Hibachi

So this is like Ocala's version of Benihanas. We didn't have to wait, but a few minutes to be seated and for them to take orders. It's your average setup, of the hibachi chef in front of a semi circle. I started with the spring rolls, which was yummy, but over priced. You only get two of them for $6. It was my birthday so I ended up getting my meal for free. I got the chicken and shrimp. They give really good portions for the price! The food was decent, but it felt like something was missing. It was the garlic butter flavor! They need some of that to really make it pop. Luckily, I had some at home and my leftovers were bomb!!! I would definitely return in the future!

Called in the order since they don't have online ordering. on Sunday wife called in. hold for 5 mins. Nothing. She hung up tried to call back for 10 more mins. I drove 30 mins across town got there at the time they said. 3pm. I had to wait another10 mins for they to finish, on Sunday 2 tables going and nobody else. Not busy at all. So I get the to bags and ask the bartender who brought me my late food is the extra yum yum sauce is in there he said yes. I felt down into the bag and felt the small container thinking it was the yum sauce. Got home and of course it was not. It was only 2$ but I assumed the people did their job. I should have checked I did not trust my gut. Food was ok. Wife said the yum sauce was off. So I know better next time. Food was good but not great as usual.

Kind of an average hibachi restaurant. My friends and I dined at Yamato last night and had fun but experienced some disappointment. They did not have miso soup, a disappointment; and the complementary salad had a tart, almost sour dressing on it. I prefer a sweeter ginger flavor. The edamame was fresh and the hibachi chef had great knife skills. Our drinks were average and we were super disappointed to find out that they did not do sake. We were celebrating and the sake at hibachi is always so fun! Not at Yamoto. The fried rice was our favorite part, but the noodles lacked in flavor. Overall, a fine night but I will choose a different hibachi spot next time.

Paid Yamato a visit with my wife, kids and parents for my birthday. Firstly, I am used to frequenting a Benihana's in Miramar, FL. Yamato is similar in terms of menu and hibachi eating style. The most noticeable difference is the chef that makes the meal. That is, in the showmanship or lack there of. Our chef felt like he was just going through the motions, checking off boxes. "Onion volcano, check." Some interaction was nice but definitely not an entertaining experience. Another difference was in the ingredients, they use butter in the rice, but not garlic butter makes all the difference. The ambiance was to be expected. On the plus side if it is your birthday, your entree is free.(They do ask for proof) All things considered Ty e food was good and we enjoyed our meal and company. The over all experience did not evoke any emotions. 4 stars because the food was good but the entertainment needs improvement. Be good or be good at it! TTFN.

Tasty soup & awesome salad.

My granddaughter Keri & her husband Jerry were visiting from Wisconsin. While here, they treated us to dinner at Yamato's. Brandon, the bartender, made my old fashion cocktail perfectly. Cortney, our server, was prompt and attentive. Jose, the chef, was fascinating to watch. Our food was so good, plentiful and perfectly prepared.

Went back to Yamatos and had sushi this time!! Omg!! Their sushi is sooooooooo good! I definitely need to go back there for some! Our server was extremely amazing and explained the sushi menu and choices to us. It was busy in this restaurant as always but it's always a good experience for myself and the family when we stop by.

Cooks and food not as good as it use to be. Food cost too much for the portions you get and cooks are not entertaining anymore.

Went here for a birthday, amazing food! Most impressive of all however, was how friendly our waitress and chef were.

Edo Sushi & Japanese Steakhouse

Edo Sushi & Japanese Steakhouse -- A Missed Opportunity for Authenticity…read more Edo Sushi & Japanese Steakhouse lands at 2 out of 5 stars, and honestly, that feels generous only because the service itself was perfectly fine. The team was polite and efficient, but the overall experience leans far closer to Japanese fast food than the immersive Asian dining atmosphere the name suggests. The biggest disappointment came from the stir‑fried noodles. The flavor told the whole story: it tasted like a massive batch had been pre‑cooked earlier in the day, with staff simply tossing in more noodles as orders came in. The result was bland, under‑seasoned, and lacking the freshness you expect from a hibachi‑style dish. Even worse, the protein portion was minimal -- in my case, the chicken felt more like an afterthought than a feature of the meal. For a restaurant positioned as a Japanese steakhouse, the experience should feel intentional, flavorful, and crafted to order. Instead, it felt rushed, generic, and disconnected from the quality you'd expect at this price point. There's potential here, but until the kitchen elevates its approach and embraces true made‑to‑order cooking, Edo Sushi & Japanese Steakhouse will continue to feel like a fast‑food interpretation of what should be a richer, more authentic dining experience.

I had Thai on one visit and sushi on the other. The Thai was decent. It didn't have a lot of spice for medium which I ordered to be on the safe side. Probably should have went with medium plus or hot. The sushi was very good. I don't know how much competition they have in Ocala but I could definitely see this being a regular spot if I lived in Ocala. Service was fine, I've got no complaints there. The one very memorable negative thing I noticed on both visits was they were absolutely blasting the AC on both visits when it wasn't anywhere near scorching outside. The first time I had on short sleeves and was near the edge of my comfort level- I nearly went back out to my rental to get a hoodie. The second time was later in the evening and it had cooled off a lot outside but the air conditioning was still working like the restaurant was on the planet Venus. Like the knob was on 11 like the amplifiers on Spinal Tap. Fortunately I was dressed appropriately this time but I did hear a large table of older ladies complain about it multiple times before bringing it to the attention of the server. Resolvable temperature concerns aside, I'd recommend the sushi here and give the Thai a second chance as well.

It's in a really nondescript location, tucked away in an old gas station store. The store was a combination of hot food and some pantry staples like gochugaru and ramen. I ordered the Hot Bob, which was the spicy pork shoulder over rice. It was so delicious. We shared a kimchi pancake - it was a really sizable pancake but I wish it had a bit more flavor. This is located inside a gas station, so when you enter it looks like a regular convenience/gas station, but then you see the menu with all the dishes they offer. They had so many delicious items on the menu, but I only went with the Japchae. I didn't wait long, it took about 15 minutes and while I was there, I got to look around and noticed all the Korean products around the store. Once I got my food, I sat at the tables they have in a corner and got quite a bit of food. It's a good serving. After trying the Japchae, I understand now why this spot is so highly rated. The Japchae was well seasoned came with a lot of delicious veggies and a side of rice. If this spot was close by I would eat there on a weekly basis! Really great spot to check out when in Ocala.
