I brought my crashed external hard drive into the store to see if they could recover the data from it. The guy who did my intake explained that it will be $162 due today. I asked if that is a flat fee if they are successful or unsuccessful. He said it was. I asked in there would be any additional fees, he said no. He said if they have to mail it out if they can't figure it out then it would be extra. I told him to not mail it out without first calling me to approve or not approve. He also asked if I wanted them to put the files on a hard drive which would be extra. I said no and asked if I could bring my own hard drive to transfer the files. He said yes. I asked if I should just bring it at a later date to do that and he said yes. He told me it would take 10-12 days. On day 14 I still hadn't heard back so I called. The guy who answered didn't know what I was talking about and had to call me back. Another call where the guy seemed confused about what I was asking. At this point I lost the tiny bit of confidence I had with this place. He called back a second time and said they recovered my files and I asked can I bring my hard drive at 3pm the next day to get my files. He said yes. I arrive the next day to be told by the store manager that it will cost me another $75 to transfer files to my hard drive. I refused to pay and told him nobody said anything about a hidden data transfer fee. He said then I couldn't have my files I paid $162 for them to recover. I was so upset and he admitted it was possible his staff neglected to tell me 2 different times there was this hidden fee. He offered to charge me $50 not $75 for the error. New management....new place...they are not only remodeling the inside they are also replacing staff. Had a bad experience a while back but thought I would try again. Communication was better, turn around time to fix computer was better...they do charge diagnostic fee but if they know what is wrong they won't do that...I had a problem with my charger not staying in the computer port and they did not charge me to diagnose it since they knew what it was, didn't have to pay until I picked it up, called me to let me know the cost of fixing it and it was ready in 2 days. January 2014. My experience with Liberteks wasn't great. I brought a laptop in for diagnostic testing and it took them a long time to tell me they couldn't find the issue (2+ weeks). The fact that they couldn't find the issue was fine. The thing that annoyed me most was that I was the one who was always calling to check on the progress, and they didn't call back when they said they would. I will not return. October 2014. This is in reply to Larry's 8/30 response to my initial January review. Larry, Thanks for the reply. That it took 9 months is a testament to the customer service one should expect from Liberteks. As you can see from my initial review, which in retrospect, was pretty tame, my chief complaint was with the fact that your staff was unresponsive. While I understand that technicians are busy performing repairs, returning a customer's call is basic customer service. Bad customer service in the name of good technical service is still bad customer service. As the shop owner, you have the power to expect and insist more from your staff. Make it a policy that customers get their calls returned. It's not hard and it will likely make your customers feel better about all the money they are leaving at your establishment. Unfortunately, there's more. While "pushing yourselves" and "meticulously diagnosing the machine," your staff found nothing wrong. Would that be classified as the "exact cause of the problem?" The tech suggested I permit Liberteks to reformat the drive, install windows again and restore data on my PC. For an additional $250. This is after I'd already paid the $125 diagnostic fee. $375! I declined this offer. Check disk later found a number of bad sectors, and further testing revealed I had a bad hard drive, which your techs, with advanced diagnostic tools I don't have access to, and in the feverish application of their expert diagnostic skills (your story, not mine), did not find. Their solution would've resulted in added frustration, possibly the loss of data, and me throwing even more money away, because the drive would've still failed. So, while I appreciate the fact you want to spin this yelp in a way that makes it sound like your staff are working so fastidiously that they can't possibly return a call, I think we both know that's just not true (and a bad business practice, to boot!) I would've felt better had you just said, "Sorry. We will try harder." Instead, you defend and take no accountability. Not only should you reevaluate how your staff conducts your business, it would probably be a good idea to reconsider how you approach replying to customer reviews and complaints. I have adjusted my rating from 2 stars to 1 star, based primarily on the suggestion that I pay an additional $250 for a service that would have definitely failed. read more

I dropped my cell phone on bathroom tile and guess what, the screen smashed like a spider web. After doing some research on screen replacement, I stumbled upon Liberteks. I emailed them my phone model, what happened, and they got right back to me in the morning with a more than reasonably cheap price (I think it was about $30 after part costs). They ordered a replacement screen, and in a couple days I was able to drop my phone off for about an hour while it was repaired. Took it home and found that the part sent was faulty due to light coming out of the edge of the screen. I emailed Liberteks, and they immediately ordered a replacement. Two days later they had replaced my screen and I was a happy customer. Good job guys! read more

They went to bat for me when my phone's replacement glass cracked very soon after it was repaired, and agreed to replace again at no labor cost as a courtesy. The wait for parts seemed a little long, but the phone tech did the job in a 1 hour wait. The 1st time the glass was replaced, the tech did not test the back button properly, requiring me to bring the phone back twice more (once to put my original cracked glass back on, and again over a week later when the 2nd replacement came in). They are courteous. Pricing seemed fair for labor, parts were expensive. I would have paid Samsung 200 dollars; I paid Liberteks 225 dollars. But I got to keep my phone in the meantime. They will not reply email glass only, they feel they must replace glass and lcd as a unit. That is to their convenience and they feel, for the protection of the customer. But I feel it is incredibly wasteful, and some credit should be given for the still-good lcd screen. read more

Let me just say, I have been to handful of local repair shops big and small and Liberteks takes the cake. I brought my laptop here after it started crashing randomly. I walked in with no idea what was wrong, and was greeted by Larry (the owner, helpful guy) who took a look at it right away and recommended a diagnostic. They gave me a call a couple of days later and told me exactly what had happened. Not only did they let me know what the problem was, they repaired it right away and told me I could come and get it. They even reassured me that the rest of my computer was healthy and running great. ALSO, when I brought it home and opened the lid, I found a slip thanking me for my business and letting me know that my laptop received a complimentary cleaning. I went to Best Buy to have an issue fixed with the screen/hinge on my Dell laptop. After finding out the price, an associate referred me here and I am so happy he did! I had two associates helping me at once with the problem right away, they let me know what it might cost- which was much less than Best Buy- and told me what would needed to be fixed, when it would be done and that I would get a call if anything changed. Brought my first used computer from them in 1994 when they were on railroad ave,they offered a free flatbed scanner with purchase , i declined the scanner ,it was huge,plus i didn't have a car Could not figure why the brand new CD Drive i brought from them had a piece of the box missing,? i now realize that the box bar code was cut out so they can get the/a rebate or something. eek is right!! Don't go here. I was referred by Best Buy for computer repair. I will be calling Best BUY as well. Walked in and the representative was not overly happy to be greeted by a customer. I was hindering on his day. Then he quoted me $125 to look at my computer even after knowing the problem the screen needed to be replaced. Then an additional cost for the part. He quoted labor as $125. I said this is over half of what the computer s worth. Mind you the computer is not even a year old. I left and immediately went to another computer repair store in Clifton Park- Computer Answers. My computer was fixed in 30 minutes. I was comfortable with the price and outstanding customer service. Worse service ever. Paid $189 to drop off a laptop which is brand new because I accidentenly deleted my files and software. Was out of town for several weeks with no updates. Each time I called I was told the same thing - we cannot retrieve any of your software. Paid another $135 to pick up the laptop and was informed they retrieved some of my Itunes files. Hmm, let me see. All I need to do was download the Itunes software and then signon to Itunes to retrieve my library. The tech wasn't smart enough to tell me that. Idiots. read more

Honest business. I walked in a few days ago to get a replacement charger for my laptop. They did not have it in stock, so they were going to try and special order it for me and give me a replacement. After a dedicated ten minutes of searching, the man told me they could special order it for 50 dollars OR I could go to the manufacturers website and get it for half cost! I took my laptop to Liberteks and they diagnosed my computer as having a virus and bad hard drive. They got my laptop up and running again but their customer service is lacking. When I called to check on my computer, the guy I talked to was condescending when I declined installing their virus protection and having them replace my hard drive. This was one of the oddest, strangest interactions I've ever had with a small business. I needed a new screen for my iPad so I decided to give them a try rather than the Apple store. The initial drop off was fairily uneventful, aside from the inordinately long wait for the part to arrive, all seemed fine. I dealt with a perfectly nice guy who told me the device would be ready in a week. I got home and found it VERY strange that I had both a LinkedIn and a Facebook friend request from the owner of the store, who I never met. I purposely did not give an email address as I didn't think there was a need for it. So, this person, took the time to read over the days receipts, which is fine since it is his business after all, then sought me out on both of these social networking sites. LinkedIn is sort of understandable, but Facebook? I just found it highly inappropriate. I found myself having to follow up numerous times, even though each time I hung up with someone, they promised the tech would call me. Then, on the day it was supposed to be ready, I rceived a message from someone at the store asking for a call back. I returned the call and this owner (Larry??) answered and could not have been more rude to me. When I asked if he was the one who added me on the social networking sites, he said, uh, maybe. He just gives off a very weird vibe and refused to find out what was going on with the order. Kept insisiting on my name and number to have someone call me back. Of course, no call ever came, so I had already planned to stop by the store, and there he is (creepy owner dude) sitting at the desk. He acted as if we didn't just talk 15 minutes ago, needed my claim ticket, my full name and reason for being in his store. This entire interaction took place without him even bothering to look up from his computer screen. He kept insisting the tech 'was working on it', finally the tech came out and after a few back and forths of "I'm working on it" it finally came out that there was an issue. That's fine, no problem, take the time you need, just COMMUNICATE. Plus I was lied to and told I was already told about the issue when I was not. All in all, I would not recommend, but that really has nothing to do with the quality of the work, it's all about the owner. He has zero customer service skills, doesn't really seem to care much and just overall gives off a bad vibe. I explained I felt it was inappropriate that he added me on LinkedIn and FB having never met him and he didn't even acknowledge it, much less look me in the eye. I used these guys briefly once before for a computer repair and found them to be a great service company. Were honest in the repair and very quick. I recently updated my complete system and because of a handicap I knew I needed help in getting it set up. When my new system arrived I called and they set up an appointment for the following day. The technician arrived on time after calling to confirm the appointment and went to work. First he removed the complete old system and straightened all the wire jungle behind the desk and even cleaned a bit. Opened all the shipping boxes, checking the equipment and condition of each component. Set up the computer, the monitor, the multiple speakers, and the printer. After checking the entire system he connected the modern and WiFi system making sure all was working and even set up the new operating software. All that remained was for me to familiarize myself with the new computer. An excellent job and at a very reasonable price. The following day they called to make sure all was right and even made a follow up visit to make a speaker adjustment. I don't think I could have done any better and highly recommend these guys. read more
