Went to this authorized Apple dealer to replace my iPhone battery. The Apple site on my phone said it would be $69. (see below) This dealer quoted me $89. I believe that's nearly a 35% premium. The manager suggested the batteries cost them $40. I understand that every business must determine their profit margins. This dealer has every right to price their products and services as they see fit. And I have every right to make the decision on who I choose to patronize. This is too bad. When my computer stopped turning on I looked up the reviews for Yes Computers and decided to take a chance. Let me save you time- don't. They made me waste two weeks with my computer sitting at their store. They told me they would have it ready in one week and it's fine if it takes longer but they never even ran the diagnostic test or follow up with me. I've called multiple times and the third time I left a voicemail and no one got back to me. I tried to go in person but since they hadn't done any work on it at all I decided to take my computer to Apple. They were also super condescending. But it's not just me- my stepmother, after waiting extremely long for her computer to be repaired, came home and the screws weren't on the back of her computer. I recently bought a new Iphone 14 and left town for a week. Not a good idea. My phone had no charge at all two days after purchase. I was driving around the Berkshires frantically looking for help. I found Yes Computers in Northampton and had a long, pleasant, helpful conversation with the man who answered the phone. He gave me several good suggestions and calmed me down. I went to the store and was met by the same gentleman(did not get a name unfortunately)who,again ,was extremely helpful and pleasant.These guys are certified Apple technicians which was a real relief to find. I recently tried YES for the 3rd and last time for computer repair. Each time they have provided long service times and a wrong diagnosis, resulting in me having to take it to the Applestore in Holyoke, weeks after bringing it to YES. The convenience of their Northampton location is no longer appealing and all of my future repair needs will now be completed at Apple. After spending 90 minutes on the phone with Apple they were unable to fix a problem on my daughter's computer. Through Apple I made an appointment at Yes Computers. I was seriously disappointed by my recent experience with Yes Computers. My MacBook Air was displaying a service battery notification telling me that I needed a new battery. I called Apple to see if that would be covered under my Apple Care. I sent them a screen shot of the information on my battery. The Apple Care rep checked with their supervisor, and they said that the battery needed replacement and would be covered by my Apple Care contract. They asked if I would like them to make an appointment for me to have the work done at a nearby authorized dealer - I did not know where the closest location was - they suggested Yes Computers and created an appointment for me for Friday afternoon at 2:40. A couple of days before my appointment, I called Yes Computers to find out if I would be able to have same day service. The salesperson confirmed that the battery was in stock and checked with the manager and told me that it would most likely be possible for me to have same day service. On Friday, I dropped off my computer and asked what time I could pick it up that afternoon - I told the salesperson that I had called and been told that was most likely possible. He went to the back and confirmed that I could pick up at 4:30. I left the shop and went to do some errands. While I was shopping, I received a phone message telling me that a check on the computer indicated that the battery did not need to be replaced. I called the shop and explained that Apple said I did need a new battery and they had set up the warranty service; therefore, I would like to have the work done. He said that since it was under warranty, they would do it. When I returned to pick-up my computer, the salesperson who assisted me told me I would have to pay for a rush repair. I was surprised by that because no one had ever suggested that I was having a "rush" repair nor that there would be a charge. He went into the back to speak with the technicians and when he returned, said there would not be a rush fee, but they were going to charge me $149 for the replacement of the battery because it did not need to be replaced. I found this quite shocking since Apple had set up my warranty repair and neither Apple nor anyone at the shop had ever mentioned a fee of any kind. The salesperson told me that if I did t want to pay, they could remove the battery. I asked to speak with the manager and the person who was helping me told me he, himself, was the sales manager. My computer was still in the back of the shop - the alleged "sales manager" went back one more time. I overheard a voice from the back say, "she lied to us about it being under warranty". The sales manager came back out - he blanched when I told him I could hear the conversation from the back of the shop and that I had not lied; nevertheless, he said there was nothing he could do. I told him I would pay and that I would also be contacting Apple and giving them a bad review. I do not believe that the sales staff at Yes Computers were trying to cheat me; rather, I believe that they are inexperienced and poorly trained. At no time did any of the staff tell me their name, explain any procedure, suggest that there was any possibility that I might have to pay for the service, or tell me what those fees might be. Even more galling is that they never so much as hinted at an apology - even after literally calling me a liar! So, this is my bad review and I have shared my feelings with Apple whose employees did apologize and more. read more

I used to bring all of my computers to Yes because there were only Apple stores in major cities. Always had a good experience, but this was when they were located at the storefront which is now Newbury Comics. Recently, the adhesive holding in my iMac's screen gave out (why a 27" screen is only held in place by adhesive is beyond me), and the screen shattered below my desk. I ordered a factory screen online because Yes told me it would be $800 dollars to replace it. When I plugged the new screen in it was unresponsive. I assumed the cable had failed from being torn out by the (heavy) falling screen, but brought it to Yes to be sure this was the case before I did any more ordering. It took over two weeks for them to begin 'work', by which I mean, trying another cable to see if the screen in fact functions. They told me the monitor was defective and to return it. I returned it to the very confused an apologetic distributor and received a second monitor about a week and a half later. No luck with this one either. The distributor told me that it must be the cord, and that before returning the second monitor I should order a new one. The cable finally arrived, and the screen is now working. Thanks for literally nothing! I PAID YOU to do one quick and easy job, to get a PROFESSIONAL ASSESSMENT, before moving forward on my own. Because of you I have been without a computer for well over a month and have wasted so much time trying to figure this out. 0 stars, but +2 for the sake of history. Never coming here again though. My Mom bought a MacBook here. When she went back in for service she talked with the manager and he not only didn't help her with a real issue with the unit (he admitted he couldn't fix the problem) he wouldn't replace the unit. He offered a credit that did not cover replacement- and wouldn't give her her money back. Worse still he was outwardly rude and condescending to my 80 year old Mom. Shame on you. I should have known from the wailing and pacing of a fellow customer upon entering YES Computers that it was not a good idea to bring my computer there. Her sarcastic, lilting "goooood luck" still haunts me to this day. It's a shame, because I was very excited to use YES Computers as they are local and seemed less expensive than other options. However, their service team was extremely unfriendly/ condescending and they provided poor and sluggish service. I was told that my simple repair would be completed by the next day, which was followed by nearly a week of one person telling me "We're working on it as we speak." and then a different person telling me hours later "We haven't started it yet. I don't know who told you otherwise." Needless to say, this was very frustrating. All in all, after a very long wait they didn't fix my problem and quoted me for an additional repair that was 20x as expensive as the original one. So, regrettably, I can only recommend YES Computers if you enjoy working with pretentious people who provide poor service. read more

I have made all of my major computer purchases at Yes. So far, I have had no problems. The staff is impeccably knowledgeable and show an enthusiasm for their products and all things Apple. I especially love the mom-and-pop store, local flavor of Yes. They are in a position to help you in a way that the big box Apple stores are not. They often have special deals on recent generation, new computers - proving that it is possible to get a good deal buying an Apple. The customer service here was horrendous on multiple occasions. I bought a new Macbook from them in May, because Northampton's closer to me than the Apple Store in Holyoke, and I like supporting small, local businesses. That experience was OK. However, there were some weird little issues with the computer, so I emailed them about it, late summer. No response, despite several follow-ups and trying different email addresses (from my receipt and on their web site). I called at one point, and was told by a frazzled employee who just wanted to get me off the phone that someone would get back to me. Nobody did. (I do not live close by so I'm not able to just pop in.) Getting into winter, I messaged via Facebook, and again was told someone would get back to me. Nobody did. I tried to follow up again more recently via Facebook, and the person responding gave me the owner's email address (despite my saying that they don't respond to emails), but not before being at least slightly condescending and blaming that day's snowstorm for the lack of communication (apparently not reading my messages that this had been going on for months). Then, inexplicably, I was blocked from their Facebook page. (The only provocation I can think of being that I was trying to get some answers while I actually had a hold of somebody, or maybe they were trying to avoid yet another bad review.) I went ahead and emailed the owner, Mark, anyway. A few weeks later and still no response. This place is a travesty the very concept of an Apple "Premier Partner." Off to Holyoke I go! read more

Without getting into the technical details of my experience at Yes, I'll just say I spent 3 years doing Apple-exclusive IT for a large university department. 300+ units, half dedicated faculty machines and half computer lab/public machines. All Mac. It's difficult for me to tell where Yes' incompetence ends and where their apathy begins, but some mixture of an extremely unpersonable front desk rep and a wildly overbilled estimate--based on a woefully inaccurate diagnostic--I left. Went here for a hard drive replacement for my iMac--seamless, fast and cheap. They worked with me to keep the costs down, were fine with me buying my own replacement drive online, vs using the part they had on hand. Th Apple store in Holyoke even unofficially recommended Yes over the phone, because according to them they likely handle the most out-of-Applecare repairs in the region. My fiance and I went here because he loves Apple products and we happened to be in the Northampton area (we drove from Keene, NH). It's true that this store does not have the flashy aesthetics of the actual Apple Stores but they still sell the same Apple products. I bought my fiance a new pair of earphones with a microphone since he did not like the ones that came with his iPhone. The original cashier who took my credit card did not know what he was doing and ended up charging me twice for the same product. Of course I did not find out until the next day after checking my bank statement. I called the store about the issue and not only were they apologetic, they were very courteous and offered me a credit back for the second charge which showed up the next day. Full disclosure: I am a Mac specialist, independent computer teacher, and consultant. Yes computers recommends me to their customers, and I have known the owner and most of the employees of Yes since they opened their doors some 16 years ago. Yes Computers has all the advantages of a local Mac computer store - good location, lots of Mac products, and a knowledgeable sales staff. One reviewer here complained about a service issue. I can understand the challenges of operating a computer service department. For example, it is not always easy, cost-effective or even recommended to repair every computer, and the cost and hassle of dealing with a broken machine can be a stressful experience for some customers - and sometimes for the service staff as well! I can only offer my own experience. Except for a couple warranty repairs where it was easier to send my computer directly to Apple for work, I have taken all my service work to the Yes service department over all these years and I have always been satisfied. One great advantage of shopping at Yes is that unlike the Apple Store, Yes will often offer free or discounted extras when a computer purchase is made, and when new models arrive, the most recent older models are usually sold at discounts the Apple Store will not offer. read more
