Now that school is out and Berkeley is a bit empty I finally got a chance to visit Eight Grams! I got the guava series matcha latte with vanilla foam and it was so good. Refreshing and handwhisked, plus matcha sprinkle on top all combined perfectly in my mouth. I got my mom the coconut water and matcha and she said it was so refreshing. The parking can be difficult but nearby streets and paid parking are available, I recommend coming early in a Sunday so that you don't have to pay for parking. We went at 10am and it wasn't too busy but an hour later the crowd started trickling in. Workers are really nice, they have kiosks but I did not see any bathrooms. My husband went to Eight Grams Matcha three times within about a month or so. We don't even live close by, so it's worth the drive for us. We appreciate when our matcha drinks are more matcha-y than milky. The Golden Banana Matcha and Matcha Einspanner are both tasty, but a bit on the sweeter side. I would love it even more if I can adjust the sweetness level down just a notch. I think my go-to drink will be the Double Matcha Latte. It's the perfect balance of matcha and sweetness level for me. The Pink Guava Matcha is part of a limited series, which I really enjoyed. It's refreshing and the guava isn't too overpowering nor too subtle. It's be dangerous if we lived closer. I was so excited to try this matcha that I made a special trip to Berkeley and was super impressed by the beautiful interior and the pretty pink marketing. The lychee had a strong lychee and matcha flavor - if you like lychee you would enjoy. The banana matcha was a little too artificial for my liking. I ordered the regular sugar just because I didn't know how sweet their drinks got and I would say it was pretty well balanced. When you walk in there's multiple kiosks to order from but it's a pretty popular spot so if you're here to study I think it would be a bit hard to find a spot to set up. The BEST matcha eispanner I have ever had. not too sweet and milky which I find to be very common with eispanners because of the extra cream. The color speaks for itself and I like how it wasn't too heavy. Decent amount of seating and great ambiance. Drinks came out very quickly as well considering how many people were in front of us. I saw eight grams matcha on an instagram reel and decided to try them. If you do visit this place, parking can be east but sometimes it's not. But given it is downtown Berkeley it definitely wasn't easy to find parking so just keep that in mind. First impression when I walked in, it was very simple. They had like a photo area set up on the left corner where they kind of make you feel like you're in japan I guess was the goal for this. We didn't take photos cause there was a bunch of college kids who spent over 30 minutes just to get the right photo. I personally think the place is a little bit tight. As much as I would like for this to be a sit down cafe where you do homework and what, I just don't think it's feasible for that since there's so many people going in and out and everyone is moving around you since it's a tight space. You order on a kiosk, and it was pretty self explanatory. We ordered the Lavander matcha, banana matcha and matcha pudding. I wasn't a big fan of the pudding, there was something about the texture I did not like. The taste was okay as well. Their drinks is where it's really at though. My boyfriend loves banana and he fell in love with the banana matcha and ever since he decided to try banana matcha every where else we would go. I ordered the Lavender matcha and also enjoyed the drink. It was too sweet at all. I would like for it to have more lavender since matcha can be very overpowering. There are so many matcha spots near campus now, and I have made it my mission to try them all. Eight Grams Matcha, one of the newest, has a very sleek and modern ambiance - ceramic matcha dishes are displayed artfully along the wall, and orders are placed on a kiosk. After perusing the menu of matcha drinks, I ordered the honeycomb matcha because that seemed to be the trending beverage of choice (I saw it all over Instagram). Of the three varieties of matcha to choose from, I selected the house blend. There was a long queue of orders ahead of me, yet the team managed to prepare my drink in under five minutes. I took my drink to-go but would have stayed to enjoy my beverage at the cafe if I didn't have to rush to class. The honey matcha was definitely photogenic - the distinct green and white layers slowly fused together after slowly stirring in the honeycomb.The matcha itself, as many others have noted in their reviews, had a very mild flavor. My drink in particular tasted mainly like honey and milk, and the sweet, floral notes of the honey nearly overshadowed the delicate flavor of the matcha. Additionally, I may have consumed my drink too slowly because bits of the waxy honeycomb started to end up in my drink. Berkeley is definitely stepping up its matcha game! 8 Grams recently opened and is currently in its soft opening phase. They offer three matcha blends: the Kiso house blend, Sabi bright blend, and Haku balanced blend. The Kiso house blend comes at no extra charge, while Sabi (+$0.25) and Haku (+$0.50) are available for a small upcharge. I ordered the honeycomb matcha with the Haku blend. My friends tried the banana matcha, a regular matcha latte, and the hojicha. As someone who regularly makes matcha at home, I personally found the matcha here to be quite subtle. The Haku blend in the honeycomb matcha was super mild and I could barely taste the matcha. I asked if it was possible to add extra matcha shots but they weren't able to do so.
