I had been waiting to try the location on Georgetown so I was excited to find out a location opened up in Union market. The line was out the door as there isn't much area to wait inside but it did move relatively quick. I tried the lamb pita, blossom cookie, and the honey latte. Everything was incredible. If you like waiting in lines that don't move for 30+ minutes and charge bogus 3% "wellness fees" this is the spot for you! The food is unfortunately not good enough to justify a wait longer than 5-10 mins on the busiest day. Staff is disappointingly inefficient at moving customers through the line. Instead, they stand around idly while indecisive people try to place an order instead of taking orders from people who are ready. It's a bummer that staff allows patrons to continuously let multiple people join them in the line. It was frustrating for those of us who keep getting pushed back in line. My party of 3 and two other parties walked away after 35 minutes in a line that never moved forward, only backward. It didn't seem like too many people were coming out either. The space is very small with not enough seating for all the people so presumably we should've seen takeout orders exiting the restaurant. Who knows what was going on, but I'm crossing this off my list of places in Union Market to return to. read more

Wonderful spot to grab a bite to eat of some coffee to break up the work day. They have creative coffee drinks - my favorite so far is the baklava latte. Everyone working there is kind and helpful. One thing i don't love is how packed it can get and it can be difficult to find a spot to sit because so many people are working there during the day. read more

Not sure what all the fuss is about. The coffee was, in fact, not good. The pastries were mid. And the hot chocolate was watery and bitter (I am willing to consider that this kind of hot chocolate is an acquired taste, but certainly not for kids. And certainly not for me. I prefer homemade that is made from melted chocolate). And, everything is expensive now, but $8 for a pastry is a lot to ask. Plenty of other great options in dc. Went for lunch at 12, but egg items (like my intended order of shakshuka) was only available until 11, which was not only disappointing, but also significantly cuts down on the menu options overall. The charred onion hummus was a decent portion, had a great balance of chunky onions, and the pita chips that come with it are unique, clearly homemade, and delicious. We should have asked for more of them to finish the hummus. My colleagues got one steak pita and one chicken pita. While flavorful, they are very small for the price ($21 for steak, $17 for chicken). The cappuccino was underwhelming with a joltingly bitter aftertaste. All of the pastries looked worthwhile-- my pistachio basbousa melted on the tongue in a buttery / nutty bite that I would order again. Stopped in on a whim and not that I expected otherwise but yum! I've seen the lines in previous attempts but happened to be at Union Market just as they were opening for evening dinner and I thought why not? And there was no line tonite. Because it wasn't planned, I grabbed a quick takeout order. My time was limited so didn't have time to study the menu, my eyes went straight to the Autumn veggie kebab and the soft serve w/ a rose meringue and + orange blossom honey. Minimal wait, I took in the decor. Very trendy and a fantastic playlist. No surprise having visited both sister spots, La'Shukran and Albi. I love the lighting, so moody and the open kitchen. It's casual and chill but like upscale at the same time. The staff are terribly pleasant. Upon returning home, I literally planned to take a bite of the kebab and tend to other things. However that first bite had me in a chokehold! The halloumi with the yams and the charred onions, was amazingly flavorful. I don't know what I expected but my expectations were exceeded for sure. There were also charred jalapeños, tomatoes. The whipped tahini w/ the mint and sumac was just luscious and complimented the flavor so well. I legit stood over my kitchen sink and ate down! So yummy, I cannot wait to dine in and try the other kebabs and menu items. The soft serve was the perfect finish. Not too sweet but creamy and indulgent. Shaksuka was oddly spiced (should it be sweet? I don't think so!) and the cold brew was watered down. Six dollars for watery cold brew (with delicious foam) and sixteen for a small egg dish that tasted off. Not great. (I've seen other reviews mentioning watered down cold brew or iced coffee - fix this!! Whatever $$ you're saving, it isn't worth lost customers. Good and inventive food. We went on a busy Saturday morning and waited in line for 15 then found a table for 2 immediately. Waited for the food maybe 5 minutes. The zaatar labneh croissant and the red shatta morning bun were tasty but needed a little more salt. The egg pita was very good and the pita was perfect. We enjoyed the dirty chai and the mish mish soda. This is a great spot for people who are usually picky eaters that want to try something new. I would give this restaurant a 4.5. We ordered our food; two sandwiches, two apricot sodas, one cookie, and one small humus for $70. We were happy to pay that much because we liked their food. We went there at 2:50 pm on Sunday. After a few minutes, one of the waiters bagged our food and handed it to us. We asked if we could eat at the restaurant, and she answered we close at 3:00. I'm giving 3 stars for the food because the shasuka was really delicious and I loved the pita that came with it. I also ordered the lemon cruffin, but I would say that was a pass. The lemon filling in the center overwhelmed the pastry. I am deducting 2 stars for the service we received and the overall vibe. When you enter it is unclear what the process is for getting a table vs. ordering. We went to the counter to order and planned to wait for a table. Guests who came in after us grabbed a table as it was opening, despite me and my friend having already ordered and paid. When our food came up they said our order was to-go. I informed the woman handing out food we did not intend to order to-go, nor did anyone ask us if we wanted to-go. We wanted to eat there as we had both driven to the restaurant and it was 20 degrees outside. The staff informed us all orders were to go if we were not at a table. I think this process needs more clarity, if we knew we would not be able to get a table and sit down we would not have stayed and would have found another spot. Also, the woman was very rude in the delivery of this, implying we should have know this despite it being our first time at the restaurant. Finally, I was frustrated that we paid a 20% gratuity for food that we ended up having to bag ourselves, get our own utensils and napkins and then leave the restaurant and find some place else to eat. The price does not work with the level of service. There's a lot of work that needs to be done here. read more
