Lamb Haneeth- Braised lamb shoulder over Hadrami rice. $32. Delicious
    Glenn C.

Best dishes/recommendations- Lamb in general. Fahsa, haneeth, kebdah, and muhalabia for dessert. I have been to this outstanding Yemeni spot twice, once several months ago and once a couple of weeks ago. Even after their more recent recommendation by the New York Times, there was not much change between visits, and I am happy about that. The service was friendly and helpful both times. Like most Yemeni places, there is free hot black tea, which was stronger and only mildly sweet compared to the nearby Yemen Cafe. They also offer Adani Chai, a more spiced tea, available hot or cold, plus a few other unique drinks, including a mix of limeade and milk called Aseer Leem and Zabeeb (or Naqe'e Al Zabib,) made from raisins. Both times we started with the Shafoot for $12, a fermented flatbread with herb buttermilk sauce and pomegranate seeds. This was the only dish that showed a notable difference in presentation, as the more recent visit included some tomatoes and lettuce on top. The best comparison I can make for this dish would be injera, as there was a mild fermented flavor along with the buttermilk sauce, which added some freshness. It was unique and pretty tasty both times, though not our favorites. My favorite appetizer was the Kebdah, or spiced lamb liver stir-fried with fresh local vegetables. It's either $18 without hummus or $23 with, and I would recommend the latter. They might not offer hummus as one of their appetizers, but it is excellent, being thick with a good amount of tahini flavor. Otherwise, the liver is cut up finely and cooked perfectly with a very mild iron flavor. There was otherwise a mix of spices and veggies. If you don't want the taste of offal, there is also the similar Lahm Sugar at the same price point, made with the same flavors and veggies, but full of tender and tasty lamb cubes. The best main dish here is the $28 Beef Fahsa, or braised short ribs in a spiced broth. I love similar dishes at other Yemeni spots, and this one is just better with plenty of tender beef inside. The Rashoosh, a flat bread with a crackly outside from the fire, is a perfect vessel to sop up the wonderful broth and meat, and if I were here solo, I would just order this and have an excellent meal. The other best dish is their take on Lamb Haneeth for $32, or braised lamb shoulder over Hadrami rice, with the Hadrami referring to smoked basmati rice with nuts and crispy fried onions. The lamb is fall-off-the-bone tender, though I would say that the second time, there was a piece or two of fat that wasn't fully rendered. Outside of this, the lamb was perfectly cooked and went nicely with the rice. Also tasty for the same price is their Muva Fish, or charred butterflied branzino brushed with bishas adani and served with sahawek jubn. The sahawek, also available as a side dish, refers to smashed tomatoes and feta seasoned with garlic and chili, and adds a unique sour and slightly fermented flavor to the fish. Otherwise, the fish is cooked beautifully, but you will have to look out for bones. This was also tasty. Simplest is the $20 Chicken Aqda, or seared, shredded chicken sauteed with local veggies and spices, which is also available alternatively with lamb for $8 more. In terms of veggies, there was a good amount of tomatoes, and the chicken had a slight and pleasant char to it. This was also good. Outside of the aforementioned rice and sahawek, there have been a few other side dishes given to us. We've gotten a tasty little salad with a bright dressing each time, which is certainly better than the off-green lettuce and tomatoes at the other spots. They also gave us some type of tomato-based hot sauce one time, which had a mild kick and helped reduce the richness of the lamb. For dessert, I have tried two. The best of them by a lot was their excellent take on Muhalabia for $15, or creamy mastic white chocolate topped with pistachios. It can be best described as an Arabic panna cotta with a floral flavor, and this was particularly nice with a lot of pistachios on top of the smooth and silky custard. I would recommend this heavily. One of the only things I wouldn't recommend would be the Areeka, or minced rashoosh bread & dates, topped with qishta & honey. Usually, the portion of this dish is quite large, but this was a bit smaller with a very modern presentation. Outside of the size, the rashoosh was a lot drier than in other versions I have had. The topping is delicious, but I wouldn't recommend it much. This is easily the best of all the Yemeni spots I've been to and they deserve all their accolades.

Delicious Lamb Haneeth with Hadami rice and Yemeni salsa

Located at 7721 5th Ave in Brooklyn NY the restaurant Yemenat brings you authentic Yemeni cuisine that you will remember! The parking in Bayridge is a little tricky but I can tell you the hassle is worth it! The exterior is clean and inviting, the interior is very clean and inviting with around 30-40 seats. They are open everyday from 1:00pm to 11:00pm, I did a late lunch/early dinner around 2:30pm and was able to get a seat without a reservation. The servers were friendly and informative and helped me with my choices. I started with a house salad and a refreshing drink with limeade, mint and milk called Aseer Leem. The salad was crisp with fresh tomatoes, onions and a variety of leafy greens with a delightful vinaigrette. The Aseer Leem hit the spot on a summer day, the full flavor will definitely quench your thirst. My main dish was Lamb Haneeth, braised and marinated Lamb that was the most tender and succulent lamb I have ever eaten over delicious Hadami rice and sahawq(a Yemeni salsa). When combined with the warm and fresh Rashoosh (Yemeni bread) rice, and salsa it transcends your tastebuds to a different stratosphere. I will stand by what I said earlier..."Best Lamb I have ever had"...sorry mom! Highly recommend you try this restaurant! It definitely earned its place on the Michelin guide and NY times top 100 restaurants!

Yemenat is easily one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. I have made the trip out from Queens multiple times, and it has been worth it every single time. The food is consistently packed with flavor, the portions are massive, and the hospitality stands out in a way that keeps you coming back. If it is your first time, you really cannot go wrong with the beef fahsa and lamb haneeth since those are the staples. I would also recommend the lamb sughar. I make it a point to switch things up on each visit, and I have yet to be disappointed. This is one of the few places I genuinely go out of my way to recommend to others.

Great service! Super accommodating to us for not having a reservation. Got there at 7pm and had an entry around 8:15pm. Lime Drink- 7/10. Super refreshing, perfect for summer. Lamb Shoulder- 8/10. spicy in the perfect way. Beef Fasha- 10/10. Love this so much, with a good amount of spice and flavor. Comes with bread! Not pictured: yogurt lime dressing and smashed feta and tomato dip. So so good! Makes me wanna come back just for it. 10/10. Came here for a date night and was so nice. Portions were big so come in with an empty stomach or be prepared for lots of leftovers!

Very flavorful food & good value for the amount of food served (it looked like our flatbread was comped / may have been included w one of the entree platters)! We tried both types of chicken and the fish - the rice was amazing! I loved the blend of herbs that they used - it had a super refreshing taste. We also got a large flat bread and a yogurt dip which were yummy. The table next to use had a large platter in which they combined the 2 types of chicken & a lamb dish that looked pretty cool visually. The space itself is great as an elevated but still casual date spot or a place to gather w a group of friends. We also saw lots of families eating here earlier in the evening. Don't forget to try the free tea in the back (though pretty strong). I'd return if I were in the area.

Needed a spot for dinner in the area on a Thursday evening after seeing the Dyker Heights lights, and Yemenat was perfect! My boyfriend and I walked in and got a table right away, but it was packed so I would make a reservation if you can. We ordered: + Hummus - great + Beef fahsa with rashoosh - Omgggg beef was so succulent. Top highlight for me. Bread was also incredible + Salata - excellent + Yemeni sundae - excellent Will be back!!

Delicious food and fast, friendly service. My group of 4 showed up on a Sunday without reservations at 6:30pm and we had to wait 10 min for a table. Everything we ordered was delicious and portions were generous. Shafoot - fermented flatbread that had a spongy texture with herb buttermilk sauce that tasted like an Indian chutney. It was light and refreshing. Kebdah with hummus - spiced lamb liver with vegetables that was delicious and flavorful. Aqdah chicken - shredded chicken with spices and vegetables in a pancake like shape. Was one of our favorite dishes! Lamb haneeth - braised lamb shoulder over hadrami rice with almond slivers. The lamb was fall off the bone tender and amazing! Beef fahsa - braised short ribs in a spiced brother. Beef was so tender and broth was very flavorful. All of the entrees came with rashoosh or hadrami rice (smoked basmati rice garnished with nuts and crispy fried onions). Rashoosh is flaky, layered bread that's crispy from being baked in a clay oven. It was the perfect pairing for all the dishes and also very large!

The lamb haneeth was among the best dishes I've ever had, which is something I don't just throw around. Just pure ecstasy of flavor, tenderness, and texture. Service was also wonderful, and the space was lovely. I only wish I lived closer to Bay Ridge!

So worth the trip to Bay Ridge! Absolutely delicious. Everything melted in your mouth so beautifully. Decently big space and clean. Service was great too.

Lunch at Yemenat in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn NYC. Lamb haneeth, unlimited free spiced tea, salad, and Lahm Sughar. Food came out quickly and tasted amazing Staff super friendly and attentive. Great with dietary restrictions. Can't wait to come back. Yemeni cuisine is my favorite middle eastern. Note: credit card surcharge.

Excellent excellent food. Polished and comfortable. We walked in without a reservation on Friday night with a group of five and was seated without an issue. The charbroiled chicken was excellent, as well as the lamb sughar with hummus. The bread reminds me a bit of a scallion pancake in its flaky texture and was amazing in combination with the sughar and hummus. The Beef Fahsa was okay, but I'm not a huge fan of stew in general. It was colorful, filling, flavorful, and rich without being too heavy. The tomato/feta and pickled lime sides were good but I wouldn't order it again. Maraq was also okay, but my favorite will always be from Yemen Cafe. Next time, I would love to try the shafoot, which looked beautiful in presentation.

    Yamna A.

It was perfect. No notes. Highly reco lamb haneeth, beef fahsha and the ice cream dessert. Service was amazing too. Food came out quickly!! They should offer complimentary soup like yemen cafe does. :)

A place so nice, I had to come back twice in two days! Bay Ridge is quite a distance from my end of town but whenever I'm in the area I make sure to maximize on the offerings one of Brooklyns's best neighborhoods has to offer. Yemenat was a superb dining destination and the presentation of the food was quite progressive while maintaining authenticity, which is not an easy task while keeping prices reasonable. The ambiance here is somewhere between semiformal and casual: it's not fancy but it's also not a total hole-in-the-wall. The space is simple but clean and inviting, and the service is attentive, though a bit confusing at times as to who does what and where. There's a counter all the way in the back but you can seat yourself at a table and someone from the staff will bring you a menu and take your order. All else aside, the star of the show at Yemenat is the food. The menu has plenty of variety in terms of meat, seafood and vegetarian options and my friend and I split a shafoot, an order of the lamb burma, and an order of the areeka with an Adani tea to wash it down. The flavors of Yemeni food are subtle but the textures were quite unique and made the experience pleasant. The shafoot was soft and spongy with a tartness at the end that made it delectable, the burma was fall off the bone tender and each bite was as succulent as could be. My favorite dish of the meal, and what made me come back the very next day, was the areeka: shredded bread mashed with dates and under a layer of cream, honey, and black seed make for a unique and exceptionally smoky and tasty aftertaste. Great experience and absolutely worth a visit!
