If there are more folks that are beginners then her classes are slower and lighter for the benefit of the class but when there's a bit more experience around the room her classes can get pretty challenging and fun. I took a morning Sculpt and Tone class which was full but not overly packed. The pace of the class was well timed with spurts of work followed by enough breaks to recharge and start the next section of class. The class was a mix of lightweight training and Pilates movements that worked every part of my body. I walked out of class feeling accomplished and ready to take on the day. Classes here are pricey, but worth the investment in my opinion if you're planning to come here on a regular basis. After purchasing one drop in class I received a gift certificate for $30 which will cover another (not sure how long this promo will last) so it's like getting two classes for the price of one!

I usually take their Signature60 format, but enjoy taking the B3 Strength and Mindful Flow formats every now and then as well for some variety. This location is pretty comparable to other solidcore studios in the city, and actually has a relatively spacious classroom with more reformers than usual. The studio and equipment are always clean and well-maintained. Regarding the workout itself, it's definitely the most challenging, intense workout I've ever done and IMO not suitable for complete beginners just starting out in their fitness journey. I genuinely do believe you have to be somewhat of a masochist in order to enjoy and thrive in solidcore. But it IS effective -- since I started taking class regularly in the past year, my core strength has increased dramatically and noticeably improved my performance in my other workouts. The only drawback is that modifications are rarely given, and in a full class instructors may not have the bandwidth to give everyone individualized attention and correct everyone's form.

Nothing will last longer, look more beautiful or be as secure. You will never have to worry about the safety or quality of your equipment if you own Basil apparatus. Second, in case I need to school you, Basil is a legend. He worked at Gratz for years before starting his own company and has seen hundreds of pilates instructors in his time. He knows what we need. He knows what will last. He knows the history, the future, and most importantly, how to give you what you need today. Every piece is made by hand in Long Island City, NY- and you can tell. My entire studio is outfitted in Basil's equipment, and even people who know nothing about pilates will walk in and immediately mention how beautiful the craftsmanship of the apparatus is. Which brings me to the other half of the team, Panos and Sylvia Adamopoulos. The two owned Universal Designs, Inc, a high end custom furniture design and manufacturing company, before teaming up with Basil. When I was looking to outfit my studio, I wanted to be hands on with every aspect of the process. It was the most expensive aspect of starting my studio and I wanted to be sure I was making the right decisions. Basil, Sylvia, and Panos warmly invited me to the factory where I got to see every step of the manufacturing process. (For all you pilates classicists, let me remind you that Gratz will NEVER let you step foot in their factory today, let alone hold your hand through your decision making process) On my trip to the factory, I met the hard working people who make these beautiful machines and got to watch them in action! I was able to customize plenty of aspects of the apparatus as Basil himself explained to me why I may want one option but not another. I had already been teaching pilates for 8 years before this experience and let me tell you- I've never learned so much in one day than I did the day I visited. After my visit, I was in close contact with Sylvia throughout the purchasing process. I must have asked her for a dozen quotes for all sorts of scenarios! She patiently and clearly walked me through every combination until I made my choices. And when the guys delivered my equipment, they put everything together in minutes and did not leave until they knew I was satisfied. Here I am, three years later, and my apparatus is still beautiful. Everything is exactly as it was the day I opened. And anytime I have thought something was wrong, I have spoken to Basil himself to fix it. Once he even came to my studio to show me how easy the problem was to solve :) . I would never ask him to come out to me again, but this is what I mean when I say these are the most caring, quality assuring manufacturers in the industry.
