This colombian bakery seems to be one of the most popular places for local colombians to hang out, even though it is in a run-down strip mall. Apparently the draw here are the food, the basic colombian baked goods and plenty of colombian souvenirs adorn their walls. They also have plenty of snack food, colombian style. I wouldn't really come here for the food but I would come here for the baked goods as this place is supposed to be a panaderia (bakery) to start with. The owners are friendly. read more

Closest thing I have found to Bogota here in Houston. Morcilla is excellent. Colombian tamales are outstanding. Pan de yuca is not only the best I have had, but they sell me their homemade dough to make at home so I can have a fresh one for breakfast on whim. Over the top? I love this Colombian bakery! My family and I think their empanadas are the best you can get in Houston. Their food is very authentic and the staff is friendly. Now to the important part. Food is first rate and service is excellent. Family oriented staff. My favorite dude is the man with a scorpion tattooed on his neck. We had two orders of half chicken portions with rice, fries and beans and four empanada's which go excellent with the spicy green sauce along with a two liter of Colombian Apple Postobon soda for about $20. Their scrambled eggs are scrumptious and I would definitely try their Horchata. I've been going here for years with my family and consider it our second kitchen when we don't want to cook. If you are looking to try some non-alcoholic drinks native to Colombia, this is a good place to try. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy, but all right. If you are adventurous enough, I recommend anyone to try the masato, it's a rice fermented drink; it has a bitter taste with a kick of love and sweetness. Cost: $1.60 Also try: Kumis, its colombia yogurt, very similar to the Indian drink "Lassi" it tasted similar to sweetened original yogurt crushed with some ice. It's pretty good, definitely worth trying if you want to get a "taste" of drinks endemic to Colombia. Also, try to "jugo de maracuya" its probably one of the more popular juices, its a juice of passion fruit. They import the frozen pulp from Colombia, you can also purchase it(the pulp) there for about $6.00, and you can make about 6 servings with it. The juice already made costs about $2.00 per cup. Pastries: some are great, but I think you have to try to get there at the right time, otherwise you get some nice dried bread with a lot of flavor. Try the "pan de yuca" its a cheesy bread, and I believe they only sell it in the weekends. Try also the Bunuelo, its bread/snack, it looks like a little ball probably the size of your fist. It has a very distinct simple flavor, but its very popular in Colombia. The tamales are also very different than the Mexican or venezuelan tamales, I highly recommend them. read more

I love this place! Super friendly service and yummy fresh food. Plus the cumbias they play are legit! You must try the empanadas Colombianas. Crispy on the outside and flavorful on the inside. They make a good beef soup on Saturday and Sunday. Yellow corn arepas with cheese are sweeter than the white ones. Pan de bono has good cheese taste. Yucca frita is delish. Mil hojas are filled with cajeta...the portion has shrank but still worth every penny. Fruit juices are soooo good. You can get them made with water or milk. My fave is pinapple with water. Leche con cafe is also super tasty. I love this place and it beats the other Colombian bakeries in flavor, atmosphere, and price. I feel like I'm in Colombia here. Definitely worth the drive to come here for a great weekend breakfast. Oh and the huevos pericos are good too. Eggs scrambled with onions and tomatoes. Happy eating! read more

Oh my gosh just by thinking of this place makes me hungry. I can't come here all the time, because I live on the other side of town. But when I come to visit my Parents I always make sure I get something from this place. Now if you are Colombian, have been to Colombia, and or was born in Colombia you all know that the food in Colombia is sooo good. The food is really hard to mimic here in the states so when I came across this place and tasted their food it is just like the food over there in Colombia almost exactly. It makes me think I am in Medellin all the time. They sale what not a lot of other Colombian restaurants around the Houston Area sale. You have to try all of the food there. I strongly recommend trying the Pasteles either chicken or meat, bunuelos, empanadas, picadas, and their dedo de queso(Finger of Cheese). The price is fair and the food is very good. Favorite and most reccomended pastry has to be the Milhojas, very sweet with its layers of thin bread and caramel or cajeta tipped with powdered sugar. The place was bustling with a lot of patrons, and the vibe was lively and welcoming. Several reviews noted the good coffee, so I ordered a cup of coffee and an empanada to go. Both were delicious and fairly priced. Next time I may try an entrée. This was my second ever visit to a Colombian restaurant but will not be my last to Pan Rico. Highly recommend! read more
