Amazing place with lots of yummy options to choose from and great interior/vibe! Caesar salad was a great start but the presentation made it a bit difficult to eat without spilling onto the table. Drinks were also great - a watermelon based one and a spicy margarita Chicken & waffles were a solid 9.7/10!! They boast a 27 hr brine for the chicken and I could taste every hour of that brine - so juicy & flavorful. I personally wish the skin was a tad crispier but maybe I'm getting picky. Yardbird in Chicago is hands down the most beautiful restaurant I've ever eaten at. The ambiance is absolutely stunning elegant, warm, and thoughtfully designed. I had high hopes walking in... but unfortunately, that's where the praise ends. The service was a huge letdown. Our server completely disappeared after taking our entrée orders. I ordered a Cajun-style pasta that was watery, bland, and lacked any real flavor. I tried to push through it since I couldn't find our server anywhere, but after 30 minutes of waiting, I finally had to flag him down myself just to ask for something else. At that point, I was just hungry and frustrated, so I swapped for the salmon and mashed potatoes, hoping for something better. It's incredibly disappointing when a restaurant gets the look and feel so right but drops the ball on food and service. Yardbird is a 10/10 for atmosphere, but when it comes to actually dining? During Restaurant Week I like to try new restaurants for this is the sole reason for it right? Was lurking online and the participating restaurants near me by my place of work and this spot came up, the menu looked good, the place looked beautiful, my kinda spot so stopped in for lunch. It's right in the heart of River North, across the street from Nordstrom, off Grand and Wabash. When I walked in I was wowed, the restaurant is Beautiful!! So elegant and classy with a comfortable vibe, not stuffy. Definitely a special occasion, date spot or if you want to chill at a beautiful bar, this is also your place. I was seated immediately by the hostess and since I already had stalked the menu I knew what I wanted. For my first course I ordered the Deviled Egg and Fried Green Tomato BLT Duo and it was really good! It comes with a slice of pork belly on top and since I don't eat pork my waitress offered me avocado instead, which I appreciated the consideration because I was just going to toss the pork slice and call it a day. Second course I ordered the shrimp n grits and this dish was DELISH! It's not the full size entree off the regular menu, but the lunch proportion is still generous. It comes with 5 nice size jumbo shrimp in a flavorful rue with roasted tomatoes and red onion. I love that they use whole grain grits, which are thicker and healthier than your traditional Quaker Oats grits. This dish was definitely for me the star of the show. Third course which was dessert, they give you a deep fried Oreo and a mini key lime pie and if anybody know me they know Rachel L-O-V-E key lime pie and it did not disappoint at all and was just enough, both were minis. I washed everything down with a passionate about tequila and for $17 it was well worth it. It definitely has buzz factor. Two of these made by that bartender would have you calling an Uber. A friend and I stopped into Yardbird for celebratory drinks on a Wednesday around 4:00 pm. Since we arrived before the dinner rush, the place was pretty empty, so we were seated promptly. Yardbird has a nice happy hour menu with pretty good deals. The drinks were delicious and were aesthetically pleasing too. I also ordered the chicken tenders which come with fries and homemade ranch. The food was out of this world. I'll be dreaming of that ranch for a while! Service was just okay. Our server was polite, but a little cold and not very attentive. It wasn't a huge deal, but when 4 chicken tenders and a small side of fries costs me almost $25, I expect a slightly more elevated service experience. They no longer serve the chicken in the baskets you may have seen others post AND they only give 4 pieces of chicken AND they've raised the prices to $42. That's insane to charge $42 for 4 pieces of chicken and one waffle divided into fours. I just think they should be ashamed of that. Off of first impressions, the place was just nice overall, especially their 2nd level where we sat. Their service was well-mannered and punctual. Nonetheless, our drinks were above average, can't really complain. The food is good quality but if I am being honest, it is at the standard that is met by a local gourmet soul food spot. There shouldn't be a reason why basic chicken and waffles is almost $50, especially since quality isn't extraordinary. The delay 100% affected our meal, and the service felt disorganized. Our Orders was taken and never received anymore acknowledgment furthermore. The food was decent, 5/10 I perceived, with the experience being mediocre overall. We ordered the Chicken and waffles, creole's crab cakes, chicken skewers, and the classic yardbird deviled eggs. Francisco was our server, and he is definitely all knowing when it comes to the menu. Wenordered the creme Brule waffles and the lemonade meringue pancakes, both with a side of hashbrowns and bacon. So the waffles- sinfully delicious. The crispy candied typing and the soft pillows waffle is a match made in heaven. The flavor is unlike any waffle I have ever eaten before. The pancakes taste just like a lemon meringue pie without being overly sweet. You get four pancakes and the portion size is more than you need. The hashbrowns have a shape.plus flavor. Two savory crispy rectangles of soft potatoes that make your mouth happy. Oh my goodness. So good. Let me not forget the cocktails. We tried several and they were all amazing! When I stopped by this location, I had not idea it was part of a group of these restaurants. They had a nice bar area and I sat there to grab a beer. I wanted some chicken and found out that I could get half a chicken. I asked if I could order the right half or the left half, but the server didn't know if I could do that. So, I just settled for whichever half they wanted to give me in Nashville Hot. Nashville hot is sometimes stupid hot and sometimes just very hot. I'd say this one was just very hot, not unbearable. But, it is hot. The chicken inside the Nashville hot was good. Not the best I've ever had in my life, but it was certainly good. Both the bartenders ( I believe the guy is called Brian) were super attentive and sweet. The $4-$6 happy hour deals are so yummy! I especially loved the chicken skewers that was sweet savory and juicy! I recently enjoyed a delicious dinner with a friend at Yardbird. Despite one rather loud table of diners, the atmosphere was warm and enjoyable. Service was attentive but not intrusive. We both had the fried chicken, which was really wonderful. It came with sides of mashed potatoes and a salad, neither of which were mentioned on the menu. It would be helpful to list what is included with the meal since otherwise people may order additional sides and end up have more than it is possible to eat. The portions are huge. This may be good for some diners, but not for me. It would be great if at least a few of the offerings were for smaller amounts. Also, maybe turn down the volume of the background music just a little. But overall this was an enjoyable evening and I will definitely return. read more

Yard Bird has a great happy hour! It's actually the only time I come since their regular menu is ridiculously over priced. The happy hour menu consists of several snacks around $4-5 and drinks from $8-10. The absolutely best is the bruschetta. It has the lightest, fluffiest spread on it. Seriously... you must try! We always get the skillet cornbread as well off the regular menu because it's so good. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere. It's dark and moody. We tried the okra, fried chicken, crab cake, fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, the Oreos, and the bourbon chocolate cake along with a few drinks. One of our party members though the fried green tomatoes were really good. I thought all of it was just fine. I've been wanting to come here since I visited the location in Las Vegas and saw that this location opened. I finally ended up coming for happy hour and was surprised to see such great deals. I ended up getting a beer and the popcorn and it felt like I got a great value. The interior is beautiful and I really liked the view from the second floor. I chose the rib eye with a side of mashed potatoes for my entree. Unfortunately the rib eye was tough and a very cheap cut of meat. The temperature was perfect so this wasn't a reflection on the chef. This was a disappointment. The mashed potatoes with onion gravy were tasty. Another place I should've BEEN visited - YARDBIRD! I thoroughly enjoyed everything I had from them. My favorites were the deviled eggs and Strawberry Peach Cobbler!!!! Everything is crafted and built so well that you almost don't want to eat it! The cobbler was super cool because you got to crack open the shell with a mini wooden mallet to get to the inside.
