Came to Denver for a work trip and had this spot in mind and so glad I got to go! It's a little small but very clean and tastefully decorated. Staff was super friendly, attentive, constantly filled my hot green tea, and orders were out quickly. I sat at the sushi bar and was given a fresh plate of wasabi and ginger. The menu was diverse and I liked ordering from the sheet. The rolls didn't have a ton of rice but were loaded with fish. The spicy mayo was actually spicy! The miso was the show stopper compared to any other sushi spot. Tons of miso flavor, plenty of tofu, and loaded with seaweed. The chef was really nice and happy when I said I made the effort to come try it out. If you're in the Denver/Thornton area, it's definitely worth checking out! read more

This place is a great little hidden gem. A small little spot in a strip mall that has traditional sushi bar vibes. Warm little space with maybe 8 tables and 6 stools at the bar. The service is on point. You're welcome with a warm greeting as soon as you walk in. They have a very nice selection of sushi to choose from, including a whole board if specials. We started with the Age-dashi Tofu and House made gyoza. Both were delicious and well cooked. The cornstarch crust on the tofu was hot and crispy with a soft center that melted in your mouth. The gyoza were well seasoned and nicely cooked as well. A beautiful crisp bottom with a soft steamed top. We had a few different rolls. The California, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and spider roll. The spider roll was very good! The soft shell crab was cooked perfectly. California roll was good. Not great. A little small. The spicy tuna is not traditionally what I'm used to. It's just a piece of fish with some hot sauce on it. Not bad, but not what I expected. The same could be said for the shrimp tempura roll. I'm used to shrimp tempura rolls being bigger and filled with more ingredients. Theirs is simply a piece of shrimp tempura in a roll. Nothing else. All of the nigiri that we ate was extremely good!! Fresh, flavorful, and beautiful to look at! the unagi and seared tuna were my favorite, but EVERYTHING was great! Overall, this place was very good! I would definitely recommend 9/10!! read more

Hidden in a nondescript strip center, this tiny restaurant is a hidden gem in Thornton and a true find for foodies! Every dish was spot on, from the agedashi tofu (the best I've ever had), to the house-made gyoza, amazing rolls...even the edamame (both plain and spicy) arrived steaming and freshly made. My girls also loved the udon, a simple dish that's hard to find done right and they nail it here. The staff here is super friendly and accommodating, warm and welcoming. Decor is simple but clean, and I love the cool Yonsei logo too of a badass samurai face! The food was really good. The fish tasted fresh and the texture was melt in your mouth soft for the ahi and the salmon. My daughter likes tamago (egg omelette) so she usually gets that at all sushi places. She really enjoyed that. Our favorite dish was the Hawaiian poke. It was no frills, cubed ahi tuna that tasted fresh with sweet onions and the sauce was so good! There was a seaweed salad on it which isn't traditionally found on Hawaiian poke but I liked it a lot so we had 2 orders of the poke! We also got some hand rolls too. I'll try the other types of rolls next time. The gyoza and was house made and I could tell. The meat filling was plentiful and very tasty. The food was absolutely fantastic you could taste all the ingredients labeled on the menu description. But the lunch box is the way to go the tempura was hot, crispy and perfect temperature along with a delicious salad, California roll and a bread crumb fried hamburger patty topped with a brown sauce and mayo was the perfect combination I will be thinking about this good until I get to experience it again. We had gone to the restaurant location thinking it was the old establishment but was pleasantly surprised at how the new owners had changed things up. The interior was so much brighter and it was very welcoming. We asked them for recommendations on their specialties rolls. They recommended Dynamite Nabe, the Yokozum roll and the Red Samurai. I heard about Yonsei in Thornton and while I was in the area decided to check it out. It's tucked into a very busy strip mall but don't let that detour you as the food is very authentic and exceptional. I particularly enjoyed the tempura and sushi that came with my Tanuki bento. The tempura was light, crispy, and had great variety of vegetables and shrimp. The California roll was fresh and the salad/dressing was excellent. The menchi katsu was good however, I think it has room for improvement like softening up the meat texture and adding a bit more seasoning. The panko breading was a bit underwhelming too (almost seemed like it was precooked and warmed up in the deep fryer before serving so it lost it panko-i-magic). With that said, I'd try it again. Service was by far the best part of my meal. The owner's hospitality made me feel like I was actually in Japan having lunch. Very attentive, polite, and authentically Japanese. This restaurant has only been open for 2 months. I suggest you get there soon as it will be very popular as more people seeking authentic Japanese sushi, dishes, and service discover Yonsei.
