Tried this place on a recommendation. It was amazing. I had the teriyaki chicken bowl and an egg roll. The regular size was more than filling. The chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The egg roll was tasteful and crunchy. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and our order was taken. Within 10 mins our food was in front of us. The restaurant is a small one but maximized seating area is a plus. Not a noisy restaurant by any means. I'll definitely be back to try the other dishes

This place has been here forever. I remember coming here in high-school and they are still busy. So that's a good sign. Loved how they updated their menu board and even the combo deals. Would say their chicken stir fry was a little too saucy and not enough rice, but I shouldn't complain as most restaurants now cut back on proteins. Always a favorite, I'd highly recommend adding this favorite to your routine takeout.

I've been going here for like 15 years the previous owners were so friendly. They sold it and some recipes stayed the same others changed in flavor but overall it's still good.

The atmosphere itself is very casual and makes me feel at home. The place is also very clean and well organized. Main dishes are comprised of rice bowls or yakisoba (a type of stir fried noodles from Japan), with some type of meat (chicken, beef, or shrimp) that are prepared in many different ways (curry, katsu (deep fried), teriyaki, orange, lemon, etc.) Personally, I've always ordered the number #1 large teriyaki chicken with light sauce. Today, I've also decided to grab a side dish in crab angels and they were delicious as expected. The people here really strive to give you the best customer service along with great food. Trust me when I tell you that they are very generous in trying to feed you. Just look at the size of the bowl I got! This place makes everything fresh so the wait can be a little long but it is very much worth the wait. One piece of advice I will give is that you should order ahead on the phone so when you get there, the food will be ready! I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for great Japanese food!

I've past by here quite a bit during my college days and didn't really know about this place. Well back in the area for a while and wanted to see what kind of places people were recommending in the area. Ive been to Japan lived there, been all over asian. I'll tell you this, it is NOT japanese food at all. They may have 1 or 2 items (yakisoba) that you may find in Japan or Japanese restaurants but these are more American style "asian" fast food more toward Chinese style. Got a combo C to try a few things at this sitting. House chicken is basically chopped up grilled chicken in a "chop suey" style stir fry with cabbage slivers of cabbage mushroom and broccoli. Tossed in a heavy soy type sauce. Imo was very salty and didn't finish it. I do not like wasting food and try to take things home etc but actually left the rest behind. 2nd item in the combo is Kaum Poong Kee. I've never heard of this dish before so really wanted to try this. Thick heavy tempura style batter chicken tossed in a sweet slightly spicy soy sauce. It was very heavy and the sauce was too much for me. I left a few pieces behind as well. Was super crunchy and freshly fried however. Overall was just too much salt for me. Maybe a simple teri chicken bowl would be better options here. If this is what you been going to for years more power to you and thank you for supporting small businesses but not for me sorry.

Some genuine Asian food, quality and great size portions. The combo was all this with a drink for $15

Started working in the area and I'm super strict with my diet so whenever I need something healthy and pretty cheap I always get their chicken teriyaki bowl. It's always consistent, ready in 10 minutes, and tons of protein with rice. The lady is always very friendly in the front as well. Would definitely recommend

We love this place. I have been coming here since they opened in 1993 when I worked next door. I would eat here at least once or twice a week to try their different plates. Our go to plate is #12 Kaum Poong Kee the hot & sweet garlic sauce over the twice cooked chicken is so tasty, making you want more. My 2nd favorite is #7 Sweet & Sour Chicken, the sweet & sour sauce is not too sweet, & the perfect portion of sauce poured over fresh vegies and chicken. They offer two bowl sizes regular & large, and the prices are reasonable for the amount of food portions. If you get a regular bowl after tasting their dishes you will wish you got a large. We were so sad when we moved out of state a few years ago as we missed our weekly favorite Yoko's Fast food. Now when we come into town each year this is our first and last stop for our visit so we get our fill. The owner Alex is super friendly & always comes out to say hi. Sincerely your Sactown friends

The restaurant is fairly large, and seems like a lot of people like coming here for family/friend dinners. Like the name insists, the teppanyaki is the way to go. Their menu isn't that large, so it was pretty easy to make a decision. I opted for the filet mignon (rare) along with shrimp. Teppanyaki is really more of a show/experience, so the food comes out to you in sections (versus all at once like at a traditional restaurant). The filet was so soft, and was perfectly rare, and the shrimp was so good. I think in the future I'd eat a whole plate of shrimp. I also got to try the yakiniku, and that was also pretty good but very sweet. Their Boo Yah Ka roll was also pretty yummy. It's essentially a spring roll, but with some spice and citrus to it. Everything from service to ambiance to food was excellent. And I love that they brought lunch service back to this location! Friday, Saturday, Sunday only and still make a reservation! It was busy! I started with the Hamachi Crudo which has grapefruit ponzu, lemon mayo, Serrano pepper, and thin cucumber slices. This was so good! Refreshing with just the right amount of spice. Next I enjoyed chopped salad and miso. The salad was very fresh and had a variety of goodies including edamame, purple cabbage, and avocado. The miso is so good!! It was delicate and yet so flavorful. I chose the Yuzu tuna roll option which has spicy tuna and avocado inside, with big eye tuna on top, garnished with micro cilantro, red onion, and yuzu. My boyfriend and I came to Shimogamo for Mother's Day and ordered the five-course meal. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing compared to our previous visit. The biggest issue was the service. Our waitress, an older woman, came across as dismissive and unnecessarily rude throughout the evening. When we were seated, she offered complimentary rosé. I accepted a glass, but my boyfriend does not drink alcohol, so he politely asked if he could order a mocktail instead. Before he could even finish, she abruptly responded, "No, you can wait to place an order for that," as if he was trying to substitute the complimentary drink, which he was not. He was simply trying to order a beverage. Later, when the braised beef course was served, my boyfriend politely asked if he could have a spoon or fork. The waitress loudly repeated "A SPOON?" in a mocking tone in front of nearby guests, which made the interaction uncomfortable and embarrassing. As for the food, the five-course menu was average at best and far below what we expected from Shimogamo. The salmon tartare and sushi course were both excellent and showed the quality we remembered from our first visit. However, the remaining courses fell flat. The fried branzino was dry and seemed poorly prepared, despite the promising flavors of capers and cream sauce. The braised short rib felt completely out of place on the menu and lacked refinement it was dry, heavy, and more reminiscent of a chain steakhouse meal than an upscale dining experience. The entire dinner also felt rushed, with little attention to pacing or hospitality. What makes this especially disappointing is that we dined here back in November on a double date and had an incredible experience. We spent over $600 that evening, and the service and food were exceptional. Our waitress at that time was knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. She guided us through recommendations, and every dish impressed us. That's why this visit was so surprising. Shimogamo clearly has the ability to provide an outstanding dining experience, which makes the decline in both service and execution even more concerning. I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously because this restaurant was once one of our favorites.

As someone who eats spicy tuna rolls any chance I get, I have tried many sushi places and this one was one of the worst spicy tuna rolls . We finished our meals and chatted for a bit.
