Chinese is my go-to comfort cuisine as I love the pastas, meats, dim sum, rice all with interesting and unique combinations. The trouble with being a bad food junkie is I've been hooked on certain aspects and my palate isn't happy until that craving has been satisfied. Just like America where you have regional delicacies like Southern shrimp and grits, Pennsylvania scrapple and northeastern lobster rolls for instance, China also has food that is very regionalized. Therein lies some of my issues locating my favorite dishes but when I do it can be a very rewarding experience. For the record they don't have Beef Chow Fun which is Cantonese however I didn't mind this time. Located off of Ladson Rd in a relatively easy place to get in and out of, Yang's is a typical Asian restaurant with little soul inside. To clarify the establishment looks to be confused if it wants visitors to have the option to sit down and eat vs pickup only. There are a few tables with boxes of condiments next to the register; not even bothered to be put in something more "official" and literally there's no artwork, statues or culture. Therefore, I don't believe sitting down to eat would be that enjoyable however if one is just picking up an order, I suppose it's fine. For me I rather enjoy aesthetics as it brings in my enjoyment even before I eat; phycology does play a part. As for the appetizers I got spring rolls they were generic as they tasted just like every other one, I've had in my life and sometimes familiarity is a great thing. That said I wasn't exactly jumping up and down, rather they were ok. The pork ribs were decent in that they weren't chewy but they're definitely "American-ized" in that they had no real Chinese flavor to them. They're basically cooked ribs tossed in some BBQ. Perhaps it's me as every summer I have Dim Sum (when I lived in Austin) and I love Mala Ribs (small, ribs fried then drizzled with authentic BBQ sauce), these aren't them. But that said, they're decent. The chicken Mei Fun is a simple dish yet very affective. Most Chinese restaurants have opted for the "Singapore rice noodle" as their mainstay by adding curry. I like that too but I prefer the simpler option. But let me tell you it was very good! Plenty of green onion, bok-choy, onion & eggs along with thin rice noodles and plenty of meat. The flavor is on point with what I'm accustom to having however I do like carrots in mine. Overall, not bad. The final dish was the shrimp lo-mein. I have an issue here and it's that pasta shapes create flavor. Yes, the ingredients are the same; wheat flour, water, salt, oil, and sometimes eggs for the basics, but way the noodle hits the pallet is different. Ever noticed macaroni tastes different than spaghetti? Anyways traditional Chinese lo-mein has round noodles not linguini shaped pasta. I get that having less options means easier for ordering but it's breaking tradition and something I hate. The flavors were on point as were was the quantity of food and amount of protein but it didn't do it for me. Overall Yangs is a decent fast service Chinese restaurant but I was honestly expecting an elevated experience over the "hole in the wall" and "one on every corner" one might get anywhere else and that's exactly what I got, while elevated a smidge. I think most people would rather enjoy the experience however there wasn't anything that stuck with me, ensuring I will add it into my rotation.

Bypassing ritzier options due to extraneous factors, I ended up at this Chinese takeout. This was the sort of place that did have an interior where you could dine in, but where I suspect most customers will be taking out as it is a rather spartan area. This place is notable for having a robust tofu and vegetable selection, which is why I gave them the chance. My food was ready in a timely fashion. They have an app, and downloading it gave me a small discount on what was a good deal. My tofu with black bean sauce was tasty, and had a nice mix of vegetables (like a lot of Chinese places, this one has a fair amount of broccoli, but I managed to find a dish that avoided it). My spring rolls were straightforward and came without sauce. I had ordered what was billed as a house mustard sauce, and seeing some regular packets of mustard piled up in the restaurant, I was ready to be insulted by what I received, but I did indeed get a little cup of what I suspect was indeed a house made sauce, simply because I doubt any mass market company would make something that powerful. I mean, mustard is a different chemical than chili peppers, but this was a truly hot mustard sauce that I only used half of because it was so strong. Which is a good thing. No one would accuse this place of being fancy, but it surprising how hard it is to find good vegetarian-friendly Chinese takeout, particularly in the South.

Steamed dumplings to die for. Pastry-heavy Rangoon, saved by a good sauce. Perfect cheesesteak lumpia.

Got delivery tonight for the first time, and I am THRILLED! BEST steamed dumplings anywhere, and I am talking better than Lam's Garden. The sauce is so rich and flavorful, the filling meaty and satisfying, the pasta so delicately thin. Lumpia as well, the same Philly cheesesteak kind as Lam's. Just as good. Crab Rangoon are the quad fold kind rather than triangle, which creates a lot of plain fried pastry. Their sauce for the Rangoon is fantastic, with a zesty citrus tang that is fresh and bright, not the usual pink glop other places serve you. Orange chicken was nice pieces, well-fried, not cooked to death. Plenty of orange zest, and some big broccoli. Fluffy but perfectly sticky white rice. Beef lo mein was what you would expect. Lemonade was sweet and tart and made a great Arnold Palmer with my tea. Little fried doughnut balls were a fun treat to wrap the meal but need to be eaten very quickly. Overall, an excellent choice for Chinese food delivery, and my next order will be 3 orders steamed dumplings all for me.

Orange Chicken, House Special Lo Mein, Fried Dumpling

I ordered takeout here at around 8 PM. I ordered orange chicken, one order fried dumplings, and I received a side of edamame for free. The food was made in a timely manner and i receive it in about 10minutes of ordering. The orange chicken was crispy, heavily coated in breading, but very similar to other Chinese takeout fried chicken dishes. The orange sauce had orange peels, and was a bit too sweet for my taste. I usually get sesame chicken but this orange chicken was not bad, just a little too sweet. The portion was generous, for about 2-3 people. Instead of rice i chose the house special lo mein. It was similar to standard lo mein, but had pork, chicken, shrimp, beef, and veggies. It was a portion size for 1-2 people. The fried dumplings came in eight pieces, they appear to be frozen ones but the flavors were great. They were very crisp , and the filling was not dry. The edamame was stuffed in a medium sized tray which was a relatively large portion. No complaints. I would visit here again to try the sesame or kung pao chicken.

    Egg Roll

Re-visited Yang's since it's been a while. Some things may have changed though, I think. Although the Shrimp Mei Fun was pretty good, the egg rolls weren't great. I attached 2 pictures of the noodles because all the tasty bits were at the bottom. I counted around 20 small shrimp in the bowl, which I think was descent for Mei Fun since everything in this dish is chopped small anyways. The flavor was solid, no complaints. I hate to say this, but the egg rolls were not good and I think Yang's may have changed vendors or started using different wrappers. I'm not exactly sure, but I do not like them anymore. The outside was really thick, like wonton wrappers... maybe? I buy my Chinese food, so I don't usually cook it and can't pinpoint what changed. They may have been previously fried and re-warmed too. I used to buy the egg rolls by the half dozen from Yang's, so that gives you reference. They used to be hot, stuffed with quite a bit of filling, with crispy, hot outside. I used to try to eat them on the way home and struggle because they were so hot, yet too good to resist. I had no issue putting it back in the bag this time. Sadly, they probably won't be a repurchase for me. 4 stars for the Mei Fun and 1 star for the egg rolls... 3 stars, weighted heavier for the main course.

This is the only place I will buy Chinese food from. They make my order exactly as I ask, remember me at each visit. The restaurant is extremely clean and employees are well versed in English. Fast service too !! My Service Dog and I are always welcome.

Poor quality control. I found multiple hair in both meals I ordered. Disappointing, as Yang's was my favorite Chinese place in the area.

We ordered two large teas, egg drop soup, two spring rolls, crab Rangoon, orange chicken, and beef with broccoli. The teas were ginormous but only had one tea bag in them. They were also a few dollars each. I brought them home and added two more tea bags of my own to make it have some flavor. Egg drop soup was delicious! Reminded me of the one I would have growing up at my local Chinese restaurant. It was great. The wonton strips that came with it were very stale and a bit of a put off. Crab Rangoon was good, not exactly fried to golden perfection but nothing wrong taste wise. They were on the smaller side. Spring roll was decently. More of a cabbage flavor to it than I am used to. Orange chicken looked good and had peppers in it which I was stoked about, as well as actual orange peel. However, the dish itself did not taste like orange at all. Only if you ate a direct piece of orange peel did it have any hint of orange The beef and broccoli was pretty bland and it did not look fatty, but it felt and tasted fatty in the mouth. The rice with each dish was okay. A little greasy looking for white rice. Overall, I would come back for the egg drop soup but I wouldn't come back to explore the menu. We ordered pretty basic things and found them to be less than average. I would try somewhere else next time.
