Sashimi Course

Wow! What a great dinner we had here. We were with a group of 11 and had a table in the back of the restaurant mostly to ourselves. From the outside the place does not look like much, and its not fancy on the inside, but we all enjoyed our meals. I got the chicken terriyaki dinner ($35). This came with a variety of items - miso soup, salad, an egg custard dish, dessert, etc. Others in the group had a variety of sushi and sashimi. At the end of the meal they brought out a special ice cream dessert for the birthday guy. We had 2 kids with us and the cook ended up coming out and let them pick a toy from a box. It was super memorable and have never seen this happen at a restaurant before! The kids were very happy!

After a very long day of traveling we needed food and wanted fresh sushi so we asked at the hotel for a recommendation. Yoshitsune was the. Lowest so off we went. It is inside a building so maps wanted us to go into a parking lot but I finally just asked someone and he took us to their front door. As soon as we walked in I knew it was going to be good. We were greeted by the sushi chefs and taken to a table with lots of welcomes and thank yous. We ordered several pieces of nigiri and they were all so fresh and amazingly delicious. I mean fabulous. Of course we don't don't get fish this fresh in Colorado so I'm always excited about fresh fish! The Toro was my favorite and the red snapper was a close second. We also tried the grated yam and it's not for me because of the texture but . . . The restaurant is simply decorated and pleasing to the eye. It was a wonderful introduction to Honolulu!

This restaurant is inside the Park Shore Hotel. It is quaint and fairly quiet. The food was good and Ms Tamiko was friendly and patient with good recommendations. It is a bit pricey so be prepared to spend.

Lunch at Yoshitsune while staying at Park Shore during my birthday staycation in Waikiki. Authentic menu, restaurant and service. This spot is tucked inside the hotel lobby so I had not actually heard of it before. Seated immediately and pointed towards the lunch special, which looked amazing, however I was with my daughter and she does not eat mushrooms and likes to share so we looked over the menu and picked out a couple of items. Everything was fresh and delicious. The tempura was some of the best I had ever had. The sashimi was also a really nice assortment and plentiful. While the menu has items priced fairly high, we were able to have a very affordable lunch! Beverages were available including tea, beer and wine, although we just had water after a long morning swim. Great spot!

I love this place. It's super traditional, affordable/wide range of prices from "cheap" to "overly expensive" and there's something for every one. They have an extensive menu with everything Japanese! We've tried their nigiri's, chirashi bowl, sukiyaki, miso glazed fish, tempura, udon, omakase. Everything is authentically Japanese. I LOVE their sukiyaki course. It's so good and not too sweet. They used such good beef too. I also go the chirashi bowl. It was so generous! Fresh raw fish, so plentiful. Their miso glazed butterfish is a must if you don't want to go the raw route. And their udon for our toddler was so good. He loved it. The tempura was fried to perfection, my FIL loved it. I love how extensive the menu is, but it's hard to pick bc everything is made so well here! Even the servers are Japanese and barely speaks English. The chefs are super nice too. We had a 1.5 year old toddler who couldn't hold still, so we took turns taking him to the lobby. The chef ran out with a box of hot wheels and let my son choose one. So thoughtful!! We try to come back every time we're in Waikiki. One of our favorite places.

Called in a reservation several days prior to going to Yoshitsune. The restaurant is located in the Park Shore Waikiki on the Makai end of Kapahulu Avenue. There is validated valet parking or you can park across the street at the zoo. The restaurant is located towards the rear of the hotel lobby. You enter through a noren (fabric curtain), and the first thing you see is the sushi bar. The sushi chef yells out "irasshaimase". There was no host, one of the servers greeted and escorted us to our reserved table. There were about 4 other tables with guests seated (with more tables near entrance in front of the sushi bar). The menu and dining utensils were already on the table. Our server came over and asked if we wanted anything to drink, so we requested water, green tea and BIL ordered a Coke. We ordered the sweet miso eggplant and edamame for starters. I ordered the Yoshitsune Bento with broiled Atlantic Salmon. Wifey ordered the Shizuka Gozen Bento with misoyaki butterfish and my son got the 8 piece Maguro Nigiri sushi. Our server brought us a complimentary house-made tofu appetizer. It was very unique, soft and like threads of noodles. The sweet miso eggplant was delicious! Our server said that the house-made tofu, sweet miso eggplant and the misoyaki butterfish are their specialties. Our server brought pickled vegetables and miso soup, followed by our entrees. My lunch was beautifully plated in a black lacquered partitioned bento box with Maguro sashimi, assorted tempura, vegetable nimono, broiled salmon and white rice. The entire bento was very flavorful and delicious! Both servers spoke with a Japanese accent were so friendly. In fact, besides the mainland tourists sitting adjacent to us, the diners at the other tables all spoke Japanese. They must be regulars, because the two servers appeared to know them. Our meals came with ice cream, so I ordered green tea ice cream. A little bitter, a little sweet, it was a perfect way to end our meal. The same server that escorted us to our table walked us to the restaurant's entry and held open the noren and thanked us for dining with them. We paid for our valet ticket ($5) at the hotel's front desk and gave the valet our ticket. It was a very enjoyable lunch, probably one of the more authentic Japanese restaurants on Oahu. We will definitely be back to try their Kamameshi dishes and their tiered Chirashi plate. Highly recommend that you try this restaurant and be sure to call in a reservation.

Homemade silken tofu
tippy w.

First off, me and my family had an amazing time at this restaurant. The homemade silken tofu is so soft and has a great taste, the mackerel was crispy and savory, and the shrimp tempura was perfectly crispy with generous amounts of dipping sauce. The food was very authentic and felt like I was back in Japan! I would 100% recommend this place to anyone craving real, homemade food!

Chawanmushi
Dina I.

In the middle of Waikiki, where plastic leis, watered-down cocktails, and overpriced fusion dominate the scene, Yoshitsune quietly keeps doing what it's always done: serve honest, traditional Japanese food with zero pretension. The chawanmushi arrives first, warm, delicate, and impossibly smooth. A blank canvas, if you're bold enough to improvise. We were. A scoop of fresh uni, ordered as sashimi, gently placed on top. Silky meets briny. Pure harmony. The fried oysters are crisp and clean, comforting but not heavy. Just the right bite. The sashimi is confident and unadorned--pristine slices, expertly cut, no unnecessary garnish. Just fish, done right. Then the steak hits the table, sizzling and fragrant, still whispering from the heat. Our kids didn't ask questions. They just dug in and didn't stop until the plate was wiped clean. We've returned here again and again over the years. Different trips, different moods, same result. Yoshitsune is tradition that never feels tired. It's not trying to reinvent the wheel. It's just reminding you how good the wheel already was. No flash, no show. Just craft, care, and food that keeps calling you back, even in the heart of Waikiki.

Miso butterfish breakfast with imperial upgrade is amazing. I it. There are so nice and the food is amazing. Opens at 8am. Such a tasty way to start the day

miso butterfish, chawanmushi, shrimp tempura, broiled mackerel, chazuke

10/10, would recommend! Me and my family have been repeat customers over many years now and always have an amazing experience dining here! The food always tastes like it was made with love and care. The servers and owners are always welcoming and friendly. This time we got the homemade tofu (a must try), chawanmushi, shrimp tempura, tsukimi udon, chazuke, butterfish misoyaki, and the broiled mackerel combo. We felt like we got transported back to Japan. Give this place a try if you're looking for authentic Japanese cuisine!

Two tiered chirashi
Kristen W.

Incredibly delicious traditional Japanese restaurant inside the Park Shore Waikiki Hotel. I never would've thought to go here but we got a recommendation from a family friend. We called ahead to make a reservation for a table of 8. When we arrived around 6, the restaurant was half full. I ordered the two tier chirashi and it was so so so good. The fish was fresh and paired so great with the sushi rice. The sushi rice had the perfect amount of rice vinegar and overall seasoning. Staff is friendly and attentive. The restaurant is a bit on the older side and somewhat dark. We'll be coming back to try other dishes and to order the same thing!

And S.

This restaurant is truly exceptional. The food, ambiance, and service were all top-notch.

Ahi sashimi

I had really good service. I went alone and was treated so well. The price was reasonable, and the ahi sashimi was the best I have had. I will be going again. Very quiet and personal.

Fantastic Sushi, Sizzling Ribeye, and Hospitality That Keeps Us Coming Back!…read more BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front): Outstanding sushi, delicious Japanese cuisine, exceptional service, and a welcoming atmosphere! Ginza Sushi is a terrific alternative to the crowded restaurants of Waikiki, offering a wonderful dining experience just a short distance away. Our first visit was so memorable that returning for another meal was an easy decision! The Details: During a previous visit to Oahu, we discovered Ginza Sushi and enjoyed such a fantastic meal that I made a mental note to return. Well, here we are again! This time, several colleagues and I decided to revisit this little gem for dinner, and I'm happy to report that Ginza continues to impress! Located at 310 Kamakee Street in Honolulu, Ginza Sushi is conveniently situated outside the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, yet close enough to make the trip worthwhile. If you're looking for excellent Japanese cuisine without fighting the Waikiki crowds, this place deserves your attention! Ginza has relocated within the past year, moving from its former location just down the street into a newer, upgraded space. The new restaurant is a definite improvement, with an inviting atmosphere that complements the quality of the food and attentive service. Tonight, our group decided to share several sushi rolls and appetizers, along with a mixed chirashi bowl served over seasoned sushi rice. First to arrive was the sizzling prime ribeye! What a wonderful presentation! Beautifully seared slices of ribeye arrived on a piping-hot cast-iron platter, resting atop a bed of Maui sweet onions and sautéed mushrooms, with a generous pat of herb butter melting over the beef. The aroma alone was enough to get everyone's attention! A delicious combination of savory beef, sweet onions, and earthy mushrooms. Next came a plate of gyoza, another excellent addition to our shared meal. We also enjoyed a beautifully presented Rainbow Roll, featuring a colorful assortment of seafood and avocado layered over a sushi roll, finished with a generous sprinkling of bright orange fish roe. Fresh, colorful, and every bit as appetizing as it looked! The mixed chirashi was another welcome addition to the table, offering an assortment of seafood served over seasoned sushi rice. Unfortunately, I became so engrossed in the food and conversation that I neglected my usual photographic responsibilities! Somehow, I only managed to capture pictures of the sizzling ribeye and Rainbow Roll. Apparently, my appetite was working considerably faster than my camera! One of Ginza's greatest strengths, however, is its service. The staff are absolutely wonderful! Friendly, attentive, accommodating, and genuinely eager to ensure their guests have an enjoyable experience. You can tell these folks take pride in what they do. That commitment to hospitality is reflected in everything from the food presentation to the restaurant's welcoming ambiance. It's always encouraging to return to a restaurant after a memorable first visit and discover that the experience wasn't a fluke. Ginza Sushi has now impressed me twice, and I fully expect there will be a third visit whenever my travels bring me back to Honolulu! Maybe even a third visit this trip...! Great sushi, delicious food, wonderful people, and a location away from the tourist crowds. What's not to love? Mahalo, Ginza Sushi! Keep doing what you're doing, because you're doing it exceptionally well!

It just so happens it fell during the weekend of the Maguro Fair. Upon ordering our toro sushi, I noticed from the first bite that the fish was extremely stringy and rubbery tasting... My friend also wanted to celebrate my Birthday here but there was no acknowledgment at all, when she had a whole group of people singing for her when we celebrated her here previously. I have already told everyone around me about my terrible experience and will not want to celebrate any occasion here in the future. I didn't even want to tip but felt bad and left it as a severance pay that I will never be dining here again... We also had a frustrating experience with valet parking. When we paid our bill, our server took our valet ticket to get it validated but never brought it back. When we asked about it, the initial reaction was almost as if we had misplaced it ourselves. They eventually found it, but the whole situation could've been handled better. And honestly, I'm still not sure what the point of validation was when we had to pay $10 anyway. Overall, the sushi was definitely the highlight, and I enjoyed the meal. Open table doesn't take reservations for a party more than 4 so I called and was able to make a reservation over the phone. It was great because they synced it with my open table account and I got my points. It's a small restauranted located right next to Tonkatsu Kuro. You can park at Ward or at Whole Foods. It's all counter seating and you order everything through a QR code that takes you to toast tab. There aren't any servers that check on you on a regular basis. Everything came out pretty fast. We order a variety of food: rolls, chicken skewer, nigiri and side dishes. You can choose to have the rolls served all at once or one at a time for freshness. I was so hungry I requested to have my 6 rolls all at once and finished it in less than 5 minutes. They have preset menus for nigiri and rolls so if there are any rolls you want to try you need to order ala carte. The fish tasted fresh and clean. The one roll I wasn't really impressed with is the scallops. Overall, it was a great experience. It was intimate and quiet.

Doraku has one of my favorite happy hours from 4-6pm everyday. I recently came by with some friends…read moreto catch up and talk story, and Doraku is the perfect spot for that. I love their small shared plates (especially during happy hour)! Craft cocktails are $4 off and my favorite is their lychee martini or the smoky negroni. On the happy hour for food, my favorites are the salmon carpaccio, spicy salmon handroll, agedashi tofu, shishito peppers, and the chicken karaage. Other must-haves are the hamachi garlic roll and misoyaki butterfish. I love the ambiance here and the service is always great too.

I also don't understand how Yelp lists this place as a "good for kids". It's not. There wasn't a kids' menu and the dishes were not kid-palate friendly (other than maybe the basic California style hand roll). For example, the fried tofu had shredded ginger on top that permeated the dish and the karaage had a very mild (but present!) note of spice that reminded me a bit of buffalo sauce. Our waiter didn't even give us a heads up or point us in the direction of any dishes to consider for the kids (surely we must not be the only family who has brought kids to this restaurant). Lastly, I understand that the tempura brownie is popular but after tasting the "tempura" on the tofu I'm sure the brownie is just the star that shines through. The "tempura" on the tofu was gummy and not the authentic Japanese tempura we are used to (my husband, who is part Japanese, said to me "What is this?! Cornstarch?"). This is probably a great restaurant for drinks and hanging out with some adult friends but the rolls and appetizers were just not to our tastes. We were also sat outside when the restaurant was near empty inside and out (we went around 4PM) and it was a hot day (though the AC wasn't particularly cool enough for my preference inside either).

There were standouts and overall we loved the meal. A local id gets the 10% service fee removed which was nice. I would recommend the $150 lunch omakase - I don't think the $50 abalone dish was worth the upgrade.

Every piece of sushi was beautifully presented not overwhelming. You can really tell the chefs put a lot of thought into the balance of flavors and textures. One of my favorite bites was a sashimi piece topped with something that looked like finely grated cheese (not sure what it actually was), but it melted perfectly with the fish and added a really unique savory flavor. The chefs and staff also had a good sense of humor. At one point they served kinki fish and jokingly explained that the English translation sometimes gets called "idiot fish," which got everyone laughing at the counter. The omakase is definitely on the pricier side, but the quality, presentation, and overall experience made it very satisfying. If you're looking for a refined sushi experience with great service and beautifully crafted bites, this place is worth the splurge.
