****This review is for the Albany, NY store**** I brought my PlayStation 3 into Computer Answers for a diagnostic and estimate on April 20 because it was not accepting discs. I was told that they would call me with the dianosis and estimate after they had looked at it, would which take at least three days. When I hadn't heard anything in a week, I called, mainly to make sure they had my correct phone number. Again, I was told that someone would look at it and get back to me shortly. Okay, fair enough. A week later, after hearing nothing, I called back. I was told that the tech "has it on his desk" and would get back to me. THREE WEEKS LATER and nothing. I called and spoke to the tech. He said he would look at it and call me "later today." That was on a Thursday. By the following Saturday, I hadn't heard back, so I went in and asked them to just give me the PS3 back. The story is also dirty and the work area is a pile of junk, electronics, and random parts. Other people have mentioned things being lost and broken and I can see why. Your millage way vary but if I were you, I'd take my electronics literally anywhere else. read more

They broke my computer when they were repairing a cracked screen. It's been 5 months and they claim they can't find the part. Now they want to try to give me a different computer that's not even same or close to ours. They said they would give me a loaner and they game me a chrome book. Talk about insult to injury. Mine is a costume made $2k computer and you wanna loan me a fourth graders computer. I paid $300 for them to ruin my custom laptop. Find someone with more experience! read more

I was forced to pick 1 star but I AM GIVING COMPUTER ANSWERS A "0" RATING! I started my "journey" with Computer Answers in December of 2020. My HP laptop screen turned black. When I plugged my laptop into another device it worked fine so we knew the problem was just with the screen. Computer answers told me I needed a new screen, and it would cost me $365.00. Long story short, they put a new screen on and I couldn't control the curser when I got the lap top back, my original lap top has a "touch screen". I brought it back to them, they told me it was fixed, I got it home, it wasn't fixed. I brought it back again, they said it was fixed again, I checked it before I left the store, and guess what????? It wasn't. The MANAGER, told me he would order me a knew screen. He shut off my touch screen so I could use the laptop until they got the new screen in.....that was in February 2021. I talked to the VICE PRESIDENT, DUANE, and he said, "Well, if no one here is gonna take care of this I guess I will have too '. He said he would call me back, that was in March 2021. Everyone I delt with yessed me to death, but NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM!!!!! My next letter is to the Attorney General. I paid them right up front, the least they could do is fix my computer! read more

I took my 5-year-old laptop to the Clifton Park store for repair. $500.00 and a replaced hard drive later (disputed) the machine did not work. It was VERY slow on boot up, Microsoft OneDrive came on every boot up and didn't remember my password. That required re-registering every time, the same with google and outlook, requiring user name and password re-entry. Outlook simply didn't work, it opened but would not download emails. I didn't take the computer back to them because I felt that after paying that amount it should have worked properly. Regardless of their answer to this, the machine was not properly tested before being returned to me. $360 later at another repair shop they replaced the hard drive and it now works perfectly. I asked for my money back from Computer Answers, but they refused. read more

The first guy who fixed my phone screen didn't quite fix things 100%, BUT he got it done right away and before closing up for the night; friendly too. He said to call the next day to get things squared away, and the daytime fellow was really quick and helpful about fixing the issue. He explained things clearly, and although the price felt a bit steep they are open late and got it done. I'd go there again. read more

These guys are clumsy, disorganized, uncoordinated, and overwhelmed. Several different guys work there (I don't remember any of their names) and there's only one person there at a time. They do an awful job at communicating with each other and being consistent. It also takes them a while to receive the parts they order. I brought my laptop to them on October 5th because I was having trouble with my cooling fan. On October 8th someone called me, saying he cleaned the dust out of the laptop and no longer got the warning screen about the cooling fan, so I picked it up the next day. He charged me $45, which seemed a little odd because they offer free diagnostics and I didn't expect them to charge for something simple like a cleaning, but I paid him anyway and didn't make a big deal about it. As soon as I got home, the laptop gave me the same warning screen as before. I called them, told the guy to order a fan for me, and let me know when they got it so I could bring the laptop back to them and have them install it (which he offered to do at a discount, at least). On October 17th I called them to see if they got the fan yet, and spoke to a different guy. He said there was no record of me requesting the fan or of them ordering one, so he placed the order for me. When I told him to confront the other guy about it, he said it wasn't important and it didn't matter anymore. On October 24th I called them and asked if they got the fan yet and the guy said they did, so I went back there to drop off my laptop again. There was a different guy there, and he couldn't find the fan. It took him about five whole minutes to eventually find it, and it ended up being right in front of his face at eye level the whole time. On October 26th I picked up my laptop while a different guy was there, and when I got home I noticed there was something wrong with the screen. When I brought it back to them, he swore he saw nothing wrong with it before and there's no way anyone there could have possibly done anything wrong, leading me to believe it was somehow my fault. It took him about five minutes to find me in their system, fill out a form and print it. When he finally printed it and had me sign it I noticed it was for a completely different person, so I had to wait even longer for him to find and print the correct one. I had to repeatedly remind him of my name and phone number, and his English wasn't perfect. He also confronted me about leaving them a poor satisfaction score when I picked up my laptop earlier that night, so I had to explain everything that had happened up until that point. On October 30th I called them to see if my laptop was ready, and I spoke to a different guy who said their records showed I dropped off my laptop yesterday on the 29th. When I told him that was absolutely wrong, he said the guy I dealt with before must have forgotten to put the date in their system, and when another guy noticed it a few days later he put that day's date instead. Later that day he called me back, saying he discovered there was a loose wire and fixed it for free. When I picked it up the next day, he was there and confessed that he's the one who accidentally loosened the wire when he replaced my fan. What should have been a quick and easy job turned into a nightmare that lasted almost a full month. It was one bad thing after another. Stay far away from this place. P.S. - I just found a brand new scratch on my screen. I could bring my laptop back to them yet again and make a big scene, but I won't bother. I never want to see those people ever again. read more

I brought my laptop in to get my screen fixed. This was the last week in September. As of today, my laptop is still there and not fixed. I was told in October they were replacing a new screen. I provided them with the money to order the screen. The first week in November, I was told it wasn't the screen but the motherboard, and they were going to order it if that was ok. I told them to go ahead and order it. I forgot to check on my laptop due to the holiday. In December, I called to see if my laptop was ready. I was told a part was never ordered, and the last note they have was in October stating the new screen didn't work. They said they would look into it and have someone call me. Two weeks later, there was no call, so I showed up at the shop. I spoke to the manager and told told him I wanted my laptop back and my money refunded for a service that wasn't rendered. He told me he needed to speak with the owner, and he would call me by Thursday. Well, Thursday passed, and there was no phone call, I showed up, and there was no manager. I took my custom built 2008 MSI Intel Quad Core PC tower into the shop to get worked on. Was having issues with Blue Screens, over clocking and then my HD failed. I could have done the work myself but I am real busy at work and don't have all my normal tools being a transplant from VA. So I dropped it off. Here are some Negatives - 1. shop is over worked and understaffed. Techs ae coming off the bench to do counter work. 2. They have Vendor issues and need a better tracking system of parts they order. 3. The IT/PC geeks are real good on the Tech side but lack some skills with follow up to the Cust. Here are some Pos. - 1.They know what they are doing. 1000% better then those numb nuts at Best Buy (when I took my PC there 1st I had to tell the tech what my Heat Sync was. "I never seen one that big" he said) 2. They can put the stuff together fast and with high quality (if they get the parts see Neg above). 3. Their prices are in the ballpark with other similar stores and when they mess up they step up and admit it and will knock off some of the cost to get right with their customers. I will return to have more work done if needed on my PC or Laptops. If you need something simple, or a standard fix, then use them. If you have a custom issue or an issue where you need parts heads up you may have to wait a week or two, and follow up with them until they get staff in that can handle customer service leaving the Geeks on the bench where they belong. I loaded UniBlue software to clean my PC and check for updated drivers. Come to fine out that UniBlue was doing more damage then help Matt spent 6 hours resetting my PC and cleaning out all the problems UniBlue software caused. I took my HP laptop to Computer Answers to see if was worth fixing. Once it was ascertained that the laptop was not worth repairing, the staff person Lian was extremely helpful. He did an internet search and showed me different options for purchase, without pushing the sale of computers in the store. He was so helpful and knowledgeable that I ended up buying a rebuilt HP laptop from Computer Answers. I give them five stars for great customer service and technical expertise!!! read more

Called ahead to get an idea of what it would cost to fix the DC jack on my computer. It had gotten pushed into the laptop, and they told me over the phone that whether they had to reattach it or replace it the cost would be $40-60 and that if I brought it in I could pick it up the day after I dropped it off. I brought it in along with a second older computer that was not in working order. That was August 3. I didn't hear anything for two days, so on Friday night I called and they said that there is normally a 3 day diagnostic period (first I'm hearing about that, I was not told that when I dropped it off either). Then I was told I'd get a call back in about 15 minutes to let me know when the tech was available. No call. Saturday I called again. This time they said that it would cost over 130 dollars to repair. That is 2 to 3 times MORE than what I was originally told. Again I was told someone would have to call me back. This time I did receive a call and the technician said it would cost $65 plus tax and he could do it within a half hour. I said that was fine and I could pick it up on Monday. Monday I picked it up along with my other laptop which they never gave me a quote on fixing, or any information on what was wrong with it. Today is Tuesday, and while at least my computer is now charging, it no longer has any sound. I was told all I could do was drop it back off, after I just got it back to have them figure out why. How anyone can give this place 5 stars baffles me. I came in and dropped my phone off to be looked at as I had dropped it and broken the screen and I was told that they would do a diagnostic test on it to see exactly what it needed but that it looked like it was going to need a new glass screen and lcd screen. They said if that was the case,  they would need to order the part for it and it would take 2-3 days to get the part but they would have it ready that same day. At that time I was also told that it would cost $185.00 for the service ($140.00 for the part and $45 for an hour of labor)  I even confirmed that would be the final cost and was told that even if it took more than an hour to install...I would only be charged the hour for labor. I was told that the diagnostic would be done the next morning. I never got a call, so I called the following night and was told that it did need both screens replaced. I was then told the cost would be $207.50 for the part and an hour and a half of service. I tried to explain that I was already given a price at the store and I was told that this was the price it would be regardless of what I was told at the store. I agreed because I needed my phone.  I did not hear from anyone for an entire week. So I called in to find out what's going on. I was told that they had not received the part yet and that the cost would now be $230.00. I was now given 3 different prices for the service and after a week, my phone was no closer to being fixed. I asked if I could just come in and pick my phone up, that I did not want the service any longer. I was told I could. I then left my job and drove a half hour to the store to be told that they DID have the part and that I could take my phone but I would have to pay for the part because it was already there. I explained everything that happened to the manager who then told me that I could pay for the part and leave with it or he would give me a discount and I would only need to pay $189.54. Still more than I was originally told but he promised it would be ready by the end of the day. I agreed and came back at the end of my work day. The phone was in terrible shape. They bent the frame and used so much adhesive it was seeping out the sides. I was told that this was the best that could be done. I paid the bill and left... Extremely upset but I was at least glad to have my phone back. When I got home I grabbed my case... Which now did not fit because the screen was not put into the frame correctly and I grabbed my Sim card and went to put it in and found out that the tray that the Sim card need to be put into was missing. They lost it. I called and was told that they would look for it but if they didn't find it,  I would have to wait 5 days for one to come in. I then went on Amazon and ordered one myself which came in 2 days. When I finally got the tray and was able to make a phone call... The speaker was not hooked up correctly and I had to bring my phone back yet again and have it fixed. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with a company and received terrible customer service. What happened to me and how my phone turned out was completely unacceptable and I would never recommend anyone to go there. read more

Horrible experience here. 1. I brought in my laptop because it was having problems (turning off at random, freezing, scary blue screens, etc.). When I took the laptop in, it had Windows 10. When I got it back, it had Windows 7, which I did not ask for. Some of the problems had been fixed but it also came back with new ones, like the volume keys not working. 2. I brought it back and was told that the reason it was having problems now was because I was running Windows 7. When I pointed out that they were the ones who had installed Windows 7, which I had not asked for and did not want, I was told that I would still have to pay to have Windows 10 installed. Finally after multiple phone calls about this, I came into the store and talked to a manager who said they would do it for free. Again, I had to fight not to pay to fix the problem that THEY CAUSED. 3. Fast forward a few more months, laptop is still having the same problems along with a new ones (more freezing, turning off, inability to multitask). It also kept asking me for codes for Windows 10. Assuming this was related to their install, I brought it back hoping for an easy fix. I was told there was a virus causing the prompts for the codes, and that maybe it was the reason for the other stuff too. Okay, it's already there, might as well have them fix it even though I didn't have a whole lot of confidence in them. Two weeks passed. Wondering if I had missed a call or something, I called the store. I was told that no one really knew what was going on with it, but that the employee would call me back the next day with answers. No one called me back. Week three, I called again, and spoke to a different employee. He said that the laptop had been sitting there a while, wasn't finished, and that he didn't know what was going on with it because no one had left any notes about who was servicing it or what had been done. He also told me that he would call me back the next day. A second time in a row, no one called me back. A few days later, I called AGAIN, and was told that the laptop would be finished in a few hours. Great! They would call me when it was done. Surprise: no one called me back. I called again a few days later and was told that the laptop was finished, and that someone should have called me. Whatever, I was just glad to be done with the place. At this point they had had my laptop for about a month. When I picked it up, however, it was to discover that for some reason they had installed Windows 8--again, something I did not ask for and did not want. I had to bring it back again. I wasn't planning on leaving a review of any kind, except a few days later I've discovered that the laptop still has exactly the same problem that I brought it in for in the first place-- it is still having trouble multitasking. Obviously, I am never coming back to this place again, but I think everyone should know that not only is the service terrible, but the techs are apparently incompetent. read more

the first time I went here, they were very helpful and fixed my hp laptop with no problem. So, when my screen broke, I went back. They gave me a free diagnostic, telling me that my screen needed to be replaced and that it would cost $200 to fix it. So far, so good. Since it was the 3rd time I had problems with my very heavily used HP, I decided that I needed something more reliable and to buy an entirely new laptop. So, I told them over the phone thank you for the diagnostic, but I don't want to have it fixed. After receiving 2 phone calls asking me the same questions (and me giving them the same answer), I went in to pick it up THREE days later. "Your laptop is in pieces in the back, we were hoping that you would want us to fix it. I can put it back together but it will take about 2 hours". I was annoyed that they didn't listen to me; or, that they did listen to me, didn't get the answer they wanted, and then ignored it. So, I go back the next day to pick it up (again). The guy working takes a while to find it, then brings it out. "When they put the laptop back together, the clips weren't adhered correctly" (shows me how the front of the screen is detached from the back in places) "I can fix it for you but it will take about 15 minutes". Perhaps I was just a bit too irked at this point to give him the benefit of the doubt, but how I interpreted this was "We were hoping you would pay to have us fix your laptop and make our free diagnostic worth it. When you decided not to do so, we didn't bother taking time to put it back correctly". He then goes back to get my charger, which I take and walk out quickly. When I got home I realized he gave me the wrong charger. excellent. Come Monday, I get a phone call from the initial person I spoke with (when I dropped it off) saying that they mysteriously "received the screen for my computer" and that they could fix it for me, now for $175. I am glad they didn't try to make me pay for it, but if they had listened to me in the first part this probably wouldn't be an issue. So, overall, I don't doubt that they are good technicians. The first time that I went in, they did a good job and I was very satisfied. But really, if you can't listen to your customers, then I'm not particularly interested in returning. And, if you are going to base the effort you put into the work on the amount of money you are making from a customer, then don't bother with the "free diagnostic" sell. read more

Computer Answers is your quintessential computer store. It is a nostalgic place with wires and open boxes everywhere. I wanted nothing more than to like this store but unfortunately every time I visited I left with an unpleasant feeling. Firstly, let me start off with the positive aspects of the store. Their employees are knowledgeable and their prices are cheaper than their competitors (5x more expensive on average (at least for parts) than E-bay though - and they don't really have competitors). I am a software engineer with an academic background in computer science and I enjoy talking with their employees about IT topics. I honestly wish I could stop there but unfortunately it would be misleading. First let me start off by saying that their model is dead. Brick-and-mortar computer repair shops are done. That is why they don't have any competitors (they all went out of business). Your only hope is to get into electronics (such as Arduinos/PI's/and passive/active componenets) like TinkerSphere in NYC or you're doomed. I met their COO once and he was the most arrogant obnoxious moron I have ever encountered. He blatantly told me about their illegal hiring practices (unpaid "internships") and how their exploitation of labor sets them apart from their competitors. I needed a monitor for one of the PI's in my home lab and asked for the cheapest VGA monitor they had. The employee quoted me a price, I went to an ATM came back and he realized the monitor wasn't VGA and then upsold me on another junkie monitor (I use upsell lightly; it was a 17 inch dell from the late 90's). I bring it home and can't get it to work on anything. Tried my Raspberry PI (hdmi to vga) - no luck. Tried my laptop - no luck. Tried two more desktops - no luck. Ok, fine. I didn't even bring it back; I just took the loss. I go back a few weeks later to purchase a usb keyboard. I was in a rush and didn't check it out. I get it home and it's all sticky and covered with what I seriously hope is honey or something sticky but non-human. Ok whatever, so they burned me twice and have an idiot running their operations. I still wanted to like the place. Final straw - I had a coax plugged into my TV and my nephew ripped it out. This ripped the coax female component off the board. I ordered the component and brought the board and the component to computer answers. They quoted me a price to solder it (which I could have done myself, but again I wanted so bad to like this place) then when I came to pick it up I had to fight with the guy because he was trying to charge me for the labor and the component (a piece I brought to them). All in all it's just a frustrating experience dealing with them. read more

Horrible customer service and return policy. Was assured by an employee that a wifi device would be capable of working on my windows XP operating system. Did EVERYTHING to try and make it work even reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling all my drivers and windows XP. Recorded a video of me trying to get it to work and went to the store. They wouldnt even offer me store credit, or even a 10% discount on another product. The person working there attempted to test the device on a windows 8 operating system to try and prove to me that it works. I told him I had windows XP how is it going to prove anything. I have never asked for a refund on a product in my life let alone store credit let alone a 10% discount. I have never written a business review in my life. Would not recommend going to this place go somewhere else with a better return policy and customer service. read more

Too many issues. I brought in my custom built computer, because I was sure my processor broke (I could see that the gold pieces were bent on the chip so it wasn't fitting in properly) I bring my computer in. They tell me my motherboard is fried. They tell me I can order a part for 50, but it will cost them 200 to put in. The owner, Dwayne, kept trying to sell me a new computer, or to trade in my computer. I told him no...it's just the motherboard...I asked if they could fix my processor so I could sell it to them. Dwayne says no problem. I get a call from them a few days later, and whoever I talked to...again tried to sell me a new computer and tried to convince me to turn mine in for value. After having to explain to him why they even have my computer, he says he has to talk to the owner and they'll get back to me. 3 days later I call them, ask about the processor 'oh I don't know you'll have to talk to the owner'...had to explain to him I DID talk to the owner. He says he'll call me back. I get called about a day later, again trying to sell me a computer. It was quite ridiculous that I had to tell four different people that no I'm not selling my computer. I had to explain the processor to three different people. I finally just decided to pick my computer up, which I repaired myself for 40$. A day or two later after I got my computer back, I was called again to let me know my processor is fixed. I told the guy no, I don't want the processor back, I wanted them to fix it so they could buy it off me. He says 'Oh. I'll have to run some tests on it then to be sure it works properly.' So...you were going to give me back my processor without making sure it even works? How lovely. They have never called me again, and that was months ago. Good thing I don't care about my old processor, but I am NEVER going to them again. This was the one on Route 9 Clifton Park. And I honestly hope they never call me again. Came in to get my kids tablet fixed, ended up buying an IPad instead. I asked if the IPad would do everything her other tablet did, such as download games and YouTube and Netflix. Was assured it would do everything just fine. Not knowing anything about tablets I trusted the "professional". Got it home and hooked it up to the internet only to find out that it is so outdated it wouldn't download games or YouTube. Called them to see what they would do since they sold it to me under false pretenses, they told me they could only give me store credit. Ok no problem I'll get something different. Except the only thing they had to offer me was $200 on top of what I paid for he first one. So do I throw away the money or pay the extra $200? Customer service was horrible, didn't offer a case or anything extra for my troubles because they messed up. Oh did I mention I had to drive to the Clifton Park store to complete this wonderful situation. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I am a local medical student who relies on the use of my laptop for studying. One morning, the charger port on my laptop cracked, so I headed to the local "Computer Answers" to see if they could provide a quick fix to a simple problem. I brought it in on a Saturday morning and was told I would receive a call later that night with the diagnosis. After not hearing for 12 hours, I called the store. I was told this was a "very easy repair" that would only take a few hours to fix. I was informed it would take about a week for the correct part to arrive and would be ready to pick up the following weekend. I agreed on a price, having no idea how much of a mistake this was. After not hearing for two weeks, I started getting annoyed. I need my laptop and not having it was starting to affect my grades. I called for an update and was told the part had arrived and it would be ready in the next day or two. A week passed and I still had not received a call. I called again and was told the same thing - that it would be ready in a day or two. I figured they were busy and tried to remain patient, even though they were already two weeks past the date that we agreed on. After 4 weeks in total had passed, I started calling every day to see what the hell was going on. Initially, they were giving me the run around, saying it would be ready in that night or the next morning. Eventually, they admitted that only one person at the store was capable of performing the repair and that he only worked 1 or 2 days a week. I asked for them to call this guy and have him come and work on my repair which was already 3 weeks late, to which the guy on the phone laughed and said "he is the president of the store, we can't tell him when to come in." This really pissed me off. After about 6 weeks, the guy finally came in to finish my laptop. They made it seem like he was doing me a huge favor by spending the afternoon devoted to my repair. He tried to replace the part and then all of a sudden my computer stopped turning on altogether. They then tried to sell me on buying a new motherboard from their store, but I already learned my lesson and then some. I politely asked them to put my computer back together and that I was coming to get it to send to Lenovo. I should have given it to the professionals who knew what they were doing from the start. Yet, just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, I was in for another surprise when I arrived to pick it up. They handed me back my laptop without the stylus and without the charger. When I told them they were missing, they started searching through the entire store for them. It was like looking for a needle in a haystack. Everything was completely disorganized and everyone's stuff was mixed with each other. They ended up finding my stylus but could not find my charger, so they simply took someone elses and handed it to me. Shockingly, this charger broke within one week of use. After sending my laptop to Lenovo, they uncovered many more damages that were likely due to the botched repair job. I ended up having to get my entire hard drive and mother board replaced, essentially wiping away 3 years of medical school notes and work. And, to make matters worse, this store failed to put half the screws back into the computer, so now there is a constant little opening on the bottom of my laptop. To sum it up, the service at "Computer Answers" was absolutely terrible. It took 5 weeks to realize they were not capable of completing a repair that they promised would take a few hours, while also managing to further damage my laptop and lose my charger. During this ordeal, I did not receive a single call to give me an update. I had to call every day to see what the hell was going on. This was one of the most unprofessional places I have ever come across. I would not recommend this store to anyone. They are 1 star in every way possible. Stay away. read more

A tech from Computer Answers came to my house to repair a cracked screen on my cell phone (they are contracted by the insurance company that I have coverage with). Went on line to check out this site after our son mentioned the work performed on his m-i-l's PC .. When I researched the site and saw the hours (9-9 / 7 days) I was already impressed. Cliff an employee contacted me through the chat line as well so. I had just set up an appt, he was great to chat with and answered my questions. Danielle also contacted me and confirmed my date and time for bringing in our 5 yr old Acer. We took it in last Monday (I believe) for a free diagnostics, but advised that it had likely crashed. Duane the store manager at the Clifton park location was friendly, very knowledgeable and showed us several nicely refurbished laptops. later that evening we got the repair quote and agreed to the repair. We received the laptop back on Wednesday and are immensely pleased with the results. It is highly functional, moves faster than it did when new ! Windows 10 was added and old data was carefully stored.. Hats off to this organization and their well trained customer friendly staff for their knowledge and professionalism..something that is hard to find today. I also learned that they accept older pc's and laptops and cleans them out as well as refurbishes them for Homes for Habit charity, This is a great community focused organization as well, it is worth it to just check out the store ! I did not anticipate absolute chaos. I have never felt so disappointed in a purchase for services. I had a cracked iPhone 5s black screen and did some research to get it repaired. I work 11-7 so with a nice quote and great hours (9-9) I GPS'd the East Greenbush location. I arrived at 9am on Tuesday to get it repaired. I arrived at the door to find out they did not open until 10 and close at 7. I occupied myself until Kevin (?) arrived and explained to him that I needed my phone fixed asap and wondered if he could do it. If not I could find somewhere else. He was extremely friendly and said he'd get it done for me that day by 3 but I had work so he would keep the shop open a little past 7 so I had time to get out of work to retrieve my phone. I looked up directions on how to get to and from my work location and went on my way. I left work early so I could arrive at 7 to find another guy who had no idea I was even possibly coming in past closing so I'm glad I arrived when I did. When I identified myself and the item I was looking to pick up, he had no idea what I was talking about. He called Kevin who asked to speak with me on the phone. Kevin explained that they actually didn't have the iphone 5s screen in stock as previously thought and that he would pick one up first thing in the morning from the albany location and bring it to East Greenbush. He asked Would I be willing to leave my phone until the next morning? I agreed and used their public computer to get directions to my house and left. Wednesday morning I arrived at 9:45am and patiently waited in my car until 10:10 when Kevin arrived and unlocked the store. I followed in soon after and he greeted me with an apology that he was unable to pick up the screen from Albany. He said he could maybe have someone deliver it or I could pay for the part there and take my receipt to Albany to get the screen fixed. If the Albany store was busy, to get the screen from them and take it back to East Greenbush and Kevin would finish the work. I agreed to drive to Albany, prepaid for the service, and used my cracked phone to GPS my way to Albany. I arrived to Albany to meet Tony. I handed him the parts and the receipt and asked him to please fix my phone. He said the guy that could fix it would be in at 11 (I arrived at the Albany store at 10:55). He said I could take a seat or use a computer to kill the time. Then an older man came on.He seemed like a pain of a customer but still a customer. The older man (Felix?) started to lay into Tony about his poor customer service and demanded to know why Tony hung up on him earlier regarding a computer and how upset he was. Yes, Tony said if Felix was unhappy with the work that Computer Answers was providing, he was more than welcome to take his business elsewhere. As Felix grew more angry, instead of just calling the authorities, Tony began to argue back. It was entirely uncomfortable for me to stand there and witness the whole thing, and then to have another customer also walk in who looked just as uneasy about the exchange. Felix ended up leaving in a huff with no resolution. At 11:20ish, the other tech was still a no show. I asked if I could just take the screen so I could return to East Greenbush with it because I was late to work. Tony said he couldn't even find the screens so no. And I had already paid for the part so I couldn't take my phone and get it fixed elsewhere. At 11:30ish he said he found a 5s screen and would get it started. He then said "You can leave and we'll call you when it's done." I politely replied that I wasn't from the area and needed my phone GPS to get out of Albany and that I just wanted to wait there until my phone was finished being fixed. 11:40 the other tech comes in and is surprised that not only has Tony not completed the screen repair, but he hasn't even started it. "Dude, it's simple. Did you even look at the parts?" I was losing my confidence in the store even more. At roughly 12:10, the guys informed me that the black screen replacement they had didn't work but that they have a white screen they could use instead if I wanted the phone fixed today. I replied jokingly " You guys are killing me." Tony rolled his eyes and shrugged his shoulders. I said fine just do it. I really needed my phone for work purposes. I finally walked out at about 12:40. As I looked at the screen I realized the brightness of the screen is off and that the replacement of the screen itself must be a knock-off because when I type or click on apps, the click often doesn't even register. It takes thrice as long to get emails knocked out on my phone then with my cracked screen. I also wasn't informed that having my screen replaced would disable the iTouch password which now has me locked out of a few apps. The top part of the screen actually doesn't even work. I posted a review on their fb page and someone deleted it. The post was not as in depth as this one. The company will not send me my refund of $135. My cell phone broke when I was out of town, on May 10th. I contacted Computer Answers, Bennington VT the same day to see if they could fix my phone while I was in town. They told me they could, so on May 11th I paid a deposit of $135. My account was debited and this was the last phone I received from them. I was told they would follow up with me and let me know about the part, there was no follow up. I was only in town for a few days, I had to return home on Saturday May 13th so the manager Michael Cook told me that the part should be there on Monday, May May 15th and he would ship my phone to me. On Monday, I called to check if my phone was fixed and was told the shipping department sent the wrong part. At this point I asked for my phone to be shipped overnight to me so I could fix it locally. I received my broken phone on Thursday, May18th. It was not shipped until Tuesday, May 16th. Also, I should mention that my screen was black, other buttons lit up, I just needed a new screen. When I received my phone, the home button was missing and the phone was not in any shape to be repaired at this point. The following Monday, May 22 I called to ask if my refund had been processed. I was told it would be processed that day. The following Friday, May 26 I still had not received my refund. I called and Michael Cook told me that they had processed it but the money was returned to them. (This doesn't make sense.) He said he already processed the refund again, but to give it some time since it was Memorial weekend, due to banks being closed on the holiday. He also told me that the refund would be for $143.10, which was more than I paid, again this didn't make sense. I would just like the amount I paid. This was my last phone call to the company. I called my bank on Tuesday, May 30th to see if there were any pending transactions for my account and there wasn't, so I filed a report with my bank that same day. To date, I still have not received my refund, nor have I received any follow up from the company. read more

First i have to say the experience with the employees and owner at computer answers was wonderful. I was in pantic mode, due to computer getting smashed with viruses and had a resume that needed to be in by Friday. I walked into computer answers albany store on Wednesday and told them my story. I was unemployeed at the time and was on a hardcore job search when i was totally locked out of my computer due to viruses. When i brought it to computer answers the technician reasured me that i was going to be able to get my computer back by Thursday night, infection free, along with a memory upgrade and the machine performing like it did the day it was purchased. This calmed my nerves a little bit but still was freaking out in the back of my head. Either way it was out of my hands and I slept on it. When i woke up the next morning (Thursday) before i could finish my breakfast , i was getting a phone call from the technician at computer answers letting me know the Quote cost to fix my machine along with a time in the afternoon i could come and pick my machine up. This was the greatest Relief i had ever had.!! . When i did pick my machine up , everything was working great and had no problems meeting my deadline for my Resume being Due. I brought my HP ENVY DV7 laptop here because it was running slow on 9/21/16. I was told they would run a free diagnostic to see what the issue is. I turned on my laptop for them when windows loaded it played the windows melody. I got a call the next day say the hard drive was bad. I went there in person to get more information. I expressed my concern several times, I do not want to lose any of my data, pictures, videos, music and so forth. After being assured they can recover all my files I said ok replace the hard drive with a SSD hard drive (Include: Parts, Labor, Windows 10 version and Transfer of All Files). I got a call Sunday so my laptop is all set and I could pick it up. So I did, on 9/23/16. I did not have time to check it out, so I paid for it and brought it home. That same evening I decided to check it over. To my surprise none of my pictures, videos, or files where there. Also come to find out my speakers were not working. So I brought it back Monday, 9/24/16. After speaking to Elliot I was told the hard drive might have died in the middle to transfer which I found to be weird. He told me his techs' are the best, and they know what they were doing, while not once was I told 'Hey we not might not be able to save your data.' He said let me check to see if it is still backed up on the external hard drives they use. Low and behold all my data was on the external hard drive but not on my laptop. That was a red flag for me. Either the tech that worked on my laptop is incompetent or he didn't care. I told him my speakers were now not working either. I was told to leave it and they would take a look at it and call me. One week later after no phone call I stopped by to see if any updates. Nope, my laptop sitting in the same exact spot when I had dropped it off. I was assured one of the techs would call me with a status update the next day. Another six days go by and nothing. So I stop by Sunday, 11/6/16, same thing, the laptop sitting in the same exact spot. No one has touched it. The kicker is now they are saying my speakers are blown. Now I am wondering how is that possible, when I originally dropped it off it was working fine now all the sudden the speakers are blown. I ended up picking up my laptop without my speakers working. I played with it and found out the correct driver was not installed. Downloaded the correct drive and now my "blown speakers" are working (took me less the 45 minutes to find and download correct driver). Spoke to the owner, told him about the speaker issue which i resolved myself, i hear a rattling like A screw or something is not secured, getting a error message that my windows license is about to expire and need to take action. He told me to bring it to the East Greenbush location, 30 minutes away from my house. So i did, when i dropped it off there i explained my concerns again. I got a call the next day that everything is all set and come pick it up. Now about a month later still getting message Windows version is expired, Cannot connect to the Internet. To sum it up, look else where for your computer repairs. Learn from my horrible experience here and don't make the same mistake. After this experience i would not recommend them to anyone. If you like being lied and having incompetent people working on your machines then this is the place for you, OTHERWISE FIND A DIFFERENT PLACE FOR YOU COMPUTER REPAIRS. This is going to be a long review, so if you don't want to read the whole thing, here's the gist: don't go here ever for any reason. I went to computer answers because they agreed to match the Apple Store price to fix my iPhone 6 screen, and they would do it two days earlier. It seemed like a great deal. The guy on the phone said it would take about thirty minutes... But little did I know, I was in for one of the worst nights of my life. I arrived at the store at around 7:10pm and there was one customer ahead of me, so I had a little bit of a wait. This was fine. I'm a pretty patient person, I wasn't about to get mad because someone got there before me. However, once the technician got to me, around 7:35, everything went downhill very quickly. He had a screen in stock, but in the process of installing it, he discovered that it did not work. He came over to where I was waiting, a bit antsy at this point, and told me he needed to go to another branch of the store to get another screen. It was a small errand that would take around fifteen minutes, or so he told me at 8pm. This irritated me, but I was willing to put up with it because he promised to have me out of the store by 9pm and. Forty minutes later, he returned with my screen. At this point, it was evident that I was not going to be out by 9. Upon his return, the other technician was going to make a coffee and food run. He asked me if I wanted anything, and I politely refused. Instead of taking no for an answer, he pushed me until I (clearly uncomfortable with the situation at this point) agreed to let him buy me a bagel. The main reason I'm including this is why did he need to pressure me, a young female college student, into accepting food from someone that I do not know? This, to me, was blatantly unprofessional and I did not appreciate it in the slightest. He went back to working on my phone, and took his time with it too, making jokes with his coworkers and being somewhat unprofessional instead of getting the job done for me, visibly upset at this point. Finally 9:30 rolls around. I was angry. I wanted to go home. I'd been at this store for nearly five times as long as I had anticipated. He gave me my phone and took his sweet time ringing me up, and then I finally got out of there. As I left, he told me it was great meeting me, like that's going to make this situation any better. I went to the gas station across the street to wait to be picked up, and I discovered that there is some sort of debris on the inside of the glass in front of my front facing camera, so the image isn't clear. The store had already closed, and I just wanted to get home already after being out for two and a half hours, so now I have to go back and get them to remove my screen and clean that out. Computer Answers seems like a good place on the surface. They're friendly on the phone, accommodating, they make you feel like you're going to have a good experience. But after using their services, I would never recommend to anyone that they go here. It will not go well. You will leave with a jaded worldview, like you can't trust any computer technician ever again. Don't put yourself through that. Just find a quality place to go that is not Computer Answers. Unfortunately, I had a horrible experience with this place. I believe it was a guy named Mike who worked on my computer. After he replaced the key board I picked up my computer and the keyboard did not work at all. So I dropped it off and when I picked it back up again my windows wouldn't start. So I had to bring it back. And pay for a windows upgrade. Then after I had them running a diagnostic, they told me that everything was fine. A week after having my laptop it turns out I need a new hard drive, something I wish I knew before prior investing. Another employee, Elliot, attempted to sell me a more expensive version off Microsoft saying, he believes it is "more" compatible. There's no such thing as "more" compatible it either is or it isn't. The employees here are very shady and wouldn't be surprise if they traded out my good hard drive for a bad one. The only people that were honest and able to help me was LiberTek on Western Ave, I will be going there from now on. In fact when I told them I went to computer answers, they just laughed. Don't be fooled by their advertisement and semi well constructed web site for marketing purposes. These people are dishonest and should not be trusted. read more
