I am a fan of all things that showcase local in Baton Rouge. So, this event is right up my alley!…read moreThis year (hopefully it will stay at this location), it was set at the Burden Center. The sights were picturesque and plenty of room for the kiddos, who attended the event, to run around. Family-friendly... yes, this definitely was, and kids under 12 were free! It was calm, serene and the weather was plain perfect for this outdoor shindig. It was a garden party, indeed! Various restaurants were represented featuring chefs that knew Southern cuisine and where to properly source ingredients keeping it Louisiana grown and made. Craft cocktails made by area mixologists and bartenders, one being award winner John Morris from Sidebar/Bin 77 and desserts made by Les Amis Bake Shoppe. I have to say I was a tiny bit jealous of the kiddos, who got to roast hot dogs over the open flames; now that looked like a hoot! I enjoyed dishes creatively prepared by executive chefs and their sous chefs. Participating restaurants were: Magpie Cafe, Tallulah (inside the Renaissance) and Table Kitchen and Bar, just to name a few. Local grocery delivery company - IndiePlate - was also there to answer questions about Louisiana-sourced ingredients and to meet fellow guests. I am huge supporter in the Slow Food movement and I would love to see this event continue in the years to come. So, get out there and support your local chapter: http://slowfoodbr.org/. Tune-in for their various events, socials and educational seminars.

This event is simply AMAZING…read more Signing in was a breeze and very well-organized. All the vendors were extremely passionate about their dishes and presentation. You can tell by the unique flavors that emanated from each item. All the chefs and volunteers were extremely nice and welcoming too. You can tell A LOT of planning, preparation, and hard work were put into this event. The location was gorgeous to take photos! The weather was rather warm but the lighting was on point. There were activities to keep the kids busy while the adults sipped on locally brewed beer and sample amazing cocktails too. Overall, I hope to have more time to attend Slow Food BR events in the future. We will definitely try to attend next year's Fall Heat event.

Willie's definitely delivered where it mattered most: the crawfish. I started with 3 pounds and…read morebefore I knew it, ordered 2 more. That alone should tell you how good they were. The crawfish were flavorful, seasoned well, and priced right, which is honestly the perfect combination when you're sitting down ready to eat. They had that messy, not really spicy, addictive quality that keeps you reaching for "just one more" until the tray is empty. I also tried the buffalo wings. They weren't that great, if I'm being honest, but I was hungry so they got the job done. The crawfish are clearly the star of the show here anyway. The atmosphere felt relaxed and unpretentious, exactly the kind of place you want for seafood with friends, cold drinks, and a table full of shells piling up by the minute. If you're wondering whether I'll be back, I already have.

I read the yelp reviews and was expecting to taste cajun flavors since we were visiting Louisiana…read morebut we were disappointed by the lack of seasoning. I guess I was expecting my shrimp would be covered in cajun sauce but it came plane with cajon seasoning and a dipping sauce on the side. We also tried frog legs which was tasty. The service was quick and the lady who served us was very nice, her name is Heron S. We were seated in a room with other ladies and families. It felt like home, people having pleasant conversations We were lucky it was Monday and the shrimp was the special of the day.

Last night in Baton Rouge and was looking for a place to have a nice meal before a travel day…read moreahead. The reviews looked promising so I thought... why not? When I arrived it was honestly dead inside. Maybe one other customer and I had to ask if they were still open because it was oddly slow. But you want to know what was not dead? Their food! I ordered a glass of wine and the beef tenderloin cooked medium rare. He steak came with fingerling potatoes and veggies. The steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly, the veggies had a slight crunch and not overcooked and the fingerling potatoes were the perfect add to that dish. I sat at the bar and had the place to myself but overall really enjoyed my food. Friendly staff and very happy with my experience.

Nice place with a good sounding menu. Will go back to try other things. Had the truffle oysters…read morewhich were good but basic. The tuna salmon carpaccio was good, little thrown off as it was warm which had me worried. But it was very good and balanced. The rice puffs were addicting. lobster roll was good even Though it was cold style which is not my favorite but the bread was delicious and they filled it nicely. Just need to provide more butter. Their fries were airy and consistent. The only not good part was the tiramisu and the colada drink. The cookie wafers were too much and too dense. All in all will come back.
