I've been exploring more of the Berkeley matcha scene this spring and De Matcha has been on my list. I unfortunately wasn't able to stop by the last couple visits because a girl can only drink so much matcha at a time, but I finally made it. I ordered the pistachio matcha latte with oat milk for here from one of the two in-store kiosks. I was pretty excited to try it since pistachio isn't a common flavor at most matcha cafés. My order was called within a few minutes after ordering. I grabbed one of the plants at the entrance of the café to snap a photo before returning the plant and slurping the matcha. I first tried the pistachio cream on the top to get a good sense of the pistachio flavor and then gave the drink a good stir. It was sooooo good! The nutty pistachio and savory matcha pair really well together, and the matcha was pretty strong - not watered down at all. Apart from the on point matcha, the decor and vibes are immaculate, and the café is quite spacious. This is the perfect spot to chill with friends. read more

The space here is nice, and it's a great place to sit and study. There's a lot of tables and outlets, a decently clean bathroom, and (slow) WiFi. However, the drinks are just not good. The matcha is super light and milky to the point where I could barely taste it. I'm not sure if I just ordered on a bad day, since a lot of the drink reviews seem to say otherwise, but, in my experience, the matcha was not good. I just don't think it's worth taking the chance to come back, especially when there are so many other great matcha places within a few blocks. I walked by this matcha place and decided to check it out since I noticed there were a lot of matcha places in this area. I got the black sesame matcha with oatmilk and it was amazing! This is my first time having ceremonial grade matcha and it was super smooth, had a strong flavor and was very rich with the oatmilk. The black sesame flavor sorta got lost when I mixed the latte but overall I really enjoyed the drink. They also made it very quickly and ordering was very easy. High Ceilings. A bit dim inside but the front of the building is all window so the natural lighting is pretty. Very clean interior. Not large but it feels spacious with the high ceilings and minimal furniture. I think this would be a cute place to study. I LOVEDDDDD the Banana Hojicha. I tried the Banana Matcha but thought that the matcha was a bit watered down. I would love to come back and try their other drinks here. You walk in and order on a little tablet. Service doesn't take long at all. It wasn't busy when I went (Sunday around 2pm). Parking is a bit more of a struggle to find if you're coming from out of town. I think the hype has died down somewhat, so when I've visited it hasn't been as crazy as the first time and the ambiance is more chill. De Matcha was on my Berkeley matcha crawl list and I was so very excited to try it! You self order on the kiosk and I received my drink very quickly. I ordered the strawberry matcha latte; there were no options to choose sweetness, but you are able to choose the type of milk you want. I wish there were options to choose sweetness level because mine was simply way way way way too sweet. I loved that they used fresh strawberries. You can actually taste the fruit bits in the drink but I was not able to taste the matcha. I remembered seeing this place pop up on reels as the newest matcha spot in the area, so we decided to stop in right after our run! - Strawberry Matcha Duo -- layers of strawberry purée at the bottom, matcha latte in the middle, and matcha foam on top, lightly dusted with matcha powder; not overly sweet, super aesthetic, and I loved the whole strawberry slices! A refreshing and energizing post-run treat - Strawberry Matcha -- similar to the duo but without the matcha foam; a bit lighter overall and simpler in flavor They also offer other duo-style drinks like banana and mango, and their osmanthus matcha latte looked fruity and refreshing too. Went up to the counter and asked which matcha was the most matcha least sweet and the guy said he could make me a ceremonial matcha with extra matcha and no sugar. Turned out amazing!! My husband and I have been on a matcha kick lately, so we were excited to see de matcha's (rebranded from matcha matcha) soft opening pop up. I got the Matcha Duo and my husband got the Banana Matcha Duo. Kinda surprised by the reviews but it seems like this spot rebranded from "Matcha Matcha" to "De Matcha" maybe as a way to improve?? For example the photos shared when it was "Matcha Matcha" seemed like the matcha was dull and opaque, but my matcha was vibrant bright green! We ordered the strawberry as well as the banana duo matcha latte and it matcha was vibrant green and had a strong flavor throughout the drink. My friend had tried Yume matcha around the area and actually preferred this place to it. Downside is that you can't adjust sugar and it's just too sweet. I would personally opt out of the matcha cream as it made the drink WAYYY too thick, it felt more like a dessert than a drink. Lots of space to sit indoors but there's like no AC, so we were dying from the heat. Service was fast as our drinks came out within minutes. read more

Stopped by De Matcha today and honestly wasn't expecting much, but I ended up really liking it. I got the Strawberry Matcha Duo with whole milk, and it was surprisingly well balanced. The strawberry at the bottom tasted fresh, & the matcha had a nice earthy flavor without being bitter. It was so perfect! I can't wait to be back. Plenty of seating if you want to hang out. Great matcha spot on Telegraph Ave in Berkeley! The cafe's space is nice and great for studying or catching up with friends. My personal favorite drinks of theirs are their Strawberry Matcha Duo and Banana Matcha Duo! I like how they use actual fruit in these drinks rather than syrup which sets them apart from other matcha cafes. Their matcha has been a bit inconsistent from my experience (it can be a little grainy sometimes) but it does consistently have a nice umami flavor to it making it a solid matcha spot in the area. I also do wish they had an option to adjust sweetness because their drinks are on the sweeter side. Their service operates on a kiosk and the drinks come out pretty quickly despite how busy it can get sometimes. And that too, the black sesame overpowered the matcha, so I couldn't taste it as much. Service was great, you order via kiosk and then wait for your order to be called to pick up your drink. Pretty smooth and under 15 mins! Overall, great find! Super close to campus, so may take much longer in peak times (heard up to 30 mins sometimes).
