I came here for the first time on Sunday and I really loved the atmosphere! The vibes were vibing, which is really important to me when going to a yoga class. The class was 75 minutes long, which as someone who only does yoga a few times a month, I thought the lengthy class might be agonizing. But to my pleasant surprise, it wasn't!! There was the right amount of switching between different areas of the body to focus on that I didn't get too fatigued or bored. I don't remember the instructors name, but I liked him and how he led us in our yoga practice. Also, he came over to help physically adjust me while doing one of the poses. I'm totally fine with this (I actually prefer it), but I do want to point out that he didn't ask permission ahead of time. Again, not at all an issue for me! But if you're someone who doesn't like being adjusted by yoga instructors, you might want to bring that up privately before class starts. I will definitely be back!!! I love this studio. Where else can you take a yoga class in Queens for $10? Yoga Agora makes yoga accessible to the masses with $10 classes and donation based pay what you can classes. Classes are offered frequently throughout the day, so no matter your schedule there's a class you can make. I especially enjoyed taking their basics class, offered at 3:30 pm on Sundays. It's an hour long class that focuses on the foundational yoga movements and poses. It's well suited for beginners but still a challenging class, and especially great if your body is sore and in need of a solid stretch. Mats are offered here free of charge which is also a plus, and they have ample blocks and yoga props for use as well. The studio is well-lit and calming, however, the space does get packed, so if you want a good spot I'd recommend coming here early to set up. read more

This is Astoria's best kept secret Yoga studio I'm sure of it. I saw this place on classpass and my aching back craved some yoga instruction! You enter this place from the side of the building, walk some windy stairs and you are brought into a 1 room studio with blocks and mats available for use. The class I was in looked pretty packed with like 20 of us in there so idk how up to 40 people fit, but nonetheless, it was enjoyable and at the end super relaxing. This is a pretty barebones place which is how they're able to offer $12 yoga classes (if you book on the app with a card it ends up being $13.10 which is still a great deal). The instructor all have different styles so I recommend trying out different ones until you find a good fit. For a vigorous flow I recommend Kelley and Casey's classes! It's worth noting that this place is small so can get very crowded at times. Arriving early (per their recommendation in the app) is the best way to go. And just note that leaving can be a little chaotic with the size of the space. That being said, the pros far outweigh the cons and I would highly recommend this place! read more

Excellent local yoga spot in Astoria. I finally was able to attend and become a fan of Yoga Agora. It's a few blocks away from the local trains from Steinway and two blocks from the N/W. The entrance is somewhat hidden if you can't figure out how to go upstairs. Don't give up on ringing the bell! Once you enter the studio, it is located on the second floor and faces Broadway. It's a cute studio with a nice view of the main road, especially at night. I love that they also have a sky window. The teachers have been all great and fun to work with; no one judges and is very casual. I did notice they don't seem to fix some people's postures/poses which might not be the best. However the price you pay is affordable! $10 per class with cash, $11 with Venmo and card. It's truly a neighborhood business. They also host a donation based class. Mats are free to use if you can't bring your mat or don't have one. Really convenient. They do have a small closet changing room inside along with a tiny bathroom that always gets wet on the floor. I feel like there should be something like a carpet/rug to fix that issue along with people wearing shoes in a place where people have bare feet when entering (other than the little shoe area). Those are my only issues. Overall, the classes are great and so are the instructors. They have a nice round of classes everyday as well! The studio's view is a plus. Dropped in here for a class while visiting. First off, i never write reviews but i felt like this place is some kind of best kept secret or something. Josh was the instructor, he was immediately welcoming, even let me charge my phone call class. For the price of $10, you get a mat and any and all props; for the NYC area that's a great price. The class itself was an open vinyasa flow. i'm no professional yogi, i do daily practice to help with back pain and anxiety. I had been traveling 3 days and could feel my back and nerves acting up. This class was perfect. It had everything i needed for the day i took it. Josh is a great instructor, speaks quickly but clear enough you can understand him. Very SAD experience. We went today Tuesday evening. Instructor name Andrea was acting very unprofessional. We came in half hour before the class. Class was supposed to start at 5:30 PM. But Andrea was accepting more people at 5:35pm Class was full already over 17 people. When I asked why so many people ? Covid is not over yet!!!! She responded- maybe you can free up your space and someone else could take it. This is really unfair to me and my friend:( We came early. Andrea is very greedy person. She wants to squeeze more people as possible so we will feel like a fish in the can. Without air. Instructor Andrea Was acting very Rude and unfair:(((She should not accept people after 5:30pm especially when space is already full. Nice studio, but there should be a limit on a number of people allowed in for the class. We came in for the 5:30 class that filled in, and people kept coming after 5:30, so the instructor Andrea was trying to squeeze them in, moving the other students around, when it was obvious that there is no more space for everyone to exercise comfortably and without risk of potentially bumping into another student. So my friend and I had to leave because we didn't want to risk any injury. read more

I was visiting from Copenhagen and staying in Astoria for a few weeks with family. Yoga Agora was such a refreshing and welcoming space to practice yoga as I was trying to reset a bit after 2 years of pandemic related stress and anxiety. I really felt like I was a part of the community here and really love every instructors individual practice styles. I was attending 5-6 times a week and enjoyed every class. It got a bit crowded sometimes so if that makes you uncomfortable then I would try to go during off times and not on the weekend. A special shout out to Anna. It's hard for me to place this studio. The space is lovely and the instruction is usually pretty good (some teachers and better than others) but they just pack it so tightly. It's really unpleasant to do yoga with less than an inch between my mat and the person next to me. If they capped their classes a little sooner, this place would have 5 stars (depending on the instructor) but the way it's run now, I just can't give it to them. My friend introduced me to this place when she invited me to a donation based class last week. It started at 8am on Saturday morning and when we arrived around 7:50, it was PACKED and for good reason -- The space is absolutely gorgeous with windows from floor to ceiling. The class went on for an hour and 15 minutes. The instructor was energetic, helpful and knowledgeable! I went back again this week in search of another amazing class and there was a different instructor but I got what I was looking for. Her style was different but she was just as fun and encouraging and it's definitely great to have that variety instead of the same exact flow every week. This is the best yoga studio I have ever been to. Here is why: -The space is absolutely beautiful, with lots of plants and candles and huuuggee windows that make your warrior 3s feel like you are actually flying through Astoria (assuming you can do them... I often fall over) -The teachers are totally top notch, no attitude, mindset in the right place, supportive people who will often take the time to talk to you after class about your personal practice if you need extra help. -They are SUPER awesome with the mats(!!!) I never bring my yoga mat because this place is on top of the mat game. They don't even seem to think of it as inconvenient. I think the owner is super into cleaning stuff/organization/no bullshit -If you are passionate about resisting the global corporate takeover, this is the place to go. They are a locally run personally owned Astoria business. Their objective is to help make your life better, not to take your money. -They have donation classes EVERY DAY, several times a day, so even my broke ass can do yoga whenever I want to. -They are one of the only yoga studios in nyc that offers a weekly candlelit yin yoga class with live music, and damn, is that pianist not the best one you've ever heard in your whole life? -The teachers AND most of the attendees care about the community and value personal relationships. Can you believe it? A place like that still exists in the world! I have made tons of amazing Astoria friends from this place. And I could go on and on forever. I am a beginner and was worried I would go in their and be intimidated by everyone else but I've been going back every week for a month now and I've seen improvement in myself. The place is really cute, the instructors are also really nice. They do a great job in assisting people, like me, who are new. I really enjoy the late night class the most since they also walk you through meditation, so for me that's a bonus. The price is great and they also offer donation classes for certain times. What I appreciate most about the open community that lives up to the studio's name is the difference in practice styles. The instructors all have a shared vision, and most of the class will be familiar territory for most students, but each instructor brings their own "flavor". If you want to be talked through a visceral journey, go to Nick. For an experience that takes you out of your comfort zone and into awesome yoga territory, go to Corey. For boundless encouragement, go to Anna! And so on. I don't think a single instructor is a weak link - try them all and see who you want to go back to. The room is intimate, and classes at more popular times can get really crowded - but honestly? I find it easier to work through a pose when I'm surrounded by dozens of people working and breathing through it. 2PM classes are almost always packed to the gills; 11AM classes can be full too. 9AM is your best bet. (I don't go on evenings or weekends.) Rent a mat for $1, or bring your own (you can even store your mat there). Water is $1. No memberships, no pressure, no ego. I feel very fortunate to have a yoga studio in my neighborhood that offers inexpensive classes. I used to do work study at Jivamukti, which is my favorite place in the city (not just favorite yoga studio, but favorite actual place), but when they ended their work study program and made everyone start paying $22/class, I had to quit. Let's face it, Jivamukti is yoga for rich people. Agora is a beautiful little studio that welcomes everyone. You don't have to be skinny, and you don't have to be decked out head-to-toe in Lululemon. You'll see beginners there, even during open classes. The instructors are really varied. There are a couple I love, whose classes are just as challenging as the classes at Jivamukti. There are a couple who are really disjointed; I almost left once because the teacher couldn't seem to decide if it was a flow class or a "hold this pose for five minutes while I talk" class. I debated whether or not to say the name of my absolute favorite, but the room is always so packed anyway, I might as well. Kajuan freakin' RULES! He'll push your limits to the max, and he's sweet and funny and just generally wonderful. Kelley is also really good. The major drawback is that it's uncomfortably crowded. Morning classes are better, but be prepared to get kicked in the face during evening classes. (This actually happened to me.) There's barely an inch between mats. If Agora would limit the number of people, it would completely change the experience of practicing here. I understand they're trying to welcome as many people as possible. I understand they have to pay the rent. But if they added one more class a day (there are already a lot) and took 10 people out of each one, it would make a world of difference. read more

(Although to be honest it hasn't been a significant problem for me yet.) -Place is getting more and more popular, and, since the space isn't too big, you should come at least 10-15min before the start of class unless you want to be at the very front (which, if you're confident enough, wouldn't be so bad I suppose). Been hearing about this place for a couple years, finally my friend, Jamie, invited me to join the morning class at 7am for a donation-based fee. Waking up at 630am was little tough, but I made an effort to make it happen. (Do I really make it sound like a hard thing to do? Lol). On arrival, Jodi, the yoga instructor, gave us a warm welcome. The space for practicing was about the size of a one bedroom apartment. It was clean and airy. Jodi was really attentive on helping me do a headstand, which I hadn't done for almost half a year. I was pretty impressed. The class was semi fast-paced which was good enough for me in this early morning. One hour went by so peacefully. I took my first yoga class ever here. Close to three and a half years later I'm now over 150 hours into my first teacher training. As a long time runner, I used to be a yoga skeptic but the community and teachers here really inspired my deep love of yoga and meditation. I remember walking up the stairs and feeling like I left the rest of the world behind-instantly addicted! What's more, the classes here are extremely affordable, maybe the most affordable in all of NYC but definitely in Astoria. The schedule is packed and there are donation classes every day. Not for beginners, but a great work-out for those familiar with this style of yoga! Vinyasa is a type of fast moving intense yoga, similar to Ashtanga -- you work up a sweat -- and having been exposed to Hatha yoga, which is much slower paced, I was not prepared for this class. I much prefer a slow pace with time to get grounded in a pose. I was kind of intermittent with my practice, but stumbled on this studio when hanging out with my sister in Astoria and for the bargain price of $8 I figured I couldn't go wrong. I was 100% right. I cannot believe how such a great class is so affordable in NYC. Mentally and spiritually it was exactly what I needed to destress and refocus my life. Physically it was challenging with the right amount of guidance and a great combination of various different practices like vinyasa, power and bikram. Anna was a great teacher. Very patient and encouraging, taking the time to know all of our names. All in all it was exactly what I needed to reawaken my inner yogi. read more

This place is amazing with its open studio and price. I really enjoyed my first class there. I went on a weekday for a 11am class and that's probably why I enjoyed it a lot (not that many people). And then I went the day after for a 7pm class and my thoughts changed. It was extremely crowded, literally had about 3 inch gap from one yoga matt to another. I could literally smell the breath of the girl next to me and, really hate to say it but also the feet of the girl in front of me as well... Oh gosh, I was tempted to get out of class 10 minutes in because I kind of felt a little sick. But I stuck to it and finished the class because it would have disturbed other people. I highly recommend going to this studio not in rush hour, or if you do go after work, try to be all the way in the front or all the way in the back! Being stuck in the middle was a really bad experience. I will go again but probably avoid 7pm class! read more

I've been practicing yoga for only about a month. I take a couple classes a week at my regular gym, but never really had any formal introduction to yoga. My wife and I live right down the street from Yoga Agora and noticed they offer a "Basics" class for beginners. We went this past Saturday and were so impressed! The space is absolutely beautiful. Sure you can hear cars and such, but the wide open feeling you get with the skylight and floor-to-ceiling windows makes it all still feel peaceful. The studio was warm, but that was also kind of nice. Nick was the instructor and there was another instructor there to help out and keep an eye on our form. As the class filled up, they had us scoot our mats around the make room for everyone. By the time class started, however, it didn't feel crowded at all. I had plenty of space to move around. This class is an absolute MUST for anyone serious about yoga. Even if you've been practicing for a while, this class would help you. I felt so connected to the movement as well as the stillness. Nick does a wonderful job explaining yoga and how to place your body to achieve each pose. We covered the "foundation" poses (downward dog, plank, knees-chest-chin, cobra, mountain, forward fold, etc) I walked away feeling so much more aware of my body and breath. Plus he does a bit of meditation, which is lovely. We're both going to take a few more Basics classes and then venture into the Open classes. I'd love to try the Sunday meditation class as well. And (as everyone has mentioned) - super cheap! This class was donation based, but the most expensive classes are a mere $5. How can you possibly get better than Yoga Agora? read more
