisket and Sausage, Potato Salad and Pinto beans. I was thinking about Pork Butt; however, when I saw it , I decided to pass. Strike 1! I ordered the Brisket Plate with Black -Eyed Peas and Coleslaw. When the young woman handed it to me, It had Pintos on it rather than Black-Eyed Peas. When I cited the error she indignantly snapped, "That's what you ordered!" Strike 2! (who argues with civil paying customers?) I said, " I'm not trying to be any trouble. I just want what I ordered." at which point the older woman told her to give me a side of Black-Eyed Peas, which at this point seemed completely academic. We found a table, found our way to the drinks and also to the Barbecue Sauce and various condiments. I really wish I could say that this was the best Barbecue that I ever put in my mouth but unfortunately, I have to say just the opposite. Strike 3! This is singularly the worst barbecue experience that I have ever had anywhere in Texas or elsewhere in the country. The Brisket was gray, dry, and there wasn't a smoke ring in sight. It was no better than the Pork Butt had looked to me, in fact it was probably worse. My wife loves Sausage and she is not as discriminating about it as I am, but she said that was the worst Sausage she ever bought from a Barbecue Restaurant in her life, and she's the lifelong Texan in this couple, not me. I see mixed reviews out there besides my own and I'm wondering if perhaps the problem here is just inconsistency with the food because other than that and the little service blip, this wasn't a horrible meal but it was pretty far from a good one. Sorry Nathan's, I so wanted to like you.
