Came in a Saturday and was quickly seated. It's pretty small inside but manageable and not too loud. When our waiter came to our table he asked us what we wanted to drink and when we answered water, he was very adamant in bringing us hot water which was a little strange as default water is usually room temp or cold. After that, we were asked what we wanted to order and everything was fine. Food came out quickly and was good. We ordered the quesadilla especial, portobello omelette, and huevos Yucatán with cheese. The hueveos Yucatán was definitely the best out of the 3. They also offered us salsa, which wasn't anything special in my opinion. The spicy wasn't spicy and the mild was ok, not much flavor. Yahaira's Cafe has become one of my favorite places for breakfast or brunch! 5 stars!!!!! So many delicious and freshly made items to select from at Yahaira's, from the burritos to tostadas to tortas to omelettes, etc. Instead of choosing from the regular menu items, however, I always like to check out the limited specials on weekends. I've never been disappointed with any of the specials that I've ordered so don't forget to check them out! Also, don't forget to ask for the hot and spicy salsa, available upon request. They really should bottle and sell it commercially! Finally, don't forget to wash it all down with one of their signature juices, the Vampiro or the Yaquis. Yahaira's is owned and operated by the same people as El Portal, one of my favorite Mexican restaurants which feature Yucatan dishes. Just like El Portal, eating at Yahaira's is always a tasty treat to one's taste buds! Yahaira's, however, is so much smaller in scale so eating at Yahaira's definitely feels more personal and homey. There's only a few available tables indoor but outdoor seating is also available if the weather is nice. Finally, service has always been super friendly and welcoming at Yahaira's! Yahaira's, by the way, is located right across the street from Vroman's Bookstore and Laemmle's Playhouse. Absolutely wonderful place to get breakfast. My colleague and I stopped by here for a business meeting. The restaurant was more of a cafe feel, minimal seating but well worth it. They served coffee with cinnamon which added a zing to it. I ordered the steak and eggs which were awesome. Very flavorful. The salsa was very good. My colleague ordered an omelette but the best part of her experience was they accommodated her request for gluten free. Though nothing on the list was labeled gluten but they assured they would take care of her. The kitchen was clean and they handled her request with great care. She did not get sick!!! Normally this is a favorite breakfast place for me as well as El Portol for dinner. But lately I've had two very unpleasant customer service incidents that made my dining experience go sour. This morning I ordered a breakfast burrito and coffee and sat down. The place was not filled up yet. But soon things got very busy. Anyway, there was a music group playing outside so I moved to an outdoor table and proceeded to eat my meal and drink my coffee and a waiter came over and asked me to move because I'm by myself. So I found a small table with only one chair and thought,"Ok. Sure. Table for one so other people can use the larger one, no problem". But then he literally came over and asked me to give up my SMALL table for one and take ONLY a chair. NOT NICE! Of course I said no (polity), because I had not only had coffee but I was still eating my breakfast. (). It's very sad that some places do not accept women who eat alone. But you know what, there are single people who do dine by themselves...and if you paid for a meal you should not be asked to give up your table for other people. (Especially a small table with one chair).!!! And last week I came here for drinks and nachos in the evening for Mexican Independence Day and a waitress literally shoved the bill at us in a very untoward fashion with such a rude demeanor. She persisted to be very rude and my friend wasn't happy either. Just the way she behaved wasn't the way you act towards customers. Regulars who come here often. Just because you're a popular place doesn't mean you can drop your customer service skills. They had chorizo and that just took it to another level. I also had an Agua Fresca and it was very good and not watered down. I was in town looking for cafes near me and from the pics I saw online, this spot had promise. Once I arrived, it def met my expectations. If you're like me and like to support small local owned (assuming it's local owned) businesses then Yahaira's is for you. I got the lomito scramble which consisted of "tender pork stewed in tomato and garlic scrambled into eggs with home fried potatoes, guacamole and corn tortillas." Delicious. Of course I had to get the housemade hot sauce to go with it. It wasn't that hot to me but the flavor was on point. Overall, the food was great, the customer service was good and the art/decor of the place gave it a nice vibe. If they tidy up their kitchen then they are for sure 5 stars... amazing food and service. As I tipped earlier, I was able to have my lunch at the bar in less than 25 minutes from the time I sit down to pay my bill. Forgot how efficient this place is after frequenting this place for about a decade from 2000-2010. The tostadas and the tortas as well as the fries are to die for. The guys who were cooking and serving 20 years ago are still around. As much I remember them, they still remember me after not being around for almost 7-8 years. The owner also owns El Portal which is next door down in the arcade. Abel and his son sure run a great operation and know how to take care of their customers. I drive past here often and used to overlook this place. This spot is subtle and is located in the heart of Pasadena. Superb, friendly service! Both dishes were packed with flavor (the right amount of it). I would recommend this place for brunch or breakfast. I dined here on a weekday morning for breakfast. We were seated outside. The weather was perfect and it was so relaxing to people watch while enjoying the meal. It is located in a nice, quaint part of town, a few blocks east from the Paseo. A cute small Latino cafe in Pasadena. I had a little time in between appointments and walked into this cafe based on their delicious menu. There were two other tables occupied (always a good sign) and me. I sat at the bar and the cook came out and asked me for my order and got to it immediately, Mexican Cobb Salad. I watched him cook and cut the chicken and add it to the bowl of greens and other goodies. The salad was so good, I ate the whole thing! Although the cafe is a little small, it's cozy and clean. I came to eat at this place two separate times, as my expedition into Pasadena restaurants continues. I was at a coffee shop not too far from here, and I decided to make the walk rather than hassle with finding a parking spot all over again. I walked in to a semi-busy place. I was seated immediately, and ordered some coffee while I decided on what to order. The first time around, I got an omelette, which chicken chorizo and cheese. The meal was rounded out with home fries and spicy salsa. The second time around, I got a spicy panini, with chicken chorizo. The meal came with a side order of fresh fruit. The panini was satisfying, and it definitely had a spicy kick to it! This is great, as most places advertise spicy food but fall short of it in practice! Both times, the customer service was outstanding. The waiter was friendly and talkative. He gave me recommendations on what to order, and made sure I had plenty of coffee always filled. I've wanted to try their breakfast burritos for quite some time and we finally had our chance. We arrived and we were seated immediately. The space was clean and the staff was frieI ordered the chicken chorizo breakfast burrito and my friend ordered the vegetarian. When the burritos arrived they looked great and I dug right in. After the first few bites I'm sad to say that I wasn't really impressed. The chicken chorizo was too salty and after half of the burrito I'd had my fill. The salsa was tasty. The burrito wasn't bad, it simply wasn't what I was expecting. I'll definitely go back and try more items on the menu. read more

This place is tiny but a decent spot to eat bruch if you're looking to eat outdoors along Colorado Blvd. The menu consist of both American and Mexican breakfast. I chose to go traditional American with pancakes, eggs, bacon and lemonade. Service was quick and attentive. The food was just okay. The eggs were sunny side but too runny. It could of used a little more time on the grill. We had to come back after leaving my sunglasses behind. Glad they were still there! Overall, just an okay place to have a peaceful brunch. read more

I normally order the bacon burrito with avocado. But every time I buy it, it's missing the 'cado.. They do charge a dollar but even then, it's not right. I just want avocados. I love avocados. It's just a let down because I have to confirm multiple times to get my order correct. Although the burrito without the avocado its still good, I just like that extra creaminess. We were in Pasadena after lunch at Rafe's Place, and we noticed that in the middle of the day that it was closed. I went on yelp just now, and it doesn't indicate whether they've closed up, but it's odd that they're closed according to yelp Monday , Tuesday and Tuesday Wedn.,, maybe they've gone out of business, it's all a bit odd, with sign on the door either indicating they've closed/ on vacation, or they're only open currently a couple days a week. read more

Came here for brunch with a friend who recommended it, and was pleasantly surprised. It is a mostly outdoor cafe with street-side parking. I got their Breakfast Burrito, which our waiter stated as their most popular item by far. I got mine with added guacamole, which added a nice flavor to the hearty burrito. It also came with a nice salsa that also did the trick. I am a sucker for pancakes/waffles, and tried their Buttermilk Pancakes. I was much less a fan of their pancakes, since they were just ordinary, but didn't hate them. Service could have been better- took 10min to be seated with several empty tables, and had to ask 4 different people for the check at the end. However, was still an enjoyable experience. read more

Hands down one of my fave breakfast, mexican spots in Pasadena, not in the hood. That's very important people. Hood food is an entirely different experience and is not subject to this conversation. Yahaira's is like the older sibling of your friend that you have a crush on. You never think they'll notice you. They aren't so uptight to be a parent (be patient this is going somewhere) that you have a crush on (admit it). Yet, just mature enough to be sexy. But, not wild enough to be the younger sibling that's fun, but gets on your nerves cause they're inconsistent. That's Yahaira's. The food is good, its cultural, its deep, flavorful. sophisticated enough to have that hipster modern edge (Spinach Tortillas for goodness sake!) At the same time, the food is down home and fills you up in all the right ways. You dreamed of them being your prom date, but you're just a kid. Then one day you're 25 with a job and a car and bam! You're an option. Yahaira's is the cafe in front of the family full service restaurant El Portal (a fine choice, but that's the sexy parent, and for moral and ethical purposes we're just going to say, " Ewww!") Transparency, I DO NOT like Chorizo. It's greasy, its tasteless to me. Andf it's the cheapest meat I can think of next to all those mystery tacos I buy from.... a place. So when I say Yahaira's Chorizo is one of the better I've eaten, I'm saying its pretty darn good. But, they're real skill, is their other meat. Their steak Adobado is amazing! The preparation of the open kitchen right in front of you shows the skill and elegance of a fast paced, high quality cafe. The pork dishes outstanding. Food is mouthwatering. The breakfast there amazing. The Burritos, the eggs, the fluid pace and fast service make this my go to. Conveniently located near the Pasadena Playhouse, makes this gem a true delight. There are a few spots along Colorado Blvd and street parking within a short walk. Not a deal breaker. Facility Itself: The restaurant was clean and restrooms we're clean. Given COVID, the restaurant has set up small tables along Colorado Blvd and in a corridor on its west side. The chairs are those plastic, patio chairs. Not the best nor most comfortable. Food: Breakfast Mexican Panini - chorizo and egg sandwich toasted in a Panini press served with fruit. Delicious. Mexican breakfast scramble - great flavor, but the spinach released to much liquid and made the eggs a little soggy...now we know. California omelette - delicious, just add salt and pepper. Chips, salsa & guac - the chips were seasoned with a non-spicy red mix that was great. The guac was good , but needed a little more cilantro, onions and perhaps a jalapeno. The had a hint of cinnamon and wasn't overpowering. All in all, great experience and will return. read more

I was unnecessarily leery of the menu offering modern Mexican cuisine. They have the flavor profile spot on. Huevos Yucatán was simply packed with flavor from the black beans sunny side eggs and ham stacked on fried corn tortilla then bathed with a savory tomato sauce. The home fries on the side were well cooked and seasoned. As some Pasadena FD gentlemen exited they highly recommended the tortas and French fries. They have specials not part of the regular menu on the table that's worth checking. It's a nice brunch spot. Very easy-going type of place. There is street parking marked for 2 hours maximum except Sundays. Every item is priced around $10+ The food quality is great. The tortas (sandwiches) with the side of either salad, fries or potato salad was a good choice for a filling meal without feeling stuffed. I recommend the De Pollo en Adobado ($10). This place was surprisingly delicious ! Little restaurant , but all the colors and decor reminder of grandmas kitchen. Chips came hot and fresh and salsa / guac was delicious! My plate was delicious too! Horchata taste very authentic just like it came from home which I was impressed! 4 stars for the food and setting. 3 stars for the service. Nice cafe which also has a more catina style restaurant next door. We sat in the covered passageway which is quite cozy and shared from the sun and set back from the main street. The Cubano was nicely done and quickly gobbled up. Our other order got messed up as the chicken green burrito we ordered came out as a tostada. What to do? Send it back for the trash can or eat it. We kept it and enjoyed its crispy tostada shell. However we wished the server offered us a gesture acknowledging the mistake. In the end after querying the price difference we were given a 25¢ coin.
