    Whole Roast Pork
    Emily N.

I gave Yum Cha Cafe a called and placed an order over the phone. Placed a $50 deposit over the phone and paid the rest at the store. Our order was on time and ready for pick up when we got there. The whole roast pork was really great. The skin is super crispy and seasoning was evenly flavored. My family really liked the roasted pork and will definitely ordered from Yum Cha Cafe again.

Cash only. Roast duck, roast pork, soy sauce chix. Usual suspects. A duck is near 20 bones now. When I moved to Sac in 2000 they were like 6.99. Lol. Times and inflation. Duck was ok. Sauce given is not as good as some. The duck had big pieces but kinda dry. Maybe they needed to cook them longer. Good duck should be moist and meat glistening with slight oil and dark brownish color. We used to come to this place often inside SF supermarket early 2000s cuz they were one of the few we found then. Now living here on my 20th year (worst due to Covid), we have found way more joints of all kinds of food and go-tos also. They have the combo plates and were serving those up long ago with lines. Now they kinda blocked the hot case area with chairs up and a security guy and a buddy sitting at a table. Weird. I guess you can still order combo Chinese boxes but at the end where the bbq and register is. Anyways for now it is order and gtfo! Lol. Maybe try their roast pork and soy sauce chicken. Lemon grass chix, honey glazed ribs. Custard tarts, congee $4.99, $6.99 duck noodle soup. Boba here too. I just didn't give them a pass on their duck. Good duck is a place on Broadway one of my wife's Mien coworkers mentioned. I would come here for that pork and chix. Gotta try other goodies here that I listed. Nice when we can sit in. Sigggggghhhhh!

    disgusting

Disgusting! Roasted pork have no crispy skin just a box of fat, 1 star should be over rated! , I would give 0 if that's option

CASH ONLY!! FOOD - Roasted pork: well seasoned, meaty, and not fatty. Just how I like my roast pork. $7.75/pound. 4/5 - Baked Egg Tart: flakey crust with sweet custard. Pretty good for the price! 3 for $1.89. 4/5 SERVICE Fast and fair. 3/5 FINAL THOUGHTS I come here whenever I need Asian-style meat such as roasted pork, roasted duck, BBQ pork, etc. I haven't tried their dim sum but the price is inexpensive. They also have boba, tea and smoothies.

    BBQ whole pig

We ordered BBQ whole pig for birthday party last Sunday, friends loves crispy skin and juice meatI love their roster duck,it got different flavor and I never bought roster duck from 99 Ranch market anymore. Roster pork are very tasty too,I heated them up with my Air fryer to keep them crispy, same way to heat roster duck.We had too much food for party, they were still taste good even leftover.Sesame Ball is my favorite snack or for breakfast

1 whole soy sauce chicken $6.99 and $1 side of rice (ate some)

Come here during lunch for the cheap hot food. Lunch time is when they are busy and the food is more fresh (not sitting dried out under the heat lamp). Less than $6 for a generous 2 item + rice or noodle side combo box. You can split the food up at least for 2 meals, cheaper than what you'd get at McDonalds these days! I also ordered a cake from here and I was pleasantly surprised that it looked and tasted great! I was debating between getting one from here or Pegasus across the street, but I took the gamble here since it's slightly cheaper. Service is blunt and not so great, but it is what it is. LOL

The rice wrapper was thin and the shrimp was meaty and fresh and had a good bite. The beef balls and shui mai were disappointing. The textures were too soft and didn't have much flavor. They were more like beef and shui mai paste. The sticky rice was good. I loved that they had salty egg yolks in them. The eggplant with shrimp paste is fried. This is different from what I'm used it and it felt too heavy. Overall, I'd go back but I'm also searching for other options. 8/10.

My husband and I lived in the Bay Area for a while before moving to Davis for school, so our standards are pretty high. Unfortunately this is not going to be my new go to. Although the flavors of the food were pretty OK, we found everything to be really soft. Our shrimp and chive dumplings were literally disintegrating and my chicken feet were too soft. The sticky rice, however, and the tripe were delicious sui mai, and ha gao were pretty good, with the sui mai being pretty juicy. We paid $100 for 10 dishes! I know prices have gone up everywhere but this felt pretty steep. Overall, I don't think we'd come back. I would rather go to South Sacramento and eat dim sum there and then get my Asian grocery shopping done. Restaurant itself looked like a standard Chinese dim sum restaurant. Nothing to write home about.

I've been coming to New Happy Garden for several years--back when it was just "Happy Garden"--and…read moreit used to be a spot I'd happily go out of my way for. The restaurant itself has always been large, spacious, and beautifully decorated with chandeliers--it's definitely a nice venue for events like weddings. Their taro turnovers have always been a favorite of mine, and even after moving farther away, I still found myself coming back just for them. A few months ago, my husband and I had a really pleasant experience here. We ordered a variety of dim sum and ended up taking some home because everything was so enjoyable. My husband typically orders the spicy orange chicken and has always been satisfied with it. The service during that visit was also great--the server was sweet, attentive, and we even had some fun conversations. Unfortunately, our most recent visit yesterday was a completely different experience. We came in around 11:15 AM on a Tuesday expecting a nice, casual dim sum date. I ordered har gow, siu mai, sticky rice, and shrimp balls with sweet and sour sauce, and we waited for more of the dim sum carts to come around. As usual, I ordered the spicy orange chicken for my husband. It was already off to a rough start when communication with our servers became difficult. There seemed to be a significant language barrier, and it was challenging to get our concerns across. Things went downhill when we received the "spicy" orange chicken. It was not spicy at all and, more importantly, it was severely overcooked--hard, dry, and honestly unchewable. We ordered chicken, not beef jerky. When we brought this up, the staff seemed fixated on the spice level rather than listening to the main issue. They insisted that the dish was already spicy and interpreted our concern as a request for "extra spicy." Both my husband and I can handle spice differently, but we could agree there was no spice present, and that wasn't even the primary problem--the texture was. They took the dish back, and we assumed it would be remade. Instead, it was quickly returned to us with some chili sauce sprinkled on top--the same exact overcooked chicken. I could tell it hadn't been remade because the same broken piece of chicken was still on the plate. At that point, we were frustrated and had lost our appetites. I took the dish to the register myself to explain that the issue was the texture and that the chicken was inedible. It finally seemed to click, and they apologized and offered to remake it, but by then, it felt too late. I'm not one to give third chances when something should have been handled correctly the first or second time. To their credit, they did not charge us for the dish and were apologetic, but the entire experience felt unnecessarily difficult and frustrating. That's not the level of service I expect when I'm paying to support a business. It's especially disappointing because this was meant to be our last visit before moving out of state, and it ended on such a sour note. Sadly, after this experience, I definitely do not see myself returning.

The cashiers taking orders were very nice and efficient, happy to answer any questions I had. I ordered 3 pineapple buns with filling, 2 sui mai, 2 shrimp ride noodle and a beef rice noodle. Most things are ready right when you order but because it's made fresh, when they run out there is a wait sometimes. When I got the pineapple buns in my hand they were still nice and warm, a decent size as well compared to some dimsum spots. The filling was nice and sweet, not the typical nai wong custard but a coconut, thicker filling that was nice and sweet. The bread was so soft as well and the crust was nice flaky and crunchy. It was very satisfying to bite into, no complaints here! 9/10 The sui mai was piping hot when I got it as well. They were very big and meaty and so fresh when I bit into them. Super juicy and fulfilling to eat! 8.5/10 Lastly the rice noodles, which are my favorite of all time dimsum foods. The shrimp one had such a good bite to it because of the shrimp. The rice noodles were thin and soft just how I like them! The beef one I wish had a bit more beef/beef flavor to it but still good! In addition the sweet soy sauce they give is a good balance of sweet and salty as well, would def recommend! 8.5 Overall I would definitely come back! Such a good place to pick up dimsum to go! I saw the sweet rice cake was very popular as well and would love to try that next time!

Normally, I hit up Yue Huang, but lately it's been giving "long wait, mild heartbreak." So I decided to branch out and found this hidden gem in Granite Bay...and let me tell you...BEST decision. You walk in and BAM!!!! Old school Chinese restaurant vibes. Red booths, classic decor, slightly run down in that "if these walls could talk, they'd recommend everything on the menu" kind of way. And if you know, you KNOW...that's when the food is about to slap. We came with a mission (aka hungry and slightly unhinged) and ordered: baked BBQ pork buns, shumai, har gow, shrimp rice rolls, pineapple baked custard buns, fried shrimp balls, and soup dumplings. Basically, if it could be steamed, fried, or stuffed...we said yes. It's clearly family run, which I love. Mom is running the show like a boss, kids are hustling, and since it was Mother's Day...CHAOS. Delicious chaos. Food flying out, servers holding trays of dumplings like treasures, stopping at your table and you're like "YES, THIS IS MY MOMENT"...and then they walk away to another table. Emotional rollercoaster. So many "Ooooh yay!" followed by "Ohhh man..." But honestly? It just built the suspense. Then OUR food arrived...and our eyes went WIDE. These dumplings are HUGE. Like, "one bite? absolutely not" huge. The BBQ pork buns were soft, fluffy, slightly sweet clouds of happiness. Har gow and shrimp rice rolls were perfectly steamed (no soggy sadness here ). Now, because it was busy, the shrimp had a bit of a split personality...some bites were perfectly snappy and delicious, others were just a little overcooked. Not tragic, just not living their absolute best life. But overall? Everything was GOOD. And then the check came...about $60 for ALL that food. I almost checked it twice like, "Ma'am...are you sure you charged me correctly?" Because that is a STEAL. What really got me though was the family. You could see the hustle, the stress, the love...all happening in real time. Even in the chaos, they were kind, smiling, and apologizing for the wait. That kind of heart hits different. Final verdict: great food, great value, and a whole lot of love. I'll definitely be back to try more of their main dishes. Until next dumpling craving...
