My review for Mad Macs is long overdue. I had a crazy incident as a young college student back in 2001 that left my brand new iMac completely destroyed, and I couldn't afford to replace it. (The one I had was purchased with credit and I was already paying monthly for it)! I took it into Mad Macs with no hope that anything could be done. Since it was still under warranty, the man who helped me said that he could replace the motherboard and other fried parts for me, and that act of kindness saved my life. I still think about it every now and again, which is why I'm leaving this review. Because of his kindness, I was able to do all my schoolwork in the coming years, and I did not have to go into more debt by replacing it. I went up today to get my PS4 Pro cleaned, as I didn't trust cleaning the heat sink myself. Both employees were very kind, fun to work with and super helpful. They told me what would happen, the guesstimate of the price, and what would be happening. Not only was it quick, but I payed a lot LESS than what was estimated! Fast and knowledgable service from friendly folks who know what they're doing, are honest, and go the extra mile. After I brought my 2017 iMac in to get the RAM upgraded (something Apple will not do themselves on this model), Tim emailed to let me know I also had a hard drive issue that he could fix if I wanted, for an additional charge. I said yes, and then in the end was only charged half of the quoted additional fee, since he was able to fix the issue more easily than predicted. And it only took a couple of days. A+ would absolutely recommend taking your precious machines here. read more

I Just wasted 3 hours of my life here. Thank made an appointment via Apple Care. Arranged my day to drive the 1.5 hours here for a screen replacement. I arrived at Mad Macs early. There were people outside the store smoking weed. When I walked in, I was advised that my phone would need to be shipped to Apple for a screen repair. Great. Had I known this, I would have shipped I myself, rather than drive 3 hours for your mailing service. I'm now off to buy a Galaxy phone. I done with Apple. read more

Years ago, MadMacs provided some help with a couple of Macbooks- they were great because it was a small,local business. After reading these reviews, I phoned, with some trepidation, to inquire about current services and pricing. Whoa! More than Apple store non-warranty/Applecare prices. When I inquired why, the reply was "we're a small business so..." Which once meant good service and fair prices. And now means paying more? I am unfamiliar with the concept of paying substantially more for the same/similar product or service which may be had elsewhere for less. Is it the privilege of underwriting the overhead of someone's business? The new cachet of "Local" when Albany/Holyoke is not actually that distant? Or is this yet another example of Berkshire Boutique, priced for those with more money than sense? Convenience sometimes comes at a price,understandably, but there is also a point when that price outweighs the convenience. Also readily apparent in Google reviews was this same small business excuse for high pricing. I get it, being the "little guy" is not easy- it also should not be ready excuse. Unfortunate. read more

This update is long past due. True, I did have trouble with Mad Macs some time ago but no more. Quite the contrary. I gave them another chance, several chances, actually and they came through each time. I brought them an Apple laptop for repair and they went above and beyond for me. The laptop was not only fixed, but they did everything they could to have it qualify for free repair. They made several phone calls to me, updating me on their progress. I certainly was not forgotten! Mad Macs has since fixed another laptop. They put protective screens on my iPhone and handled the repair of my husband's iPhone. Each time the transactions were wonderfully pleasant. The repairs were done in a timely fashion. The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. Their duties are handled with a sense of responsibility. The new location at Allendale is easily accessible. The store is full of yummy Apple products. Indeed, why travel to an Apple store when you can go to Mad Macs? Never, and i repeat NEVER bring your iPhones here for a repair.. They told me it would take 3-5 days for my repair, but i didn't end up with my phone again for two weeks, and on top of that the phone they gave me back rejected my SIM card because they lied and sent a different phone back than the one i gave them. I have had to speak with my carrier on the phone for an hour before they tell me i need a new SIM card. F**K this place. never again. read more

There are few places where you *enjoy* being a client, and Mad Macs is among those at the very top of the list. Daryl and Scott are among those handful of business owners with the highest integrity. Hard working, smart, and responsive. I've always had the most outstanding customer service on the most vexing problems. I can't speak more highly about this company and the philosophy that they espouse and practice. I'm not the only one who would agree. Today - like many days, I had a repair under the gun for a broken MacAir. As ALWAYS, Daryl returned my call in a snap. He knew exactly what I needed. The part was ordered near 4pm on a Thursday. I got a call on Friday that the repair was done. I was pleasantly surprised at the price. Lower than Apple and 2 other options. I picked it up from Scott who - like an old friend - took care of me with a smile. I read the mean-spirited reviews here. There's something suspicious going on when both people use the same vocabulary, and when their alleged experience is totally incongruent with scores and scores of loyal followers - and over a decade of outstanding service among many of us in this close-knit community. I'd wonder about what these mean people are up to. There is a HUGE Mad Macs fan base for a very good reason. They just don't always make time to write on these stupid sites. What more can you ask for? Totally a fan of Mad Macs. Go there. You'll be taken care of with a smile, at a fair price. It's good for your karma. read more

Went in with a broken MacBook screen. When I brought it in I tried for them to give me a rough estimate of how much it was going to cost and they refused to give me even a ballpark figure ( I know that these this can be hard to estimate I didn't need an exact figure just within 100 or so dollars.) so I leave it there and they say they have to run a system scan on it (I assure them that it's just the screen but they said it's policy to do the screen) so I leave it there and get a call a day later quoting me $450 just to replace a basic MacBook Pro screen. Multiple sources said it should not cost more than $300 at most. I LAUGHED when they said this because I literally bought the laptop refurbished for $500, I my as well just bought a new one at that point. Took it to another spot in town got the screen replaced for nearly half the price and the guy said that he couldn't believe that they would charge that much. This place is a RIP OFF. Also was forced to pay $35 for the estimate and system scan I could've done myself, that I made clear I did not want them to do but they assured me it was policy. DO NOT TAKE YOUR MAC HERE IF YOU WANT A REASONABLY PRICED REPAIR. I knew I wasn't going to be walking out with a cheap $50 bill for a screen replacement I knew it would cost me a couple hundred at least but literally the cost of a refurbished MacBook? RIDICULOUS. Unless you have money to waste don't go here. The shop does look nice and I'm sure they do great work, but the prices are insane and ridiculous. The third party used an Apple product to replace my screen (it was used, but this was what I requested to lessen the cost). I stand by my review, and still feel as though your shop is overpriced and a rip off. I'm sure you do quality work, however at an unnecessarily high price, in my opinion. And also, you're completely in your right to do the diagnostics, I get why you do it, I just think it's something that should be able to be opted out of if the consumer wishes. I just wish you had been more upfront about the pricing because I would not have left it there in the first place. I also listed the prices in this review, someone else may see those and think it's not bad and I hope it doesn't deter those people from doing business with you, because I did absolutely get the impression that is a place where quality work would be done, just in my opinion far too expensive. I didn't feel the need to speak to the owner because your staff was professional and you have the right to set your prices for whatever you feel fit, but I wanted to post a review which reflected the high price for a repair that multiple source told me should be around half of what you quoted me for. I'm not trying to spread false information about your business, I had a positive experience in store, your staff is courteous and professional and gave me the impression of competence. However, you are not transparent about pricing and the pricing is too high in my opinion, but others will make their own judgement on this and obviously with how long you have been in business many feel that you are worth that high price tag and I hope that you continue to succeed as a business, I just know I cannot afford to overpay for services regardless of their quality. read more

Went into the Williamstown location and got expert service and the price was more than fair. I added memory on their advice(and they did not try to sell me a new machine.) They also fixed my case for 15 bucks and told me to bring in my back up device and they would help me make sure it is working right. Much better than the Apple store in Holyoke - and you don't need an appt (and if you are a few minutes late they delete you) and it is ok with them if it takes more than the Apple 15 minutes at the Genius bar). Took my computer to Mad Macs after the hard drive unexpectedly crashed. Fortunately, I'd done a recent backup, and the Mad Macs staff were able to restore my computer with a quicker turnaround time than I expected. My second review of Mad Macs: a few years later, a similar disaster - I accidentally smashed 5 stars screen on my newer MacBook. Totally freaked out. Called Mad Macs, drove to the store, they ran some diagnostics, ordered the part, tracked the shipment, kept me informed of shipping progress and costs. In less than 24 hours I had the laptop back in perfect working order. The Apple Store could not have matched this service and turnaround time. Competent, knowledgeable and friendly. I do not understand the excessively negative review from several years ago that persists on Yelp. Must have been a personal gripe. I have gone to this store a couple of times in the past year + and have seen it grow from mainly "service your mac here" to full on certified Apple sales store. The store itself is small, but the space has been utilized very well. It doesnt feel cramped or crowded but there is a lot of stuff in the small space. Very well done. They have a great selection of all your Apple/Mac needs.... Every time I have stepped foot in the store, I have been greeted upon entry and offered assistance throughout my experience in there. I bought a magic mouse recently and intend on going back for a mac mini and wireless keyboard to complete my setup. I would recommend going here over any of the other choices (big box stores - wal mart, best buy, etc) because of the stellar service and the fact that its locally owned. They have earned my business (not like thats tough, but ill avoid your biz ike the plague if you dont say hi to me when I walk in the store) and I will continue to recommend the store to everyone I know. Love this place. They have fixed a number of computers for free that were on extended warrantee but they had to look it up to find that out. They just fixed my dads macbook pro by reseating the RAM chips....nice...no charge. Honest, friendly, a great place to go....5 stars read more

They get back to you pretty quickly if you contact them with questions. That is a big difference from other apple stores, in my experience.

I rarely write reviews but feel that I'd like to let others know what an awesome experience I had at Mad Macs in Pittsfield. I decided to buy my new Mac Air locally so that I could get support when I need it. It was a great decision. I received the highest level of personal service--actually from one of the owners of the store-- when there were issues re: transferring my photo albums from my old Windows computer. He couldn't have been nicer and more generous with his time. I highly recommend buying or repairing all of your Apple products at Mad Macs. read more

Go Mad Max! I mean Mad Macs. I've been coming to these guys since they were called Tekserve, and I'm amazed by how much the business has grown. The owner Daryl is great, very knowledgable and nice. I hadn't seen him in about four years, but he remembered me when I called to have have work done on my computer. They replaced my optical drive with a SSD, and did a great job. Now my MacBook Pro is running like a Ferrari. Their new location on North street looks wonderful, though I miss the Mad Max posters, and Daryl's long hair. I will definitely continue to come to them for all my Apple needs, especially since they are totally Apple certified/authorized/bonafide and they don't call themselves Geniuses (seriously Apple Store?). Slow, lazy, and ineffective. Brought my computer in because of a crashed hard drive. They told me they'd have my data back that afternoon. They didn't call that afternoon. The next morning they said they'd have it THAT afternoon. When I came in then they said the computer was broken and the data was gone. It took three days to tell me what I could have found out in five minutes, and they didn't even have the courtesy to call. read more

I have been a Mac user since I can remember. It was the best day of my life when Mad Macs appeared on North St. I have fortunately not needed extensive repair to my equipment (knock on wood). However, I have had several opportunities to run in and pic up replacement parts and supplies. Their staff is over-the-top helpful and always pleasant and knowledgable. This doesn't really apply to interactions with the company directly. Rather, their association with a lackluster-likely incompetent "repairman". I had a cracked screen and called in to see if it could be fixed. They said they have someone who can do it. So I brought the ipad in and hoped for the best. I received a call from a man named Dale who said he should be able to get it fixed and back to me the next day. When the next day came he called again and said he wasn't able to fix it because he had to order a different piece of glass and than he normally uses and it wasn't working right. He asked to keep the ipad and wait for the new glass to come in, wherein he'd repair it and ship it back to me. 1 month later (and after my calling every week to check progress), he still hadn't received the glass, so I just requested he send the still broken ipad to me and I'd get it fixed elsewhere (which I did in an afternoon by someone who knows what they're doing). It took another couple weeks of calling and asking if he had mailed the ipad yet for it to finally land in the hands of usps. I took it to a local repair shop (I moved during this mess) and it was fixed 30 minutes later--well, sort of. The problem is that the Dale-guy pulled off the magnets along the right side under the glass that activate/sleep the device with the smart cover. And no surprise, you can't just buy these little magnets from amazon, or any other online component retailer. So I call Dale back and ask him what he can do to fix the problem and his reply is that he'll look into it and get it sorted out. 3 months later no reply, and I'm left with an a mostly functioning ipad. Honestly, I think I'd prefer the cracked screen at this point. How this post made it to mad macs' link is simple. They're guilty by association. And it makes one question a business with such shady contractors. Consumer beware. read more
