This place blew my expectations off the ground! First off, they're booked out 3 months in advance but we got super lucky because I put my name on the waitlist and there was a cancellation. It's a very hole-in-the-wall place camouflaged by a jiu-jitsu and dance academy. They have a lot across the street and they'll have you scan a code at the restaurant (1st hour free) Ran by a super sweet charismatic chef and his two support staff, they get super busy! So for those trying to make a reservation, it's best to call couple hours before they open. They have bar seating (12?) with couple tables and it's BYOB! Everything was so delicious and flavorful but the true star of the show was the Mostunabe which is basically beef/pork offal aka intestines. Don't knock it 'til you try it because it was literally one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life! It felt so clean and warming after eating all the skewers. I'm so glad they allow for to-go containers because there was no way we could finish all of it. We went in thinking we would still be hungry after our meal but by the second to the last skewer, we were ready to tap out. I absolutely would love to come back again and if I could, book out the whole restaurant so that all my friends could enjoy it with me :)

Lets just start off by saying I had no idea what our son made reservations 5 months in advance for :)) I didnt read any reviews or look at the pictures on yelp literally till we were standing in line to get in. Fast forward, this place is located in Kaimuki, they do have parking across the street which gets filled fast bc its a shared public parking with several businesses in the surrounding buildings. Doors opened at 6pm and we are greeted by the waitress, she immediately shows us a QR code for parking, than seats us. When I first walked in I was like "okay" its nothing fancy but I like intimate seatings so I was all for it.. Chef greeted everyone as they walked in and he is so bubbly. My son had brought him some Kirin and sake as I noticed others brought the chef wine, sake, and beer:)) After about 15-20 mins of being seated our first dish arrived, after that point, dishes were just coming out.. I cant tell you the name of some of these things bc one waitress would tell us what it was and they other one barely talked, LOL... I didnt mind bc I was there for the experience:) Anyways, everything was delicious. Im sorry I dont know the name of everything we ate, lol... At the end, we were served this soup, which I later found out it was filled with chicken intestines, let me tell you, I devoured that soup and noodles. It was sooo good. It wasnt till I was reading some reviews when I got home that I found out what it was, hahaha.. None the less, it was sooo delicious. We WILL be back again...

My wife, friends, and I have been to Yakitori Ando a few times now, and it never disappoints. The food is consistently incredible, the service is excellent, and the lively atmosphere always makes for a fun night out. Every skewer coming off the grill is packed with flavor, and the motsunabe is always a highlight. Being BYOB with a great group of friends only adds to the experience. There's a reason reservations are so hard to get - authentic, memorable, and absolutely worth it every time.

Yakitori Ando is one of those if you know, you know spots -- the kind you almost don't want to talk about... but absolutely have to. Small, unassuming, and tucked away in a crowded little hole-in-the-wall off Waialae Avenue in Kaimukī, this place is all about doing yakitori right. A couple of tables, a bar if you're lucky, zero frills -- and that's exactly the charm. This is mostly a chicken-focused Japanese spot, and they don't miss. Chicken heart skewers, juicy chicken thigh skewers grilled perfectly, plus a few non-chicken standouts like shrimp skewers, wagyu skewers, and a surprisingly addictive mochi wrapped in bacon. Every skewer comes out simple, intentional, and packed with flavor. But the real showstopper for me? The motsu hot pot at the end. Chicken intestines simmered in the most comforting, deeply flavorful broth with vegetables and yakisoba noodles -- rich, soulful, and the kind of dish you think about long after you leave. Absolute perfection. A few pro tips that make this place even better:    *   There's a dedicated parking lot across the street (clearly labeled for the restaurant -- don't skip this detail).    *   Bathrooms are in a neighboring building, and you're welcome to use them.    *   BYOB, which alone makes this spot a must. Chef also loves a good red wine, in case you wanted to share and make him happy! Yakitori Ando isn't flashy, trendy, or trying to be anything it's not -- it's just exceptional food, done with heart, in one of Honolulu's best hidden gem neighborhoods. Read the other reviews -- they don't lie. This place is special

Yakitori Ando is the definition of just a top tier casual dining experience. All of the food is fantastic and can really expand your palate! Even if you feel hesitant it's worth trying everything because you can be sure that you'll remember basically everything purely because of how tasty it is. Ambiance is laid back and relaxing, but for the best experience sit on the bar to watch him prepare everything. Ando-San truly is a master at what he does and it shows through the quality of this restaurant. All in all, worth the visit and worth rebooking in advance again!

My favorite Yakitori omakase on the island. Food is simple and delicious. It is BYOB establishment and it's always a treat to share a drink with the chef and his team. To make a reservation - no walk ins. Best advice I can give is to call 10 minutes before they open to get connected with someone

2/28/26 So lucky there was a cancellation I had called at 5pm n got sat for 6pm opening! Come hungry because there's so many morsels; edemame, pickled vegetables, bacon wrapped quail eggs, head-on shrimp, chicken hearts, thighs, wings, tender beef... Lastly, a Motsu (fatty melty intestines) hot pot loaded with tofu, wonbok, gobo, mushrooms... So hearty n flavorful $85 Omakase (only) Made future reservations right away... They're booked 2 months out Bring extra libations for Chef n crew They are so hard working n friendly, too!

We finally got a reservation here (I booked 6months ago) and already put in our next reservation after we finished our meal! All the yakitori are great and the star of the show is the nabe at the end.. it's just so good and tasty! It's BYOB and they only have 1 seating so usually dinner starts around 6pm but it is well worth it!

Yakitori Ando is an absolute gem. Every dish felt intentional and deeply flavorful, but the standouts for me were the chicken heart--perfectly grilled, tender, and rich without being overpowering--and the cow intestine nabe, which was unbelievably good. The broth was savory and layered, comforting yet bold, and clearly made with care. If you're into yakitori done right and aren't afraid to explore beyond the usual cuts, this place delivers in a big way. Easily a spot I'll be coming back to.

Second time here and it was AMAZING! Omakase style with some surprises of chicken heart but most were normal yakitori with chicken thighs , mochi wrapped with bacon...texture and taste was just presented with plate perfection! On top of that chicken wings were tasty. A must try and a special treat. We ended with the special mostunabe soup! That is the best soup ever, tasty & always taken home for the next lunch meal! Made reservations to go back but in several months! Love how chef Ando has some nostalgic photos of his previous life and some artsy and fun inspirational paintings with him in it! Cool, hip joint with counter seating to interact with him or have a party with minimal and quaint seating .

Fresh shrimp.yum!

Ambiance: Hole in the wall, neighborhood Izakaya. BYOB plus for a great time. Parking: Across the street at BOH. First hour paid by Ando-San. Food: Great tasting, no frills Yakitori and more Service: Outstanding, efficient and friendly service.

Amy X.

Set menu, my favorite is bacon warp mochi. So yummy also BYOB, great great place to hang out with friends. Service is good too chef and staffs are very friendly.

A great way to finish a meal of charcoal-grilled chicken and vegetables: motsunabe.
R K.

The omakase is great. Ando-san selects high quality ingredients that vary day-to-day, lightly seasons them and grills them to lightly charred (not burned) perfection. Most people don't like or even know how uniquely delicious chicken skin, heart, tail area, cartilage and cock's comb are, so those delicacies unfortunately are not offered. But if Ando-san had them on a secret menu, he'd make more $ and use more interesting parts of a chicken. It is also incredibly difficult to get a reservation here, which ensures quality control. But, I still wish I could take more family and friends there.

What is chef name?

Chef Takashi Ando

Does this restaurant allow BYOB?

Yes it's BYOB. And they don't charge.

I kept calling from morning to evening, nobody answered the phone. Is there any other way to make reservation?…

They only answer between the hours of 4:30 through 6:00 and possibly after 8:00.

Nobody answered the phone. I have called several time. Is there any specific time when I should call?

Call during 4:30-6:00pm and maybe after 8:00 until 10:00pm. Off days are Wednesday so they do not answer. They do not answer the phone during business hours since there are only 2 servers running the whole place and it does get busy.

How long does the dinner usually take? If we start at 6pm, can we expect to finish around 7:45?

Only two of you? Sure! Bigger group? Maybe not.

Does anyone know what time they start answering phones? I have been calling all morning and afternoon and cannot get in touch with anyone. I also sent a DM through Instagram and have gotten no reply.

Try calling around 5pm as soon as they open

Can I bring kids? And do I need a reservation?

No kids yes reservations

How far in advance can I make a reservation?

You can make reservations pretty far out. Getting an immediate reservation is the difficult part!

Could anyone tell me how much per person it costs?

It depends on how much you eat. The chef will keep it coming until you tell him to stop. I would plan on about $30-35 per person.

Is this restaurant BYOB?

Yes, it is!

I wish we ordered more tempura because it was so perfectly cooked. We got the sweet potato and squid tempura, with the sweet potato being my pick for must-have when coming here. The staff look super happy and were very accommodating! We saw 4 different people bring plates, gave us recommendations on the salt/tempura sauce combos for the tempura. Will definitely be returning soon!

My parents and friend enjoyed almost everything. I think the three items I enjoyed the most were the yuzu pickled vegetables, the yuzu sorbet and the chicken karaage. Those stood out the most for me. For the whole experience it was rather enjoyable still how I remembered it used to be. There is ample parking in the back if you come early or street parking. It was a little difficult with someone with a walker but slowly we moved in and out so just need patience. Pricing was what I was are used to going out to eat sushi nowadays. I think they were supposed to give us a special dessert for I asked ahead of time and it wasn't brought. I didn't want to bother asking but this was a special day for them which I thought should possibly not be overlooked when people make reservations. Luckily I made a cake which they enjoyed at home. Inside is smallish with the usual izakaya bar style set up and decor with the dark wood and dark tones, but maybe more toned down than a true izakaya. Comfortable, plain, and simple. Menu is pretty confusing and not the clearest, but it's mainly their fresh fish and seafood that are the main attractions. You just gotta figure out what they are cause it's only listed in Japanese and Romanized Japanese. They do have some interesting choices though after a thorough search. Started with Spicy Tuna Roll was very good. Nicely seasoned and prepared sushi rice, neatly rolled with fresh chunks of tuna. $11.50. Spicy Konnyaku was decent. A little light on the seasoning, but not too bad. $4.50. The Chicken Cartilage Karaage was a surprise! Crispy, crunchy, and nicely seasoned. So good. We ordered it twice! $8.50. OH! Toro (Premium Fatty Tuna), 4 pieces sashimi, $42.00. Fresh, melt in your mouth, and nicely presented. Aburi OH! Toro nigiri had a nice char/smoky flavor - equally as good as the sashimi. $13.50. The A5 Mizayaki Beef Sushi with Foie Gras nigiri was amazing! Fresh, melt in your mouth A5 with rich, unctuous Foie gras that was nicely charred and seasoned. $14.00. Grilled Beef Tongue was excellent. Thick cut, tender, nicely seasoned and prepared. Onions garnish went very well adding a nice punch. $14.50. The Uni Shiso Cucumber wrapped with Hirame was a unique combination. Fresh, firm hirame; rich, oceanic uni; bright, herbaceous Shiso; crunchy cucumber. $35.00 - 4 pieces. The Uni Truffle Butter Egg Yolk Rice was okay. It wasn't as rich or as decadent as I'd imagined, especially with uni, egg yolk, and butter noted. A bit too much rice compared to the amount of uni to be able to fully enjoy the richness. Perhaps less rice? Which might lead to a lower price than the $29.00? Corn Karaage was okay. Flavor was one note. It was just corn with miso paste and coated with starch and deep fried to temp. Some seasoning would go a long way. $6.50 for 5 short pieces. Hamachi Carpaccio was good. Fresh fish, flavorful soy-vinegar sauce with complementing toppings (olive oil, sea grapes, grape tomato, onion slices, and Tobikko). $21.00. New Zealand King Salmon Nigiri was very good! Melt in your mouth with a smooth and buttery texture. The Deep Fried Octopus was okay. Slightly toothsome, nicely battered and fried, but very light on the seasoning. Needed the salt to balance the tart ponzu. Overall, a solid meal with fresh, quality ingredients, and everything was nicely prepared and beautifully presented. Decent sake selection, but only two beer choices. The menu had many fish selections, but if you don't know what they are in romanized Japanese, you'll need to search it, which took a bit of time for the decision-maker. Staff was very friendly and attentive in the beginning, but it got busy and it became less. It's a bit pricey, which was expected and known. Uosan feels more of a sashimi restaurant than an izakaya, but that won't stop me from coming back to try more sashimi!

My fiance won a gift card actually 2 of them (from his coworker whom could not get a reservation secured), we knew we had to make the trip over before they officially close. We had multiple dishes, but staff made Kauai prawns and tomato miso black cod dishes on the house since they ran out the Hokkaido scallops. We ordered the short ribs, lobster appetizer, hamachi crudo and lastly sashimi moriawase to finish food palate. Lukki lemon dessert was great way to end to night. Ordered the Milk tea bouquet cocktail while my better half had water ( either way the food coma knock him out cold the rest of the night lol). To be honest, it was difficult to determine which dish was the best because the staff kept quality there despite it being busy every night since they announce the closure. Sashimi moriawase, fish was so fresh, reminded me of my time spent in Hokkaido and Sapporo. Short ribs was soft and rich in flavor. Both me and my fiance liked the lukki lemon dessert, like lemon meringue pie but broken down version. If you have a chance to dine here before closing and got a reservation, definitely will have a lovely dining experience and your stomach will be full by end of the night.

The staff were friendly and very helpful with giving us recommendations. We ordered 3 appetizers and 2 entrees, and honestly it was too much food for us. We had leftovers for breakfast the next day! - For appetizers we got: Ulu Tots, Japanese Eggplant, and Corn Beignets. The Corn Beignets was the best. - For entree we got: Tomato Miso Black Cod and the Short Rib. Both were delicious and worth a try. Sad to see that this restaurant appears to be closing.

This restaurant will always hold a special place in our hearts…read more We first visited in 2025 during a trip to Oahu that ended with our engagement. We were staying at the Romer House and didn't have dinner plans, so we wandered into 855-Aloha. While we were looking over the menu, Matteo (the General Manager at the time) came over, welcomed us, and encouraged us to stay despite the wait. He then walked behind the bar, poured us two complimentary glasses of champagne, and invited us to relax while we waited for our table. That simple gesture set the tone for an incredible evening and was our first glimpse of the genuine hospitality this restaurant is known for. After that trip, we started planning our wedding and decided there was no better place than Oahu for a destination wedding. When it came time to plan our rehearsal dinner, 855-Aloha was one of the first places we reached out to. A few months later, while visiting Waikiki with my parents, we stopped in to show them the restaurant where we celebrated our engagement. Tanden, the Events Manager at the time, greeted us and, to our surprise, remembered me by name. He gave my parents a tour of the space and insisted we stay for a drink. Moments like that made us feel like more than just another reservation--they made us feel genuinely valued. Booking our rehearsal dinner here was an easy decision. Throughout the planning process, there was quite a bit of turnover within the events team. Every coordinator we worked with was warm, accommodating, and wonderful, with one exception. When we explored the possibility of extending our evening with a welcome party at Lei Stand after dinner, we found the experience with Samantha Molzer frustrating. The conversations felt unusually rigid, and instead of collaborating on options, we often felt reminded of policies and qualifications. Ultimately, we decided to host our welcome party across the street at Green Lady Cocktail Room, where the process felt more flexible and better suited to what we were looking for. (Ultimately the unreasonably firm quote she had given us did not make any sense. After our rehearsal dinner we still wandered over to the lei stand for a drink before heading over to our welcome party at another location and there were all of 4 guests in the entire bar. They probably would have profited greatly from hosting us!) Thankfully, Lisa stepped in to coordinate our event, and she and the entire team absolutely knocked it out of the park. Our rehearsal dinner was everything we had hoped for and more. The service was attentive, the food was fantastic, and every detail was thoughtfully executed. What stood out most, though, was the team's kindness. I had gotten sick a few days into our trip and still wasn't feeling well enough to eat much on the night of our rehearsal. I asked one of the servers if there happened to be any soup on the menu. They apologized that there wasn't, but then told me they had everything needed to make fresh miso soup from scratch if I didn't mind waiting a few minutes. Within minutes, they brought me a warm bowl of homemade miso soup. It was such a small gesture, but one I'll never forget. That level of care and hospitality is exactly what makes people return to a restaurant time and time again. Thank you to Lisa and the entire team for helping make such an important milestone in our lives even more special. We'll always look back on 855-Aloha with incredibly fond memories.

3 stars for a beautiful hotel restaurant at the Romer…read more I was disappointed by this choice. The restaurant has strong marketing, but ultimately it feels like a low-value hotel spot. I wish we had opted for Le Petit Chef inside the same hotel instead. While the space is beautiful and the service was warm--including a sweet complimentary ice cream treat for my son--the dining room was entirely empty, which was an early red flag. The menu variety is limited, portions are small, and prices are high for mediocre food. * Avocado Maki Roll ($12.00) - 3 stars Seasoned sushi rice wrapped in nori with fresh sliced avocado. Beautiful presentation, but very basic. My kids loved them, though there was nothing particularly special about the execution. * Fried Egg Rolls ($14.00) - 2 stars Crispy rolls stuffed with seasoned pork and vegetables, served with dipping sauce. Below average and uninspiring. Dry casing with limited flavor profile. * Mochiko Fried Chicken ($20.00) - 4 stars Local-style crisp fried chicken marinated in garlic, soy, and sweet rice flour batter. The highlight of the meal. Crispy coating on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned well. * Yakisaoba Noodles ($22.00)- 3.5/5 Stir-fried wheat noodles tossed with seasonal vegetables and savory dark soy sauce. A step above frozen instant noodles due to a nice chew and texture, but the flavor itself was quite mediocre and the portion was small. * Kimchi Fried Rice ($18.00) - 3.5 stars Pan-fried jasmine rice with aged kimchi, aromatic spices, and green onions. Pretty average rendition. Decent flavor balance, but nothing memorable. * Kalbi Short Ribs ($28.00) - 2.5 stars Marinated Korean-style grilled beef short ribs with sweet soy and garlic reduction. Lacked juiciness and flavor depth. Plated deceptively to make the portion look much larger than it actually was. * Charred Broccolini ($12.00) - 2.5 stars Seared broccolini with garlic oil, lemon, and sea salt. Standard side vegetable. Nothing notable and definitely not worth reordering.

The beef tataki and albacore tataki were both incredible, and the stir fried Shanghai noodles were another standout. Everything we ordered was seriously good. Great food, great people, cool atmosphere, and easily one of the best local date spots we've found in Waikiki. Definitely feels more like a local gem than a tourist spot. We'll absolutely be back. Boom! 5 stars

Much better experience this time around! More char! More flavor!…read more Walked in and was lucky to be seated. Super loud night! Started with the Beef Tataki. Fresh, tender slices of beef topped with bright raw onion, pungent garlic, and a flavorful sauce. The Teriyaki Fried Corn was very good! Excellent char, tender corn, and tasty sauce. The Chicken Gizzard was awesome! This was the tastiest dish of the meal! Gizzard was tender, savory, and garlicky. The Yakitori was much better this time. The U.S. Wagyushu was the favorite. Large, tender, juicy pieces. Nicely seasoned. Chicken Thigh with Green Onion was tare style, which helped with the slightly dry chicken thigh. Pork Mushroom, Chicken Thigh, Pork Jowl were shio style. If you don't choose the style, it's just the chef's usual choice. Shio/salt tends to be more on the dry side when there's not enough oil. The pork belly wrapped mushroom was very good - rich, satisfying pork belly with earthy, juicy mushroom is a good combo! The thighs and jowls were okay. A bit on the dry side and not as tender. Bonus: the Mango and Yuzu draft beer were dangerously good!! Glad I had the opportunity to come try Tori Ton again! Excellent, friendly service. Solid food. Can't wait to come back again!
