I've heard a bit about this matcha spot from influencer reels, and I tried it out when I was in the Berkeley area for work. I was highly intrigued by their Matcha Cheesecake Latte, given that's not something I see at other matcha spots. The Matcha Cheesecake Latte ended up not being just ok in the end. I got it with their house blend of matcha (the others were an up charge). Despite the house blend having the least bitterness of their 5 blends, I kept getting a bitter aftertaste after each sip (the drink was at 75% sweet as well!). Furthermore, the cheesecake flavor felt quite lacking throughout. I was getting more flavor from the graham cracker crumbles than the cheesecake layer itself. At $8.50 for this, I'd honestly go to another matcha spot given there's plenty of matcha options that have either better quality or lower price options out there.
I had the pleasure of visiting Eight Grams Matcha with my dear friend, and I am counting down the days until I can return. The matcha menu is expansive; I had difficulty choosing solely one drink because there were great options to choose ranging from lavender to guava. My banana matcha was scrumptious, not cloying or bitter nor heavy on the ice, which I truly appreciate as girl who sips and takes her time with drinks. The space is lively with students and locals. You order at the kiosk and get your drinks at the bar. There is paid, metered parking around the perimeter and residential parking, if you are ok walking. Overall, a great matcha spot in the Bay Area!!
love the zen inspired decor and how you can choose from 6 blends! we tried the Matcha Cheesecake Latte and Double Matcha Latte and loved them both. the former is definitely more of a dessert, a very thick and rich drink. the latter was perfect for me, the cream was subtly sweet and paired well with the creamy and umami kiso blend. we ordered 25% sweet for both, and will definitely come back to try others!
Whenever I'm in Berkeley, a trip to 8 Grams Matcha is a must! It's hands down my favorite in the Bay. Literally across the street from the Cal bookstore, there's a camps lot across the street and plenty of parking options (both Paris and free) nearby. The space is modern and super cute! The staff is always super friendly- something that's hard to find these days. But what makes 8 Grams the best is the quality of their drinks and matcha. So, SO good! I always upgrade to the best and it never disappoints. The seasonal selections are always amazing, and the lychee guava has been my absolute favorite all summer long! If you're looking for matcha near the UC Berkeley campus, 8 Grams is number one!
On a search a matcha to places I haven't tried had brought me to Bancroft in Berkeley. I usually do not travel for matcha since I been spoiled with matcha in SF for Don Juan de la matcha. Having so many places to go in SF I decided to try a place I got recommendation to try in Berkeley which just opened this year in 2026. On a Summer stroll on Bancroft with the sun out I decided to get something refreshing to drink. For Don Juan de la Matcha is about pure matcha and Eight grams Matcha has many different flavors of it. They have 8 Grams Einspänner, Coconut Matcha Smoothie, and the Matcha Cheesecake Latte . They also have the Rose Matcha and the purple colored Lavender Matcha. I decided to try the Honeycomb Matcha. It was not too sweet but with honey it was delicious and added some sweetness. A good pure mix of matcha and honey. The matcha was an absolute angel with a sweet and earthy taste. A good place to grab matcha for Don Juan de la Matcha. Go to Matcha called "8 gram"and Don Juan de la Matcha is who "I am "and this is my new matcha "jam" it isn't bitter like some in SF on "instagram" Eight Grams is where one "goes"to get matcha with the flavor of a "rose"when it comes to the purple matcha the lavender is aromatic to the "nose" and grab matcha for which is well "compose"
This is my sister and fiancé's favorite matcha spot and we finally got to give it a try! We tried the double matcha, golden banana, strawberry matcha, and one that I'll butcher the name. The inside vibe was crazier than I anticipate it usually being, as it was move in weekend for UC Berkeley. But even with that, we were able to order at a kiosk shortly and have our drinks out not after long. We did all get upgrades to our matcha blend instead of getting the house. This does make it quite pricey, which is tough because I feel like I'm stuck getting that blend now, but it was really good matcha. The golden banana and the strawberry were my two favorites. I hope to come back and try more, especially the honeycomb!
The seasonal guava lychee matcha is a refreshing drink if you're looking for a caffeine boost that doesn't have milk. The guava flavor is more noticeable than the lychee, and overall the fruity flavors mask the flavor of the matcha. Appreciate how the sugar and ice levels are adjustable
Having lived in San Jose and San Francisco, I've been on the other side of the bay and tried everything south to north. I think eight grams is #1 or #2 in the east bay. It's between this place and Yume Nori. I think I would choose this place due to size, quality, and consistency. You really get bang for your buck, high quality drink, fast and efficient service, and it's cute. 10/10 this is my go to matcha spot and I drive just to get my fix!
Came with a friend on a weekday, we found meter parking around the corner from the shop. There were 3 devices to input your order. There was also a order guide above the devices to tell the customer a little bit about each drink. There was also another display of the different kinds of matcha blends that you could choose for your matcha drink. I decided to try the Einspanner with kuro blend since I like my matcha to have more depth. I had it 75% sweetened since that was recommended. After ordering and paying, we only waited a few minutes before our drinks were ready. I feel the matcha did have depth to it. The house cream that was on top was a little too rich for me. I wonder how the other matcha types would taste in a latte.
I got it via Uber Eats. So I didn't get my drink right away but through delivery wow it's good. The flavor withheld throughout the delivery. It's not too sweet or milky. It's literally just right. Now I can't wait to actually go to the cafe and the matcha in real time. I ordered a double match latte and so far so good.
Eight Grams is a winner in my eyes! With all the matcha spots in Berkeley, this is definitely a top contender: great matcha quality, offerings, and efficient service. I came to Eight Grams on a weekday morning. It wasn't busy and was really quaint inside. The cafe is bright, minimal, and modern. Not much decor or ambiance, but more of a chill place to hang out with friends. Ordering is done on the tablets, and you get your drink after. I decided to place my order in advance. I chose the seasonal Pink Guava Matcha and got the Golden Banana Matcha for my friend. For the matchas, you can choose or upgrade your matcha blend, which is neat! You can also adjust the sweetness and ice level, and choose your milk option. I went for the house blend and Oat Milk. My drink was superb! The matcha was bright and of great quality. Loved how the guava shone through and had a nice sweetness. My friend enjoyed her drink! I can't wait to come back. If you're a matcha lover, Eight Grams Matcha is worth a visit. Being across Cal, it's easily accessible by walking or public transportation. Find them off Bancroft Way with garage or street parking nearby.
My husband went to Eight Grams Matcha three times within about a month or so. We don't even live close by, so it's worth the drive for us. We appreciate when our matcha drinks are more matcha-y than milky. The Golden Banana Matcha and Matcha Einspanner are both tasty, but a bit on the sweeter side. I would love it even more if I can adjust the sweetness level down just a notch. I think my go-to drink will be the Double Matcha Latte. It's the perfect balance of matcha and sweetness level for me. The Pink Guava Matcha is part of a limited series, which I really enjoyed. It's refreshing and the guava isn't too overpowering nor too subtle. It's be dangerous if we lived closer. We'd probably come here once a week!!
Real matcha and expensive. With alternative milk and any extra toppings, you're looking at a $10+!! While my first drink didn't hit, when I ordered again for delivery, it was better. But also $16 (including delivery fee). The second order I got was strawberry matcha with oat milk and mochi. Mochi was like a pudding at the bottom. It's good quality matcha and I like that they offer three different kinds. The overall drink was kind of mid for the hefty price tag, imo.
Berkeley is definitely stepping up its matcha game! 8 Grams recently opened and is currently in its soft opening phase. They offer three matcha blends: the Kiso house blend, Sabi bright blend, and Haku balanced blend. The Kiso house blend comes at no extra charge, while Sabi (+$0.25) and Haku (+$0.50) are available for a small upcharge. I ordered the honeycomb matcha with the Haku blend. My friends tried the banana matcha, a regular matcha latte, and the hojicha. As someone who regularly makes matcha at home, I personally found the matcha here to be quite subtle. The Haku blend in the honeycomb matcha was super mild and I could barely taste the matcha. I asked if it was possible to add extra matcha shots but they weren't able to do so. The matcha latte with the Sabi blend and oat milk just tasted like milk with no matcha. We asked if it could be remade with regular milk but that also wasn't an option. Overall, I wouldn't likely return. This would be a good place if you're new to matcha or prefer a lighter flavor. read more

This place had really delicious matcha! You get to choose from 3 blends (though 2 of them are additional charge) but the taste even on its own is FIRE! I got the strawberry matcha with matcha cream and it was super yummy. My only thing was that my drink came out to $10.50 or something after adjustments!! But overall I'd recommend if you're visiting the area OR if I lived in this area I'd probably frequent often. read more

I am super particular about my matcha, and Eight Grams is always a must when I am visiting Berkeley. In general the matcha lattes are on the creamier side and you can adjust the sweetness level. I also really enjoy that they offer matcha powders with different flavor profiles, so you can choose the one that suits your preferences. If you're as much of a matcha addict as I am, then the Double Matcha Latte is your best friend! I had mine with matcha mochi. The lychee guava drinks were sweet and refreshing. Don't expect to taste a lot of the matcha in the refresher, but it's still great if you want the caffeine kick! The Golden Banana Matcha is by far the best banana flavored matcha I've ever had. Definitely on the sweeter side and the banana flavor is prominent (without tasting too artificial and syrupy). Don't get this if you want a heavy matcha flavor. read more

If you are a matcha lover, this is the place for you! They have a great selection of matcha drinks that are captivating and delicious! I love the ambiance inside the store. It's bright and simple. The service was phenomenal! The staff are kind and drinks were prepared in a short amount of time. For each drink, you can select from 3 types of blend (House, Bright or Balanced), depending on whether you like the taste to be more or less umami, aromatic, creamy, astringent or bitter. I tried the Honeycomb Matcha Latte, Hojicha Latte, Pink Coco, 8 Grams Einspanner and Golden Banana Matcha Latte. My favorite would be the Banana Matcha Latte made with the bright blend and regular sweetness! It's creamy with the perfect amount of sweetness and the matcha wasn't too strong. The Hojicha Latte and Honeycomb Matcha Latte are my next fav! 10/10 recommend! read more

each to their own but be real, truthfully i would never come back and beyond disappointed lmao i will give them credit for a clean looking interior, reasonable waittime and drink presentations but not advertising themselves as a place that specializes in matcha friend and i ordered the golden banana matcha and machi matcha. for a place thats called 8 grams, the drinks did not taste like 8 grams worth let alone like matcha. we did the recommended sweetness and whatever sweetners they added simply overpowered the drink. we struggled to find mochi bits in the machi matcha drink and the banana drink itself was too sweet and tasted like a green colored banana milk. matcha pretty much tasteless but green in visual. friend observed they prebatch their matcha in bottles if anyone cares abt that we tried, couldnt finish our drinks. but hey, heres a aesthetically pleasing image of the drinks i guess read more
Eight Grams has been on my radar, as I've been curious to try the matcha in East Bay and compare to the matcha scene popping off in San Francisco. I got the strawberry guava matcha for something a lil tangy but also sweet. While I opted for less sweet, since I figured the guava would be pretty sweet already, I still found the drink a bit too sweet even after blending the fruit puree with the matcha. The matcha itself was definitely high quality though, so I'm not deterred at all from coming again. I'd just opt for a non-sweet or even less sweet drink next time. Also really liked the minimalistic zen interior decor. In addition to the tables for studying, there's a nice little alcove with a bench next to a bonsai tree, which the staff confirmed we could sit in. Definitely feels like the VIP section out of the entire café. read more

I always love trying new matcha spots in the bay and this place didn't disappoint. I ended up getting a honeycomb matcha and unlike most places, I had to do a double take because, yes, they use REAL honeycomb pieces and not the candied stuff or the cereal. Definitely a winner! I also ordered a matcha pudding and hojicha tart. They have a lot of unique offerings that aren't your typical matcha latte, strawberry matcha and einspanner. My only qualm is that the ordering list seemed to not show when my order was ready, so I had to go and ask about it. read more

8 Gram Matcha is so good! I always get the Matcha Einspänner with matcha cream and it's super creamy without the cream completely mixing into the matcha, which I personally prefer. I also get the Matcha Cheesecake latte too. The matcha flavor still comes through really well. It's a small shop, but they're always super quick and efficient. Definitely one of my favorite matcha spots! read more

The BEST matcha eispanner I have ever had. not too sweet and milky which I find to be very common with eispanners because of the extra cream. The color speaks for itself and I like how it wasn't too heavy. Decent amount of seating and great ambiance. Drinks came out very quickly as well considering how many people were in front of us. Parking of course is always tricky in Berkeley but this place was genuinely worth the 1 hour drive I did with my friends at 8 PM. Super big perk that they close 10 pm too!! read more

Another great matcha spot in Berkeley. We visited Eight Grams of Matcha. No line, and I love that you can choose your matcha level. We ordered the 8 grams Einspanner and the Golden Banana Matcha. Already excited to come back and explore more of the menu. read more
Another Self ordering location next to UC Berkeley campus. I feel like not having customer service or just communicating with the public is weird. But overall I will say they have a nice ambiance with good seating. I ordered the lavender matcha, my daughter got the strawberry matcha. Overall the taste is good, I taste little pieces of the lavender which didn't bother me at all. My daughter enjoyed her strawberry matcha. We're giving it a 4/5! read more
Ranking definitely goes banana 1) matcha 2) rose matcha 3) honeycomb. The honeycomb matcha was good but a little disappointing. The honeycomb on top was kinda weird and not crunchy like I was expecting. It kinda tasted like I was chewing on rubber. It just tasted like a regular honey sweetened matcha. Next time I go back I would defs stick with the banana matcha read more

I was so excited to try this place. Outside they have a stand where you can taste one of the selection of matcha today it was the haku i believe which was good. when you walk in the aesthetics is so nice. They have machines to order yourself. The customer service was good. I asked for an opinion and they explained everything and gave me some options. Now I ended up ordering the lavender matcha from the picture it looked like it would be purple but it was white it also had flowers at the bottom which i didnt enjoy as much because i couldnt get pass them. The cups are really cute. They have limited seating and they were all taken unfortunately. Honestly, I would give them another try, there is potential. I would try the honeycomb one. read more

Pretty good overall. Parking is a little hard to come by depending on on the time of day. Pretty pricey as my oat milk sub and matcha cream top made one drink $10 already. There's also several varieties of matcha which is nice too. read more

i affirm YES KONICHIWA to eight grams of legal japanese wawa. i love doing several lines of performative green zaza. yum! yes yes yes. down with misogyny and periods! yes to womens rights and laufey! located in berkeley. theres a green sign that says 8g but its indistinguishable amongst the other green signs around it. so make sure you walk into the right shop! service is fast. i wonder if they whisk to order - bar is not fully visible. place is nice with limited seating. its giving white maruwu seicha matcha americano (waka, 50% sweet) - 8/10 the best out of the 3 i ordered. waka has a very floral and nutty profile, tasted like drinking rose coconut water. the matcha is a bit astringent at the end but balanced! matcha mochi latte (75%, kiso) - 6/10, nice mochi pieces but too milky. i think kiso is a pretty light blend ?? i want STRONGER ZAZA MMMM matcha einspanner (50%, haku) - 7.5/10. very rich, a great dessert drink if you plan toilet trips accordingly. matcha is more balanced overall not bad! price is average read more

The drinks were very good and strong. I'll definitely be back! I got the Golden Banana Matcha with the Kuro Reserve blend at 75% sweetness. Next time I'll probably get the normal sweetness. Overall, it's definitely worth a try! read more
Be warned, this street is so busy and you don't want to drive down it. Find a way to park nearby and walk over if you're determined to go here. The positives are you can make an order online and it'll be ready quickly. The downside is the matcha wasn't very flavorful or worth the price. As far as matcha goes this was very underwhelming tbh. The hojicha pudding sounded enticing, but was a very strange texture (decent flavor). I don't think I'll be making my way back here. read more
Not surprise that another matcha place opened in the bay area but it doesn't stop us from trying this place. We went on Saturday around noon. No line so we got our order pretty quick. Really like how they offer the option to choose the type of blend. We ordered two drinks with house blend. They were good but we think the bright blend might be better for our taste. We'll come back next time for the bright blend. read more
This is some of the best matcha I have had in a while! I have been several time now so I have tried a variety of their drinks including: the 8 grams Einspanner (my personal favorite, creamy and smooth) and the drink I suggest for new matcha drinkers), golden banana matcha (also creamy and delicious with a delicious banana flavor), the brown sugar matcha (which tastes like boba and personally not my fave but still delicious, and the matcha latte (also delicious and a good go-to for matcha lovers). Their matcha is so yummy and smooth and the place is so cute. There is almost always a line when I go but the service is always so quick and you're never waiting more than 10 minutes even with a long line. Definitely think it's worth trying of you're in the area! read more
This might be my fav matcha spot near campus. Got the double matcha hot with no sugar. So creamy and smooth with a very strong matcha flavor and the matcha cream on top added the perfect amount of sweetness. Really large portion size for the price too! You can order in store or on snackpass. I only had to wait 5 minutes after ordering for it to be ready. Plenty of seating and love the atmosphere. Very green and peaceful. read more
Berkeley has been opening so many new matcha spots lately! 8 Grams is really close to campus and super convenient for students who want a quick drink or a cozy place to study. The ambience inside is cute and aesthetic, making it a great spot to hang out. When I went, it wasn't too busy and we ordered at the kiosk. I got the double matcha, which I thought was really good and strong, and honestly better than most of the matcha drinks I have tried around the Bay Area. Would recommend! read more
Great quality matcha with a few different types of matcha - great depiction of the taste profiles on their menu. We ordered the banana matcha with matcha mochi, which was less chunky than how the picture looks online. We also got the double matcha with matcha mochi, perfect flavor even on the default matcha version. I'd definitely come back to try the other versions. read more
solid matcha spot! clean ambiance, limited seating inside, and friendly staff. i got the regular kisu matcha latte with oat milk, which had a really vibrant green color and beautifully balanced flavor. it was on the more nutty/creamy side from what i could tell, which is my preference. if you have specific matcha preferences, they have other blends to choose from as well that are more umami, fresh, etc. and the up charge on those ones aren't as crazy as other places i've been to! if im being SUPER picky, they batch prep their matcha and i noticed that my matcha was a littleee tiny bit lighter in color than my friend's honey matcha latte, making me think there might be inconsistencies in the quality. however, i didn't think that it made a difference that most ppl would actually care about. read more

Passed by here after picking up some onigiri on the other side of the building. Got my banana matcha and 3 other drinks for the group and it didn't disappoint. By far the best matcha drink I've had. Even comparing to the famous one in SF Japantown. Not much to talk about service since you just mostly order through a kiosk. I'm assuming it's the thing now in Berkeley based on what I noticed. But talk about wait time..................... it's a bit of a wait since they were kind of busy before lunch time. Understood. They're just right by the campus so. That. The place just needs a little clean up but I guess overall it's ok. read more

Good solid matcha. Had just the right amount of sweetness and you can still taste the slight bitterness of the matcha in ever sip which helps keeps you away from flavor fatigue. The honeycomb matcha was so fun to eat and fresh. read more
This is new spot gives you the option to upgrade your matcha for different flavor notes! They get pretty busy, but drinks come out fairly fast and I like that their order board gives you a wait time estimate. The menu has a few different flavor combos to choose from like the creamy einspanner, trendy banana pudding, limited time honeycomb, and more. Be sure to check them out for your next matcha stop in the area! read more
Came here earlier in the week to try this new matcha place and absolutely loved it! The inside is very aesthetic with great lighting and decor. However, the space is a little spall so table seating is limited. I wouldn't recommend coming here to try and study for an extended period of time. As for their drinks, I loved how customizable all the options were. You can pick the blend of matcha as well as a variety of foams. Their matcha is high quality, and both the Banana Matcha and Einspanner were great. I'll definitely be back to try more of their menu!! read more
sooo glad this spot opened!! i know Berkeley has a lot of matcha spots but no question THISSS is my favorite spot. Quality sweeteners made in house, great service, and they have a MATCHA-CANO on the menu for the matcha lovers honestly they deserve all the praise was so excited for my drink i didn't even get a pic but will be back for sure (: read more

I'm giving this place a solid 4 stars overall. The ambiance alone is a 10/10, super cute, Japanese-inspired interior with a really calm, zen feel. It's beautifully done and definitely a space you want to sit in and enjoy your drink. Service was quick even though it was a bit busy. The staff was kind and helpful and answered any questions I had, and I also liked that you have the option to use a kiosk if you prefer to place your order that way. I really enjoyed all of the drinks I tried. The Haku - Balanced Blend is absolutely worth the extra 50 cents in my opinion. It adds a very creamy, umami flavor to the drink and doesn't have that grassy taste some matchas can have. That said, the quality of the matcha is still very good even if you go with the default Kiso - House Blend. One small downside for me was the Machi Matcha. The name felt a bit misleading, I was expecting chewy mochi pieces similar to boba, but instead it has more of a melted mochi texture (kind of hard to describe). The flavor itself was still very good and it was actually one of my favorites the first time I tried it. On my second visit, though, I ordered the Machi Matcha again and didn't enjoy it as much. This time it tasted a little grainy, which was a bit disappointing. That being said, this will still absolutely be a go-to spot for me. I look forward to trying more drinks and possibly some of the sweet treats they have. read more

Newest matcha spot that just opened last week. It was so busy when we went on Sunday however there were many people working and you could order ahead thru Snackpass. Loved that they offer three different matcha blends, but the sabi blend and the haku blend are extra charge. 8 grams einspanner ($7.75) - the creamiest but likely due to the cream top instead of the latte itself. However waaay too creamy I could barely taste the matcha. The cream top itself is more like a stiff cream. Honeycomb matcha latte ($7.75) - with the sabi blend was pretty good but would recommend getting it less sweet. Slightly gritty tho Golden banana matcha latte ($7.75) - tasted very artificial and barely any banana pudding? The space is cute but not that many seatings! read more

Needed a pick me up, so I got on yelp and discovered eight gram. Looked on DoorDash and found it! So I ordered one of their popular drinks, the golden banana matcha. I was a bit sceptical since some of the banana drinks can taste fake, but I was super surprised with the drink. It was refreshing and super tasty. This place made a really good impression on me since then I've been thinking of ordering a different drinks. will be ordering again! read more
