They rave about being a halel deli so even their bacon is all beef. ( I eat pork but noting it for those who don't) The Reuben sandwich was quite tasty. The bread & meat were toasted just right, not too hard. And the marbled rye bread was really good. They allowed me to add whatever veggies I wanted with no up charge so the onions, tomatoes, peppers & cucumber add-ons made for terrific enhancements to the basic reuben. They have tables for dining in as well as some outdoor seating. I've been several times & the sandwiches are consistently good and the service is always great. Try them out!

It has a ton of thinly sliced pastrami with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing on marble rye. The meat is pretty high quality and I really liked the sauce on it. It could use a little more fatty pieces as most of it is lean but it was still good. They also gave me some jalapeños and pickles on the side and they definitely elevated it a lot. I would come back to try something else. They have a lot of other interesting sandwiches like paninis, cheesesteaks, and other special sandwiches

The staff was cleaning and the chairs were already up, which I completely understood. I wasn't expecting to sit down or keep anyone there past closing. What I did expect was basic customer service. When Raven came to the register, there was no greeting, no "Welcome to Firehouse," and no "What can I get for you?" They basically stood there pressing buttons on the register and looking at me. It became so awkward that I finally said, "I was waiting for you to say you were ready to take my order because I wasn't sure." Unfortunately, things didn't improve when my order was ready. Raven simply placed my food on the counter without saying anything. No acknowledgment, no thank you, no have a good night. Maybe they were having a bad night. I can certainly understand that. But when a business is still open, customers shouldn't feel like they're inconveniencing the staff simply by placing an order. For a first visit, I definitely didn't leave feeling welcomed, and that was disappointing.

This was a visit from last week during the start of Lunar New Year for me…read more I happened to be around the Bellaire area for all the festivities going on and was curious of a previous place I visited when they first opened, House of Canes. I remembered I did a review for the restaurant opening day to give some insight but it was something I had to do a follow up for a fair perspective after being in business a while. Today it was a very relaxed in the fact the plaza was not very busy also my cousin and I were the only ones at the time. The aesthetics of the store are just like what I remembered, minimalist design, bright and a couple of board games to enjoy. There are some additional seating and artwork added. Also I liked the design of the doors for the restroom with the handle. I went with the combo for one banh mi and a sugar cane drink. There is another combo which includes chips. I picked the pork belly banh mi and the OG cane drink. One thing I can tell you for the sandwich, it was a generous amount of meat which is nice and filling sandwich. The Vietnamese baguette is light and fluffy. The contents are standard with the pickled carrots and radish, cilantro, and mayo. The OG cane drink is refreshing. There are varieties offered but I always think, start with the traditional sugar itself and then you can know what the others are like. Sugar amount is nice and not super sweet, natural sweetness. Overall I did enjoy the visit to House of Canes. It would be a fair review to see what the business is like once established a bit more to fully grasp it after ironing out the small details from the start. It is a nice place to stop in to get your banh mi and sugar cane drink fix. Not so much of an issue with my visit but one thing for me is the location. Bellaire is such a long strip with many businesses, the restaurant is a bit far from the mix. But I do see potential being in a newer plaza but foot traffic was light that day on a Saturday afternoon. But maybe I could have say it was due to lion and dragon dances.
