I have been here twice in the past couple of years for repair work. Once, I lost files on my computer but I knew they were stored somewhere on a portable USB drive. While it wasn't exactly cheap, they restored all of the files on the USB drive including the ones I had lost on my computer. That was great. Also, last year our computer was acting up and running slow so I brought it here. They did a scan of the hard drives and reformatted parts of the storage so that we had more free space (so our computer wouldn't crash every time we needed to do something) and removed some programs we didn't need (after consulting with us first). He is knowledgeable in pretty much anything having to do with technology and as someone who is just the opposite, I ask a lot of questions and he has always been exceedingly patient with me. I once brought him a repair that proved to be very challenging and he kept at it until it was as promised and although he had spent quite a lot of time on it, the price was exactly what he had originally quoted me! He is also honest and won't recommend trying to resurrect something that is not worthy of repair just to make a few bucks. Very fast and less than efficient. Apple certified and he says he'll work with your time restraints. I saw him tell several walk-ins to call and make an appointment. He really did a number of my metallic frame when he did a screen replacement. Professional and courteous, but a butcher when it comes to the repairs.He has a little ways to go on customer service. Well COVID had no effect on Spaulding Computers. By far the best experience I have had with repair services in general. Quick and prompt. Explained what was wrong, needed, and time it would take. Last week my 10 year old iMac died. Apple won't repair an "obsolete" device but TJ at Spalding Computer was efficient, fair and reliable in assessing the condition of my old iMac, downloading my data, directing me to the steps necessary to get back in business (need an external drive and a new computer) and putting the data on a new device. I visited Spaulding on 7/21/2018 with a Thinkpad that started but had a black screen. TJ opened up the case while I was there and did some diagnostics, though the problem was not completely solved. Had a Lenovo laptop that wouldn't boot and a MacBook Air maxed out on storage. TJ was able to fix the Lenovo. I got a replacement MB Air with mush larger SSD, and he partitioned part of the drive with Boot Camp and installed Windows 10 Pro. Now everything is on one laptop and runs great. I brought my Windows laptop in this afternoon for what I thought might be a battery replacement or a death rattle with file extraction. It had been playing dead for a couple of weeks after a Windows 10 update months ago. I left it plugged in & got an iPad. Amazingly enough, once I got it in to Spaulding, and after some hesitation, it booted up. Rather than making me feel foolish, TJ explained the problems with the Windows 10 updates & said this is a common issue -- even the extreme 'hanging' despite multiple attempts to shut down & re-boot. In short, I got a boatload of advice about various tech issues 'on the house,' and a lead on a possible replacement for my Windows-based laptop -- all in a civilized, courteous conversation on a late Friday afternoon. My computer got a virus on it 2 days before a big presentation I had to give. The next morning i woke up and called and they said to bring it in. I dropped it off at 10 and had it back by 5 working perfectly with a free installment of new anti-virus software for less than the price quoted. With computer repair it's really hit or miss when it comes to the skill and honesty of the people you meet. Convenient location, fast and friendly service, great prices. I called to see how much it would be for a phone battery replacement and they double-checked to be sure they had stock before I came in. Didn't have stock that day but it came in the next day. I went in on Saturday, they changed out my battery in about 10 minutes and off I went. Best price in town for my iphone 6s. What I heard was "nothing, but a tip would be appreciated". He could have taken the computer, called me back later and charged me whatever he wanted. Don't know all of the technicalities, suffice it to say my computer was totally messed up. Could not access any of my documents, downloads, pictures, bookmarks, etc. Said all folders were empty. Talk about a sinking feeling! Had read excellent reviews of Spaulding Computers on Yelp, so I called TJ on a Friday afternoon at 2:00 and he said to bring it in and he would look at it over the weekend. Brought it in, and he fixed it right then and there in no time at all. Again, don't know how he fixed it, but only know that it was something that I could have never done in million years. TJ is legit and saved me so much money and stress. My Mac screen busted and Apple couldn't fix it because it's a 2008 model which is considered "vintage". The only other place that could fix it was an hour away on Pittsfield. I called him ask if he could at least look at it and he identified the problem quick. He ordered that part it care a week later and it worked perfectly! I can't thank him enough I'm a wedding DJ and this was my work computer.
