I blame this on the computer system because I get substitutions so they get the list of what I add, but they usually forget items typically on the sandwich thinking the customer wants just new stuff. Well, as per usual, my sandwich was made wrong, BUT not only did Alondra and Benji fix it completely, but were the nicest and most professional ever. Great people working here. Their so called Manager, Varillia, whatever her name is answered the phone and I let her know about the errors that occurred. I remember that she was the same person that assured me that everything was in my bag after I asked her about it. After my explanation she apologized and told me to return and she would redo the same sandwich. On March 18th, I went inside the store and I saw that she was working. She is a short, heavy weight woman. When she came to the counter I explained what happened and reminded her of our conversation. She IMMEDIATELY looked at me suspiciously and told me that she didn't remember speaking to me and asked when did it happen. I told her that it was about a month or so. She then went to the back area and came back with a book. She asked my name and I gave it to her. She said that my name was not in her book and they didn't go around giving free sandwiches! She went on to say if it was a month ago they DON'T honor anything over a month. I told her that none of the policies that she was bringing up was relayed to me on that day we spoke. All she told me was to come back and see her and she would replace the SAME order. She just stood there looking at me like I was a common thief! I then let her know that I didn't make up this story to steal a SANDWICH that I had no need to. She then tried another tactic. She said she would give me a medium sized sandwich and I told her that I didn't order a medium size sandwich. I purchased a large sandwich. She then said that in order for her to give me a large size she had to contact her Manager. I told her to call him, and I would wait. After awhile she came out and said that she couldn't reach him. So she started waiting on other customers and I made up my mind that I wasn't going to stand there any longer and I asked for her Manager's phone number. At that time she said that she would make the sandwich. She could plainly see that I was disabled because I told her I was and that I couldn't sit down. She didn't care. She took her time helping me. I was in a lot of pain but I am a "principle" person and right is right and wrong is wrong! This is the same person that told my husband that Fire House Subs do NOT give Veterans discount!! They must have stopped recently because I have received Veterans discounts on my previous purchases. This woman is out of line and out of order! Once the sandwich was made, she handed the bag to me and said "Do you want to check your sandwich"? She had a smug look on her face as she said it! I told her that there was no need to, I was just glad to leave. As I walked out I turned around and she was looking at me laughing! There's NOTHING funny in dishonoring a person in anyway. I will let my fellow veterans know that Fire House Subs does NOT honor the Veteran discount. That's such a slap in the face. I am glad that we can give Subway our catering orders. All that woman did was lose money for that company and to make herself look real SMALL. She really needs prayer and a lot of it. She doesn't have leadership skills at all. The two other employees were watching what she did and she's influencing them to treat people bad. No, this woman needs some sensitivity classes like yesterday! I am taking my business elsewhere! I hope the owner sees this post and replaces her with someone who has compassion.

The Vietnamese baguette is light and fluffy. The contents are standard with the pickled carrots and radish, cilantro, and mayo. The OG cane drink is refreshing. There are varieties offered but I always think, start with the traditional sugar itself and then you can know what the others are like. Sugar amount is nice and not super sweet, natural sweetness. Overall I did enjoy the visit to House of Canes. It would be a fair review to see what the business is like once established a bit more to fully grasp it after ironing out the small details from the start. It is a nice place to stop in to get your banh mi and sugar cane drink fix. Not so much of an issue with my visit but one thing for me is the location. Bellaire is such a long strip with many businesses, the restaurant is a bit far from the mix. But I do see potential being in a newer plaza but foot traffic was light that day on a Saturday afternoon. But maybe I could have say it was due to lion and dragon dances.
