WOULD recommend (dinner). Went here on last minute notice with no res and they were able to get us a table. Off of first impressions, the place was just nice overall, especially their 2nd level where we sat. Their service was well-mannered and punctual. Nonetheless, our drinks were above average, can't really complain. The food is good quality but if I am being honest, it is at the standard that is met by a local gourmet soul food spot. There shouldn't be a reason why basic chicken and waffles is almost $50, especially since quality isn't extraordinary. Either way the chicken was good, the mac & cheese was good, and the cornbread as well was alright. If you looking for a good restaurant with decent quality food for a lil higher price than quality, this the spot for you. I wouldn't come back for dinner since the city has better soul cuisine-type options, but I heard they had brunch, so maybe that'll be better. read more

Perfect place for a GNO! Grace, the waitress, was beyond amazing! Any questions we had, she was quick to answer & find an answer. I loved how attentive she was to everything! Great customer service! The deviled eggs were tasty. Never have I had a dill deviled egg or been satisfied with them. But these -- BEYOND my expectations. The pasta was good, it just lacked seasoning but it had the flavor and level of heat. We fell in love with the aesthetics of the popcorn shrimp! Love the interior of the restaurant!! Happy hour was great there. Definitely recommend! read more

Dining at Yardbird in Chicago and was very much a disappointment. They brought out half our food, and we had to wait 20 minutes for the rest of the meal. The delay 100% affected our meal, and the service felt disorganized. Our Orders was taken and never received anymore acknowledgment furthermore. The food was decent, 5/10 I perceived, with the experience being mediocre overall. We ordered the Chicken and waffles, creole's crab cakes, chicken skewers, and the classic yardbird deviled eggs. Believe it or not the food was just okay. Very bland and overpriced for the small portions. Yardbird definitely had a nice establishment with plenty of seating. Very well kept. I hope they improve their service in the future. Perhaps, dinner would have been better considering the GREAT pics!. read more

Very cozy and sleek vibe in here. The wait staff was nothing less than amazing. As far as the food goes, the Waldorf Chicken Salad Sandwich was underwhelming. I wasn't a fan of the flavors. The same goes for the Mac: nothing special. The chicken, of course, was the stand out. The deep fried Oreos were surprisingly delicious as well! I went for a corporate lunch, so I really can't complain about prices. However, I don't think I'd come here unless someone else was paying read more

The decor was dimly lit and nice, great for date night, girls night, or a cocktail after work. Speaking of, the cocktails were ok. The food didn't amount to the hype, imo. The chicken didn't have a lot of flavor and there was no real crunch for it to be fried chicken. Server was kind and very informative on menu and drink options. read more

When I stopped by this location, I had not idea it was part of a group of these restaurants. They had a nice bar area and I sat there to grab a beer. I wanted some chicken and found out that I could get half a chicken. I asked if I could order the right half or the left half, but the server didn't know if I could do that. So, I just settled for whichever half they wanted to give me in Nashville Hot. Nashville hot is sometimes stupid hot and sometimes just very hot. I'd say this one was just very hot, not unbearable. But, it is hot. The chicken inside the Nashville hot was good. Not the best I've ever had in my life, but it was certainly good. Perhaps more importantly, the bar service was very good and they were attentive to me when my beer was low. I would certainly go back when I'm in town again. read more

Yard Bird has a great happy hour! It's actually the only time I come since their regular menu is ridiculously over priced. The happy hour menu consists of several snacks around $4-5 and drinks from $8-10. The absolutely best is the bruschetta. It has the lightest, fluffiest spread on it. Seriously... you must try! We always get the skillet cornbread as well off the regular menu because it's so good. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere. It's dark and moody. Happy hour is only available in the bar so make sure you go early to get a seat. read more

On my day off, I try to make it a point to visit a new restaurant. Yardbird wasn't even on my hit list this particular day...as a matter of fact, I had devoted the day to running errands only. However, when I bumped into a friend at Nordstrom and he said he just finished eating at Yardbird and it was AMAZING, I said, "Fuck it, I'm going to Yardbird." I arrive at this establishment on a rainy, blustery Monday evening (right around 5pm) and it was empty. Perfect. Because of my social anxiety, I tend to like this set-up, unless I'm feeling NOT particularly socially anxious. As I get comfortable at the bar, the staff immediately made me feel so welcome...especially Steve, the bartender. He was so friendly and funny and got me even more excited about my upcoming experience. After checking out the menu with so many amazing offerings, I chose the chicken and waffles with a sweet tea. When my plate arrived, I was blown away by the presentation. The half chicken looked perfectly fried with two fluffy waffles and beautifully compressed cubes of watermelon. Looks we're not deceiving as I bit into Each. Delicious. Morsel. Heavenly. I'm not even a huge watermelon fan and was briefly annoyed by its presence (won't into detail as to why) , but this watermelon was so fuckin good with hints of Tajin and sugar to take its flavor to another stratosphere. I couldn't finish my meal but Steve did his job by offering one of their gargantuan-sized desserts portioned for a small army, and of course I refused. I lost 10 lbs this summer and I aint tryna gain them back anytime soon. Yardbird is good for groups, families, date night and in my case, solo dining. But be warned, after leaving here, make sure you have a nice, cozy bed in which to enjoy your food coma. Yardbird is a chain, totally corporate, super bougie and expensive, but totally worth it. Can't wait to go back! read more

I had the jumbo shrimp with grits, fried okra, and mashed potatoes. I was surprised by the small portion of grits served with the shrimp. The price of the meal was not commensurate with its quality. The server was attentive and the ambiance was pleasant. If I return, it will be to try their brunch menu. I was disappointed to learn that many of their dishes are cooked with pork. read more

I was in Chicago for a work trip and my friend and I went on a hunt for food. We came across Yardbird and after checking out the menu, we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is intimate without being too crowded. Our server was very friendly and helpful. He recommended the Yardbird classic deviled eggs and they did not disappoint!! I had Lewellyn's Fine Fried Chicken and it was decent but I've had better. However, Mama's Mash and gravy and the petite salad were excellent. My friend had the grilled blackened salmon filet with the petite salad and really enjoyed it. Next time, I plan on having some biscuits and bbq. read more

The food and service were both excellent. If you like large portions, this is not your place. We were thoroughly satisfied and full. The shrimp and grits, steak and eggs and all American breakfast were all delicious. The bottomless mimosas were very tasty. The service was excellent from hostess to wait staff. Leni was great! They have valet, however, they're slow, as there was only one person on duty on Saturday during the brunch rush. read more

Another place I should've BEEN visited - YARDBIRD! I thoroughly enjoyed everything I had from them. My favorites were the deviled eggs and Strawberry Peach Cobbler!!!! Everything is crafted and built so well that you almost don't want to eat it! The cobbler was super cool because you got to crack open the shell with a mini wooden mallet to get to the inside. And you know I tried their Old Fashioned- GOOD!!!! Service was fast and personable and we loved our waiter. Weekends can definitely get busy, so be prepared for a slight wait if you didn't have a reservation, however - it's worth it!!! read more

I'll be honest, I've been wanting to come here. The food looked good, but the prices just seemed way to high. And there was also never any reservations available. Until there was one. And I booked it. The rest was history. We were seated right away, and received exceptional service. Our server was very polite and professional. Carried a smile throughout and meal. My wife ordered their Fried Green Tomato BLT. It came with three fried green tomatoes, topped with House smoked pork belly, pimento cheese, smoky tomato jam, frisée, and lemon vinaigrette. This dish was very delicious. I didn't get the "BLT" at first, but quickly realized the fried green tomato, was the actual Tomato and the pork belly served as the bacon. Very clever! Will definitely make sure we order this again. Either my wife or I. I ordered their Biscuits & Gravy, which was just as the delicious. It came with fried chicken, topped with American cheese, bacon, sunny side egg, and country gravy at the bottom. The fried chicken was seasoned and fried perfectly. The biscuits were very soft and went great with the gravy. Although I still think it's a bit pricey, I would like to say the food and service I received definitely justified the price a little bit. I definitely don't mind spending to make sure I have a decent meal, and will gladly return here soon. read more

Prices here are somewhat badly overpriced (deep fried Oreos for $16???), but that would be fine if the food was better than average...it is not. Yardbird has a decent space, decent drinks, and decent service. We tried the okra, fried chicken, crab cake, fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, the Oreos, and the bourbon chocolate cake along with a few drinks. One of our party members though the fried green tomatoes were really good. I thought all of it was just fine. Yardbird is one of the reasons I never really dine out in River North any more...most of the food is average and tourist-friendly. For a local, you can do a heck of a lot better! read more

Top notch food and service! Brandon our server at the bar seating area was the best, super attentive and helpful and even took us to the best place in the restaurant for a photo together. Very chill ambiance but very tastefully decor! All of the food was amazing. The only thing I was angry about was as not having enough space to eat more. The ambience was great and perfect for a date and the restaurant is very spacious with its own wine cellar. Highly recommend for brunch lunch or dinner. The house fries were bomb, the burger was bomb, the lobster Mac and cheese was to die for the fried chicken was cooked to perfection, the cinnamon roll was amazing everything was epic minus the English muffin which was basic haha. However, don't judge a restaurant by its English muffin! I will be back! read more

Came here for a Sunday morning brunch, definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time, because the restaurant definitely filled up that morning. Between the group of us we ordered two chicken and waffles, eggs Benedict, daily chef's omelet (vegetarian), a cappuccino, and an iced latte. For the latte they only have vanilla as a flavor, so it wasn't super sweet but was still good. The portions for the Benedict and the omelet were perfect for eating there, the portion for the chicken and waffles was huge, I definitely had leftovers. The service was friendly and they kept us updated on when the food was coming out. read more

There's nothing like southern brunch. Frankly, I say it's the best kind. I've been to yardbird before in Vegas and wasn't blown away by anything. However, definitely wanted to try out brunch and the Chicago location is very well done. Impressive two floor interior. We got the... Southern revival - delicious cocktail Smoke & sigh - too intense of a smoke flavor Shrimp & grits - really well done. Impressed by the quality of the shrimp - perfectly cooked. Biscuits & Gravy - comfort goodness Sides of hasbrowns and bacon Overall good food and service. However, they seem to have some miscommunication miscues like downstairs talking to upstairs when sending you to see the upstairs hostess to get seated. Drinks and food weren't timed well and it seems like the servers don't have much control over it. Also forgetting to let the server know of the special occasion marked on the reservation. A bit of improved process and training from management should correct it. I'll round up to 4 stars for now and hope they improve. read more

We stopped in by chance on our first night in Chicago. I'm glad we did. The ambiance was very nice and appeared to be clean, restrooms included. The service was excellent. I wish I could remember his name he was very good, mentioned he was studying wine and seemed very knowledgeable . It was a little slow, I don't think that was the fault of our server. The food was very excellent. Started with the deviled eggs , very good and creamy. The wedge salad was excellent. For the main we had the short ribs. The short ribs are the best ever! I've seen this very popular place on Instagram and Tik Tok so I made a reservation for brunch. The ambiance is high class and sophisticated. There is plenty of seating upstairs and down. Head of the house and all of the servers were very nice. Really wanted to try the deviled eggs and they did not disappoint. A little bit too much dill for my taste but they were flavorful and creamy! With the eggs I tried the white peach and passion fruit mimosas. So delish and I had a serious buzz just from having two. For the main dish I enjoyed GF Fried Chicken and Waffles. The chicken came out fresh, hot, crispy, juicy and the flavor was on point. The waffles did not taste at all GF. With the companion bourbon maple syrup, the waffles are dangerous. All of the food was absolutely delicious and we will certainly be back. read more

My girl and I came for Restaurant Week and it was DIVINE! 1st course: She had the Wedge Salad and I had the Fried Green Tomato BLT. A day later and she is still raving about the salad dressing. The pork belly on my fried green tomatoes was succulent and tender. The only thing I needed was a little sprinkle of sea salt to pull everything together. 2nd course: She had the Streak Frites and I had the Blackened Salmon. The table was super quiet at this time because we were chowing down. I am not a salmon lover by any stretch of the imagination, but Yardbird just made a believer out of me. The pesto and the olive relish - chef's kiss! We also split a side of Mac and Cheese. I'm usually not a fan of super cheesy mac, but again, Yardbird made a believer out of me. 3rd course: She had the Key Lime Pie and I had the Deep-Fried Oreo. The oreo was crusted in Rice Krispies and came with oreo ice cream. Perfect end to a perfect meal. Drinks: She had the Espress Yourself Espresso Martini and I had the Morning Due. Both were delish...mine was super refreshing. In short, GO TO YARDBIRD!!!!! PS: Take your coins - it's not the most expensive dining experience you'll ever have, but it definitely isn't the cheapest. #ImNotAFoodie #ImJustAGirlWhoLovesFood read more

I had a wonderful server named Jack. This was my first time dining at Yardbird in Chicago. My wedge salad studded with bacon and blue cheese was yummy. I chose the rib eye with a side of mashed potatoes for my entree. Unfortunately the rib eye was tough and a very cheap cut of meat. The temperature was perfect so this wasn't a reflection on the chef. This was a disappointment. The mashed potatoes with onion gravy were tasty. I had the biscuit donuts with chocolate sauce for dessert. They were perfect my mom used to make them for me as a kid. I also enjoyed the perfect onion rings. I remember when this used to be the old PF Chang's location. While walking past about a month ago, I noticed the signage for Yardbird coming soon. I added it to my running lists (and Yelp bookmarks...IYKYK) of places to try. Last week, current crush and I decided to meet at the bar to enjoy a festive cocktail. Having studied the menu online in advance of my visit, I knew the cocktails here are bourbon-forward. Sign me up! In addition to classic Manhattans, Old Fashioneds, Yardbird offers a comprehensive selection of wines, beers, and spirit-free options. I thoroughly enjoyed my classic Manhattan, with Luxardo cherry. I was the advance party at the bar and was promptly offered a menu and glass of water. The bartender and I chatted about how much we both liked to eat our meals while seated at the bar, and I even walked away with a couple of helpful recommendations of places with great sitting-at-a-bar meals. The space itself is aesthetic, with its tower of bottles and open-concept kitchen, with Southern-inspired dishes issuing forth. Seeing the controlled bustle and plated dishes put me in mind of a Top Chef episode. Yardbird has already come to roost (sorry!) in other cities, with each locale featuring nods to local palates and ingredients while grounding Southern specialties - fried chicken, mac and cheese, ribs - in the forefront. The Ode to Onion soup is a unique Chicago menu item that I am looking forward to trying on a future visit. read more

Came here on New Years Eve with a group of 8. Although half of the group arrived late by 15-30 minutes, the table got sat right away which was nice. My husband and I shared the Chicken & Waffle and the deviled eggs. I was not a fan of either dish so that is why I am rating the restaurant at 3 stars. Nice restaurant close to our hotel. Chicken was hot and delicious. Brussel Sprouts we're sooo good. Short ribs were delicious. Drinks were just ok. It was the atmosphere for me. Very nice restaurant with good food. Waitlist can be like 2 hours and reservations on the weekend are tough so plan in advance. Very pricey but it is in Downtown Chicago so it's to be expected. Would definitely go back but plan so we can sit at a table hopefully upstairs so you can get the full effect of the restaurant. Plus upstairs seems a little more quiet and romantical. TL;DR: Great/Pricey drinks, Crispy tenders with great ranch, average Nashville Hot Yardbird Sandwich I walked in on a Friday in February and we were able to get a seat right away around noon. The Nashville Hot Yardbird Sandwich was tasty, but could have had more heat and the chicken could have been thicker. The Yardbird Tenders were crispy with 3 sauces on the side.
