This place was really disappointing and I wanted to like Yolk, but I didn't. Upon entering, we noticed the middle entrance door was broken down to just a stub of metal pipe. Ok... The man that sat us was very nice and friendly. Service was average (and that's a bit of a stretch) as our waitress did virtually nothing beyond take our order. We had to wait quite awhile to place our order and the busboy was more attentive than our server...and it was not busy at all. Food was good though! I had a Works omelet. The menu says 5 egg omelets and somehow I don't fully believe that. When I make an omelet at home and use 3 eggs, it takes up half a dinner plate. If I made an omelet with 5 eggs, geez...I can't imagine how huge that would be. Restrooms here are absolutely filthy. Dirty and smelly and really badly patched up. The stall I used, the door lock closure was a backwards screw with a washer on the end. I've been in nicer gas station bathrooms. When you're charging $20 for an omelet and $5 for coffee, I would think you can make proper repairs vs. the screw/washer combo. This place is a DUMP! We arrived at approximately 10:30 am. You'd think there would be someone available to keep their facilities clean. After all, it's a BREAKFAST place where traffic is higher during BREAKFAST. Their women's bathroom was dirty and smelled. The paint on the sink is chipping. The walls were dirty. There was tissue on the floor. It was awful. But that's not the worst part. I ordered the sirloin steak and eggs. I always scan my food before eating it. Always. And, I'm so glad that I did. I found a ROACH LEG on top of my eggs! I studied it and studied it. I rationalized that it could be remnants from the skillet. Nope! The good thing about growing up poor is YOU KNOW these things. It was definitely a roach leg. The server (who was so sweet, by the way) apologized and took it back. The manager took 50% off of my meal for the inconvenience. My brother is a chef. He said, "Forget the discount! You should've sued the place because you weren't sure if you'd consumed the roach!" Good point. There are MUCH nicer Yolks around Chicago. PLEASE AVOID THIS ONE! I ordered pick up the morning of 3/2/26. The manager was the cashier. I asked if utensils were in the bag. He guaranteed they were. They were not in the bag.I was given butter that was already open. He made an excuse for the butter being open. He said the heat makes it open and there was nothing he could do about that. Maybe bag it separately? The yogurt was soupy and did not taste good. Maybe juice from the berries were not drained. Not sure because it usually comes out perfect. I paid $27 for yogurt and oatmeal plus a 20% tip on a carry out order. I expect things to be right or to offer to make it up. He did not. There was not enough jelly for two pieces of toast. I've kind've had an in and out of love thing with Yolk. I find their food to be pretty good. Today i had an All Star Combo. I don't usually get that for breakfast. Usually i get a veggie skillet with poached eggs and some well cooked bacon mixed in. Pretty much my diner standard go to. But Yolk makes you order (and pay) for everything in your skillet à la carte. Spinach, tomatoes, onions, bacon, broccoli--each one dings your total, and you end up paying like $24 for a breakfast skillet. So today i went with the $17 all star combo thinking I'd save a couple bucks. It's got 2 eggs, 2 sausages (their sausage is much better than it used to be), two strips of bacon (perfectly cooked), and either pancakes, French toast, or waffle. I had French toast and it was pretty good. I also got a cup of coffee. Total with tip (20%) was over $28. Is this a place that serves pretty good, not ground breaking, food? Yes. Could i have made breakfast at home and saved a few bucks? Of course. All of that said, i don't think the price matches the quality here. I think they're honestly a dollar or two per breakfast more than they should be. I think that with the boom in reasonably priced breakfast spots in Oak Park over the last year or two, Yolk is not near the top of the heap like it was when it first opened here. Call to speak to a manager they were not available . The person took my number no call back . Called them the next day the manager act like they were to busy to call me back and the item missed is not a big deal . First stop when I got to Chicago to one of my daughters favorite restaurants. We were seated immediately in a cute booth. Environment was nice and very clean. On to the food, there were so many great options. I ordered the corned beef hash, I must say it was only ok, the corned beef lacked seasoning, but potato's and eggs were great. My cousin had the build your own skillet with chorizo, spinach, and cheddar cheese it was amazing. My daughters had the Yolk All Star, which is 2 eggs, bacon and French toast of your choice. They got red velvet & cinnamon roll French toast and they both loved it. I definitely recommend this restaurant and I'll definitely go back. read more

Had the chance to have breakfast at Yolk Oak Park today. There was another business at this location last time I was in the area but I decided to dine in anyway. I was seated in a spacious booth with a menu and water was brought immediately. Though there were several breakfast options I ordered an omelette with ham, cheddar cheese, mushrooms and green pepper. My sides were pancakes and cheesy grits. FOOD QUALITY Everything in the mean was done well. The eggs were fluffy, the veggies were fresh and but not undercooked, and the pancake were of good size and taste. I'm not a grits eater but the cheesy grits were delicious and something I would definitely order again. My meal was accompanied by a fresh glass of orange juice. SERVICE My server greeted me was attentive as she took my order. She checked in me a few minutes after I began eating to see if I was satisfied. OVERALL I would definitely recommend Yolk to anyone for breakfast. Not so busy that there's a wait. Upbeat 80's-90's music in the background that wasn't disturbing for someone who might prefer a quiet experience. The return trip was about as average as the first trip. Conformation that this is a national chain so not coming back for average food. I had the chilliqules which seemed to be one of the specialities. The good The sala Verde was stand out and the best part of the meal. The bathrooms sinks actually have warm water and paper towels.. The eggs churriso and coffee were all average. No fresh cream for the coffee. The chips were soggy and sloppy. Not sure if they sat or what but good chilliqules still have a crunch. Yolk is a great chain! The food is always so good! 1st time at the Oak Park River Forest location. I got the Rickey Omelet and my partner got the Corned Beef and Eggs. Our server was super sweet. The lady who brought out our food spilled the whole tray of our food; the 1st time brought out our food. My partner got syrup all over her shirt because of the error. It must be a challenge for a restaurant to find new ways to elevate "breakfast." There are a few clear obstacles. Firstly, the raw materials used to make breakfast don't particularly cost less than those to make other meals, yet patrons feel as if breakfast should be inexpensive. Secondly, while there are regional and ethnic specialties in breakfast offerings, there is a set of "classic" breakfast expectations shared by most people and that can make it difficult for a restaurant to put their own stamp on a breakfast menu. Yolk has easily cleared these hurdles and offers a menu that will please a wide range of diners and an overall experience that makes breakfast feel special. My mom was going to be a hard sell-- Yolk occupies the space long used by her beloved Grandma Sally's (the place she relied on for egg white omelettes with feta and spinach served with tomato on the side.) After perusing the menu, she specifically and deliberately ordered exactly that (with a single pancake on the side.) It was perfect. I scoured the menu for something I could order as-is. I toyed with several options before pulling the trigger. My frittata was spot on. It was stuffed with smashed avocado, bacon, jalapeño, and scallions and drizzled with sour cream (served with a side of green sauce.) The balance of ingredients was such that no single thing felt gratuitously added. You know how you spend a whole meal trying to achieve one balanced (perfectly composed) bite? I had bite after bite after bite that was exactly "that." My husband David ordered an omelette-- five egg omelette. It was almost too big for him to finish... an experience that he found curiously amusing (being a guy with a huge appetite.) We used the 10% off coupon found here on Yelp. Service? Fine dining level perfection. Jennifer was attentive without being overbearing (and happens to make a mean cappuccino!) Yolk has a gluten-free bread option and a cosy southern-inspired vibe. The signature hot sauce is not at all fiery and is full of flavor. It would be perfect with a basic egg and potatoes. There is an option to upgrade to fresh berries for $1.50. I took it and was delighted with the quality and the portion. Overall, our whole party was delighted with the quality of the food, with the portions, with the atmosphere, and with the service. When ice stopped in, it was on a Saturday, so it was pretty busy. Despite that, seating happened after only a 10 minute wait. The waitress was nice, and as fast as she could be managing all of her tables. The food, to me, was average. It was filling, and the French toast that I had was good, but it honestly was nothing special or that I would make a point to frequent. We don't have Yolk in St. Louis, so when we visit, I try to be sure to stop in. This was my first time at the Oak Park location and I loved being able to sit on the patio. I found myself out west of the city for an appointment. Once I was free I took advantage of the situation. I so love checking out new neighborhoods. It was a beautiful morning, sunny and pretty. I wanted to get breakfast in Oak Park. I saw a couple of cute places but parking was difficult. I circled around and ended up just meandering in the commercial and residential areas. Oak Park is such a lovely area. I ended up heading over to Grandma Sally's in River Forest. Sadly it is no longer and is now another Yolk Restaurant. I have enjoyed my breakfasts at the downtown locations and saw they had a parking lot so I headed in. The girl at the front was very friendly. The guy doing the bussing was very helpful. And my server Stavros was incredibly sweet and attentive. I asked for my toast extra toasted and he made sure to ask if it was ok. Nice follow through. The restaurant was not busy. Everything seemed very clean. There is an option to download the menu if you choose. The big booths had dividers that went all the way up. I felt very comfortable. However, I wish there had been a little bit more decor or attempt to create a more interesting atmosphere. I found the choice of 80's rock music to not be very breakfast-y. I ordered a Veggie Skillet and it was delicious. The potatoes were cooked perfectly. The sourdough toast was so good. The portion size was large so I brought half home for dinner. I really wanted to dine at a small local spot but was not disappointed by this Yolk location. Stavros and the man bussing really made a great impression. The most I've ever spent on a breakfast for two people...$52. Esp. since it was only 2 egg dishes and two coffee's...no juice, no sides. Their prices are high. Coffee was $3.50.
