My arduous frame selection process between Gucci vs Dior
    Eva C.

6/3/18: 3 Stars for my son. A few months later, brought my son back out of convenience and prior good experience: however, while service remained friendly, had to drop a star for the EXTREME lack of selection for kids. I was hoping to have the frames at least covered by VSP ($150) allowance, but had to go with what's available and son likes Neubau "Harry Potter" frames. 1/18: 5 Stars on this day for myself. OMG! I Young's Optometry and particularly William, who went above and beyond the ordinary customer service as he was extraordinary, exemplarily. Here's why! My VSP plan only allows frames every 2 years so this year is important to me in selecting a place that had a variety of selections and possibly see me sooner than Monday. Mind you I called on the Friday before. From the initial call, he was pleasant, very helpful and patient. I don't think I've ever met anyone so patient, almost too patient ... LOL! But it's definitely a pro. I explained what I was looking for and will be going in later the same afternoon. Long Story Short, it took me forever to choose the frames with multiple criteria and what seemed like 100s of pairs constantly changing on my face. Let's just say it would have saved me endless hours of time and agony had I listened to him in the first place. Also wanted to add that Dr. Ngo, the optometrist was very nice, informative and knowledgeable. The entire staff were very kind and helpful. They have a wide variety and brands from Marc Jacobs and Tory Burch to Dior, Gucci and Tom Ford

Prices are reasonable. Dr. Ngo knows his stuff. The people are friendly. What else can one ask for?

Eric To, OD., FSLS is the best optometrist I've been to in a very long time. I recently switched…read morefrom Stein Optometry in Burbank to Lumen because Dr. To truly cares about his patients. The entire staff is amazing--super professional, the environment is very clean, and they have a beautiful, stylish selection of glasses. Dr. To recommended computer glasses for me, which had never been suggested during the years I went to Stein. I always felt my regular glasses were too strong when working close to my computer, since I sit pretty close to the screen and my nearsighted prescription made things uncomfortable at that distance. The computer glasses have made an incredible difference. I also switched to scleral contact lenses, and they've been a total game changer. My disposable contacts just don't compare--I used to experience some blurriness with them. Dr. To explained why that happens, and the staff walked me through how to properly care for the new lenses, including how to insert and remove them. I can't imagine going back to my old contacts now. The scleral lenses are extremely comfortable, stay in place, and are custom fit to my eyes. I highly recommend Dr. To.

1-Star Review: Absolute Nightmare - Avoid This Place Like the Plague…read moreI went in for a routine vision check and contact lens fitting, and left questioning everything about this practice. The "contract" or service agreement they pushed was a mess of vague language. Nowhere did it clearly state product viability, warranty terms, return policies, or what happens if the lenses or solution don't work for my prescription. When I asked for specifics on longevity, compatibility, and what coverage applied if something failed, the staff just shrugged and said "it's standard." Zero transparency. I signed under pressure without any real understanding of what I was actually getting. Communication was equally terrible. I left multiple messages and emails about follow-up care for my vision--questions about lens comfort, adjustment period, and when I should come back for a recheck--and got almost no response. The few times someone did reply, it was curt, incomplete, or completely ignored the details of my request. No one followed up on the care plan they vaguely mentioned during the appointment. I had to chase them repeatedly, which is the opposite of what you want when dealing with something as important as your eyesight. The employees' skill level and hygiene practices were the worst part. During the contact lens trial, I watched staff handle lenses with minimal care for cleanliness. Tools and cases didn't look properly sanitized between patients, and the way they "shared" or reused demonstration lenses and solution bottles across multiple people was outright unhygienic. One technician casually moved from one patient's eyes to the next without changing gloves or thoroughly cleaning the equipment. It felt reckless and unsafe. If this is how they handle something that goes directly on people's eyes, I have zero confidence in their competence or basic infection-control standards. Save yourself the frustration, the unclear paperwork, the ignored messages, and the serious hygiene risks. Go somewhere that actually communicates, follows up, and treats patient safety as non-negotiable. This experience was a complete failure on every level.

I called this office to inquire about a contact lens fitting and was genuinely shocked by how…read moreunprofessional the staff member was. After asking about availability, he bluntly replied, "I don't have any doctor today." I then asked a very basic question: how much my insurance would cover and what my out-of-pocket cost might be. Instead of offering assistance, he immediately responded with, "I don't know. I don't know how much you're going to pay. I don't know your plan," in a tone that clearly conveyed annoyance. I had already told him what insurance I have. When I asked whether he could check my benefits, he finally said he could, but not before muttering something under his breath. The entire conversation felt like I was inconveniencing him simply by calling. It was obvious he didn't want to be bothered doing the most basic parts of his job. Patients call medical offices every day to ask about insurance coverage, costs, and appointments. These are standard questions--not unreasonable requests. What was most astonishing was the audacity. If you work in a customer-facing role at a healthcare office, the bare minimum expectation is that you treat people with courtesy and professionalism. Instead, I was met with impatience, attitude, and a complete lack of customer service. If answering routine patient questions is that irritating, then perhaps customer service is the wrong line of work. I hadn't even become a patient yet, and the interaction was enough to make me take my business elsewhere.
