High quality fish and great portions. I wish there were more rolls that didn't have either cream cheese or fried asparagus, there weren't many fresh roll options. The sashimi and nigiri were great. The piece of fish on the nigiri is easily double maybe even triple the size of a typical sushi place. The size of the restaurant made us feel rushed though. We ate fairly quickly and wanted to chat for a moment but the hostess was yelling that they needed a table for two and when I looked around all the tables were taken so we left. If they had more fresh roll options and we didn't feel as rushed this would get 5 stars.

Everything was surprisingly good for being in Denver, well Thornton in this case. The only thing I thought could've been better was the miso soup. It had umami but needed a little salt or soy sauce. Service was good and quick. The decor and atmosphere was on point. The chef even let me video him cutting up a tuna. The overall experience was pleasant. Definitely recommended.

Yonsei is a new personal favorite of mines and I'm so happy that it's like 8 minutes away from us. This might be the best place for sushi in Colorado (even better than some places in Cali). Prices are reasonable and the fish tastes fresh. You do not need to pay an arm and a leg for sushi in Colorado. If you're from Denver, this is worth a drive. This is truly a hole in the wall. First off, I love the whole samurai theme from the decor to the name of the rolls. Second, the staff is fantastic. They're so sweet and attentive. The sushi was fantastic. Each roll felt like butter and melted in your mouth. The unagi was so delicious. The toro was well done. We ordered the ronin and black samurai and they were so tasty. The salmon and hamachi tasted really well together. Truly a sushi wizard. Even something as simple as the spicy tuna roll was phenomenal. The mussels were drool worthy with enough cheese and spices. I'm not a big seafood fan so I love it when I can't taste the sea. My partner and I plan to try as much of the menu as possible. This is our go to place for sushi in CO.

Wanted to check out the Sushi scene in Thornton, I was impressed with the 4.9 Yelp rating after 80 reviews. First off, if I could give 3.5 stars that would be my preference but unfortunately Yelp does not allow half star increments. The restaurant itself is fine, the staff are friendly, the interiors is very clean and relaxing, and the prices are solid. Why the 3 star rating then? My wife ordered the chirashi bowl and I went with a variety of nigiri orders. The slices of fish were very generous so thumbs up there. The quality though was where I had to knock it down a bit. The fish itself was not premium sushi grade in my opinion. The uni wasn't high grade or really fresh. The tail section of the ama ebi was..shrimpy in flavor. Premium sweet shrimp should be briny and sweet, not shrimpy in taste. The heads though were fried perfectly. The Nice drink menu and we found a great sake to share. The Unagi Eel was good, and the scallop mayo was nice. Overall it was okay, the prices were great, the portions were generous, and maybe we will try cooked dishes next time. I do want to support them and try again.

20260207 table two around 7pm While living in Japan for 3 years and then moving back to the states I've been trying to find a place and that fresh sushi and tasted amazing. And this right here was by far the best sushi spot I had in a while. The food was amazing the staff were friendly. My only criticism would be having booster seats and a kids menu. That is all. I will be coming back here. PSA have a reservation this place gets packed

I was impressed. The sashimi was especially fantastic! All of the rolls were good. This place and Hana Matsuri are my two favorite places to get sushi in the area. The place itself is small, I like the decorations and overall vibe. It's kind of hipster, with the decor, reggae music and cost. You can tell the people who work there care about your experience. The food came out well spread out, so you continuously eat. Our waitress was nice and always had a smile. I will be back & I definitely recommend you try it. Happy eating!!

WAY overpriced & barely any food. Apparently their Bento Boxes "used" to be $14 & are now $18-$20. I still decided to give them a shot. Food was mediocre if anything. Shrimp tempura & miso soup were not that great at all. Didn't even eat the soup it was so bad. I give this place a HARD PASS.

The food quality was superb. And the portions were substantial and exceeded the value for the money. The service was fantastic. Everyone was very attentive and our food arrived in a timely manner. This place is small, but clean, comfortable, and not loud, even when full. We will definitely go back!

Omg everything was delicious the chu-toro was melt in your mouth. All the rolls had so much fish in them and also the fish was the freshest I've ever had in colorado and maybe even east coast? Service was friendly and non invasive. And the atmosphere was great i think they partnered with an artist: tokyo hiro? For their logos and storefront design. All in all best sushi in colorado hands down.

Hands down the best sushi I've had in Colorado. I was craving sushi and tempura while out running errands, so I turned to Yelp. Luckily, Yonsei was less than 5 minutes away, so we thought we'd check it out. So glad we did! Let's start with the sushi - wow! The salmon and tuna were amazing, the specialty rolls had ingredients that complimented each other perfectly (and it didn't feel like these rolls were packed with stuff just because), and each roll had just the right amount of rice. All the rolls were good, but I particularly liked the salmon avocado roll and the Shogun roll. I also appreciated that there we lunch specials on Saturday. I went with the Huli Huli Chicken Bento. The bento box had so much for the price. The shrimp and vegetable tempura was light and crunchy (not overly breaded, which was fantastic, the chicken was super tasty, and the soup/salad rounded off the meal perfectly (bonus points for the 4 pieces of California roll too). Everything was so good and appropriately priced, the staff were so friendly and helpful, and the vibes were good. So excited to come back and try out more!

Was on the hunt for good sushi and came across Yonsei and their good reviews. We decided to give them a try to see if they might become our new go-to sushi spot. We were impressed. First thing I noticed was that the menu wasn't super extensive, but was hoping that was because the fish was all fresh. We ordered several rolls (red samarai, Ozeki, and shrimp tempura with cucumber added), miso soup, and the bacon fried rice. The rolls were very good and the fish all tasted fresh (not watery from being previously frozen). I personally liked the Red Samarai the best. The thin-sliced jalapeños on top added a nice crunch and contrast of flavor. The miso was very good too. I thought the bacon rice was good, but I don't think I'd order it again. The bacon was thick and smoky and there were a few rinds that were a bit too tough to eat. It's definitely a nice side to the meal though. The place is fairly small, but it was busy when we were there and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The staff was very friendly. The woman behind the counter expoing was ontop of her stuff. They were in the weeds, but she never seemed flustered and kept a good demeanor for the guests sitting right in front at the sushi bar. That impressed me. She also labeled everything so nice on the packaging which I really appreciate. It's nice not having to figure out which roll is which. The special rolls are slightly more $ than average, but I'll pay an extra $5 or so to get good quality fish. I like their add-on options, but if I had a recommendation - can you offer spicy mayo as a side? We'll definitely be back and it's a small business I highly recommend trying out.

The food has been consistently excellent both times we've visited. The bone-in wings with the Jalapeño Gold BBQ sauce were fantastic, and the Cali-style chicken burrito with tomatillo salsa was absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and made with care. What really stood out, though, was the atmosphere and the people. This was only our second visit, yet three employees--two younger staff members and one other lady--recognized us immediately and seemed genuinely excited to see us back. It wasn't the forced "customer service" kind of friendliness; it felt sincere. They greeted us warmly, remembered us, and made us feel like regulars after only one prior visit. In a world where so many places make you feel like just another transaction, that kind of hospitality leaves an impression. The food brought us back, but the people are what will keep us coming. Billy Birch has earned a repeat customer in us, and we're already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend.
