3.5 STARS Yume Mori Matcha is the IT girl...in the bay area social media world. She's hella photogenic... Vibrant, electric green beautifully layered with milk, fruit puree, and foam...served in a cutesy, petite cup adorned with garnishes. And, her brûlée top crepes? A head turner. But, she'll make you go broque! $28 for two small matchas in a college town is crazy work so my expectations were high. D R I N K S You can choose your own matcha profile (mie: floral or shizuoka: umami) that's hand-whisked to order. They use agave as sweetener. * Strawberry Ichigo: Strawberry Matcha Latte ($7.95) - Choose "mie", less sweet, oat milk - Add extra shot of matcha (+$3) Very pretty drink, the matcha was bold and bright but on the watery side. The strawberry puree was tart so there was no sweetness to balance the matcha's earthy bitterness. * Double Matcha: Matcha Latte w/ matcha foam ($7.95) - Choose "shizuoka", less sweet, oat milk - Add extra shot of matcha (+$3) - Highly caffeinated: 300-350 mg Perfectly smooth with a savory umami...you can taste the quality of the matcha but it was on the watery side. I didn't realize until after we left that they forgot to add the creamy matcha foam. =( S E R V I C E Contactless ordering via two kiosks. Default tip is 18% - I usually don't mind to support working students but there was zero interaction with the staff...no greeting...no "thank you". After ordering, drinks took 20 minutes (received a text when it was ready). A M B I A N C E Modern, minimalist...very cramped inside with the crowd of customers waiting for their order (no tables). There's several small tables on the sidewalk. Overall, with the hype and visuals...not to mention the price, I was expecting to have one of the best matcha lattes ever at Yume Mori (I prefer Binge for the price point). The matcha quality is def there but I feel like the ratio of water to matcha is off and/or maybe it's the oat milk brand but I prefer a creamier matcha latte. P.S. - Crêpes are available Friday-Sunday from 12 pm - 5 pm. Soft serve available every day from 12 pm - 5 pm.
I had high hopes for Yume, but I think their strength is in their desserts, not so much their balanced matcha drinks. I ordered a regular matcha latte, but the milk and light sweetness still overpowered it. I do think it is worth checking out if you enjoy a sweeter matcha. I like a very strong matcha tea flavor so that's why I was underwhelmed. I did hear afterwards that their hojicha was worth trying so I still want to give it another chance.
I've gone to Yume Mori a few times now and the quality has been consistently good every time. The matcha is creamy, very aesthetically pleasing, and the hojicha is also really delicious. When I get the tiramisu matcha I always end up getting an extra Biscoff cookie because it's so good with the drink. There isn't really seating inside but they do have a few small tables outside. The interior itself is really cute though and as someone who loves plants I really appreciate the greenery it brings to the space. I still need to try their crepes next time I go. I just wish the drinks were a bit bigger for the price because I finish them way too quickly every time
Such a great spot, definitely one of my favorites so far! I originally came for the matcha but the hojicha completely stole the show. The cafe is small with a bit of outdoor seating. There wasn't a wait when I arrived, but a line started forming shortly after. We tried the matcha tiramisu, hojicha tiramisu, and strawberry matcha with strawberry foam. The strawberry matcha (we chose koku) was good, but the hojicha (we went with uji) was the standout!! Super smooth with a rich and nutty flavor. Honestly, I wish I ordered 2 hojichas Next time, I definitely want to come back to try their crepes!
Super cute little spot! I got the hojicha tiramisu and it was super tasty. I will say the drinks are a little pricey for the small size, but you can tell they use quality ingredients. It's very small inside with no indoor seating, but there are some tables outside. They have a station on the side where you can sweeten your drinks with agave which I really appreciated! I'd definitely come back to try the crepes.
It's truly difficult for me to give this place a full five stars because there are now 3 other matcha places that popped up in Berkeley around the same time and one will reign supreme in my mind. I will likely have written a review about this place so I'll save my opinion/the name of that tea spot for that review. I have to say going on a non-opening week and on a weekday, lines were much shorter. I was grateful because the last time I must've waited 15 minutes longer for my drink. I went on a Monday afternoon around 11am and there was maybe 2 people ahead of me. I ordered on the kiosk and got a small hot hojicha with medium sweetness. I think I got a cold drink last time but I honestly don't remember. I really enjoyed my hojicha and the cup was so cute! I think this spot would be my go-to because it's walking distance to my house.
I had this matcha place on my list for so long and finally tried it last week. I got the tiramisu matcha latte with their Koku matcha. Definitely recommend Koku Macha to anyone who likes nutty and less bitter matcha flavors. They had alternate milk options too. I really liked their concept - there was a large matcha making station where 4-5 matcharistas were whisking matcha. See you see everything live in action!! They also serve crepe cones and soft serve. I did not try those but they looked delicious! I must say this is a very popular place since there was a long line outside and a lot of people crammed up inside as well. It's a very small Matcha shop so there was just like very tiny benches inside to sit on for a few people without any tables. They did have some outdoor seating, but it was extremely sunny to be sitting outside. The price was a bit crazy, but I guess that's a standard now for matcha latte with oat milk. I would say this is a good place to try if you're looking to try different types of matcha powders in your Matcha lattes.
I can tell the quality of the matcha was good, however it tasted a bit bitter and could use a bit improvement on the drinks. Not sure if it's the type of matcha I ordered either that could be the reason, but I ordered strawberry matcha. It's also. Around $7-8 for each small cup. Very small inside but has seating outside!
Went around lunchtime and the wait wasn't too bad. Drinks came out pretty quick, especially since they hand whisk everything. You order through a kiosk, but I'm sure the staff would help if you needed it. I got the matcha tiramisu (no biscoff) and upgraded to the koku blend. I'm usually not a matcha person, but I actually really liked this. It didn't have that strong grassy or bitter taste I usually don't like. It was pretty smooth, and the matcha flavor was strong but not overpowering or grassy or bitter. Will say I didn't really taste the tiramisu part, but it definitely tasted more than just straight matcha. My friends liked their drinks too. It's a bit on the pricier side, especially with the upgraded blend, but you can tell the quality is there. Would come back to try their crepes next time!
Yummm!! I liked that you can choose your matcha and they break down the flavor profile so you know exactly what you're getting. I got a matcha latte with strawberry foam and the matcha flavor really came through, super umami. The strawberry foam added a nice balance. The line can get long since you order through a kiosk and it takes kinda long to go through the options but it's worth the wait!
Don't hold your breath. The wait is incredibly long with very little seating. It is your typical berkeley shop, overpriced food that tastes okay at best, preying on the university kids. Waited maybe 20 mins. Got - strawberry matcha latte - creme brûlée crepe I did appreciate their variety of matcha options. A very cute interior, but no air circulation, more of a grab and go or sit outdoors. Matcha Latte was okay, a little watery, nothing crazy worth $7-8. Crepe was interesting, you don't see one filled to the brim with creme brulee often. Honestly, no complaints, they give a good portion and it's a pretty treat. Creme brûlées might just be too sweet for me, so I dont think it was on the shop and I applaud their creativity.
Wow I love this place! I tried their double matcha with the Koku matcha (+0.50 cents) and oat milk (no extra charge) and loved it so much! It was so smooth and delicious! A little sad the cup is so small but overall such a good drink! I was devastated when I got to my last sip of my drink. I definitely want to come back and try the other drinks as well! The crème brûlée crepe was pretty good too! Surprisingly not too sweet and also soft and light. Very little seating inside, but there are about maybe three small tables outside. No public restrooms.
I've been wanting to try Yume Mori for a while, and I'm so glad I finally did! Yume Mori Matcha offers a great variety of drinks and desserts, and I love that you can choose from different types of matcha and hojicha to customize your drink. I ordered the Lychee Rose Matcha, Tiramisu Matcha, and Ichigo Crepe, and all were delicious! The Lychee Rose refreshing, while the Tiramisu Matcha had a nice creamy depth. The Ichigo Crepe was perfectly balanced with fresh strawberries and a soft, chewy texture. Portions are quite small compared to other matcha cafes though. I really appreciated that they hand whisk each matcha, and the staff was quick and efficient even though it was quite busy. The space is bright and minimalistic, but seating is limited. Overall, a lovely place for matcha lovers and anyone who appreciates quality Japanese-inspired treats!
Modern minimalist shop that sells a variety of matcha drinks. Another solid matcha spot, I tried the double matcha and I could taste the matcha flavor. What makes this place unique is that you can choose from four different styles of matcha powder to make your drink. I followed their recommendation and asked for less sweet. You order at a kiosk, and the drink came out fairly quickly. The only caveat is the price: $8-9 feels a bit steep given the cup size. Street meter parking is available. read more

Checks all the boxes, but not particularly memorable. Strawberries were fresh, cream had a good mouthfeel to it, and crepe was light and fluffy. I keep tasting grass in the matcha drinks which is not to my liking. read more
Such a delicious and creamy matcha latte! One of the better ones I've had, even though the cup is so tiny I still think it was worth the $8. You are paying for quality here. There was quite a line on a Sunday afternoon, but it moved fairly fast. I wish there was more than one tablet for ordering since people tended to take a while on their order since it requires customization of which matcha, etc but the drinks itself came out pretty quickly after we ordered. I got a tiramisu matcha latte with Koku (+50cents) and it was a perfect pairing. We also got one with Yuga matcha, but it was too creamy and milky for my liking. Saturday ~10 am was slightly busy but not too crowded. If you want a drink that is aesthetically pleasing to post on Instagram, this is the place. The concise menu has matcha and hojicha options. If you are new to hojicha, it is a flavorful, nutty, roasted drink that is not as caffeinated as matcha. If you do not enjoy matcha and would describe matcha as "grassy" I'd recommend giving hojicha a try. To order, the touch screen allows you to order your drink with slight customization options. If you do have any questions about the menu, there is not someone immediately available to answer your questions compared to ordering with a person. I got the tiramisu matcha which was absolutely a drinkable dessert. It was creamy, deep in flavor, and had a proper matcha to milk ratio. I enjoyed my drink very much and would order it again! Flavor (5/5): I haven't had such a solid cup of matcha in a long time. I love that they have different types of matcha you can choose for your drink, hand whisk it in front of you and make such a harmonious drink. Their seasonal flavors like pumpkin was a hit too! The crepes also was such a yummy treat to share, creamy filling and a thin crepe! Their biscoff matcha alone definitely makes me want to come back. Instagram Worthy (5/5): We actually stumbled across this cafe while we were walking to lunch and the moment we saw how cute it was we knew we had to stop in. Japanese cafe, very minimal but intentional decoration. Cozy yet tasteful and very gram worthy. Not much seating tho! Service (5/5): Crepes take longer than drinks but all the staff was very efficient! Lots of people in an open concept barista area making your drinks. Takeaways: Wish it was closer to me! Not really a place for you to sit and chat, more so a grab and go. Parking can be tricky to find on a busy weekend. read more

Matcha Creme Brulee -- soft and matcha filled cream crepe. The matcha flavor was so prominent and didn't taste just like regular cream only! The scorched top had the right amount of sweetness and crunch to balance with the cream! I would try the other crepes next time, this one was really delicious! This crepe was a really good quality crepe, the matcha flavor was present throughout each bite. The line was long again, but it was worth the wait for this treat! read more

Strong matcha with fun menu offerings, but almost $9 for a small cup?! It's a smaller matcha store with only a couple seats outside and a self-serve kiosk. They also have soft serve and crepes as well but crepes only on select days. tried their tiramisu matcha w/ no sweetener and I thought it was good but wouldve been better w/ sweetner! It was strong and I love that they have different matcha options you can get, but it felt more like a grab and go place and a tad bit overpriced. read more
There has been so many matcha places opening in Berkeley, so I had to stop by this. Pumpkin spice hojicia is (5/5): For some reason I think the Hojicia drinks are much better in Berkeley than the matcha drinks. The pumpkin spice is a fall edition drink. The hojicia was perfectly sweet with a pleasant caramel flavor. The pumpkin spice added nice spices to make it feel like fall again. Overall really enjoy this place. read more
A bunch of my friends recommended this place to place to me so I had to go check it out! I came on a Sunday evening ~5pm and there was no wait. The ordering is straight-forward with a self-serve kiosk. There is an area to park in front of the store but it is a bit tricky to get a spot. The inside is has a neutral, minimalist vibe which I thought was nice. The menu had a lot of things that I wanted to try, but I ended up getting the Matcha Tiramisu. In terms of the matcha, I thought it was solid. The matcha was smooth and there were no dreaded clumps at the bottom of my drink. I think the topping fell a bit short for me. I love Tiramisu and I didn't really get the tiramisu taste. The price is a bit expensive as well for a small drink (~$8). Overall, I liked the quality of the matcha and I think if I had gotten the classic double matcha I would've liked that better. I think the price is a bit on the higher side for matcha, but the quality was good. I would come back to try their creme brulee crepe! read more

I frequent this matcha place often (since it's close to work for me) and wanted to offer some insights. Environment is open, airy. Quite small inside- but it's nice to just order straight from the screen. Matcha itself is great quality. I get the matcha tiramisu often. Though, for the price, i wish it was in a larger container. Service is always what tanks the experience for me. On both busy and non-busy days, the workers often chat for extended periods of time, make their own drinks. (This has been consistent each time I've gone). Which almost always ruins the experience. But I'll always go for the drinks themselves. read more

The matcha is exactly how it should be - rich and earthy without being overpowering and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness. Not overly sugary and not drowned in milk either, so you still get that true matcha flavor. Smooth and satisfying. Definitely coming back again and again and again! read more

Best matcha! My top choice right now when I'm around is the tiramisu matcha with Miki and reduced milk regular sweet. Biscoff cookie right in top so good! Would be even better if sprinkled right on top too read more
Ordered the matcha coco cloud and the creme brulee crepe and both were delicious! The matcha coco cloud was refreshing on a hot day, and the matcha didn't taste watered down. The crepes are only available Friday - Sunday at 12 PM, until they're sold out. Sometimes, they'll be available a bit earlier before 12, so I'd recommend checking their Instagram! You order on the kiosk. The shop is a bit small and does get pretty packed, so you might have to wait outside and periodically go in to see if your order is done. The creme brulee topping was delicious, although a bit too sweet for me. It felt like I was taken back to Japan while I was eating it. It's definitely very filling as well. Seating wise, there's a small bench to sit on indoors, and a few tables and chairs outside. When I arrived on a weekend around 1, there was only about 10 people ahead of me, but I imagine that this place will get more popular once it's all over social media. There also is no restroom available, just a FIY. I'd definitely come back here again if I was in the area! read more

For some reason, the size of this drink was smaller than I imagine. The matcha tiramisu was ok. On the naturally sweeter side, more enjoyable than the matcha latte. The matcha latte was bland.... And we think for that price and for a line out the door for this place, it shouldn't be. For my drink, there was also a broken piece of the matcha whisk inside my drink for which I sipped up...... not good and hazardous. read more

This space is so cute!!! Love that there's a pretty matcha place. As you start walking toward this place you'll notice a line! For your first time there is it worth waiting? Yessssss Once you make it in you'll notice the cutest seats. Love the ambiance here, simple yet sweet. I ordered the creme brulee matcha custard cream with strawberry crepe! This place is quite small but really nice in aesthetics. I was in the area for a business trip and stopped by to get a drink. I ordered on a kiosk and waited a few minutes until my drink was ready. I got the Hojicha Tiramisu and it was really good, not too sweet and a really subtle taste of the hojicha. Although I'm not sure how their matcha is, I'd definitely come back to try it again if I am in the area. It is a little pricy though considering it is in a small cup. read more

Went in on a Saturday afternoon and there were a decent amount of people waiting for drinks but not ordering. They have a self order station so the process is seamless. The store front is very cute and simple aka, very Japanese. We ordered two matcha coconut clouds, a matcha ichigo and a hot matcha. The matcha was very tame; however the drinks were very well made. The coconut cloud was so refreshing especially on warm day and the ichigo had a good strawberry flavor. I would like to go back and try the hojicha as well. read more

With the sudden influx of matcha spots opening in Berkeley, I had high expectations for Yume Mori Matcha. The place looked very clean, cute and minimalistic upon arrival, and there was no line when we came on a Monday afternoon. Matcha Latte (reduced fat milk, regular sweetness): Opted for a standard matcha latte rather than a double matcha, which I will be trying next time. I personally enjoyed this matcha despite the slightly bitter aftertaste that other reviews mentioned. The only issue I have is that a matcha latte of this size for $7 is personally not worth it... However, I do want to try their Matcha Tiramisu, so will be coming back when I'm in the mood to buy a matcha out. Matcha Ichigo was okay according to my friend, and a bit chunky with the strawberry hits. I'm not a strawberry matcha gal, but this was sweet and not bad. Very pretty! Overall, this is a cute spot for a quick grab n go, if there's no line. read more

I tried the Hojicha Tiramisu, it's like a hojicha latte but comes with tiramisu cream and a biscoff cookie. You can also switch to oat milk with no additional charge for those who are lactose intolerant. The drink is super creamy and delicious, but you can't adjust the sugar level, I would say it's more like a dessert drink. Service was relatively quick despite a line, and the cafe has some indoor benches and some outdoor seating. read more
We just happened to walk by Yume Mori last saturday and realized it's their soft opening since their grand opening is on the 28th. It's a very cute store with seating outdoor. The line wasn't too long so we decided to try their matcha crepe. So delicious!!! I love how they put little crispy rice puff inside if I got the name correct. Hahaha... Have to come back to try their other crepe flavors and their drinks. read more
I love the aesthetics of the store, especially the way they display their menu items! There are individual sketches for all of their drinks, where each ingredient is clearly labeled in the drawing. I ordered their Matcha Tiramisu drink. While I liked the open ceiling concept inside the restaurant and the aesthetics, there is no seating inside, and the space is small. While there were several visible workers, they were barely talking to each other, and none of the customers inside were talking either while waiting for their drinks. It was a bit awkward to wait inside and listen to just the music, but my friends' drinks and mine came within 15 minutes. The Matcha Tiramisu came with a Biscoff cookie on top, and the drink itself was light and creamy, with a good balance of matcha and sweetness. Loved the drink itself! read more
Honestly, I have to give it to Yume Mori. This place was better than I expected. After being repeatedly disappointed by matcha spots around the Bay, this one did not disappoint. The shop is super cute and located right in downtown Berkeley. I loved the overall vibe. It was calm, clean, and aesthetic in the best way. Atmosphere Since it's new, the hype is definitely real, so be ready for a bit of a wait (I think I waited 15-20 ish minutes). The space itself feels cozy and modern, perfect for a quick caffeine stop or catching up with a friend. I also loved that they hand whisk all their matchas, which some places in the Bay actually charge extra for (not a fan). What I Ordered I got the Tiramisu Matcha and my friend ordered the Strawberry Matcha. TBH - I only got the tiramisu because it looked cute and aesthetic which is not usually something I'd go for since it sounded sweet. I opted for no extra sweetener just in case. Experience I could really taste the matcha, which I appreciated, and the Biscoff cookie on top was a fun touch. The drink was a little on the smaller side and the wait was definitely noticeable, but the milk-to-matcha ratio was solid (have you tried matcha at a boba spot, if so - you get it). Prices are a bit high, but they offer oat milk at no extra charge, which I thought was a nice plus. Final Thoughts I'm not mad about this spot at all. The matcha was good, the vibe was cute, and overall it's one of the better matcha spots I've had in the area. I'd definitely come back to try more drinks once the hype calms down a bit. read more
I felt the need to peek into this shop when I saw the line out the door! It's a small cafe with two kiosks to order matcha drinks from. Two types of matcha powders, and it's cool to see the baristas whisking at the bar on the left. I got the yuzu miso matcha, which has an interesting citrus umami savory taste. We also tried the strawberry matcha. Both drinks were finished after walking a few blocks in Berkeley, so my only reservation is that these drinks are quite small in size. read more

Cute matcha shop with a minimalistic and industrial aesthetic. I came here on a Sunday afternoon. The line was out the door, but the wait wasn't too bad. There were a good amount of staff members hand whisking the drinks. I ordered a Double Matcha. The cup was quite small, but the drink was really good. I could definitely taste the matcha, and the flavor was nice. I would definitely recommend the Double Matcha for matcha lovers. read more
Took a quick stroll in downtown Berkeley and came to Yume Mori for an after lunch pick me up. We waited about 10 min in line and ordered our drinks at the iPad counter. Drinks were prepared quickly and were quite good! We got the Matcha Tiramisu (which other than the biscoff, tasted just like a normal matcha) and the Double Matcha. Both drinks were delicious smooth and tasty. The matcha they use tastes very premium and I would definitely come back! read more
Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it had some good business. Sign on the door says Soft Opening still. Not sure when this opened but I have a feeling it's going to be popular among matcha lovers. You can only order from an iPad up front. Interface was easy to use. Very succinct menu. We ordered 3 drinks and boy can you taste that matcha. I want to say it tastes like ceremonial matcha powder! There are no seats inside. Only a 2x4 wooden bench I suppose is only for waiting, so if you want to sit and relax there are a few chairs on the sidewalk. Definitely recommend. read more
They recently changed their policy, so the crepes are only available on weekends after 1pm! we thought the crepe was just okay - the cream didn't have a strong matcha flavor, and there were some roasted rice cereal type of bits at the bottom. The matcha is great quality, but the drinks are pretty small. I like how the drinks aren't too sweet either. The matcha usucha is a great pick if you want to taste the matcha flavor. The shop is pretty small with limited seating just for waiting for your drink. It gets really popular on the weekends, but they prepare the drinks relatively fast. read more
New Matcha spot in Berkeley! They hand-whisk everything and use bougie gear to make their matchas; we're talking about the Acaia scales. We only waited 5~ minutes to order on the kiosk and then another 5 minutes to get our drinks. We got the Tiramisu Matcha and Matcha Usucha. The Matcha Usucha is not a latte and more matcha & water but it has a full flavor profile with a sweeter first taste and more bitter aftertaste. The Tiramisu Matcha has a cream top and more on the sweeter side. Get their regular Matcha if you like sweeter and floral! read more

You can actually taste the matcha here - unlike some of the other new matcha places in Berkeley- so that's a good sign that they're using high quality powder. However I think they are still lacking some attention to detail. I asked for an unsweetened latte and I got a very very sweet drink. I avoided mixing it so I just drank the matcha part at the top and threw away the rest. read more
I went to visit my friend in Berkeley and this was a spot she wanted to try out. Her friends mentioned that their hojicha was better than the matcha, so we got a hojicha latte and the hojicha tiramisu latte. We had really high hopes for this spot, but we were both underwhelmed by both drinks. The hojicha tiramisu was better than the original latte, but both were a little too watered down for our liking. As I drank my drink slowly, I realized at some point that there was a strong aftertaste of something that was unpleasant. Being that it started tasting like tap water straight from the faucet, we assumed it was the ice melting into the drink. The space is small but aesthetic and their staff is super friendly and kind. You do order at a kiosk, which there is only one so be prepared to wait at least 30min if there's a line. We spent the majority of our time waiting in line to order, but we really only waited like 15min because the line hadn't reached outside. And then we did get stuck behind someone who kept asking questions about kiosk system like how it knew their name without them entering it. So, that added a few minutes to our wait. I saw this place on tiktok and thought it would be so good but I left a bit disappointed. I like more sweet matchas but this one was really bitter. Or maybe i'm just not use to better quality matcha? But not what I was expecting. I waited 15 mins to order and another 15 mins for the drink. They were sold out of scones but someone had it in front of me and it looked so delicious so maybe I will go back to try that. If you like stronger matcha this is the place for you!! Love the matcha latte and matcha crepe! It's a small shop and there is usually a wait/ no seats. They have various matcha lattes, all hand whisked on order. The crepes are also made fresh on Fri-Sun from 1pm and takes awhile to be ready but it's well worth the wait! The crepe has a great brûlée top and the cream is fluffy and not too sweet. I'm definitely coming back to try more of their menu items. read more
I can't say there's really anything extra great about this place when it comes to the taste of their matcha. They use agave honey as a sweetener which I like because I'm not into the artificial sweeteners. It also took a while to get my drink so if you can order ahead of time, I'd do that because it was pretty cold standing inside with their front entrance door open. read more
